A haven for comfort food, we have been dropping into Krummel's for 20 years for their apple fritters. They were the best: thick glazing; lumpy dough; and many apple chunks. On June 11 I dropped in for a fritter. What a disappointment. No apple chunks in a matrix of two different doughs, one light and one dark, swirled together, and glazed. It was big, certainly, but it tasted like a bread, flavored with apple juice that was glazed, for $4.50. Krummel's was the only place I knew where I could get an apple fritter that actually had apple in it. That experience is now gone. read more

Mandeville Bake Shop has been my all-time FAVORITE place for cakes and sweets since my family moved to the Northshore in 2004. When I got engaged, I was adamant about getting my wedding cake here. My fiancé and I scheduled a tasting, and his decision was solidified. We got both of our cakes from here. They were EXTREMELY reasonable, elegant, and guests raved about how wonderful they tasted (some still talk about it to this day). All of my cake was gone, and we had a few slices of the groom's cake leftover. My husband ideally wanted cream cheese icing on his cake, but given we got married at the end of September, the bakery suggested getting buttercream so the cheese wouldn't spoil. We opted for that and were SO happy with how the cake turned out. If you're doing a wedding cake with white icing, get the glitter/shimmer dusting. It will make your cake POP in photos. I was hesitant about it until I was finalizing my order and saw an anniversary cake (that looked like one of our layers) with it. read more

I would say this is the best bakery spot in Mandeville and it's unfortunate that I can't give it more stars. Every time I've stopped to grab some sweets there is an unpleasant lady behind the counter named Tiffany. At first I thought she may just be having a bad day but she's consistently proven to have no customer service skills. I've been getting cakes and baked food from Krummel's for years. Let me start by saying that their cakes and baked goods taste delicious! Krummel's is an old fashioned REAL bakery and those types of bakeries these days are few and far between--and Krummel's knows that. They know they have the monopoly on this type of bakery and their customer service reflects that! They can often be rude and not reasonably accommodating. My negative take away from them is that although the baked goods, especially their cakes, taste consistently delicious, they often times get it wrong on appearance. I get nervous every time I have to place a special order, because I never know if it's going to look exactly as I ordered it. This one took the cake though...(no pun intended!)...I went in yesterday to pick up some baked goods for Mothers Day and they REFUSED to sell me the cookies that I needed because they were in a rack BEHIND the counter and not in the case. I needed the ones behind the counter because they looked completely different than the ones in the case and they matched the theme for my event. I also special ordered a large birthday cake for a separate event before I left. I told the person waiting on me make sure to let her manager know that they refused to sell me the cookies I needed even AFTER I purchased a $150 cake! New to the area. Stopped at mandeville bake shop for the first time. Purchased a dozen brownies, a pecan boat, a shoe sole and I believe it's called a Prussian. Brownies were not large by any means and didn't have much of a chocolate taste; however, they were $17.xx for a dozen. The total order was cents shy of $30.00. It's my tradition to send my daughter cupcakes on her birthday wherever she is across the country. This year she is in Louisiana. Yelp search sent me to Krummel's Bake Shop and I'm so happy it did. They are proud of their donuts at Krummel's. Stopped in a little earlier and picked up a couple glazed twists (I know. Like I need them) for $4.96.I ordered twists because they didn't have a great selection in the case, and I thought it was odd they didn't have any regular glazed, chocolate covered, jelly filled, etc. Then as soon as I ordered I looked up and saw several racks of donuts on the back shelf. They are pretty good but I still haven't found anybody anywhere around who can beat the donuts at the Butter Krisp diner in Covington. I noticed a lot of other goodies. Brownies, cookies, bread, etc. I'll have to try some of those. They also had a couple tables with different variations of King Cakes that looked pretty good. read more

A company i work for had a large order of pies for an event back in November. We're talking 40-60 pies. The service was amazing, the lady who took the order was very nice and made everything very easy for me in terms of checkout. We come to pick up the pies at our designated time, all of them were ready, packaged so nicely, and FRESH!! The staff absolutely had to go in and make those pies that morning because they were fresh and hot when we picked them up. All around, wonderful place! read more

I just can't get that song out of my head after my last visit. The Mandeville Bake Shop is great for certain things. Cupcakes for your child's birthday are one of those things. Cupcakes with images from your child's favorite movie are even more of a reason to come here. On the way back from the beach on my child's birthday, we stopped in here so she could have a sweet treat. The shop is rather large with plenty of eat-in space should you want to get a dozen cookies and scarf them down before you leave. There is also a large display case that contained all sorts of baked goods including cookies, cupcakes, donuts, pastries and cakes. The highlight of this trip was the Disney Frozen cupcakes including the one bearing the image of my daughter's favorite character. You would not believe how excited she was that they had cupcakes with Elsa on them. It made her day, which in turn made mine. Since the oatmeal raisin cookies were right next to the aforementioned cupcakes, and what good would a review be if I didn't taste their wares, I bought two of them. Those cookies were so good that they didn't even last the short drive home. Do you know how hard it is to shift and eat a cookie? It didn't matter how hard it was, I figured it out and wished I had bought about ten more. If you are in Mandeville and need something sweet, I encourage you to check out this bakery. read more

They offer very good bakery items, but the service leaves much to be desired. At about 8:30 this morning (5-12-2022) I entered the bakery and noticed 4 employees and 1 customer being served. The other 3 employees appeared to be doing nothing at all except chatting with each other. I waited for about 30 seconds and still received no greeting, much less an offer of service from any one of the 3 employees. I finally asked, in a louder than usual volume, "can I get an apple fritter"? Not one of them looked up to help me, and one of them actually walked away into the kitchen area. I waited another 15 seconds or so and turned around and walked out. I decided to get my fritter at Mary Lee's donut shop right down the road, where I was greeted with a cheerful "good morning" and very quick service by the gentleman behind the counter. I've encountered this same sort of bad service on previous visits to Krummel's, but never to this extent. I don't require a greeting when entering, but I do expect my presence to be acknowledged by the staff. From now on, my bakery related products will be purchased at Mary Lee's, Donut King, Rouses or WalMart.....plenty of alternatives to patronize! read more

I am an economical refugee from Mandeville, ever since Katrina and now living in Knoxville, TN. One of the things I miss most is my King Cakes every carnival season. And one of the King Cake makers that I miss most being from the North Shore is Tom and Theresa Krummel's King Cakes. First couple times I bought cannoli, cream puffs, petit fours and a couple fried pies and chocolate glaze donuts. Everything was delicious. I stopped in on Wednesday and nothing g tasted the same as before and the donuts were smaller. Supposed to have been fresh but was not. Spoke to my Sister in law and she seems to think they have someone else making everything. Or changed the recipe. Who knows! Very disappointed! Glad I was in the area to stop in.
