Unfortunately, I did not like my iced white mocha, raspberry latte which has not happened to me in Milwaukee. The espresso in the drink tasted fake to and the flavoring wasn't good either. I couldn't finish my 16 oz drink, which I usually do. The service was great and the fun colors on the walls, made it welcoming. I think if I were to go back I would just get some donuts.

The barista took note of my book and was nice to have someone actually engaged and seemed interested. She was considering reading it herself. For active participation with a social or book club, or maybe a new date, this would be a place to go.

We dig the wide open vibe and the background music is usually decent. The staff is friendly. The coffee is good although hit or miss on the bold flavor that I like. Pastry options are yummy. The ample seating and long tables make it a great place for groups. I confess that my group is particular about the chairs - there are some cushioned and metal options. We opt for the cushioned when we can snag them! So for the hate part... In this world where we vote with our dollar, I'm annoyed that this is owned by a firm that is backed by private equity. As an entrepreneur, I'm all about supporting the little guy - the mom and pop shops - my community. Also, equally annoying, I hate that the workers had to unionize and fight for a decent wage. I mean, come on! Milwaukee has a wonderful Coffee Culture. With so many options, I'm going to be supporting my fellow entrepreneurs...

I tried a tuna melt, having been underwhelmed by a breakfast experience on a prior visit and since I don't eat meat. the sandwich was good and I enjoyed the challah bread until about halfway through when I hit a fishy bite and was put off. The accompanying fries were very good. BF really enjoyed his Reuben, which was filling and meaty - thus the 4 stars. I'm waiting for a winner from Benji's, but as a vegetarian, I might be waiting a long time.

There were several servers hanging around and it wasn't clear where I could order. Sat at the counter and was ignored for 5 min. The server came over and told me to go to the deli area. It was a challenge to understand the clerk. A quart and pint of soup with a bagel and lox was $40. While I waited i read recent reviews and was alarmed. What happened to the best Jewish deli in our area? The lox tasted very fishy, like smoked fish. Unlike any lox I'd ever eaten. I asked for capers and regretted it; there were so many and with only the tiniest shmear of cream cheese, it was inedible. Too salty to be edible. The bagel was ok, but couldn't eat much of it. The chicken soup with mishmosh also disappointed. The lid was swimming in grease. I discarded it carefully. There was 1 matzo ball (ok), tons of noodles (meh) rice (ugh - underdone and inedible) and a kreplach ( I had to spit it out - filling was rancid and sour). The broth was tasteless and unseasoned. What happened to Benji's? So sad.
