I understand the hype around Big Ed's, the pizza was delicious! The vibe of the restaurant is so old school pizza place in a very lovely way. Service was prompt. I appreciated that they sourced from a local place, Bentons for one of their toppings. Would love to come back the next time I'm in Oak Ridge. The only drawbacks are that parking outside which is parallel parking style can easily become packed and it's also just not my preferred method of parking to get in somewhere quickly and easily.

We've been hearing about Big Ed's for awhile. We took a road trip to try it out. The pizza is delicious! Be prepared that's the only item on the menu. Service was friendly. Ambiance is old school and we loved it....straight out of 1970. Check out Big Ed's when you have a serious pizza hankering.....you won't be disappointed.

Only thing they sell is pizza and beer. Can't really mess it up. Well you could, but not here. Service was great. Cashier sat us down and got orders quickly. Pizza made fresh. Dough home made and very tasty. Tool about 10-15 min. to come out. toppings very plentiful. maybe a bit chessey for me, but others may like lots of cheese. Sauce had nice flavor and seasoned well. Only had hot pepper and parmesan cheese packets. Place was decorated with old time memorabilia and old tome pictures. Place been around since 1970. If looking for just pizza and beer, this is a great place.

We were seated immediately and enjoyed the restaurant's atmosphere. Lots of cool military and shooting memorabilia to look at. The pizza was very good. The crust was perfection and ingredients tasted very fresh. The beer and soft drinks were very fairly priced too. Our waitress was sweet, checked on us several times and was friendly. I can see why this is a town favorite and we will be back!

When I looked up, I saw this place has been in Oak Ridge for almost 54 yrs and Tennesseans especially from the Oak Ridge have sentimental and nostalgia attached to this place. So, I had to try it out when I was in town. 14" large bbq chicken cost $28 in a small place like Oak Ridge seems a little pricey...if this was NYC, I would have understood because I paid close $40 for just pizza and domino's 14" Memphis bbq chicken pizza cost $18.99. Again, I understand the nostalgia with this place but this place is seriously screaming for a deep clean. The sitting area smells of pee and looking at the kitchen, it definitely needs an upgrade or a clean. The pizza was tasty but I have had better.

I've heard a million good things about this place and was really excited to try it out. I used to own a pizzeria myself back in the mid 2000's so it's always exciting to try new places. Sadly, the experience was less than stellar. The pizza was pretty good. I'd give it a 4. I really liked the sauce and the crust was pretty good. It was the service which was far from stellar. We arrived after 1pm on a Monday. It took 15 minutes to get greeted once we were seated, 15 minutes more for our beverages, finally after 50 minutes we got our pizzas. 3 of them and no plates. Nobody came back to check on us the entire time we were there (and nobody smiled or seemed happy to be there when serving us). I wanted so badly for this to be an awesome experience, but it just wasn't.

Wow Oh Wow!!!!! This place is off the hook. If you looking for an old-style pizza parlor this is the place. I watched the kitchen staff take time to make a perfect pizza. It appeared that the staff member took pride in the making of the pizza. The cooking was also monitored in the oven with the kitchen worker spinning the pizza to equally cook the pizza. First bite was a slice of heaven. The sauce was perfect with a great flavor. The cheese was ooey gooey and perfect. The toppings were plentiful and perfect in every bite. Best pizza I've had in Eastern Tennessee and anywhere around the Knoxville area. You cannot go wrong with this solid pizza institution.

I was craving pizza and this had the best ratings in the area - so for this town, yeah - it's more of a 4 ... but over all I didn't get what the massive fuss was about. First it's super busy!! Packed in fact. The service can't keep up and you barely see them. Might as well place and order at the counter, get a number - cause once you get your stuff it's like a rare endangered species sighting after that. Plus for us - we put our name on the list and then they lost our name on the list. After we saw several people who arrived behind us get seated we went to check and sure enough - "we don't have you on the list". Thankfully people behind us said yeah they been here a while. But onto the food and brews. First - I do LOVE that they had some regional brews. Beer and Pizza are a classic combo and I can't stand places that only serve the old school large corp beers. As for the pizza - I enjoyed the cheese that my man ordered, but as for my Big Ed's special wasn't that special. I don't know ... I just didn't think it was as amazing as so many other reviews. I'll have to try it again to see if they change my mind, but it's just a busy average pizza joint if you ask me.

Big Ed's Special with no onions. Obviously, it was delicious!

Big Ed's is legendary in East Tennessee. I hadn't eaten there in a few years, but when taking care of some business in Oak Ridge, decided to meet a friend there for lunch. What a treat! First off, just to give you an idea of how popular this place is, there was a line waiting at 11:45am on a Tuesday for the restaurant to open at noon. My friend and I decided to split a Big Ed's Special (medium) with no onions. While waiting we caught up & also enjoyed looking at some of the memorabilia on the walls. It probably took around 20 minutes for the pizza to come, but it was well worth the wait. Pizza was delicious, and I was glad to see that actual plates (instead of paper plates) are now standard. Service was good, although a little spotty. I could've used a soft drink refill, but our server never checked back with us. All in all, an enjoyable lunch!

Established in 1970 and sticking to what works this impromptu stop for pizza was a delight! Our visit was on a Saturday afternoon and it was bustling but we got a seat at the counter for two. On the menu, there is pizza. And only pizza. Great! That's why we are here anyway. The dough is made in house and was probably our favorite part of the pie. We had sausage, mushroom, and pepperoncini. Sticking to the original way, pizzas are cut with scissors. After learning this, it explains our mismatched slices, not that we cared a bit. The soda is bottomless. The beer choices were great, and only $4 a goblet. Aside from the food, Big Ed's makes service a priority. The first four times someone came to our table it was a different server. Then Tabby stuck around. She was witty and personable. She was super helpful with some establishment back story and helped us "fluff" our to go bag. The bag is Big Ed's tradition. She also advised us there is a gift shop upstairs. It's outside through a separate entry left of the restaurant entry door. We shall return...with family and friends!!

It's very open and spacious in the brewery. And now that I know it's dog-friendly, the pup will be coming with us next time!. They have bands occasionally, too - so make sure you check the schedule. We arrived one night, and the band was sold out - so we had to leave, but had just enough time to have a brew and a pie. So check in before heading that way to ensure you can indeed get in. It can get busy, and the line can get long - so be prepared, and you might want to get two at a time those nights. As for the food, I have to say the Greek salad was AMAZING. Super fresh, zingy dressing. Just so good. The pizza was decent - nice thin crust and fresh toppings. Will it go down as the best pizza you've had - nah, but it goes good with a cold brew. Overall solid place.

The Greek salads were great too--plenty for two per salad. They had a pickle beer that was yummy and dill flavored. The pineapple was good. And #10 Show me the honey 3.0 beer recommendation by the bartender was excellent. You can bring your well behaved dog or even goat too for a nice night out w a group. Will totally be back as it was a great laid back atmosphere.

Hmmmm, I really wanted to love this place as it's in my hood, but I was kinda let down…read more The staff when we went were super young and seemed a lot were new so I was trying to be patient. But the sweet girl taking orders didn't really know what she was doing and put in our order a bit wrong. The couple in front of us had their order messed up too. The interior of the place wasn't that inviting or clean, but we opted to eat in anyway. But IF we go back that won't be happening. My husband got a basic cheese pizza because that's how he judges all pizza places the first time around. It was just OK to him. I got the pickle chips since they were 'breaded in-house' and the BBQ Burger. The pickle chips were so over-seasoned and salty I couldn't even eat them - and I LOVE salt. What a shame. The only redeeming thing was the burger and fries. While the burger didn't have what it was supposed to on it and you don't get the option on the temperature of the meat, it was still a good burger. The fries were also super crispy and fluffy inside. So pretty hit-and-miss for me. I'm going to have to think twice before I go back.

While they DO have hibachi…read moregoodies that can be served on a specialty pizza, note that most of their menu is served as individual, more traditional items (like hibachi, a burger, or pizza...not all meshed together). This place was a bit of a hike for us but so worth it for the delicious pizza. We ordered a pepperoni pizza, garlic knots, and deluxe hibachi that comes with beef, chicken, and shrimp and a side salad and soup. If we were rating this place on the pizza and knots alone-5 stars all day long. The crust is so light, chewy and flavorful. The garlic knots actually remind me of the super unique rolls at the local Brazilian steakhouse. They have an outer chew but the inside is so soft that it almost melts in your mouth. The hibachi was...okay. My first bite of the entire meal was the beef and it was unfortunately so chewy that it was inedible. I crossed my fingers it was just that one piece. Nope. Our family ended up discarding every piece of beef, which was an expensive disappointment. The shrimp and chicken were tasty but overshadowed by the sea of onions and mushrooms. We were grateful for the salad and soup, although we couldn't distinguish what the soup was meant to be. My kiddo asked what the hot, brown salt water was. :-) The ginger salad was iceberg lettuce with a very thick, chunky ginger dressing. If that's your thing, rock on! For hibachi, we will probably stick with Fuji. In general, we will be back for the pizza soon and look forward to trying the burgers, which we've heard are great.
