We have purchased several appliances from Albert Lee (Tacoma) but will no longer do so. We recently…read moreexperienced very poor customer service regarding the installation of a dishwasher. We were told that the dishwasher would be installed for $200 less than their regular amount ($350) in order to meet Costco's overall price. We were informed that if any electrical or plumbing work was needed to meet new code there would be an additional charge, which is reasonable. Installers do not give estimates ahead of time. That, and the fact that I trust the craftsmen I have worked with in the past, led me to hire my own plumber and electrician. Everything was ready and up to code for the installers. When the installers arrived, they said that they would need to charge a $200 fee for a trap tailpiece, which is an $8 part at Home Depot and takes 5 minutes to install. When I balked at that ridiculous price, they said I could install it myself, but that would mean they would have to return later for an additional installation fee. They would have me either way, in other words. Having no real choice, I signed off on the work. It took the man less than 5 minutes to install the $8 part and I paid the $200. I called our salesperson, who was understanding and bumped it up to his manager. She informed me that there must have been a misunderstanding because installation companies often need to return at a later date due to work needing to be done, and there is NEVER an additional fee. She would call the installation company and see what could be done. She left a message on my wife's phone the next day, stating that the installation company said we had signed off on the work so nothing could be done. That was it - no explanation from her - just sorry, but you signed off on it. No further follow-up. Due to the lack of help from the store manager, I wrote up the entire scenerio and sent it to the Albert Lee company onlne (the only place to send comments) and, after several weeks, I have still not heard a word from anyone. I understand that a mistake can be made, but making us feel that we had no option but to pay the $200 fee, when they should have come back later at no additional charge, was "blackmail" in my opinion. MY ADVICE: NEVER allow an appliance company to use their own installation company. You do not know their installers, nor do you know their prices. Have reputable electricians and plumbers of your choice do the work, including installation. They should come out ahead of time to give an estimate of work needed and price to install. NEVER trust installers you do not know. We had planned to purchase a refrigerator next - our fourth appliance from that store. That will not be happening now. Lesson learned. Trick me once, but never again. They are losing future sales for a mere $200.

Manny, my sales rep, has been fantastic throughout -- always responsive, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in making sure I get the right appliances for each project. It's rare to find that level of personal attention, and it makes a big difference. Most recently, I completed a remodel featuring high-end Thermador appliances. When my new plumbed coffee maker ran into issues, Albert Lee handled it with professionalism and care. They sent a technician to assess and attempt a repair, and when that didn't resolve the problem, they didn't hesitate to replace the unit entirely and arranged the installation promptly. RJ and Randy came out to install the replacement, and they were outstanding. They were professional, efficient, and had a genuinely great attitude throughout the whole process. You could tell they took pride in their work and actually cared about the customer experience -- not just getting the job done. Whether you're working on a major remodel or a single appliance purchase, I highly recommend Albert Lee. The team, from sales to service, really sets them apart.

I contacted Ben's Appliance about my leaking refrigerator and communicated with Elizabeth via text,…read morephotos, and several phone calls to diagnose the issue. I was given a tentative diagnosis and an estimated cost via text. When Ben came to do the repair, I was not home, but my mother was present. After the work was completed, my mother called to inform me of the total cost, which was double the estimate I was provided. I asked to speak with Ben to ask for clarification. As soon as I expressed my concern, Ben became highly agitated and began yelling, claiming the higher cost was due to taking everything apart. I had to ask him to stop shouting at me because I was simply trying to understand the charges, not to avoid payment. I also told him that I felt he should have discussed and explained what the problem was and the cost before the repair began, especially given the significant deviation from the estimate. When I told him what I was quoted, he said it was wrong and that he would "chastize" her later. After we hung up, he continued yelling at my mother in our home, then slammed the door after being paid. Once I reviewed the receipt, I noticed the reason the price was different was due to a "service fee". Not the additional labor cost to take everything apart, as Ben mentioned. Elizabeth was actually in the ballpark with the cost for the "repair". She just failed to mention the fee for them to come out. I called Elizabeth to provide feedback and to ask why this fee wasn't disclosed upfront. She said it wasn't mentioned because I "never asked." I guess I wasn't specific enough when I asked how much it would cost for them to come out and fix it. She then put me on speaker, and Ben again became defensive, yelling, and calling me a clown before abruptly ending the call. I understand that estimates can change, but fixed fees should be disclosed and discussed upfront. Treating a PAYING customer disrespectfully when requesting clarification is entirely unacceptable. I caution anyone considering Ben's Appliance.

He and wife Elizabeth work together as a team, she answers the phone, schedules and occasionally helps on the job when extra hands are needed. They are very competitive with the price and will advise if they believe the repair is not worth it on old appliances. I highly recommend Ben. RW

This is disappointing because I'd like the option to consider all brands based on their performance. Their refusal to sell certain brands seems to mean they aren't focused on value for the customer. I was told this is the initial cost to look at the unit and anything additional will be for replacement/repair work. I was called and informed that my unit had been tested and nothing seemed to be a problem and that my unit was ready for pick up. Upon pick up, I was informed that I owed an additional "labor cost". Didn't make any sense to me as I paid for diagnostic, which is all they self-admittedly did, and wasn't sure how they rationalized charging "labor" for something that had no "out of scope"/additional work done to it. I expressed my displeasure with the on-site staff who had no coherent explanation as to why I was paying more than our agreed-upon diagnostic rate. He kept saying that they " spent a lot of time testing" and in my mind that is the sellers burden as they sold their ability to do diagnostic for a certain amount. To me it felt sketchy and felt like a half baked business practice. If they had done any amount of work to the unit, I would have no problem paying for labor. I frankly wouldn't had a problem if they said that diagnostic was $100 from the start. I would've liked to agree on a price for a certain project/assessment and have it cost that same amount when said work was complete. I also want to mention that the on-site staff have almost no knowledge of these machines and their functions. They were really just salesman with the service team in back of house. I personally like to speak with technicians about mechanical issues so I have a better understanding of tasks performed, and common issues. Aka real knowledge. Overall, I did not find my visit to be worthwhile or a good investment and frankly left feeling like I was bamboozled. I am not likely to return and would not recommend anyone else go here for repairs/diagnostic.
