I'm not a fan of Big Lots move to become more of a furniture store, and less of other things like food, electronics, clothing, etc.

Port Angeles Wharf - 2nd Story Deck

Port Angeles Wharf

This was my first visit to Port Angeles and I began my day here at this Wharf. Port Angeles Wharf…read moreis a waterfront mall that has restaurants, an arcade and an art gallery. It is known as the Gateway to Olympic National Park. This mixed use building has a little bit of everything. You can also just stand on the 2nd deck and enjoy the beautiful views of Port Angeles Harbor. I was here early, so many of the businesses hadn't open yet. I sat and watched the ferry dock next to Port Angeles Wharf. The ferry makes a direct route to Victoria, British Columbia and back. As much as I enjoyed seeing the boats in the harbor, my favorite part was watching the otters play on the deck below. Several of them came out of the water to relax on the deck. They provided all sorts of entertainment before I began my day.

We didn't get a chance to give the entire wharf complex a fair shake, as we had to catch our ferry…read moreto Victoria. We were able to stop for a quick bite to eat at Downriggers, the entrance to which is a bit annoying to find; we circled the exterior of the building before realizing it was on the second floor. That said, this is a cool community hub with a lot of draws to it, including a couple restaurants, an arcade, an ice cream parlor, two art galleries, and some assorted businesses and marine organization offices, as well as commanding a fabulous view of the harbor and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Additionally, the proximity to the marina and all of its businesses, hotels, and the aforementioned ferry makes the Wharf a central feature of the area. There's plenty of parking, some covered, some free, some available for overnight, if you're planning on staying in Victoria for a day or two, at around $12/day (or $15 at the nearby Red Lion hotel). Just be sure you park in the correct lot, or you'll be paying a *much* higher parking fee from the tow truck lot.

If you are a fan of TSC, you will like this location…read more I was greeted by an enthusiastic strapping young man who wanted to help me out. I was looking for alder wood pellets for a smoker, and he let me know the know one carried alder pellets because the locals chip their own. I found his insight informative and his enthusiasm welcoming. They have your typical TSC selection, but with an indoor yard. Prices vary, so comparison shopping helps. I did find a fuel siphon half the online price. Woo hoo. Shop their flyer, there are often good deals there too.

I'm making a prediction: this location won't last…read more I've visited twice to make purchases so far. The first time there was no one there at the register when I went to check out. Looking around for five minutes or so, it appeared I was the only person in the store! Confused and annoyed, I left my items at the register and left, marveling at how this place must be a shoplifter's delight. Today there was someone at the register, but he didn't greet me either coming or going. After some confusion regarding my gift card, (which he blamed me for), I managed to pay for my items but instead of "thanks" he gave me a disinterested grunt. Perhaps I'm jumping the gun or am being overly critical, but everything they sell can be found elsewhere locally from supportive, friendly folks. There's no reason to visit tractor supply if the service is non existent. Must be why it's a ghost town...
