I wish I could recall the gentleman's name eho helped me this past Wednesday morning. I had come in for binoculars, asked where I could find them, and this friendly man took me to the display area. He was very patient with each question, and he seemed very knowledgeable regarding magnification, range, and special features relative to value. He helped me pick a good pair, and then he showed me some braces and supports of various types that might support my back. I decided on the Copper brand waist support. The store was not so busy at that time, but it still seemed as if he gave me the best service I've had at any sporting goods store--including other Big 5 stores. If you need sports stuff look here. They are limited in what they have but they do have most if not all of what you need. It just might not be a lot of options. The prices are very reasonable and the gear holds up. The staff helped us with getting cleats as they had a lot more in the back. I'd say go here for what you need and see if they have it. It'll be way cheaper and still just as good. read more

The dressing rooms desperately need cleaning. There were spider webs in every corner, which made the space feel neglected and unkempt. It's clear that no one is regularly maintaining these areas. While I was able to find what I needed, management really needs to step up their cleanliness standards. read more

I finally found the hiking cargo pants I wanted! I have been looking at other stores, and thought I would give this place a try. Glad I did. Prices are moderate even though it looks like a discount store. Mostly apparel but they do have shoes and accessories. Sometimes you find names brands for less. Across from 7-11. I saw signs for parking in the rear but it was easier just to park on Ramona out front. Sales clerk helped me over the phone. Check receipt before leaving as I was charged incorrectly. read more

Here's the thing we know retail is dying and it's a small town. There's not many options to go shopping for sports supplies for your kids, but don't have miserable people run your location or just shut it down. If the only option you have is to have one person there that's out of their mind miserable working that obviously also hate their job. I'm sorry, but that's the whole issue on why stores and businesses don't last anymore I'd rather go on Amazon because the experience is so bad. read more

Raymond the "store manager" doesn't understand what curbside service is. Somehow in his tiny brain he thinks it means you need to have a car to get service. He will not sell you product if you arrive on foot or on a bike. There is plenty of people who do not have automobiles here in town not to mention all the homeless that depend on the camping supplies to get thru life. It's not the drive up window at McDonalds. If there was less than a 1 star I would rate it on my visit. Upon entering the store two female associates were sitting on top of the counters talking. It was Black Friday and I received the sale flyer in the mail and I circled a lot of coupons to buy gifts. I asked the associates for help to find two items and they only pointed for me to look in that general areas while the two didn't bother to get off their butt's off the counter. The store was messy they could have been straightening or helping me find my items because I left with only spending $70 when I planned to spend $500 or more on gifts! I don't know if your associates are trained to sell and act professional. I was appalled with the customer service received today! I manage a store and I train my staff to go the extra mile with every customer. Otherwise customers like me get pissed off and write Yelp reviews like this one!!! Terrible experience!!! read more

Denied my 5 year old kid access to the bathroom. Guy at the register was rude. I know it's Covid, but my kid was literally about to go in his pants, and my wife was buying something. CVS across the street allows kids and seniors to use the bathroom if in need. I can't believe how rude the customer service is here at this Big 5. read more

Ask for Robert, this guy is awesome!! I was in town, overbooked where I was supposed to stay and he suggested a couple of local camping spots!! I just came in for one thing and he really went over the top trying to help me out, even wrote it all down for me!! Absolutely horrible service I came here to purchase a knife for a camping with a couple of my buddies and the manager rang me up and aside from being rude she said there was a limit for card even though the item i was purchasing was well over 20 dollars so when i went to pay with cash she asked for my id, i'm 19 and she told me the legal age to purchase a knife is 21 so i looked it up and showed her the law and she refused my service and asked me to leave, me and all my buddies will never be shopping at this location again. read more

Not too shabby/ Encountered some good customer service today while purchasing a rainbow parasol for the beach, a straw hat (they have a decent and cheap selection right at the front of the store) and I got some Thirst Quencher Gum. Fruit Punch kicks ass! I've bought my tan colored beach cruiser here last summer and I named him Champy for Champagne... thought is was manlier than Bubbly. Offer a decent selection of things not the best of apparel but after winter they have kickass deals on their snowboarding/ski jackets and pants. read more

I can't speak for the rest of the selection in the store but I came in to check out a .17 HMR rifle and after standing at the counter for a few minutes as multiple employees walked by me without acknowledging my presence I asked if I could look at the rifle they had on display. Two different customer service reps passed me off to a manager who actually sounded like she knew what she was talking about except when it came to actual specifics of the rifle e.g. magazine capacity. You're much better off finding a reputable dealer online and having your order shipped to a store or repair shop with a FFL. read more

You are paid to do a job if you're understaffed well then someone may interrupt you to ask a question do not cry about it on social media! I called to see if they had a firearm in stock, then went drove the 20 miles over to purchase it and was then told that they sold it over the phone to somebody who was coming from the the same town that I did. When I called about a pair of running shoes the people I spoke with on the phone were very nice had good customer service and didn't keep me waiting. I was able to put the shoes on hold and come pick them up. When I got to the store I felt it was understaffed however the great customer service made up for it even if I did have to wait almost 20 minutes to have someone find the shoes I had held. I like this big five better than the salinas location because it looked like a much bigger location and they had the running shoes I wanted in my size. But the salinas crew were also very helpful in directing me to this location for my shoes! read more

This place has a lot of decent cheap fishing gear but they aren't super knowledgable about it. Definitely not the place to go for cycling sports goods. I went to the store to buy a pair of Coleman sandals that were advertised on sale. I waited in the shoe department for over 10 minutes and the employee never asked if I needed any help; passed by me barely making eye contact. Finally, another employee, who passed by me earlier without asking if I need assistance, asked if I needed help. I pointed out three different style of sandals on the rack that wanted to try on, he comes back with three boxes, I open each one of them and notice that they are three entirely different style sandals than the pairs I pointed out. I walked out of the store disappointed. Customer service is lacking in this store, however, management is responsible for customer service and the conduct of its employees. read more
