Big O on San Pablo Avenue in Berkeley should be named Big NO! These guys need to clean up their act. They lie to their customers. They promise work will be completed in a certain period of time, then fail to deliver. They claim that particular tires are on-hand when they're not. I wasted 2.5 hours waiting for Big O to do what they promised. In the end, the O promised to be a big zero. A cipher. I say, run-don't-walk away from this business. read more

They promised $40 tires, than they were out and only had $60. Then they gave me a bill that was WAY TOO HIGH and I looked at the itemized and there was all this BS about nitrogen fills and long term repair contracts. All BS. I just walked out. read more

Toyota dealership was going to charge $500 for a 30K mile checkup -- Big O did the same for $150. They walked me through the checklist, were super friendly and helpful, and did the job quickly and well. I'll be using them from now on for my car service needs. read more

Way too expensive, this guy tried to tell me that a synthetic oil change normally costs $124 dollars and me paying $76 bucks was some kind of amazing deal. Very patronizing staff, they talked down to me like I was some kind of idiot. Also they took over two hours for an oil change, after I called and they told me there would be "no wait." Definitely go anywhere but here. read more

Completely ripped off my girlfriend off. Took total advantage of her on an alignment and tpms service that were not needed. Do not go here. I am sure there are lots of other options. read more

Big O Tires continues to impress. Used to live in SF and had a couple flat tires fixed at their old SOMA location. They were always fast, friendly, and efficient. Now we live in the east bay and I just had my first tire issue over here, the low pressure indicator came on in our car. I was very happy to find this Big O Tire just down the road. Dropped by and they found a nail in my tire. They patched it up and had me on my way in less than 30 minutes. And once again, all done fast, friendly, and efficiently. I'll definitely be back any time I have tire issues. read more

Amazing service! While in Oakland for school, I cut a corner too tight and popped my tire. Knowing that I had to go home to Sacramento, a spare was just not going to do the trick. I called Big O, they explained where to find the tire size, got me a great tire at the price of a mid grade tire, and put my information in so that as soon as I got to the store on my spare they were ready to replace the tire. I was in and out in 20 mins and saved $50 with their coupon. Couldn't ask for more. read more

Bought tire chains for an upcoming snow trip. First use, they broke, and left me stranded. Had to replace them in Tahoe at additional cost. Tried to return them, and received a long lecture how this all had been my fault. The chains were not fit before I left the store, big mistake! on my part. Insist on the chains being fit to your vehicle, if they refuse, don't buy. This story has a happy ending, but it didn't happen at the Berkeley store. I would keep on trucking up SanPablo to the El Cerrito store for satisfaction. read more

If they tell you you need a new tire get a second opinion! I sent my son there with a slow leak in one of the car tires. We expected they would patch it up and be done. Not so. They told him (first time buyer that he was) that the whole tire needed to be changed. Fortunately he called me. I called them and they said the damage was too much and it could not be fixed. I had my son take the car to Don's tires on Gilman and they patched it right up. read more

I think this is an Ok tire shop- service is respectful, work is good and prompt, and the Big O chain tends to be a little better than others. Go here. Yeah, Temescal residents pass up Firestone and drive here. read more

I called to see if an appointment was advisable to have my tires rotated (a free service for having purchased my tires at Big O - which is nice ). I was told an appointment was not needed and that if I came in now they were not busy and would be able to do my tire rotation in 15 to 20 minutes. I told them I had a tight time window but if they could do in 15 to 20 minutes I would be right down. I was less than 10 minutes in getting there. When I arrived I had to wait nearly 10 minutes for someone behind the counter to be available and to inquire if they could be of service. I told them of my call -- what I had been told and of my tight time window. I inquired if they could do the rotation per what I had been told on the phone some minutes earlier. I was told it would be 45 minutes to 1 hour before they could get to my vehicle. My schedule during the work day -as is most people's, is tight. read more

Super nice and honest people. I took my car in for new brake pads. They said I still had a lot of wear left and that the pulsing action while braking was due to uneven surface rotors from the hot/cold expansion/shrinking of my commuting. He said it was not a safety issue and recommended another look at pad wear at my next oil inspection. It would be most cost effective to resurface or replace rotors when changing pads. And, they did not charge me anything for this inspection and advice. They totally could have charged me hundreds for new rotors and pads, but they were ethical and honest. I'm definitely coming back. Thanks, Big O. read more

I spent almost a thousand dollars at Big O Tires for four new tires, and now they refuse to take back some tire chains that were never used and unopened. When I did get my tires on my car I had to wait a whopping 5 hours!!!!!! If I wasn't leaving the next day to drive to the mountains I would have taken my car and left. This place has awful customer service. I had heard from people in the car business to never go to Big O for tires, now I understand why. I would not not give them one star if that was an option here. Due to the extreme wait time and the rudeness about not taking back some stupid tire chains. I will never go back to Big O Tires and I plan on writing a formal letter of complaint too.....and I've never done that before. read more

These guys are crooks. Upsells on parts and labor and practices pricing discrimination. Tried to charge me $550+ to get headlights replaced. Although it was more than just the bulbs where the whole panel section with all lights had to be replaced but still they said it would take 2hrs of labor. But the Prius in front me had similar work done and got charged for one hr of labor at a lower rate too. The Prius owner spoke Spanish and the male receptionist was friendly right off the bat with him. When it was my turn, he was snappy and had a long resting asshole face the whole time. I gave him the keys for service even it costed $550+ but i needed the lights fixes asap. Then as I walked away I just felt very uncomfortable and cheated so I immediately called the bigo tires on West MacArthur and they quoted me literally less than half of the cost, all in $250 and replaced some breaklights too. So i called to make sure this location didnt start work and got my car back and told them why and i was being overcharged. The male receptionist didnt give a fuck and said everyone is different. Yea, the difference is that this location is a scam and he also looked like a convict. read more

I have gone to Big O Tires (2625 San Pablo Ave, Berkeley CA 94702) since I moved up here in 2011 and I've never had a problem until last night. I admit that I am not the wisest person when it comes to cars, but I have never felt like that was an issue at Big O. Normally everyone is extremely friendly and helpful. I've even told friends and acquaintances that it is a trustworthy place to go. Unfortunately, my experience last night (3/9/16) changed all of that. Ronnel Agloro, the attendant, was extremely rude from the moment I got there. I arrived at 6:15 pm and went to tell him that I had a tow truck on its way and he seemed visibly upset as if the whole issue would be an ordeal. There was no one else at the store, and it seemed odd since he didn't seem busy. I completely understand that things may have been busy and he may have been stressed out, but his attitude was unnecessary. Once the tow truck came, we went inside and as he was helping me, the phone rang and he picked it up without saying excuse me and ignored me while he took the phone call. I also told him that the Triple A driver who towed the car said it was the alternator and I asked if a diagnostic test would really be necessary and his response was extremely flippant "Well one of my guys has to do it." I understand that there is protocol that has to happen, but his tone and delivery were unnecessary. I have never had such rude service and it has caused me to go elsewhere for help with my car/tires from now on. I consider myself a loyal customer and it really bothered me to be treated so poorly. read more

Almost forgot to write about this place. I was a 15 year plus customer with multiple cars, and they changed ownership last year. Will never ever go back to this place. My wife had a flat tire so she took it in, and they sold her two new tires because they didn't have the right tire in stock and wanted the two back tires to match. When I got home I said, I thought we paid for the extended coverage and we should have gotten a free replacement if they couldn't fix it, so I checked our receipt from less than a year before and we had paid for extended coverage. So I went in the next day and showed them, and they said oh, they'll reimburse us for one tire but not the other tire even though we didn't need a second new tire. I asked why they didn't honor the extended coverage the day before when my wife was there and they said, the store has a new owner and they don't have customer records, so I said well how is it that we're in your computer system and you knew when we were last here and bought the tires but don't know that we also purchased the extended coverage, and I got some smart ass lame yada yada yada answer about they have customer records, but not warranty records, and that we had to have the receipt with us for extended coverage. I said I've been going there for over fifteen years and nobody has ever asked me for the receipt and that we don't keep all our service records in our cars, and that it's always been in their system, and that maybe they should mention to their customers when they're there that they can't see whether they're covered or not, and the manager said why would we do that and said I was an ass. Called corporate to complain, they were worse than useless. Called Discover to stop payment and fight the charge, they said they'll fight it if I want, but to save me any further aggravation they'd just credit me the money. read more
