Rarely leave reviews. But this one is totally deserved... Really amazing staff, went in for a last moment simple flat tire issue. You can tell they really care about what they do, took the time and highlighted a few small things that could have caused big issues later, such as the rear rotor not torqued correctly and was lose, adjusted the front brakes that were slightly rubbing and moved the brake line on the fork so it's less likely to get snagged up on stuff. Tightened some frame bolts too, Nothing was an upsell, but I decided to get a new tire even it just needed sealant, such great service and care overall !! They are also very knowledgeable on the trails in the area and sponsor local events and not overpriced either given the location. read more

This shop and its staff are my heroes! I was having issues with my brakes (own bike) and they got me turned around super quick. "Our wish is to get you back out there asap". Upon picking up my bike. the tech explained to me what was going on and what he did. Quick and reasonable. The kind of personalized caring service so lacking in most shops. Great bike store!! But after going on an 8 mile fat tire bike ride, I've leaned that biking is not for me!!! It might be because I went when it was 30° outside. It was nice strolling through town and riding but when we got to the trail it turned miserable for me. First it was cold, windy, and snow drift were hitting me in the face. Then about 20 minutes into it I got hot and sweaty. The trail we were on was paved snow but it was difficult to pedal at times. When you try and speed up or pedal harder my back tire would slip and dig into the snow. If you like mounting biking this would be for you but if you're just starting out I would recommend going easy through town first. read more

Friendly, helpful shop. Jacob and Kyle did some quick tune-up work on our bikes so that we could enjoy our short visit to Crested Butte and get as much riding in without mechanical interruptions. Nice shop dogs, too! read more

Walked in looking for advice to finding someone to shuttle us up to the 401. Wife is a novice rider so the plan was to lessen the climbs so she can enjoy the downhill much more. What we got was a "you have to earn your downhill fun by climbing the climbs". After I responded to that comment by reiterating that she is too green for that and we are willing to pay to for the shuttle blessing, we got another response of " There are other trails that may be more suitable for you"... I am so glad that this type of attitude is not the norm for Crested Butte. We had a much better and more informative response from other locals. Glad we didn't get discouraged from this because we ended finding someone to shuttle us and we had a great time! I have a feeling that it was just this one individual that thinks this way in this shop. But it is a shame that this person is your representative that because it seems that others has had great experience from Big Al's. read more

8/10/19 - Staff were extremely nice and more than helpful in getting us premium mountain bikes for our stay. Everyone was willing to assist and answer any questions as well as making excellent recommendations about where to ride for new riders to CB. They had a better selection of bikes than another shop in town and also keeps the bikes overnight for multi-day renters - relieving us of having to plan for those logistics. Stop here first because if the prices are all about the same, the friendliness and service will make the difference. read more

My son was psyched for 3 weeks leading up to our trip to CB. On his second run at Elevation, he blew up his rear derailleur, tore up his spokes, badness all over. Big Al's had him all repaired by 5:30 the same afternoon. Sweet brands repped in the place but enthusiastic, friendly service is the rule. Just a get bike shop. read more

Rode into Crested Butte from Aspen after making a bad choice of route over Pearl Pass. Rode straight to the first Bike shop I could find and it was Big Al's. I simply wanted to know where I could hose down my bike and whether there were any alternate routes back to Aspen. The guy at the counter immediately took my bike back and washed it down for me for no charge and a woman in the shop spent 10 minutes with me showing me an alternate route on the maps and dictating turn-by-turn directions (which were spot on). Excellent customer service! Right off the bat, all the guys here were so helpful and so friendly. Despite the line, we were helped right away and they got all our bikes ready while we were filling out the paperwork to rent the bikes. They were also able to give some useful information on the nearby trails we could go on. Plenty of accessories and stuff available as well, anything you could need for a nice mountain biking session around Crested. They helped us get everything adjusted on our bikes and taught us how to use the gear shifts and everything as well before we left, for those of us who are not so keen on the mountain biking knowledge. Helmets are included in the bike rental. If I was ever in the area again, this is the only place I would come for a bike rental. read more

I recently rented 3 carbon bikes from Al's and I recommend using another bike shop in town. In the morning the pick up and service was great! Upon return of bikes I was 20 minutes late on return and was charged a late fee of $30 bucks. I tried to explain that I spent more than 30 minutes fixing their 3 bikes after all 3 rear brakes were squeaking. Big Al's saves the biking day! Traveled over to CB from Aspen for a four day cycling getaway with some buddies. On my first ride, I lost all use of my front brake. After finishing the ride safely, I ventured in to Big Al's to see if they could correct my issue. Kip, one of the mechanics told me he had a new brake lever in stock and would have me back on my bike that afternoon. All the staff appeared knowledgeable, courteous, happy and ready to help in any way. read more

Everyone here was super friendly and told me where to ride and what trails to avoid (And they were spot on). Tiny store, but they had a good selection of gear. I didn't need to rent a bike, but they had high end bikes that looked in great shape. read more
