Such a lovely old home, a charming and beautifully restored Southern Belle with equally charming and gracious hosts. We loved our stay there. So convenient to everything in town and the neighborhood is equally charming, filled with beautifully kept civil war era homes, restaurants and unique little shops. Food was great and the new innkeepers, Joe and Melissa, felt like old friends we were visiting. This house is immaculately clean. I appreciated the functional furniture, and all the marble tabletops for our things. We stayed in room 6, and that poster bed is like sleeping on a big piece of heaven! Many people stay at the big Barvarian Inn near the C&O canal but it lacks the charm and intimacy of the Thomas Shepherd Inn. Their motto is Come as a Stranger, Leave as a Friend, and I cannot think of a more apt description.

Onto the service, our server Danica was GREAT!! She explained everything on the menu, was quick to get our drinks and refills, as busy as it was she didn't rush us to order and talked to us. The food was delicious! I started with the French onion soup to start, it was great and topped with not only the cheese it had fried onions on top which gave it a nice crunch. I followed that up with Sauerbraten with a deep flavorful sauce, red cabbage and potato dumplings, Yummmmmm! After all that I gave in and ordered the apple strudel ala mode, very tasty, and a nice crust! Overall the whole experience was great! Worth the hour and a half ride. The Bavarian Inn is a must try, once you do you'll want to keep coming back. Enjoy!!

This B&B is located right in the heart of Harper's Ferry, giving walking access to stores, restaurants, and historic sights. I came across the same clip in a rail safety ad, which made me look up directions to Harpers Ferry from DC. The historic park/town is served by the very MARC trains that pass outside my DC window each afternoon. You can describe Harpers Ferry as *deceptively* close because it's a 90 minute train ride, with planes flying into Dulles close enough to make out the airline. Looking for hotels there, Stonehouse Bed & Breakfast was the first that came up, with great reviews. Chris was very helpful and responsive via text and email. I booked the Top Room, which was $170 for a night including taxes. The quaint B&B has three accessible floors, as the family naturally lives onsite. The first floor is the main entrance with the common/dining areas, and the patio overlooking Maryland Heights and the Potomac/Shenandoah Rivers. The second floor has more rooms, one with a full balcony. And the third floor is the Top Room, with windows overlooking each side of the vintage building. If you Google pictures of Harpers Ferry, Stonehouse is in nearly all of the shots, since the balconies are front and center of the skyline. The town itself is like a real life snow globe. But the B&B, the litany of museums, eateries and shoppes around it, as well as the train station directly across the street make it an overall ideal place to stay, be it for hiking, or for something else: A love of trains is what brought me to Stonehouse, so take note that rail traffic can be heavy in certain times of the day. But the light rumbles also helped put me to sleep in the already soft, cozy bed. A container of water was provided, and while glasses should have been cleaned of dust first, it was still a really nice touch. The room also had playing cards, ear plugs, plenty books and a whole lounge chair. Checkin was a simple set of instructions at the door with my name on it, with checkout simply being your absence at the appropriate time. In my case, I only booked an overnight stay, getting in at 8pm and leaving around 6:30am, with checkout/checkin being the traditional 11am/4pm. While I didn't stay for complementary breakfast, I did catch a stellar sunrise between the mountains, as well as nature footage from the neighboring park. All of that to say, I definitely look to return to Stonehouse B&B later this year.

Pros: - Dog friendly! - Vegan menu/delicious breakfast - Lovely, large rooms - Amazing service - Plenty of common spaces - Beautiful landscaping and flowers - Outside is quiet - Very few rooms (limited guest count) - Famous goats We loved our stay at Sundogs B&B. The house and grounds are beautiful. There are plenty of seats along the huge covered porches. One side of the house has a screened in porch, which was especially well liked by our group. I attached a few pictures, it's a beautiful place! I can't rave enough about the food. They make vegan decadent! Every breakfast was a treat: peach shortcake, potato quiche, warm blueberry cobbler, baked apple french toast, blueberry scones, pitchers of good coffee, etc. Don't plan to lose weight while here. The Cons The only downsides I feel obligated to mention are: - WiFi is unreliable (pro? Or, con? ‍) - Barking Don't be surprised if you end up with a chorus of barking puppers, which can be heard throughout the house. I don't want to brag, but Bern Bern didn't make a peep. Some in the group mentioned they wished there were additional trash cans and a larger fridge/freezer (for snacks and leftovers).

Manisha and Prashsant, owners of Stone Manor Inn, were personally involved in making sure all went smoothly with our cocktail and dinner party, and it most certainly did! SMI is a lovely old country inn on 14 acres, I believe, with a number of different venues (indoors and out) for meetings, parties, and weddings. The rooms (7 in total) were eclectic, in a good way. All four of their largest rooms that we occupied were spacious, with king beds and spa tubs with separate showers. All were well maintained and clean upon check-in. We had no complaints. I'm not sure when we will return to the area, but when we do, we will not hesitate to return!

I was on the fence to book this place given its hefty price tag, and glad I went for it and completely agree with the glowing 5 star reviews. The bubbly host Manisha is very warm and welcoming. She cordially gave us a 20 min tour around the property, which was built in 1908, and even gave me a bonus tour of the other rooms afterwards. She kindly answered all of our questions and didn't rush us. The Peacecock Room is the most spacious and best room (aside from the bridal suite), elaborately decorated in peacocks. We loved it! The little touches like the handmade soap, a set of wine glasses, and a wine opener made the stay so memorable and special. While the rooms aren't temperature controlled, the electric flameless fireplace kept the room warm. The double capacity jacuzzi was perfect for my hubby and I and even had lights (some of the other rooms have smaller jacuzzi, so be sure to check). The rooms were clean minus a couple of lady bugs and stink bugs (which is too be expected out in the country). Dr. Fauci's assistant stayed here and Manisha informed us of the extensive sanitation process, even the pillows and decorations are quarantined for 6 days! The backyard is well groomed and really spacious with a nice patio and heat lamp, which kept us warm sitting outside in the frigid winter. Our dog loved running around! You can see the stars and constellations really well. It would make a great wedding venue! The Christmas decorations around the property are really nice. The owners really go the extra mile and put a lot of TLC into the property. The 6 course breakfast is delicious and bursting with flavor. Between the veggie quiche, cheesy potatoes, scone, pancakes, yogurt, and fresh OJ, I was stuffed! The fresh butterscotch scone was divine and devoured my mine and my hubby's! The cheesy potato had a nice spicy kick. Everything was so fresh and delicious. All the courses come out at once on a large tray. While my hubby and I chose to sit at the communal table (the chairs are roughly 6 feet apart), you can take the tray up to your room. Manisha and her family greeted us and thoroughly explained the dishes and chatted with us for a bit, even her son made an appearance! The bed and breakfast has a nice bar with wine, cider, and alcohol based on an honor code system. Water and soda is complementary, they even had Coke 0! The complementary fudgy brownies by the breakfast area during the day were sweet and tasty. Again the little complimentary stuff gives this bed and breakfast a nice resort feel. Very relaxing stay and looking forward to coming back!

I suppose many have written about the physical beauty of the town, but there's also beauty in the knowledge that small town America still exists. Honest, friendly, community minded people are the real beauty of Harpers Ferry. If you are like me, from out of the area, I encourage you to walk through town at least twice a day. I found the many deer that call HF home beautiful, and the fireflies (dusk) magical. The rivers give a certain comfort in knowing that the town will go on forever. I hope that I never grow tired of these things. Lynn and Christian, the Rockhaven Hosts, welcomed me into their home shortly after the covid restrictions were lifted. I was reassured by their words and actions that every precaution known to science was being observed. Both Hosts were gracious and attentive, and the room met all my needs (and then some!). Terrific gardens, quiet neighborhood, historic main building all spell class and charm. There is not a single thing I would change. As I prepare for my return home, I feel like I'm saying goodbye to family. I would definitely stay here again, and would highly recommend Rockhaven B&B to anyone looking for lodging in historic Harpers Ferry, WV.
