I have been using Ben for our appliance repairs for many years and have ALWAYS had quick,…read moreprofessional work done well. He and wife Elizabeth work together as a team, she answers the phone, schedules and occasionally helps on the job when extra hands are needed. They are very competitive with the price and will advise if they believe the repair is not worth it on old appliances. I highly recommend Ben. RW

I contacted Ben's Appliance about my leaking refrigerator and communicated with Elizabeth via text,…read morephotos, and several phone calls to diagnose the issue. I was given a tentative diagnosis and an estimated cost via text. When Ben came to do the repair, I was not home, but my mother was present. After the work was completed, my mother called to inform me of the total cost, which was double the estimate I was provided. I asked to speak with Ben to ask for clarification. As soon as I expressed my concern, Ben became highly agitated and began yelling, claiming the higher cost was due to taking everything apart. I had to ask him to stop shouting at me because I was simply trying to understand the charges, not to avoid payment. I also told him that I felt he should have discussed and explained what the problem was and the cost before the repair began, especially given the significant deviation from the estimate. When I told him what I was quoted, he said it was wrong and that he would "chastize" her later. After we hung up, he continued yelling at my mother in our home, then slammed the door after being paid. Once I reviewed the receipt, I noticed the reason the price was different was due to a "service fee". Not the additional labor cost to take everything apart, as Ben mentioned. Elizabeth was actually in the ballpark with the cost for the "repair". She just failed to mention the fee for them to come out. I called Elizabeth to provide feedback and to ask why this fee wasn't disclosed upfront. She said it wasn't mentioned because I "never asked." I guess I wasn't specific enough when I asked how much it would cost for them to come out and fix it. She then put me on speaker, and Ben again became defensive, yelling, and calling me a clown before abruptly ending the call. I understand that estimates can change, but fixed fees should be disclosed and discussed upfront. Treating a PAYING customer disrespectfully when requesting clarification is entirely unacceptable. I caution anyone considering Ben's Appliance.

I am not unfamiliar with purchasing and repairing of appliances as I am the property manager for 10…read morehomes in North Tacoma. I dropped off a dishwasher and paid 60$ for a diagnostic. I was told this is the initial cost to look at the unit and anything additional will be for replacement/repair work. I was called and informed that my unit had been tested and nothing seemed to be a problem and that my unit was ready for pick up. Upon pick up, I was informed that I owed an additional "labor cost". Didn't make any sense to me as I paid for diagnostic, which is all they self-admittedly did, and wasn't sure how they rationalized charging "labor" for something that had no "out of scope"/additional work done to it. I expressed my displeasure with the on-site staff who had no coherent explanation as to why I was paying more than our agreed-upon diagnostic rate. He kept saying that they " spent a lot of time testing" and in my mind that is the sellers burden as they sold their ability to do diagnostic for a certain amount. To me it felt sketchy and felt like a half baked business practice. If they had done any amount of work to the unit, I would have no problem paying for labor. I frankly wouldn't had a problem if they said that diagnostic was $100 from the start. I would've liked to agree on a price for a certain project/assessment and have it cost that same amount when said work was complete. I also want to mention that the on-site staff have almost no knowledge of these machines and their functions. They were really just salesman with the service team in back of house. I personally like to speak with technicians about mechanical issues so I have a better understanding of tasks performed, and common issues. Aka real knowledge. Overall, I did not find my visit to be worthwhile or a good investment and frankly left feeling like I was bamboozled. I am not likely to return and would not recommend anyone else go here for repairs/diagnostic.

My dishwasher went out. I called Amana to see who to…read morerecommend for the repair, they said it was the circulation pump and it was an easy fix. sent me the Factory certified part and 2 you tube videos. However, I needed a narrow quarter inch clamp. That was the problem, I can't find where to buy one. So, I went to Lakewood Appliance and was willing to pay the $120 for the service call just to have someone come out and put the clamp on my factory certified genuine part. remember the part came directly from Amana. First I asked if they had the clamp, they did not. should have been my first red flag. I said I needed a narrow clamp. this idiot said how narrow and started to show me diameters with his fingers. I said Narrower, not smaller in diameter. Don't treat me like I'm an idiot unless you're a bigger idiot. Then this sick bigot said that even though I have a brand new part, that he would not put on cheap China junk, so I had to buy one of his. I told him I got it from the factory, and he said he had to be sure. well mister bigot. I don't care where it's made. it's genuine and I will never ever do business with bigots and arrogant jerks. I will pay someone who can read a box when it says it's factory.
