For Memorial Day Weekend, a couple of friends invited me to pick blueberries!…read more I hadn't been picking for a while, and I thoroughly enjoy bringing home a bounty of fruit. I had a great time, but definitely have a few tips for this pick-your-own experience. First off, call the number to check the hours or if things are good to go that day! Our friend called, and apparently they had just opened the season up the Friday before. Use your navigation. It's a ways out there. Bring water or your favorite canned wine like your good pal, Morgan. It get's hot and there aren't a whole lot of options for hydration. You should also bring a ice chest to put all your blueberries in and said cold beverages. Make sure to wear shoes and socks, and a hat is suggested! When you get there, you're basically just pulling up to a house. Go to the left of the driveway and park next to the second shed. Go in the shed (and yes, I may have said this is how the beginning of a horror movie starts at least 100 times). In the shed you'll find chairs, buckets, bug spray and instructions on what to do. COVER your body in the bug spray. As I learned from experience, it is best to spray yourself with the bug spray outside of the shed since it's not the largest of sheds. Make sure to get your ankles and any exposed skin. Pick up one pail per person. We put extra bags and zipties in our bucket under our first bag. It's $10/bucket. I would suggest bringing a check, but I believe he will also take cash. This ain't no Venmo/Paypal-type of joint. Then drive down to the blueberry bushes! The road is a little precarious so just take your time. We were the one and only folks there for most the time we were there, and a nice shower came through to clean the blueberries before we started picking. Very glad I wore tennis shoes and SHOULD'VE put on socks since me and a gang of fire ants had a little tussle. But other than that, the pickins were GREAT. Bushes filled with blueberries that weren't at all bitter, and not overly sweet. We each filled two gallon bags to take home! We did hear gunshots off in the distance, but remember you're in Picayune, Mississippi and it's probably folks hunting or shooting skeet, so don't freak out. The owner came out to greet us when we first arrived, and then came out again to the bushes to check on us, which is very much appreciated. I love the whole honor system way of doing business, and we left a nice check from all of us in his little shed. Also, lagniappe, there were a handful of kittens roaming around the sheds and a rando cat sprinting across the field at one point if you're into wildlife encounters.

They also host other events like- a berry bash, summer camp, farmer trade day, pancakes and pjs, and ties and tiaras. I visited for Halloween in 2018 when my son was about 10 months old and had a great day! They had a pumpkin patch, face painting, pumpkin carving, a costume contest, a corn maze, a petting zoo, a jumping area for the older kids, and so much more to see! Then staff were friendly and there was plenty of parking. They also have an elegant space for weddings/receptions. It is truly an enjoyable experience for the entire family.

When we got there, there was plenty of parking and very easy to find (thanks to signs along the way). Everything was organized from the get go. Several other schools were there, but they had plenty of workers to keep things running smoothly. I wanted to share their mission statement I found on the website because I agree they are doing this: "Mission Statement To provide an educational, "hands on" learning adventure for families and organizations of all ages. To spread the love of the land and animals to all our guests both big and small, and instill the importance of keeping the American Agricultural values alive. To provide a professional, clean environment with emphasis on safety and dignity for both our guests and our animals." Liuzza was definitely hands on and educational. I especially loved all the fun facts signs around, and in general the setup was simple with chalkboard and burlap but so cute and creative. Definitely knew we were at a farm, but it was just more cute than rough and rigid. The animals seemed happy, the strawberries were delicious and plentiful for the picking! I loved the bus tour and mule-drawn trailer ride but could have honestly loved if they had told us more about the land and the history. Such a beautiful and well kept up place though! I was so surprised to see that they do weddings here! A beautiful outdoor area was set up for a wedding and there's the most precious, little chapel! Definitely a romantic setting for a wedding!! I would just love to be a guest for one here! I hope to be able to return on the open to the public days or even a special occasion like their Easter egg hunt. We were there for probably only 3 hours but definitely could have stayed longer. We fed goats, saw a zebra eating among all the horses, saw cows, an alpaca, a sheep, geese, but we managed to miss the pigs and bunnies. Must go back for those! The kids went crazy over the awesome slide built into a hill and the big jumpy thing (don't know what those are called lol). We definitely must return and so should you!!
