Last time I was at Midway, I had a craving for coffee and found myself at Big Shoulders Coffee. They had the usual trappings of a modern coffee shop - some pastries, all kinds of foreign-sounding beverage options. But they also had a plain old cup of black coffee to go. No frills, no weird names. A large black coffee, please. And it hit the spot - hot, dark, a little bitter, a little chocolatey. Exactly what I needed! Next time, I know exactly where to go at Midway for my daily brew. Big Shoulders might be the place for you, too! read more

This coffee station is in Midway airport in Course A by gate A19. I was standing in line to order and the employees were deep in their conversation talking away and not professional. Their conversation was more important than helping their customers. Eventually they engaged, but they never stopped talking. Talking and being loud and commenting on how nasty the items are in the case. If the items are nasty in the case, you should not be selling them to customers! And they are turning customers away suggesting other places in the airport. This place needs a manager to train their employees. Personal conversations are fine, but when a customer comes up, the personal conversations needs to stop while the customer is waiting in the area. And when there are no customers there are potential customers waiting on their plane, cussing is inappropriate at all times. Complaining and constant cussing coming from this business, stay away! read more

"Cardamom latte" and "airport coffee" don't usually go together so seeing a local chain in midway is a nice option! A downside is it seemed there was confusion on if we were allowed to use the kiosk or not to order and it seemed like they were out of a lot of stuff or would say something was out of order than working again. I got an iced almond milk cardamom latte with an extra shot. It was pretty tasty though I don't think there was actually an extra shot in there because it wasn't very strong. Loved the cardamom flavor though. Expensive airport prices of course, but not a bad option at all. read more

Decent coffee for an airport, tried Big Shoulders at Midway, didn't see any care or emphasis on espresso drip or any work done pulling shots but was very quick to get my cardamom Latte, a minimum! Friendly and fast is about all that's happening here with some hint of balance and easy going caffeine. read more

They announced they have no breakfast sandwiches when I tried to order at 10 am. Others walked over and ordered a smoothie and they have no smoothies. My order they got wrong (they gave me an iced drink instead of hot) lady making it was complaining about coworkers and working hard while other lady was doing nothing. Evidently she called the manager on someone taking too long of breakers recently. . Remade drink was ok. Limited menu but not told until you order and talking so much messed up order. It's only thing at A15-19 but might be worth walking a bit. read more

Horrible service. They told me that they weren't making any drinks other than coffee we had to pour ourselves that was disgusting. And then proceeded to make them but only for certain customers. 10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. There were two baristas -- the one taking my order already had an attitude, and the one making my coffee decided to taunt me in front of everyone just because I asked for light ice in my latte. She made sarcastic comments about it being a "happy Thursday" and even said she doesn't like working mornings because customers are "boujee" and ask for too much. I didn't pay to get shitty service. And to make matters worse, the coffee itself was absolutely disgusting. I didn't even want to go back to get it fixed because I wasn't about to be taunted all over again. Totally unprofessional and a terrible experience all around. read more

Not bad considering it's airport coffee! Got a cardamom latte that was pretty flavorful, a nitro cold brew with loads of caffeine and a smooth oatmilk latte. Coffee was ok. Asked for a vanilla cold brew but there was so much vanilla it was too sweet. Would probably ask for half next time. Also got a bacon egg and cheese bagel. It was pretty good. Typical airport food and ambiance. Service was fast and the line was short compared to other. Can't complain too much about it. It did the job for a quick grab for a flight out of midway. read more

I had an early flight out of Midway and was looking for breakfast. Everything had a crazy long line, so I was ready to get on my flight with an empty stomach in hopes that there might be more options at my destination airport. However, Big Shoulders saved the day! It's tucked away at the end of the terminal, so there wasn't much of a line. The menu is pretty limited, but they have quite a few crowd pleasers. I grabbed a bottle of water and a egg and cheese bagel sandwich. The sandwich was served steaming hot - to the point where I couldn't hold it in my bare hands! It was a pretty standard bagel sandwich with a hefty airport price tag. In a pinch, Big Shoulders ticks all my boxes. read more

This spot is a hidden Midway gem. Let's start with the basic, which is the coffee is good. After all, you have to compete with Dunkin and Starbucks. I like that it is stacked away just around the corner of the concourse. It makes it easier to get a cup of coffee here and something to go with it instead of getting into the tremendous line at Dunkin' Donuts. Arriving early in the morning or heading out, this is an excellent spot to grab your coffee! read more

Landing at Midway at 7 a.m. for a quick layover before flying to Phoenix, my wife and I grabbed coffee from Big Shoulders Coffee. There was no line and it was quick. I enjoyed the vanilla latte. First time having this Coffee spot and I was not impressed. When we went here it was not busy and there were 3 female workers and they did not seem to want to take our order. They didn't really engage us as we were looking for their best drink. I will have to try this Coffee again at another location to see if they can do better. read more

Recently came here before boarding my flight. Now thank goodness I came to the one at the very end of the A section because it's the most quietest one until people realize it's open. Customer service needs to improve and the way it is operated isn't well at all. Prices are high but the quality is low. Definitely felt I got robbed, especially after waiting 10 minutes for a Frappuccino. read more

I ordered a latte, which the barista prepared before letting me know that she couldn't ring me up because someone else needed to come to operate the register. LOOSELEAF TEA OPTIONS IN AN AIRPORT! Yes, that's right! This coffee spot located in Terminal A surprised me to the moon with looseleaf tea! I am used to rather abysmal tea options (bagged, ground a la Lipton) in airports. I lined up at this spot, and looked for a menu. FInally I found one, and I ordered 1 of their green teas. The barista had little idea how much looseleaf tea to add to the tea filter, so I got a hefty load (enough to brew 1 gallon of tea). I'm not complaining, although for business purposes, they should probably train their staff with how much looseleaf tea is needed for a 12-16 oz. cup. I was simly ecstatic to find a more than decent tea option in an airport. I also got a muffin. They were sold out of the one on the menu, so I got whatever they had. Wasn't memorable, mostly because I was thinking of the tea. read more

My experience was excellent- even if I wasn't trapped in the airport for 6 hours of delays. I am a tea drinker. Big Shoulders has several choices of loose leaf teas including chai and a matcha latte. I was pleasantly surprised they have an Oolong tea and so I ordered that. The woman working was friendly, the water is a little too hot, but I have a tea that isn't just a tea bag so I am happy. read more

I would give this place minus stars if I could. I asked the lady if should could do a Cortado. She said she normally wouldn't but, she said she knew what it was and they do them different ways. I said a double shot espresso a little bit of milk. She said okay. So she grabs a 16 ounce cup and fills it half with coffee and half with milk which was more like a con leche. I said that wasn't right. So she got all bent out of shape. So I said just give me a double shot espresso and so she pours me a little bit of coffee. This place should not advertise espresso if the women behind the counter isn't going to pour you anything but coffee. She was quite rude on top of everything. read more

The coffee tastes awful, and i have never come across less enthusiastic service. If you have time, wait in line at the dunkin.

I had a sub par sandwich at another vendor while at Midway Airport this morning so I was in need of coffee since they had none available. I saw this spot and heard good things about them so I decided to try. I should have skipped it. It is near the A14 gate, which is an indication to put it out of sight, out of mind. There was a lady replenishing the fridge with items blocking the line entrance so a few other patrons went around to look at menu near the register. The cashier told us 5 patrons the correct entrance to the line. I informed her that the other co-worker was blocking the entrance to the line. Then she said "I ain't blocking no line. All they have to say is 'cuse me." That should have been an indicator to move on but I wanted to support them due to their cause, mission. I spoke to cashier, no reply; took order & no thank u, no have a good day. Hell even Mcdonald's does that. Would I be back?? I rather do without. read more

Leaving bad reviews at an airport coffee shop feels like punching down, but I can't summon more than two stars for Big Shoulders: One star for serving a small variety of tea, and one star for being a local establishment. As for the solid three star withholding, let me explain. Of the four people working, two were trying and two were not. After I ordered a latte and nitro, the cashier walked away. As the line of waiting customers grew behind me, I waited to pay. Another employee came over after a few minutes and offered to take my order; Employee #1 shouted at her that she was getting ready to cash me out but made no motion toward the register. Employee #2 re-took my order and then waited for #1 to come back to ring it up before moving to the next register to help another customer, an old guy, who asked the seemingly innocent question of: "What is an americano?" Employee #2 asked #1 what is an americano, and a painful amount of silence emerged amongst hose of us in the line(s) as we realized we might know this answer while the folks making coffee may not. A third employee, emerging from the espresso machine, looked incredulous and finally answered: "Four shots of coffee and water." I wish I would have gotten those four shots of coffee, as my nitro was watery and lukewarm while the iced latte was 2/3 full but mysteriously still cost $6. This is the first time I've actively wished to have gotten Dunkin Donuts instead. Big Shoulders, you're gonna have to put some attention into this spot. Train your employees and please at least get the coffee a little stronger. read more

When I see any local place I go so I decided to try this at the midway airport. Nothing glamorous but I had a decent Honey latte that I was happy with. Service was good and price was fair. I'm giving this a three star - but consider it a weak 3! It is a good location for the far gates, but the service, quality and price all are not great at all!
