I love this supermarket and shop here all the time. I come here for groceries and for specific items that I can't find at my local supermarket. They have a great selection of fresh produce, including vegetables and unique fruits native to Asia that are really cool to see and try. The staff are amazing--very nice, respectful, and always willing to help you find what you're looking for, or point you to where you can get it. They also have a wide variety of fresh fish, meats, and other essentials. The quality of the food is excellent, the store is always clean, and the produce is consistently fresh. Let's begin this review by speaking about the fresh produce. FRESH produce! High quality, well packaged. Prices are fair, and the selection is really, really good. Beautiful produce, both Asian and Western. Mushrooms? Yes please. Fresh Thai basil and other mints and herbs? They have them. Now, we have the veggies, what about noodles, and rice? Yes! They have it all. Fresh noodle, dried noodle, and a great selection of rice. Meat? Yup. It's there. Condiments and thai curry paste? Absolutely! Vietnamese specialties? Yes. Kimchi? I live on it. They have the good stuff here. Frozen foods? More winners. Pot stickers and other sorts of dumplings, frozen fish and meats. The store itself is clean, and the shelves are stocked. If you make Asian/Asian inspired food, this is the place to go. The store employees are helpful and courteous. If you're curious about what something might be, or how to use it, they'll be happy to explain. Lots and lots of parking at the Boston Road store. Legit. They had all the ingredients I needed to make a fantastic pho on a super cold day. I asked one of the employees about which stock cube was best and he gave me a very thorough explanation which helped me decide on what to buy, and he didn't steer me wrong; it came out great! My dad likes to come here Thursdays to buy fresh fish, apparently that's the day they bring it in. They have a great selection of fresh produce, even fresh turmeric root which is not easy to find. My friend always say the foods are great, so we decided to drop by as we were in the area. Picked up some roast duck and chicken and it was so dry, the sauce that comes with it surely does not help. Excellent selection of Asian cooking greens, and good selection of fresh fruit. Tofu in cooler varied. Dry goods might not be as organized in the best way, I found sesame seeds in three different aisles. Sauces are more skewed to Vietnamese sauces, but they do have all of the canned fruit and sweets for halo halo at home. Good selection of dried noodles. Prepared foods vary, we have only come on Saturdays and the hot bar is stocked and awesome before lunch, but empties out fast. There are also some grab-and-go desserts and food options. We adore the fresh tofu dessert with the ginger syrup--always opt for extra syrup. There is a fresh fish counter, and fresh packaged meats. Interesting selection of frozen foods and desserts as well. I LOVE this Asian market!!! I'm Chinese, the founder of L.A. Foodies (38k members), and a home cook, so I'm incredibly spoiled when it comes to shopping for Asian ingredients. I now live in Springfield, VT, about 100 miles away and this is the closest place I've found that has a decent selection of Asian vegetables. The market caters to Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Korean, and Vietnamese clientele so they actually have some veggies and ingredients I've never seen. Plus an excellent deli and the roast ducks and crispy pork are excellent! While it is much smaller than some of the larger L.A. markets and there are specialty markets for every cuisine there, but I'm not in L.A. anymore and Five Star has most of what I need. I also play poker so whenever I go to the MGM Springfield I ALWAYS make a stop here to load up on fresh veggies, roast duck, and ingredients. I usually stay at a BnB (especially with the price of gas) for a few days and can cook myself a great Asian meal or two before heading home, loaded up with lots of goodies. If this was in L.A. I'd give it a 4* rating but here in New England, I give it 5*!!! read more

I'm giving 5 Star Supermarket 3.5 to 4 stars due to its unique and hard to find products. I specifically stopped in looking for a Bahn Mi but they were pre-made which I didn't find too appealing. However, I found Taro chips. Taro is a comfort food from childhood and not easy to find just anywhere. It's fun to stroll up and down the aisles and see the different products. If you like to cook outside of the box like I do then you will enjoy a visit here. read more

I found most of the things I wanted from this Asian market (def. best in the area) fresh and canned, but I would have loved to try the ready made food, but kept ringing the bell at the counter and no one showed up to serve it. This is a solid (and one of very few in the area) Asian grocery store. I'm knocking a star off because some of the products can be close to or past their best buy date but that comes with the territory. The fresh food is delicious, and I always spot something interesting when I visit. read more

In general, the store is clean and well kept. The vegetables are fresh, they have pretty good selection of otherwise hard to find asian ingredients like bamboo shoot, young coconut, and PANDAN LEAVES. My only "complain" is that the selection for Chinese ingredients and food were limited but given that the store is pretty new and is catered more for the Vietnamese community. However, I hope that as their customer base grows, they will be able to expand the selection. Upon seeing that they serve Coconut Shrimp Laksa, we went on a Monday hoping to be able to try out their food but were told that they only make food on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. However we did see them serving freshly made beancurd jelly that afternoon. All in all, this store is a great addition to the local asian community by providing us a place to buy some asian ingredients that are otherwise impossible to get around here. Great and sorely needed addition for those seeking Asian products in the greater Springfield area. The store is immaculate with a nice array of fresh produce at what appears to be very good prices. The can goods aisles are neat nicely displaying a large variety of products sure to please most home cooks. I even found Laksa paste which A-Dong stopped carrying several years ago. There is a frozen food area, fresh meat, fish and a prepared foods section as well. While the market is smaller than A-Dong, I think it covers most of the bases and certainly is less congested when its time to check out. This store has a lot of potential and I hope it catches on with more of the public as I would hate to lose this wonderful hidden Asian gem! read more

Haven't been here in awhile, but they have vastly improved from the last time I have been here. The first time that I noticed is that they have more prepared food options in the back in which you can get if you're on a lunch break. Furthermore, they have expended the Asian ingredients that carry so if you want to cook any Asian dish, this is the perfect place to go to in order to pick up said ingredient. The best part is that there is a fruity boba drink that they are selling now called "The Galaxy." It basically has all the great tropical fruits of Southeast Asia in a single cup. read more

Was looking for kimchi and this place has it! They have some hot and cold food for purchase (it looked mostly Vietnamese but I didn't get a super close look) they have some fresh Asian bread (roast pork bread, red bean bread). I got some sticky rice stuffed with shrimp and it was pretty good. (In the refrigerated section) They have surprisingly a lot of Korean goods. I wish they carried more frozen items. Meat selection was small but looked fresh. Whenever shopping at Asian markets I always check expiration, none of them were expired but pretty close to expiring so I'd keep an eye on that before you purchase anything. I can't complain bc Springfield has such limited Asian grocery stores. read more

The employee are nice if you are Vietnamese. If not, some are very rude. They will yell at you if you don't speak their language. Have anyone seen the sign at the fish section. " We reserve our right to sell." What had happened? Well, there was a fight between customers and the fish section. Very Clean store. No grease on floor, No smell, products are on shelves tidy.Deli and seafood section are closed early on Sunday, we were there at 4pm and everything was cleaned up already. I love this store for several reasons, but my number one is that it carries many food items that are no longer being sold by my ethnicity's ( Italian) specialty stores. Uncooked large Squid, octopus, tripe, etc... all the food items my Italian grandmothers used to make some of my favorite dishes when I was growing up. I also enjoy their precooked meals and always grab a bubble tea for the road. Not being of Asian descent I find the variety of fresh , prepared, and packaged food to be interesting and intriguing. This store has allowed me to discover and use new ingredients and to cook many dishes that I would never have tried or even heard of prior to shopping there. The staff is very helpful in explaining their products and what they would traditionally be used for and the meals that you can make with them. I go into the plaza the supermarket is in often and one day I went in out of curiosity, not knowing what to expect. It is an Asian supermarket filled with Asian products, which was super exiting because sometimes I find recipes and can't find the ingredients at the regular supermarket. The staff seemed very friendly and they even had a hot foods section with ready made foods to eat. The one thing that did bother me was there a strange smell when I first walked in, almost like cat urine. It was strange and off putting, and discouraged me from purchasing anything. But the store it's self looked clean and tidy, and there was actually a guy there buffing the floors so maybe he smell was a fluke thing. They don't have a huge selection for how big the grocery is, I was kind of disappointed. I also had an experience where I bought something there and it was expired. I went back to exchange it and they were very nice about it and exchanged it for me. Unfortunately, what they gave me in exchange was also expired. read more
