Rouse's has a pretty good selection of just about everything. I appreciate that they focus on local, Louisiana products and businesses. The produce section is good. They carry a lot of organic produce which is nice. The liquor/booze section is impressive. Prices are comparable with the other grocery stores around. At peak times the parking lot is nutty and inside the store is a zoo. Checkout lines can get long but seem to move pretty quickly. It was late and I picked up in-store sushi. A California roll and some Sashimi. It was surprisingly good and fresh. Slice of cheesecake from the bakery- Yum A couple of great sale finds- avocados - 2 for $1, and cans of albacore tuna in water- $.97 ea. This store is just like your typical grocery store but with so much more things to offer besides groceries. Even though we were on a quick run for 2 things I managed to walk through the store and see what they had to offer. Next time I will make sure to bring my phone so I could take pics. They had quite a few child good staples and novelty's that I enjoyed as a kid; and still do if I'm in Louisiana to get them. The store was fully stocked, well lit, reasonably priced items, lots of deals, sales and the restroom was clean. It's December and suddenly, I had the major cravings for king cake. Mardi Gras season doesn't come by until January but I couldn't wait until then. I really wanted my hands on the king cake so I made a call out to the bakery department of Rouses. After a few minutes into the conversation, an order of the Bavarian stuffed king cake was placed for next day pick up! The moment it arrived home, I quickly went in for a wedge. Yup, not a slice but a very big cut of the cake! The light soft bread with swirls of cinnamon and sugar all throughout reminded me of a warm and fluffy cinnabun. The custard that is stuffed inside of the bread was slightly sweet and definitely velvety! Atop of the cake, sits a layer of icing that is generously sprinkled with multicolored sugar that represents the Mardi Gras theme. Very nostalgic! My palate and I would love to thank the staff who made the order possible. The king cake was so good that I couldn't stop praising how amazing it was to my family! read more

I'd never been to the Slidell Rouse's before, but on investigation, it's a good-sized store, and one of the cleaner and more open ones. This store seemed to have an inordinately large area devoted to wine, if that's your thing, but the New Orleanian soft drinks I was seeking were in stock as well. I didn't have to wait to check out, which I usually do at most of the New Orleans Rouses. They had a curbside delivery lane set up for those who prefer not to shop in-person. For my needs, it was right near the local Creole bagel place, so that's good as well. No complaints about this store. read more

Great selection of basic groceries plus Louisiana and Cajun staples. I love the bakery!! Gentilly parfait cups are a must ! $4.99. I will go out of my way for that, or a bag of Leidenheimer's rolls. Put them in your freezer, and enjoy at your leisure- delicious crisp bread in five minutes! Produce is lovely, and it's the only place I know to find frozen butter peas. I love Rouse's so much and have reviewed them already...However this is a different Rouse's in my city and I check in here so I thought I could touch on some things I hadn't before. You should know that this location is in an old Albertsons. I don't love the layout, but you know, it is what it is. Rouses does lots of stuff right. They're local. They support local farmers, fisherman and companies. I love them for that. They have a sushi counter and their sushi is pretty damn good. You have the option of white or brown rice which is great, since we all known brown rice is better for you anyway. Their cakes are really, really delicious. I order all of my cakes from them. I love Rouse's. I love all of them. This particular one may seem a little underwhelming after visiting some of the "fancier" stores like the one in downtown New Orleans, but still a go-to​ supermarket​. I'm always especially impressed with their more unusual foods, like Reaper cheese curls, and their wonderful bakery selections. The prices may be a bit on the higher end, but so are their products. So much delicious local food. We were travelling from New Orleans to Pensacola when we decided to stop for groceries. They have a lot of gluten free items. Don't think I'm coming back. First, I asked about a brisket. And got a we don't have that. Then got told about the corned beef. Ok, mildly helpful I guess. But when I replied, nah too different he got snarky with "yeah I know, I was just telling you what we have." Not so much the words themselves but the way it was said... Then I had picked up a cheap grilling spatula. Of course, no price yeah. My family for not checking. I told the cashier the sign had said it was $4.99. She calls for a price check and lady was like " no, no way" and shaking her head. I tell her where it was and she walks off. We stand there, and she eventually comes back with the sign. So the sign said $4.99 but was for a BBQ brush. I was looking for one, and didn't see them... Though there was a whole line of spatulas. I have been a long time customer of Rouses's, and the quality of their food used to be top notch. Their prices were always a little higher, but I didn't mind due to the quality and freshness of their items. Recently though, their fresh salmon filets have not been very fresh at all. They aren't past the expiration date, but every time I've received one lately, the odor of the fish, upon opening, has made me slightly sick to my stomach. I'm not sure what the cause is, but I truly hope they remedy it. It makes me leery to get anything else seafood or meat related. I get their gentility cakes for each and every family members birthdays and they loved it!! The icing is almond flavored tastes like a wedding cake but better with almonds in side and berries on top! I really like this store. It's a little pricey but the fruits and vegetables always look great. I love the suishi which is unbelievable, buy it's made fresh daily. They have a great deli selection. They also have some unusual things that you would not find in other stores. Recommendation-try the creole tomatoe dressing in the cold section it is delicious. They usually run out fast. read more

I mainly come for their soups, salads, and fruit bar where you can make yourself. Their soups change about everyday which is great! Surprisingly their fruits and salads don't wilt which is always great. Oh, and their sushi are always fantastic! Rouses is such a great store all in all. Other than that some of the workers seem almost just rude and a bit racist. For instance , door greeters are suppose to greet their customers, so I thought. Sometimes a good store, but today, shouldn't have opened. Tried to get hot food st the deli checkout. No cashier, sir go checkout in the lines up front then come back to eat. The usual cashier is standing there filling shelves. Tyson fresh chicken breasts on sale. No luck. Frozen, freezer burnt, no skin left chunks of chicken-I think- some other brand. Was told that's all we have. Same price, but wasn't worth the sale price. Satsumas on sale, but had to go backstage and ask. He brought me a handful. ?? 99cents a pound. Bought a pound. Slowest cashier in captivity charged me $5 and called them limes, after I told her confused look that they were satsumas. Only 3 checkouts open with lines around. We stopped in Rouse's while passing through Louisiana, and really lucked out with this place. It's one of those adult food Disneylands. They have everything you could need, and then some. We went in for some water and fruits, and left with additions to our wine collection. They have a decent selection of organic products for those of us who shop that way. Finally, the staff was friendly and helpful. One gentleman looked at me in an incredulously comic way when I asked where could I get one of those Muffaletta sandwiches. He directed me to the delicatessen right there in the store. Since we had a craving for a burger and fries, we decided to hold off on the Muffaletta until our next trip through Louisiana. Check the expiration dates, because they DON'T! I had put "fresh" cheeses, "fresh" packaged, chopped fruits & more back all the time because they were out dated. I bought some fresh mozzarella cheese, dated for 2 weeks later. Got it home & opened it 2 days later... it reeked. I bought Starbucks instant coffee on Nov 2. Got it home and THEN looked at the date. Silly me because it was dated Oct 14th!! My boyfriend & I bought "fresh" tuna steaks & grilled it with pears. We both got sick that night... I guarantee it wasn't the pears.
