Big 5 is a non-fru fru sporting goods store... I check their backpacking gear regularly, the prices can be great, the brands, somewhat unfamiliar... it's not like being at REI. But the Big 5 prices are much lower. I think athletic shoes are a big part of Big 5. Their ad in the Sunday Oregonian is the best key. They have: Trampolines, basketball hoop sysems, skateboards, helmets, tennis equipment, grills, kayaks, coolers, archery, crossbow, a way cool tactical axe, fishing stuff, trampolines, table tennis tables, weight lifting equipment, balls of all kinds, guns, knives, watches, baseball gloves and bats, bicycles, scooters, rackets, roller skates, telescopes, binoculars, sunglasses, tents, backpacks, and a zillion different shoes. And, the service was friendly and helpful.

You walk into Clackamas Town Center and there it is... shining like a beacon for folks who like their gear fresh, their brands loud, and their hobbies expensive. Shoes? Lord have mercy. They've got enough to outfit a small army of marathon runners, golfers, and folks who just wanna look athletic while ordering takeout. You want Nike? They got it. You want those hard-to-find Crocs in that oddly specific color you saw online at 2 a.m.? Boom right there on the shelf like they've been waiting on you personally. Now here's the thing about ordering online you click, you wait, you pray it fits. Here? You just walk in, try it on, and walk out feelin' like you made a good life decision for once. No three-week shipping, no "sorry, sold out," no heartbreak. Just instant gratification, the way the good Lord and credit cards intended. And don't even get me started on the gear. Golf clubs lined up like they're ready to testify, YETI bottles for every hydration personality type, kayaks, bikes, floaties if it gets you outside or at least makes you look like you go outside, they've got it. This ain't bargain-bin stuff either. This is the high-end, "I probably don't need it but I'm buying it anyway" kind of place. Now here's where it gets funny the Oregon Ducks section. I swear to you, they've got better Ducks gear here than some actual Ducks stores. I'm not saying that's right... I'm just saying it's true. Brought my daughter in here once, got her some fresh Nikes, and she strutted back to her small town like she just signed an endorsement deal. That's the kind of confidence this place sells and it ain't even on clearance. So yeah, if you're anywhere near this mall and you like name brands, sports, or just enjoy walking around a store thinking, "Yeah... I could be that person," then step on into Dick's. It's classy, it's stacked, and it's just about the closest thing to a sports lover's heaven you're gonna find without breaking a sweat.

The…read moreClackamas location is stocked with all the usual suspects - bikes, camping, fishing, hiking, kayaking gear. But the swimming sectin is always lacking. Since I swim daily, I'm always seeking replacement goggles or fins - and typically find better options on Amazon, which was the case this day. The layout of this store was a maze with no clear departments or signage. I actually got frustrated and left after realizing I would not find swim gear here, and didn't have the patience to navigate the aisles.

Lots of cycling, climbing shoes, winter clothing, and shoes. Their kids/baby section is very small (baby section was nonexistent, but only found one bunting bag for a good price when the item was brand new). I found a new/lightly used kids base layer for $8! My big find today was a pair of Vasque hiking boots, which were originally for $220, but I paid $36! MIND BLOWN. It's brand new and discontinued. They have excellent vibram traction, medium to high ankle support, comfortable and light, and a non-mesh exterior. I could not pass up this opportunity. I also saw many winter coats and parkas on sale for a good price. This is the time to buy your winter items. Also spotted a foldable lightweight kayak, Yeti coolers, pet clothing/accessories, and tons of backpacks displayed and ready for spring/summer trips. The cashier person told me that the backpacking packs will be gone by end of summer. So stop by from time to time to see what's in stock. Quality items at excellent prices.

I have had the worst experience with Oregon Tackle that I have heard had with any company. I…read moreordered several colors of the same size spinner blade which I use to make my own spinning lures. When the package arrived, I saw the colors were correct but the blades were a size too small. Since the order arrived on Saturday I had to wait until Monday to call the company to find out what went wrong with my order. I talked to a man named Adam (I think the same person who took my original order) who proceeded to give me some kind of run around about their blades being one size off from everybody else who makes spinner components. But after some discussion he told me the proper size blades would get to me the next day,Tuesday, barely in time to make up some spinners for a scheduled fishing trip the following Wednesday. Well, Tuesday came and went and no blades from Oregon Tackle. I didn't even get them by the following Friday. So, I called again that afternoon and talked to Doug Hays who I believe is the owner of the company. Doug gave me an even bigger run around than Adam had. But again, Doug assured me the proper blades would arrive on Saturday. As I write this review on that Saturday, the mail has been delivered and NO blades from Oregon Tackle. These people must have zero business sense. I have been making my own spinners for almost 25 years using components from several different manufacturers and Oregon Tackle has the WORST customer service of any of them. I'm not sure I'd even call what they did to me "customer service". It was more like they thought they could send me anything they wanted and I'd be happy with it. If it weren't for the fact Oregon Tackle is the only spinner component manufacturer who offers the blade colors I was looking for I'd never do business with them again. Stay away from these people unless you want to get insulted, belittled and made to feel like any error is entirely your fault.

During that time, I managed to put 3300 miles on the bike; and on my last ride, I had two spokes break on me. I briefly thought about doing the repair myself, but I've heard truing a wheel can be a tedious process, so I decided to look up Bike Gallery. They had an opening the following Thursday, so I dropped it off one Saturday, and picked it up the next (I live 40 min. away). While it was there, I also had them do a "Deluxe Tune-Up" and replace my chain (which I had purchased, but hadn't installed). The work was completed on Thursday, as expected, and they called to let me know it was ready; and that everything went as expy. I had calculated the total based on rates listed on their website, and was pleasantly surprised to see the total bill was lower than expected. A drivetrain cleaning was part of the tune-up, so the bike looks great; and they have a 30 ride warranty, should any issues pop up with their repair work. I'm very happy with my experience, for sure.
