They had a predetermined Valentine Menu which was easy to choose ahead of time. They report and share the exact way to get to their Inn and make sure each guest knows not to just put it in their maps app. It will take you to the wrong place if so. Although this was about a 30 minute drive full of turns, at least there wasn't any weather. There was actually more parking than first seen as you pull up to the place. There also is accessible entry ways. Which is a plus in my book. Some older places or historic places don't offer this. We were right on time for our 7:00 reservation and were sat about ten minutes later. We were escorted up the stairs. You could immediately tell the place was clean, the owners and staff care about their business and that they kept things moving. We were sat on the third floor in a cute room and there was only one other couple so it was more intimate. They serve lemonade, water and teas - no soft drinks. We easily ordered after a few minutes as we kind of already selected what we wanted ahead of time. Our salads came out rather quickly and our server was either a daughter or a very attentive employee because she was ...like I said...very attentive and paid attention to details. You cant find that in some places. The salad was neat because it had little peppers in it - which i appreciated. The main meal was good with a large strip steak, great French style green beans and mashed potatoes with gravy. All tasted great and the steak was cooked like requested - medium. Then we had dessert and both desserts were great. See photos. Yum! The best part was the amount of different teas they offer. For whatever reason, I was being dense and didn't think - duh, they offer tea its a tea house. I love hot tea, so to my - unsurprise- they provided a really cute menu selection of teas. I chose peach's apricot which is my grandma and her sister's nickname. Weirdly funny!! Everything was clean, cute and quaint. If only they could be a little closer, and whoops they forgot our silverware for dessert :)! Thankful to spend Valentine's with my hottea date.

It's located in a 18th/19th century mansion, three floors with original design and accents - as well as what looks like accommodations for venue and catering. They also have tea options and from what I can gather - tea functions. They only carry water or sweet tea - which is fine for a change of pace. Sweet tea could be a little sweeter for me. Meal started with a salad - and I went with the lemon poppy seed house dressing which was really tasty - and even though I don't go on that kind of limb but I am glad I did. Recommended! Ordered a steak that came with garlic potatoes and dark gravy. I opted for the carrots which were sweet. The gravy was good as well but the steak I would have liked to have seared rather than baked or broiled. Still had a good taste and was done medium as ordered. The desserts were good - chocolate with pb icing which was reminded me of what they put on donuts. And the white cake with raspberry was good as well. Would recommend these. I think what I liked the most was it was a quaint place that many people don't know about - and the folks who run it were really nice and accommodating. Would come back and recommend it being tried as well

The owners Georgia and Peter were incredibly supportive, and gave sage advice throughout our planning process. In addition, Alyson, who handles the emails for the farm, was always incredibly quick to provide responses to our questions, and was a pleasure to communicate with. We visited the venue a couple times throughout 2019 between January and our wedding this past September. It takes some imagination to picture how the grounds would look like on your wedding day, because it transforms so much with each season. However, we thought it was gorgeous and made for a terrific backdrop each time we visited regardless of the season. The farm is between an hour to an hour and a half outside of D.C. so it is a fantastic option for getting a rustic venue space that is still accessible for our friends living in the city and the families flying in to Reagan or Dulles. There is a lot of flexibility for events at East Lynn Farms, which may be a stressor for couples depending on their appetite for DIY versus a turnkey wedding option. The farm includes some decorations and a list of recommended vendors, but we were not restricted to the list as long as the vendors we chose had the appropriate license and insurance. The farm allows you to provide our own beverages for events, and we were able to save quite a bit by sourcing our drinks from Costco rather than ordering through the caterer. My wife and I were initially worried about how hot might be at the tail end of Summer, and we contemplated renting fans or A/C units for the wedding. Thankfully, Georgia advised us that the surrounding mountains provided the area with a cooler ambient temperature and a reasonable breeze that negated the need for that hefty expense. On our wedding day, the weather was perfect! Even at the peak of the afternoon it never got so hot that it was uncomfortable to wear a suit jacket, and at the end of the night it wasn't so cold that one needed a jacket. There's no limit of the amount of praise and recommendations my wife and I would give to East Lynn! We honestly couldn't have imagined a better place to have our wedding!

The website has a whole page talking about how the Inn at Vaucluse Spring has "the best breakfast in Virginia." My wife saw this and it was a major reason she asked me to make a reservation. But I didn't know this when I made the reservation and hadn't seen the website. So when I called and the owner told me that the breakfast would be delivered in the room, I didn't think think anything of it. As it turned out, the "breakfast" was a collection of thoroughly mediocre food picked up at the grocery store--yogurt, bagels, orange juice. The yogurt wasn't event especially fancy. As a result, my wife was disappointed. The host did offer to give us a discount on our stay to compensate for the disappointing breakfast. But he refuses to change the misleading information on his website. To this day, the website brags, falsely, about having "the best breakfast in Virginia," creating the likelihood that other customers will be misled in the future. I could understand if it was still May 2020 and they just hadn't had time to make the change. But the pandemic has been underway for almost a year at this point. It could easily go for another year. And I think it's unethical for a business to knowingly publish inaccurate information on its website.

If you read nothing else, go there and experience the magic for yourself! The owner is amazing and sweet and she can also be your officiant (she was ours and created a beautiful ceremony for us). We found you get way more included in this venue than most. They have lots of items you can pick from to use as decor. (I used votives, easels, furniture, lawn games, etc.) The main house has two suites for brides and grooms to get ready. And the main ceremony space has a beautiful, natural arch. Cocktail hour is on the lawn next to the main ceremony space, with chairs/tables provided. There is also a golf cart provided for guests who need assistance getting from the cocktail area to the barn where the reception is held. (If it rains, an intimate ceremony/reception can be held in the barn or tent if you have a bigger party and put one up beside the barn.) You have the option to host your rehearsal dinner there the night before, and also included is a one night stay (either the night before or the night of). We chose to stay the night of the wedding. And breakfast the next morning was delicious. We enjoyed coffee on the porch overlooking the mountains. You have the ENTIRE WEEK to prepare for your wedding (Tuesday to the following Monday). There is only one wedding per week, so the focus is all about you! Also provided is a day of coordinator, which is extremely helpful. We used the recommended vendors list and they did not disappoint! Everyone was very accommodating and professional. Easy access to the hotels in Leesburg or beyond. We did use a shuttle, but there is plenty of parking space as well. I'm sure there is a lot more I could say. I am still feeling the post wedding glow and we couldn't have made a better choice.

Laura van den Berg once penned, "If you have no way to mark the hours, no variance in the days,…read moretime will open its mouth and swallow you." She must have visited Welbourne. More than one visitor, this one included, has concluded that spending time at Welbourne is like visiting Grandma's house, for there's no better quick description of it. But the fact of the matter is, there is so much more. Welbourne is a living, breathing timepiece of current, past, and aged history that has been ticking through the ages of American life, since before America became a "united" States. Within its walls lie relics of Piedmont, Virginia, and U.S. history that you're not only allowed to touch, but are encouraged to take into your hands and feel, play with, and enjoy, just as if they were items in Grandma's house. From the second you cross the front porch and walk over the front door transom, history descends on you in waves like the folds of an old, warm blanket. If you ensconce yourself in the wonderful library to the right of the large foyer, you can relax in a rocker next to a nightstand on which sits a narrow treatise from 1765 entitled Considerations on the Propriety of Imposing Taxes in the British Colonies for the Purpose of Raising Revenue, by Act of Parliament; which you can take into your own hands and read under the steady painted gaze of Richard A. Dulaney in all his Confederate Colonel glory; while hundreds of volumes of history in floor to ceiling bookshelves beckon you to investigate the Civil War, as well as any number of fiction works old and "new" (circa early 20thcentury or earlier). Those sounds underfoot as you step from room to room aren't creaks, they're the songs of the past asking you to join in the chorus of centuries of life here. The faces in those paintings and pictures wait patiently for you to settle into your comfy chair to listen to their myriad stories of eras past, buttressed by the thousands of books in the untold number of bookcases all over the house. The well-worn rugs atop those well-worn original floorboards muffle the cries & laughter of times past as the ever-present tick-tock of the 1840 Howard & Davis banjo clock on the stairwell wall keeps perfect time to the music of those lives like a metronome of history. Beneath your feet well-worn Persian rugs laying atop original black board floors sing songs of centuries of life that have danced were you now so comfortably sit. A seat where the likes of F. Scott Fitzgerald and Thomas Wolfe came to pen some of their works while their legendary publisher Maxwell Perkins enjoyed his close friendship with Elizabeth Lemmon, lady of the house. In fact, all over the 3 floors of this manse sit numerous bookcases filled with thousands of books large & small on every topic imaginable, all watched over by photos, paintings, and drawings of family members past; each unique room & bedroom holds a special piece of that past, presented in the now familiar term of faded elegance and comfort befitting Grandma's house. Noah Webster and all his intellectual heft leaves me wanting in the superlatives necessary to describe, much less explain, Welbourne and its impact on you. Because it's more than just Grandma's house. It's a thousand Grandma's houses, of thousands of Virginians, of thousands of Americans; storied lives were lived and breathed within its walls and out in its countryside; their ghosts speak to you out of the expansive silence; every photo and painting and picture a reflection of someone you should know; the life of someone who very well may have supped with George Washington at Mt. Vernon, ridden with John Mosby and his Rangers, or perhaps accompanied J.E.B. Stuart across the Potomac River at Seneca on his way to a collision with Union forces at Gettysburg. Welbourne is one of those few extant places that stands in silent testimony of a disappearing Virginia hunt countryside with so many stories to tell they would have kept Ken Burns & Shelby Foote quite busy. So how can I describe this place in such a way as to get you to come? I can't. If you're looking for opulence and gentrified regalia accompanied by $500 glasses of aged, vintage Virginia wine, you've come to the wrong place; turn around and go back to Middleburg and drive north 5 minutes to the Salamander Resort and all its antiseptic perfection. But if you want to touch living, breathing history as lived by 7 generations of the same family, the descendants of which welcome you like old friends with a heart-felt make yourself at home warmth as if they were your cousins; if squeaking floors and cracks in walls aren't noise and eyesores but instead the house's attempt to open itself up to you to sit, reflect, and bask in respite from the modern in the lap of true old-world family comfort & charm, come here. Come. Come now. Stay. Stay forever.

Featured in This Old House Magazine, this 18th Century log home has been lovingly restored with colonial detail and modern conveniences. It is a perfect private getaway, full of warmth and charm. Owners, Gina and Ted Blake are unbelievable hosts. The house sleeps five people comfortably, and includes a modern kitchen and (single) bathroom, as well as, central heat and air conditioning. The modern kitchen comes stocked with fresh fruit, coffee, eggs, cereals and other breakfast items - if you remain hungry at 11am, it's your own fault! The kitchen otherwise comes with a full size refrigerator, stove top (with pans and pots), toaster and charcoal grill. We took our horse there, and enjoyed the facilities... as did our horse. It was a perfect end to our snowy Saturday! We drove up to the house all lit up under a blanket of snow and quickly were oohing and ahhing at the fantastic interior. Gina and Ted are friendly and laid-back, and the house itself is comfortable and cozy. The kitchen lacks an oven so we were glad we had planned to make a big pot of risotto for dinner, but they generously stock the fridge with breakfast foods--and we arrived to find a beautiful lemon cake, as well (Gina sometimes brings leftover stock from a nearby cake shop for guests of the cottage). The house sleeps five very comfortably--we were asked ahead of time whether we preferred 5 twins or 2 kings and a twin, which was really nice since we were five girls traveling together. There is only one bathroom, but it worked out fine, even with all females :) The central heat was great--we had anticipated a chilly old cottage but it was REALLY warm and cozy inside--the perfect spot for cooking together and playing Taboo :) We plan to go back next year (if not sooner). The ONLY thing that we really wished it had was a working fireplace--there is a fireplace but it does not appear to work. There's an outdoor fire pit, but there was too much snow to enjoy that the night we were there. So we made our s'mores with homemade marshmallows in the microwave :) The furnishings are quaint, the house is adorable, and the setting is beautiful. We opened the door in the morning to find Ted and Gina's dog sitting on the porch, and they came over and chatted with us while they fed the horses. They were extremely friendly, and told us to stay as long as we wanted since there were no guests the following night. If you stay, be sure to check out the photo album that documents them rebuilding the house--it's pretty amazing!
