I installed a split unit (Fujitsu) with Jason/Big Bear Heating & Air (02/09/2020). It stopped cooling and I have called/text/left multiple messages and to no avail. I cannot recommend this company. Obviously, once you have installed and paid for your unit, you're on your own. Fujitsu sent someone else out to look at the unit and said it was not covered under factory warranty because of a faulty install. So the workmanship was the problem. It has cost me another $1800.00. read more

So unprofessional. Referred by home warranty after A/C stopped working yesterday. According to warranty Co. the contractor was supposed to contact me. I finally contacted the contractor. He answered the phone so unprofessionally. Didn't state business name. Just said "hello". And I had to ask if u was actually calling the business. Anyway he said asked if I was from Lodi and I said yes. He said he would be here between 2 - 4 pm today, Thursday So at 1:12 I called to verify and he said he was on his way from Elk Grove. Waited till about 4:20 to call to check on him. Sent me to VM So I called warranty company. They called him and of course he answered. Said he would come tomorrow or Saturday?!? Hello. Called back late on Wednesday night before a holiday, the guy said they would call me back the next day. 5 days without heat they never called back. Turns out the motor they installed 2 years ago was under sized and failed prematurely. Plus, when the motor failed (the second time I hope) it caused the heating coils to crack. Save yourself the headache, these guys are bottom of the barrel that's why the warranty sends them. read more

Bear was a great help for me when my a/c went out, I called on short notice and he came write over with a part and hooked me up.

My wife and I noticed that our central heat system in our home was making a strange chemical smell in our home. Then after a couple of cold nights our heater shut down completely. I called a company ( not Bear Heating)and got a recording to leave a text message, so I did. They responded the next morning and sent out a young fella to diagnose the problem. He found some heat sensor switch failed and a circuit board failed. Then he had to order the part. Part came after a couple of days, young fella installed it and got the heater to start again. It ran for awhile and we paid for the $900.00+ part and labor. Soon after it quit again. My wife said lets call Bear heating because of the good reviews. They came out promptly and said the whole heat exchanger was worn out. The reason it was shutting down and the foul smell. Jason said we wasted our money with the other company and needed a complete new system. He recommended a new system that he installed in his own home and explained why he thought it would be good for us. He also noticed that all of our air ducting was coming apart loosing the heat before getting through the air vents. So I went ahead with a new system all electric. I'm done with propane. I'm on PGE so next I will add solar. By the way, Jason and his team of four had a new system installed in my home in a few days and it feels great. It is much quieter as well. Rick and his crew were so helpful through a nightmare experience with our home warranty company ORHP. He was was the 3rd company out because the other companies couldn't figure out what was wrong with our a/c unit. Rick and his team were professional, figured out what was wrong, and communicated with ORHP what needed to be done. After about two weeks of dealing with ORHP Rick continued to be in contact with us and did everything he could to help us out. In the end ORHP was unwilling to cover the issue, but Rick ran some numbers and helped us out with a great deal on a new unit. Response was prompt, within a few hours. We paid for the diagnosis of the problem with our air conditioner, but wanted to buy the part and replace it ourselves as the cost charged for the replacement service seemed steep (it was pretty simple and would only have taken about 10 mins). Even though they were all the way in Ripon they still came out to West Sacramento to give us a quote the same day I called. I felt comfortable with Rick. He was very professional, fair, and didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need. Another thing that I appreciated about Rick and Big Bear is that they gave my wife and I time to think about what we wanted to do and what unit we felt was right for us without trying to pressure us to make a decision that day. That made a big difference. The day of installation it was storming out. Rick new we had a newborn at home and had already gone several days without heat so to his insistence, they got up on our roof and installed. They were soaking wet and never complained. Jason is awesome. Honest, obviously a master at what he does, very informative and provides quick service. We are in the middle of a major heat wave and he got out here the very next day. He could have easily told me that we need this, that and the other thing, but instead he told me all the ways my husband could "do it yourself". If you are looking for an honest HVAC Company, don't need to look any further. I was using another HVAC Company out of Manteca for the past four years for the basic servicing. When winter hit, the heat part of our system was not blowing hot air. We got a quote and within two weeks while im trying to save my money for the repairs the cost went up three times. So i got on Yelp read their reviews and someone on their yelp stated if a repair costs more than $200 to get a 2nd opinion...sooo I called & spoke with Rick and he was willing to come and check out the hvac unit for us as a 2nd opinion for free. Within seconds the heat was on. Rick advised us if it goes out again to contact him. Rick even followed up with a courtesy call and everything was fine. The following morning the house was cold and the heat would not push out and i txt Rick and he wanted to come by now that it's not working properly and advised us what the problem was and what they charged. Lets just say if I had gone with the other Company I would have paid over $500 for something that was not broken and then had to come up with more money for what was really broken. We of course didn't have the money for repairs and Big Bear was willing to allow us to make payments. I am so glad we found you Rick and we are dedicated to your services. I got ripped off by another HVAC company(M&L Heating and Air, Ricky leyva) who were NOT licensed and used Big Bear s Licence and earned my business and later disappeared with work half way through. Through some search i came across Bi Bear and Jason from Big Bear (even though Big Bear has nothing to do with original transaction with me), Jason came all the way from Modesto to Dublin (around 60 miles) just to make sure everything was OK and charged with additional refrigerant since the M&L did not charge it with enough refrigerant. Called Big Bear for an emergency repair on a package HVAC unit. He got us on the schedule the same day and took a look at the unit. He diagnosed the problem as a hole in the coil, a small puncture in a copper line. 1st he told me the unit was old (built and installed in 2007) and he would have a hard time finding the parts probably best to just install a new HVAC unit $4000. I said no I wanted it repaired, he says the coil and surrounding media may take 4-6 weeks to get and will be $1200-1400 from the factory, he will call the next day with an estimate and timeline. The next day he calls and says 4 weeks to get the coil from the factory, but good news he can solder the puncture and get it done in a couple of hours. Why was the solder option not presented to begin with? In the meantime we had another technician take a look and his 1st recommendation was to solder the puncture, said it would be a waste of money to approach the repair any other way. No run around or upsell. The only reason I have given Big Bear 3 stars is the quick response and follow up. They probably deserve a lower rating based on what I feel was a questionable approach to the repair recommendations. read more

The crew just completed our install, and they were very clean/courteous/attention to detail oriented. As a contractor, I pay very close attention to the demeanor of employees, and how they treat property of customer. The Big Bear heating and air team, Scott, Rick & his guys, are top rated because they provide quality products, explain EXACTLY what they are providing & recommend for the best performance of your system. I had them install a complete system, with a UV air purifier, multi stage fans and heating. They added additional ducting, for better air flow to problem areas in my home, that wasn't considered to be needed in 1982 (when my home was built) No detail was missed, and I didn't have to supervise them, like most contractors. The final reason for considering Big Bear H&A is they submitted & pulled a permit for work done, and have a certified efficiency flow test scheduled for next week. All of the other HVAC bidders didn't want to permit the job??? All in all very reasonable in pricing, as you pay for what you get, and just GOOD PEOPLE. P.S.- I recommend them to one of my clients for a Remove/Replace of exterior A/C unit so we could dig their pool, and they were on time and charged less than i estimated to the customer. Was exceptionally happy with Rick and his partner. Came by to stop a leak from my heat exchanger. Blew out the drip line and drained the water out of exchanger. They pointed out something that when they constructed the house that were incorrect. Once I saw it I knew they were right. I waited to see if they other companies would notice the errors. They did not even when I mentioned it. After collecting other bids they still gave me the best bid. They are honest and truthful . Which is a rare thing to find now days. This team is great! We had a problem in December when it was freezing. Called Big Bear, Jason came out almost immediately to take care of the problem. Unfortunately, he had to order a part to replace in unit. Dealing with a 33 yr. unit, was not a problem. He ordered it immediately and installed the next day. Of course, we were in the process of dealing with damage to our home due to fire and could not at that time replace total heating and air system. He called to make sure, after replacement of part that we we're having no problems. If we did, to call him immediately. We asked for information on a new HVAC system, price, etc, as we of course needed a new unit. We had another company in mind, however, after speaking with Jason, THIS GUY NEW HIS STUFF! All the technical information, evaluating the size of unit,etc. Being an older couple, we were quite impressed with his knowledge, honesty, and pricing. So they installed May 7th and 8th one of the very best units on the market at a great price. Goodbye to the old man on our roof, he served us well. However, today we are enjoying such efficiency of the new unit. No odd noises, easy operation, cool air, and piece of mind of no problems. After another hour in 95 degree weather they fixed it once more and because i had used them to install it originally they just took care of me without the mention of an additional charge.
