Although you definitely need butter and syrup on the pancakes, it wasn't very tasty without them. I could only finish half of this meal and had to take the rest home. Do not order the coffee, it tasted terrible, as if it were burnt. The server was very friendly and attentive at first. But when the food arrived, he didn't check back very often. I had to flag down another server for a takeout container before he came with the check.

There was fresh fruit on top but I didn't care for the berry drizzle on top of the pancakes as it tasted artificial. The kid's meal was very plain (I don't know what I expected) and I should have shared my meal with my child since she ended up eating all the berries off my pancakes anyway.

OWNER PHYSICALLY AND VERBALLY HARASSED US OVER TATTOOS If you have tattoos BEWARE!! My 6 month PREGNANT wife and I ordered our food and sat down to eat. As we were trying to enjoy our meal and talking the OWNER - Valarie approached us at our table and began to harass us about our tattoos. She begins shouting and telling us what filth we are and how we wont amount to anything in life. At this point we stand up grab our tray of food and walk over to the garbage can. As we are trying to leave the OWNER - Valarie actually pushes my PREGNANT wife into the door and tells us "GET THE FUCK OUT YOU TATTOED FILTH!!" the owner then grabs my wifes keys and throws them into the trash can. She then continues to push her out and lock the doors on us. In the end we had to call the police to escort us in and get her keys from the trash. As this happened an elderly man was walking in and saw the commotion and tantrum the owner was throwing and said "thats all I need to see" and turned and left. On top of that while ordering our food before we knew she clearly had a problem with us she was giving me attitude while ordering. I was unsure what to order as I have never been in before and she is rolling her eyes and making comments under her breath. At one point before the altercation my wife stepped out to meet with her mother who was going to join us and the owner valerie grabs a bottle of cleaner and starts spraying the door down while loudly saying "Oh my god what the fuck!!"... Now at the time I did not realize valerie had a problem with us... She actually acted as if my pregnant wife was so filthy because of her tattoos that she dirtied her door. This owner is so blatantly ignorant and judgmental on physical traits I do not understand how she is a business owner at all. I myself am a professional I work as a printer support technician and have a pretty good education as does my wife. Valerie you should take a class or two on ethical business managment or something and learn how to treat your PAYING CUSTOMERS and not judge a person based on tattoos and appearance. And then to try and PHYSICALLY remove a PREGNANT woman...This case is going to get a lot worse for you the owner. My wife and I are going to take this case public and expose it on the local media to warn all the local residents of the owners attitude and actions. So Beware this place if you have visible tattoos because the owner - Valarie will verbally and physically harass you. read more

i have NEVER in my life experienced such an incredibly OBNOXIOUS and despicable interaction with ANYBODY! This sorry excuse for a Business owner, Valerie Loukis-Gabuzzi threw a tantrum like a rabid animal the moment my husband and i sat down to eat the $25 worth of cold food we had ordered. About a quarter of a mozzarella stick into our conversation, the invalid rushed up to our table and began loudly, aggressively, and unconscionably harassing us!! A Nightmare! she screamed about how the diner is a "family restaurant" and not meant for FILTH LIKE US. My husband (24) of northbrook illinois, works for Canon and was clearly dressed to impress. The unkempt, rugged, unstable Valerie Loukis-Gabuzzi was dressed in a stained tshirt and sweat pants. Now if the upset was about acceptable apparel; she may want to reconsider her target(s). "You low life uneducated pieces of SHIT with all your tattoos, you wont be SHIT, you'll never get a JOB, etc." she proceeded to justify her attack.. Of course, the mind-blowing experience had us well on our way out. just seconds from discarding the food we barely touched- she forcefully pushes me out the door after i told her to fuck herself. she grabbed our tray, MY CAR KEYS, and continued with her threats. after locking us out, we had to call Morton Grove police to RESCUE US. Despite her denial of stealing my car keys; the officers let us dig through her trash to (of course) find them buried in chili. The woman is insane. I didnt then and will never understand how or why all this happened... Tattooed people have feelings too, lady, and MONEY! we were also the ONLY party in the entire place!!! the two of us! the only paying customers she had in there. anyways, BEWARE folks! The prejudice, violent, emotionally unstable, malicious, vile, and potentially dangerous Valerie Loukis-Gabuzzi is still at-large, harassing and assaulting paying customers for their appearance. read more

Boy oh boy. I ordered a double cheese burger with fries and it was so delicious. I took this picture when I enjoy it earlier today for lunch. But as I write this, my mouth waters for a second today. The beef patties were grilled and seasoned just right, with the cheese melted perfectly. I asked for "everything" as for toppings. It was just the usual toppings, but it just went so well in the burger. And it was actually pretty cheap for a double cheese burger around town. The fries were also so fresh and crunchy. Not generally a fan of krinkle-cut fries but I am now. I am a fan as long as I get these fries from here!! This was my second time out of the house during the pandemic to dine-in and I was very pleased. The staff had masks on, the tables looked fresh and clean, and all utensils were placed in a neat fashion. The environment definitely let me feel comfortable enough that I can dine-in, even though I went in with the intention to just carry-out. Well done folks! read more

Let me be blunt by stating I've never encountered a more diasterous "attempted meal" or business owner. After being a prominent Skokie resident for over 20 years, you brought your business into "our" community, meaning if you're hoping for success, quality of food & community relations should be your top priorities. Pettiness specifically about the female owners disrespect & name calling directed at me should be at the forefront. We won't tolerate your hate rhetoric in our community! I don't know if she was racially motivated or just having a bad day, but I will never be stepping foot or giving my hard earned money, nor do I recommend anyone else does to this ungrateful business. I absolutely love this place! I work a couple of miles away and wanted to try something new so I stopped at Biggie's. I got the chicken caesar pita and it was phenomenal. The owners are really nice too. They checked on me after I got my food to make sure everything tasted good. Now that I found Biggie's I think this is going to be my regular lunch break spot. Here's where it goes off the rails... While I'm sitting, waiting for my food, the guy is making a hot dog for another customer. He's holding the bun in his left hand (no gloves), while applying the condiments. After he's done, he takes money from the customer with the same hand, and proceeds to make another hot dog, with the same unwashed hand. That's a major red flag. My burger arrived shortly after that. The burger? Good but undersized for the price. The fries were thin and average at best. Small portion for the price. I had to use the bathroom downstairs, and it was out of soap. Another red flag there. Look, Poochie's is better, cheaper, cleaner, and right down the road. Sorry, but I was disappointed with Herm's.

My usual spots are Roma's and Jay's, and I'll take Little Island's beef all day over those two. It's roasted in-house (like any proper beef should be) and less dry than you'll find at a bunch of the more well-known joints. Good bread and giardiniera as well. If the Evanston location raises an eyebrow, know that this is an old-school beef, burger and dog joint that would fit in in any Chicago neighborhood. The charburgers are standard charburgers--totally fine, but I make the journey for the outstanding beef. You'll also always find the same friendly guy manning the grill and register (owner, I think), and not much else (if any) staff. I like a place that's completely consistent in familiarity, customer experience, quality. It also may be the most inexpensive restaurant in Evanston. While beef prices have skyrocketed in recent years (an equal-sized Roma's beef is about $4 more), you get one of the best and tastiest beefs in Chicagoland here for under $8 (as of this writing). Their giardiniera cheese fries (with Merkt's--i.e., the creme de la creme of cheese-fry cheese) were also featured in Chicago mag as one of the "Nine Best Ways to Experience Giardiniera"--although I have yet to try those...

You can tell the staff genuinely cares about the customer experience. On my most recent visit, Verda was exceptionally kind, patient, and welcoming to every person who walked through the door. I was especially touched by how warm and thoughtful she was with my sons. That level of genuine hospitality is becoming harder to find, and it made our meal even more enjoyable.
