You will come directly in front of this place, both for lodging and food. I was about to go inside when Steve, the owner, came out to greet me. I inquired if he sold food, specifically ice cream and he informed me he did. He went to a little outdoor post, a small building in front. I was able to get an ice cream sandwich and diet coke and sat outdoors at a table and chairs his establishment provided. It was a weekday and no one was there so Steve sat nearby (socially distancing) and we chatted about the weather, the trail, and his business. I recalled having been here several years ago and asked him about it. He said he has been the owner for this, his 3rd season, now. He offers lodging in the building and a campground. He also offers shuttle service so that is definitely good to know. Steve provided great service, good info on his place and good conversation. While I was waiting for him to prepare my order another young woman employee came to me to make sure I had been taken care of, as well. So, if you are in need of lodging along the GAP trail, some food, or shuttle service, make sure to keep Seve in mind.

We have stayed at probably 10 B&Bs throughout our relationship, but Anthony and Kathleen were the warmest, most hospitable hosts we have ever encountered. I have special dietary challenges (gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, no additives), and they not only had organic bacon available (standard), but they also enthusiastically dug in to creating a new pancake recipe for me and whipped up a delicious, nutritious green smoothie to order. We ate on the sunny back porch. They also left us chocolates, water, and a hand-written anniversary card in our room, and they made fresh scones every day, which my husband loved, and fresh popcorn in the evening, which I enjoyed. We stayed in the West Virginian room, which was comfortable and beautiful. The whole place appears to be freshly renovated and pristine. The temperature was comfortable, unlike how we froze from the a/c at the B&B we went to on our first anniversary. Bonus: the heat comes from geo-thermal sources, which is a green energy source. Both rooms open onto a large balcony, which is very peaceful, as they have 65 acres of land. The stars are also lovely from their back porch at night. On our last day, we asked what time check-out was, but Anthony said that we were family and could leave whenever convenient. I was able to take a nap, and we left at 1:45 after celebrating Mass with Kathleen's brother--I kid you not. We were so touched that we were invited to participate in an in-home Mass--what a special, bonding experience! And although my husband is not a baptized Christian, they warmly included him. In fact, they eagerly lapped up tales of his Middle Eastern homeland and learned from us. Kathleen showed us her organic tea collection--they run a tea house downstairs--and let us sniff all the aromatic blends we wanted to. We left with gifts of organic tea and plan to send them a gift in return. We will definitely be back to see our new friends and relax in Berkeley Springs, which is an ideal place to hike, bathe for your health, renew your spirits, and rekindle your love.

We had a fairly robust schedule because we were in town for a conference - Nancy accommodated us by leaving wine in the evenings, and preparing breakfast early in the morning so we could enjoy before we went out to start the day. It was such a relaxing king sized bed that set the mood for a nice evening away from cell phones or TV. The breakfast was excellent and the chef was attenive for a small preparation request. The attached bathroom was very nice and clean. The grounds around the castle were fun to explore but we just wish that things would have been in bloom as it was march and spring hadn't arrived yet. The small noticed inconvenience was adjusting the shower water temp some adjustments were required. Fair value especially considering the minimal options other than hotels.... Would stay again.

There is no running water at the sites, at least the sites we had, which were Camp 7, sites 6 & 7. There is a very close permanent structure porta-potti which was kept very clean. There is water available and showers at the main office and the other camps which are a few minutes by car. Keeping that in mind and preparing your weekend for that will prevent any issues. From the moment we arrived, the employees were welcoming and very helpful. The main office is staffed through midnight and they have wood and ice for sale and helped with any questions. The people that commented on bad customer service must have been mistaken because everyone we dealt with was fantastic. From a camping standpoint, our site was almost perfect. There was some broken glass from prior campers which we tried to clean as good as we could, but besides that minor issue, the sites were perfect. Heavily wooded, next to one of the smaller lakes, and beautiful. In addition to camping, the grounds have a very nice kept beach front on the bigger lake, tons of picnic tables, a beach volleyball area, and a dock. They have a shooting range on the property, but be mindful that you absolutely need an SUV or 4 x 4 to get to the range. They also rent canoes and flat bottom row boats which is great. We had a great time fishing from the shores and the boats. The main lake area is a perfect place to hang out on the grass, go for a swim, or fish during the day. It was an amazing weekend and we couldn't have asked for more from the campground. Because they have so much property, our campsite was extremely private and when we didn't have the radio playing, it was nothing but wilderness noises all night long. We will absolutely be going back this season.

However, upon arrival, we were suddenly told there was a two-night minimum. When I explained I wasn't informed of this during my call, the staff became incredibly rude and unprofessional, blaming me for not checking their poorly updated website. They threatened to deny us service entirely unless we paid for the full weekend. As other reviewers state they are extremely rude and could care less if you stayed or not! I even offered to forfeit our $40 deposit and just pay as a one-night walk-up, but they refused, falsely claiming they were 'fully booked.' In reality, there was only one other family in the entire campground. To make matters worse, the bathhouses were so dirty that the boys opted to use the woods instead. While the scenery is truly beautiful, the terrible customer service and deceptive practices mean I will be taking my money elsewhere.

First time we have been able to go away for our anniversary-ever. The cabin is beautiful, secluded and wonderfully stocked and clean. This is our 6th time renting from this company so we knew what to expect. However, this is the first time we had a problem. The hot tub did not work. It would not heat. Gary, from maintenance was wonderful and came and tried to fix it but it needed parts he could not get over a weekend. We were extremely disappointed because this was a big reason we came here and paid extra was to have a hot tub. Ok, things break. Biggest issue for me though was the lack of communication. First, when Steph, the owner did contact me it was through email, which I did not check because I am on vacation and they have my number. Then when she did actually call-the day after we reported the issue, she suggested we could use the cold hot tub. Also, the problem was electrical so, no not going to sit in a cold hot tub full of water with an electrical problem. She proceeded to then tell us that she would contact us later that day about a discount. That was yesterday morning, it is now 11 pm the next day and we are leaving tomorrow. I called her this morning, had to leave a voicemail, requested a call or even a text rather than an email to get an update on repairs and to discuss that discount. No call, no text. Zero communication. I cannot begin to express how utterly disappointed I am not only because I did not get to soak in a hot tub for 3 days like I planned, but on top of that the absolute lack of communication and complete disregard for us. She did not even ever say she was sorry this happened. Not once. Very bitterly disappointed. I still gave three stars because thanks to Ashley, the cabin is wonderfully clean and because Gary really made an effort to correct the problem, coming out on his weekend three times. We were very grateful for his efforts.

There also was a nice screen porch with patio furniture. Where we constantly sat to enjoy our coffee. This is a dog friendly environment. We only have one dog and we paid the additional fee of $30.00. It's not a bad fee at all. The back deck patio is spacious and that is where you will find the hot tub as well. We really enjoyed ourselves. We played games and watched Netflix while indoors. There is no cable but the phone and internet service worked out great throughout our whole stay. This can be for a total of nine people. We stayed a total of three nights. FYI while using the gas grill on the porch. Please make sure the kitchen door remains shut. The smoke detector went off and scared my poor dog. He was shaking because the lady's voice was loud and we couldn't get it to shut off. It finally did but that was a bit much. Yes l want to be safe but it was the smoke from the grill. Besides that we had a great time and definitely plan on returning next year. Berkeley Springs is a beautiful area with the Cacapon State park a short distance away. This also had an extra bonus a basement with the washer and dryer and tv. Daybed and my son said it was quite comfortable down there. Can't wait to return!
