I just landed in Calgary and I heard about this place. I had to take an Uber and public transportation did not head in that direction. I tried the following. Shrimp cocktail. How do you mess this up. The shrimp had a weird taste and was a bit slimy and decided to send it back and not ask for another one. I order some oysters and they had only a few left. The oysters were good but the sauces they had were watered down. Decided just to leave after as it was getting late. Maybe it was an off night

We went for brunch and we decided to take a table in their patio. The patio is lovely, warm and comfy during summer. It wasn't busy so we got the table quickly. But, I have never seen this place packed. Our waitress was a lovely girl who was friendly and polite. The restaurant is wide, trendy and stylish. The menu is good as well as the prices. Service was a bit slow and when I got my cappuccino, it was already cold. I requested a new one and I got it immediately. I got a Dockside Style Shakshuka. It was okay-ish and a bit cold. It was tasteful but not a memorable dish.

This new restaurant in Marda Loop is a welcome addition to all the casual fare in this area. The ambiance and decor is fabulous! It's warm and welcoming while still being modern. The chef is brilliant and came out and met us and recommended a couple things! Our food was perfect! The bartenders drinks are unique and beautifully presented. The menu is large with a focus on Surf, Turf. and wild game. Staff is great but everyone is brand new, so be kind! Highly recommend this establishment.

We started with the appetizers, the beef carpaccio and Caesar salad, both were excellent and really set a good tone for the evening. The carpaccio was well-seasoned and fresh, and the salad had a nice balance of creamy and crisp. For our main, we went with the Canada Prime bone-in porterhouse, which came with two sides. The jalapeño creamed corn tasted more like jalapeño grits than corn, which threw me off a bit, it wasn't really my thing. The twice-cooked fingerlings with bacon, chives, and sour cream, on the other hand, were delicious, crispy, flavorful, and well-balanced. Unfortunately, the steak itself missed the mark for me. It arrived lukewarm, not hot like you'd expect from a high-end steakhouse, which was disappointing. For a cut that's supposed to be the star of the show, the temperature really detracted from the experience. To finish off, we kept it light with two scoops of gelato, one cherry vanilla and the other a lemon sorbet. Both were refreshing and hit the spot for a light, sweet ending. Service was definitely a strong point, our server was friendly, attentive, and professional throughout the night. Overall, it was a mixed experience: great apps, strong service, but the main event which was the steak it just didn't deliver like I'd hoped. I'd give it another try, but probably order something different next time.

But this is a much more fancier place then Olive Garden. As well the food quality was definitely much better than Olive Garden. I came here with a friend on a Sunday night. They were doing a Prime Rib special for $30. It came with unlimited soup and salad. To end it off, it came with dessert as well. The Prime Rib was 10 oz and it came with a side of mash potatoes and some greens. So the salads were really good salads. Everything were fresh. They have a good variety of options to choose from. The soups were amazing. There are three kinds to choose from each night. The night I went, they offered French Onion Soup, Steak Soup and Portuguese bean and sausage soup. Their artisan bread was amazing. I had one and it was an eye opener. I wanted to get more bread but I couldn't because I didn't want to fill myself up with carbs. Note the soup and salad bar is self serve. So you can go up as many times as you want. It is unlimited. The prime rib was really good quality prime rib. It was Alberta Beef and you can't get it for that price let alone the sides and salads. The prime rib was slightly on the bland side but that was probably because we opted out the extra $3 style for peppercorn or blue cheese. I am guessing if we paid the extra $3, it would be much more flavorful. The dessert was amazing. We got chocolate banana cake with ice cream on top. I had my prime rib medium rare and they cooked it perfectly. Service was awesome as well. I had a really great experience at Smugglers. I really liked their decor as well. It reminded me of Harry Potter. Note that you have to make a reservation before coming. This place is busy every day.

The "baked" potato was microwaved vs actually baked And it was so cool that the butter I put on it didn't melt. Ordered a side of garlic prawns and got 3 small unflavored shrimp instead that were maybe an inch long if you stretched it out. my sons fries were undercooked (some weren't even golden, they were still potato white) And said some of them were kinda crunchy/stiff. I had the owners cut of prime rib and it was smaller than the last two times I had been to smugglers where I ordered a smaller cut (first mate) And it was cold, even the au jus was barely warm. Also probably the smallest Yorkshire pudding I've ever had there. Maybe 1/3 the size you use to get. We ordered desert and it took newly 30 mins for it to be brought out - my son's "warm" apple krisp was cold he said. i have been smugglers at least A dozen times in the last 3 years and more so in the last decade and this was by far the worst experience I have ever had. In both service and quality. As it stands I would not recommend - where as before I always raved about the smugglers inn. For a $400+ bill for myself and my 3 kids, I def expected way better quality, actual warm food and not have to wait a combined time of over an hour for service. It was also my son's birthday, and he found the experience very disappointing and said he never wants to go back. When we booked we said it was a birthday, we mentioned it was his birthday and the server didnt even say happy birthday to him. Oh and it wasn't even that busy when we got there... there was maybe 10 costumers when we arrived. I might try it again due to past visits being great. But another experience like tonight and I'll probably take my prime rib expeditions else where. I doubt my kids will ever go back as the complained how horrible it was the entire drive home. I usually don't give a lot of reviews but it was such a sub-par experience I had to report it.

The duck & waffles was a confit duck leg, vanilla liege waffles, foie gras gravy with a bistro salad that had a yuzu vanilla vinaigrette. Duck was delicious. I liked the salad, but honestly felt that the vanilla in the vinaigrette would be best removed. However, that's my personal opinion. The waffles were... ok. It was like eating cake and bits of sugar. I mentioned to the server that the waffles had chunks of sugar in them, but she said that they were sugar coated. To be honest, I'm not convinced. there was chunks of white sugar, not a glaze...In the waffle itself. And the batter was very heavy, thick and cake like. Not the best waffles. French toast was great, very filling and delicious. It has a foie gras caramel, maple pecans, maple caramelized apples, whipped cream cheese and back bacon. This can easily be your new favourite. My mimosa was amazing, best mimosa I've honestly ever had. Americano wasn't really anything special, especially for $6. While it was a decent breakfast, I don't think I would order waffles again from here unless they change their recipe. I was also a little disappointed they didn't have more than 2 flavours of latte. I don't think I would return with the competition that's out there, but it wasn't bad.
