I just got an order of whole belly clams from the Big Y and they were awful. They were over-cooked and hard to eat. I paid 18.99 for something uneatable. I will never go there for them again. If I want good fried clams I will go to Crazy Jacks, they know how to cook them. read more

I was visiting from out of state and needed an all around grocery that carried a good selection of foods in all categories. I found that in Big Y. It's a good all around grocery. Good meats, Nice fresh fruits and vegetables, some organic. It has a pleasant,clean cafe area where you can rest and have a coffee and a donut. Prices are reasonable. read more

Beautiful, small story. All your needs will be met here. Recently they have moved the store and isles around. Im not sure why, i do not think its an improvement but it seems like they arent finished yet so we will see. The store is always clean, staff available, check put lines quick, carrages stoked as well as the shelves(well, the ones that arent under construction). I would argue that the produce departments selection is extremely basic, unexciting, uninspiring, and lacking. But the staples are there. They have a sushi place with friendly people working it willing to make whatever you request fresh or shop from their premade that day sushi options. Its quiet pricey for grocery store sushi though, it is just about the same price you would exspext to pay at a restaurant. The deli is always friendly and fast. Their food service department seem to be unmanaged however. Rotisery chickens are unreliable, and ALWAYS sit for MANY hours (i am not shocked to ser some sitting for 5+ hours under the heat lamps). They rarely time it right for dinner rush, no one is ever available at the sandwich station, rarely have pot pies. Thr floral department is always beautiful, as well as the bakery. The butcher department always has fresh delicious options and while your there youll find the rest room and handy clearence section! I enjoy this store, but the balance between the departments is VERY off. I will still frequent it because regardless of all that i said, the people are friendly, they hace thr basics, the manager is extremely knowledgable and eager to assist, and the lines move fast everywhere! read more

Big y needs to drop their prices, pretty sad when you can get the same things a Walmart for a fraction of the price.

I was out west to visit a friend and stopped by here on my way to her house. I had to pick up a tooth brush because dummy over here left it at home. So I was glad they were still open at 9:40pm since the guy at the packie who knew I wasn't from around there as soon as I said half a sentence, said to me when I asked where there was a store; "You're out west where no one cares. Nothing's open sweetheart." So when I pulled out of the lost at the packie I went across the street to an empty parking lot, but an open store! HOORAY! I ran in quick, didn't do too much looking around. It's your traditional food store. Found the toothbrushes right away! I didn't have to ask for directions, which was great. The people at the counters were nice, friendly; nothing shore of traditional food store service. I was in and out. It reminded me of a Publix down south, sort of in a way. read more

The fish and chips are fantastic! Don't bother ordering the haddock; the pieces are much smaller than the "fish" and not as thick. The fryer closes around 8PM and there's almost always a Silver Coin deal. The wait is usually about ten minutes, although it can be *much* longer on Fridays - and Fridays during Lent? I live around the corner from Big Y in Ludlow. I am forced to use it for convenience . They are double or triple the price on most items . The sales are not bad but I don't buy the Sunday paper so you just kind of find them when you are looking for something else. read more

Today, November 12th 2021 I went in for the first time in over a decade. I grabbed a few things, commenting to my friend I was impressed with the amount of seemingly high quality brands they offer at this location compared to Ware. My friend said, I agree but the staff here aren't very friendly. I brushed it off and continued to checkout, where I was surprised to see self check-out, I was impressed! unfortunately the pleasant part of my story ends here. I began checking out, it was around 1pm with no other customers around and the employee who was running the self-check out area was standing at her computer about 20ft away & my friend checking out at the register next to me. I finished up first and had my items in my arms as I forgot my reusable bags, just happened to look over and the middle aged women (the employee) laughed and roller her eyes at me. Again I just brushed it off, you never know what someones going through. My friend was waiting a good 45 seconds since swiping their card and so we were just waiting for the machine to process and I reached over to touch the screen and the woman yelled (alarmingly loud for a quiet store) JUST WAIT FOR THE RECEIPT TO PRINT....well hindsight is 20/20 and I suppose my friend was correct about the level of friendliness of the employees at this location. As we left she walked in the opposite direction and ignored us. Oh well, I'll stick to Hannafords. read more

As far as a large chain supermarket goes, I really enjoy Big Y. They have very clean stores. The selections are great. Good prices.

Best pharmacy in town. I ask them questions all the time and they are always nice and give me time. I went to CVS to fill a prescription once and it was 15 minutes before the pharmacy closed. I had strep throat and they would not fill my script. The Pharmacist was rood and I was to sick to argue. I left there and never went back. Big Y is always going above for me. read more

The pizza and sandwich bar does an amazing job and turns out a fantastic product. First visit, a year ago, and my last, a week ago. Great long-term consistency. Unexpected at a chain grocery store. Might not be "gourmet" as Whole Foods (and without the "snootiness"), but dang well done, quality ingredients, excellent flavor, and wonderful service. Well trained and courteous staff. I go to big y mostly for a couple of slices of pizza after practice, and for flowers all the time, they are the best! the pizza is always great, the flowers last a long time and the customer service is awesome! read more
