We grabbed some food to go. There were so many wonderful looking choices. The staff were very patient as we debated the best way to order for everyone. I went with pork chops, mac'n'cheese, baked beans, and hush puppies with sweet tea. The prices were really great for so much food. My family had fried chicken, collard greens, and sweet potatoes. Everything I tried was amazing! One of the best pork chops I've ever had. It's pretty simple inside. The buffet prices were amazing!

Chicken bog, mustard bbq, Mac & cheese, green beans, Lima beans, Brunswick stew, and hush puppies.

Great lunch buffet! Get the chicken gravy on the rice! And the butter beans are the best.

Simply Southern Smokehouse - Pulled Pork & Fried Chicken

After landing at Myrtle Beach International Airport, my friend and I headed straight to Simply…read moreSouthern Smokehouse for lunch--and it was the perfect way to experience Southern hospitality. If you're looking for authentic Southern comfort food rather than another seafood buffet, Simply Southern Smokehouse is one of Myrtle Beach's best-known local favorites. The restaurant offers an all-you-can-eat buffet featuring a wide variety of home-style classics in a casual, family-friendly atmosphere. One of its most charming traditions is that the staff periodically break into song, creating a warm, welcoming experience that's uniquely Southern. The buffet changes daily, but during our visit it featured an impressive selection including crispy fried chicken, fried pork chops, pulled pork barbecue, smoked chicken legs, collard greens, green beans, cornbread, banana pudding, soft-serve ice cream, and peach cobbler. The fried chicken was outstanding--crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside--and the pulled pork was tender and flavorful. Personally, I tend to prefer barbecue with a deeper, smokier profile, so while I enjoyed the pulled pork, this is better described as a traditional Southern buffet than a destination for smoked barbecue. The homemade desserts, especially the peach cobbler, provided the perfect ending to the meal. The value is exceptional, especially considering the variety and quality of the food. The staff was genuinely friendly, and the singing added a fun, memorable touch that made the restaurant feel more like a community gathering than just another buffet. I also appreciated the thoughtful gesture of complimentary pocket New Testament Bibles available for guests near the entrance. If you're visiting Myrtle Beach and want to experience classic Southern cooking at a reasonable price, Simply Southern Smokehouse is well worth a visit. Come hungry, expect hearty comfort food rather than competition-style barbecue, and you'll likely leave satisfied.

Buffet only. So poor quality across the board. Hard to provide good food for tour groups of 50. I…read moreknow, but most of the offerings were just "fair". Pulled Pork was acceptable with a lot of BBQ sauce. Collard Greens were OK. Grits were not bad ! If you like banana cream pie/pudding, there's was pretty good!! I would not return. But where else do you go with a bus full of 50 senior citizens?

American Wagu Flat Iron was amazing, mashed potatoes were the best I've ever had, and cheesecake was great. I can't recommend this place enough. The caveat is, it might look closed from the outside because the bar is through a set of doors behind the dining room, and I guess most people eat in the bar area. We almost didn't come in because we thought they were closed, but we are so glad we did come in. One of the best meals/dining experiences I've ever had.

You can tell it's real farm-to-table quality. Our server and all the staff were excellent as well - knowledgeable, friendly, and very attentive from start to finish. Service was top notch. My only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the atmosphere vs. price point. Our dinner with tip was $190, and we ordered the scallop appetizer for $24 and received 2 scallops. The quality of the food definitely matches the price - it was delicious - but the space itself is one big open hall with a lot of tables out in the open. I understand the vibe they're going for with the name Crooked Oak TAVERN, but for that price we expected a little more privacy and elegance. Overall we would absolutely go back for the quality of the food and service. Just go for the cuisine, not for a private, intimate setting.

Smoke on the Waccamaw is an annual BBQ festival and craft fair. This was the first year and was…read moreheld on the 3rd weekend in October (Alabama/Tennessee game weekend). I'm suspecting that it will be the same weekend every year. There is a BBQ competition and all contestants must smoke Boston Butts and make pulled pork (hey, it's South Carolina). They also have the option of smoking ribs for judging. Cash prizes are awarded in both categories but in order to get the Grand Champion prize you have to cook in both categories. Judging is done on Saturday and the Shrine Club serves the pulled pork around 11:30. Let me tell you, that pulled pork was delicious. Being the first year, there are a few minor kinks the organizers need to work out for next year. Some extra napkins would have been nice. The festival also has an arts and craft area for vendors which is fun to walk around. There are also quite a few bounce castles for kids. Definitely worth visiting next time around.

What a bummer and a let down! While visiting our daughter at…read morethe beach, we decided to attend this festival to have something fun to do on a Friday night. After checking three different websites, and driving 30+ minutes to get there, we found out only soup was being served Friday night and the barbecue was not being served until Saturday. Also there is absolutely no signage directing you where to park that's close to the event or once your parked where the event is located, so we walked around aimlessly until we asked someone where the venue was and he pointed us in the right direction. Not one of the three websites said that the barbecue was only being served on Saturday, it they had we would not have gone Friday night, because I wanted barbeque, not no damn soup! On top of that tickets were one dollar each for a soup sample served in a very small styrofoam cup. My daughter bought a few tickets and some of the vendors did not even fill the very small cup all the way up so to me this was a big waste of money to pay a dollar for a couple of tablespoonfuls of soup. And from what I heard while we were walking around, we were not the only ones complaining about this issue including the vendors who said they had to be there Friday night serving soup to be able to participate in the barbecue in Saturday. To me this event was poorly planned and executed because If your websites say it's a two day event, then barbecue needs to be served both nights or inform people on the websites that barbeque is only going to be served on Saturday night so people like me and many others that didn't want no damn soup wouldn't waste their time and gas driving there to get barbecue to find out you could only get soup on Friday night.

The employees were nice and I heard the cashier telling someone it was her family's business. It's not decorated fancy , but the dining room is clean and has honest bbq. I got the Pulled Pork Plate with 2 Sides and a Sweet Tea. I also ordered an extra side. If you're a Veteran like me , your drink is free. The Pulled Pork was tasty and a good portion and they give you a bun even though you didn't order a sandwich you have bread to go with it. I ordered Hush Puppies as my bread , but still ate the top bun with my meal. Hush Puppies were pretty good when warm , my last one when it cooled down then tasted a little oily so eat them while they're hot. Usually I get a Pulled Pork Sandwich instead of a platter and have Slaw on it. Well I got a side of Slaw and it was Mayo style , not Vinegar style and I didn't like it. The young lady let me replace them with the Beans and they were very good. Potato Salad was average , I like a little more mustard in mine. Now for the BBQ Sauces. They have 5 BBQ Sauces which is a good variety to have. I liked the Hot , Vinegar , and Rob Sauce the most. For Pulled Pork I found if you mix the Hot and Vinegar Sauces it worked the best. If I would've had Brisket then the Rob Sauce would be my pick for it. The Mild was okay , but I prefer more of a kick. The Mustard Sauce was weak and not tangy enough and I usually like a good mustard sauce sometimes on pulled pork , but prefer the vinegar. Sweet tea ok , not too sweet like some places. Overall it's a well rounded bbq place. My total with tax was $19.70 with my free Veteran's drink , pulled pork platter and 3 sides. I would like to come back and try the Brisket next time. I would recommend you giving it a try and support a local family business.
