Big 5 has always had that nostalgic feel for me . it's been around since I was a kid and it's 1 of the few stores left that have been around for ages Everyone was friendly and just a really good vibe. Walked into this store today looking for an outdoor hockey net and sticks, pucks, etc for my grandson for his birthday. Living in a Stanley Cup hockey town you'd think they'd have a section, a small section, one shelf, ANYTHING !!! Zip ... zero ... nil. I'm saying not even one hockey helmet or stick. What kind of a sporting "goods" store does not carry all the "goods" for all sports ??? The store clerk actually directed me to Dick's and said they probably have something there. Note to business owner ... get with the program. You not only have cashiers at the front who are more interested in looking at each others phone and you have staff who send your business elsewhere because you aren't carrying gear for one of the most popular sports in Vegas. I recently visited this Big 5 on Durango. When I came in, I usually am greeted by the staff. This on was different. The store wasn't busy, but I felt ignored by the staff. They seem to have other things to do. Once I got by the cashier (who did not greet me) She acknowledged the customer behind me. She said hello, acted like she wanted to help them. I felt because I am a person of color may have had something to do with it. Overall, I didn't feel as if I was treated with value. This is our Northwest goto spot for outdoor fun! The onnnnly thing is I wish store was bigger and didn't feel like everything was crammed in the space to fit. You kind of have to pivot at some points. They have a good variety of items. We were looking for flag football and they have different options which was nice. Bought Denali hiking shoes, shoes have poor traction and very slippery on rocks and also dig into foot. Tried to return and Mgr Alec at 6720 Durango LV, NV. said "no, I got my use out of them already" despite the fact receipt showed they were purchased only a few hours prior and he was also very disrespectful when I asked for corporate number and continued to say disrespectful comments as we were leaving. Alec has serious communication issues and needs retraining, this is not how you talk to customers. read more

We needed some workout clothing and accessories, so headed to this store, since we were in the area. Upon entering, we asked "Blake" where we could find the items we were looking for. He was more than cordial and pointed out where we could find what we were looking for. We also inquired about a couple of other items with another store clerk, who was very nice, but unfortunately, we didn't catch his name. Upon checking out, Blake made sure our items were bagged and handed us our change and receipts separately, which was appreciated. It can be very frustrating when clerks hand you bills, change, and receipts all balled up in a wad. Apart from the great staff here, I must also say that the store, though packed with a lot of product, is immaculately clean and meticulously organized. VERY impressive. I was in this area of town on the way from hiking at Mount Charleston and I stopped to get a new [pair of hiking boots (you always need an extra pair on hand!) They had the brand and model I like--even though Hi-Tec has discontinued the model. I got it on sale plus a discount for it being a display piece! Boy, I'm glad I stopped! So within the past year, I have turned over a new leaf on life, and started really taking care of myself. I have gotten back into being active, stopped smoking, and started eating right. To that point I have needed some new equipment so that I can participate in some of the more involved activities, like swimming, biking, and running. Thus my search began to find this new equipment. The closest sporting goods store to my house is this Big 5. Let me tell you, closer is not always better, just more convenient. The only thing this store has going for it, for me at least, is that I can drive here in 3 minutes from my house. As for everything else in this store, I was less than impressed. Upon entering the store, I immediately felt boxed in, and I am not one to get claustrophobic. There is merchandise stacked upon merchandise everywhere you look. I mean it is one thing to have extra inventory and put it on the top shelf or something, but that is not what is going on here. I felt like if i got to close, stuff would fall on me and crush me. The first time I gave this store a shot I was looking for a mountain bike, which honestly I did not expect to find here, but i thought it was worth a shot. As soon as I got to the store, I realized that it was much smaller than I expected, and that I could probably find it with a good sweep of the store. Thus, I did a once-over of the whole store, specifically looking for bikes. I did not find anything that stuck out, so i stopped at the front desk and was going to ask, because I could have missed something. The girl behind the counter had 2 people in line, was facing away from the register, and was on the phone talking to her boyfriend. The people in line were getting a little impatient and she was basically blatantly ignoring everything around her, in favor of her phone convo, which as I might add, was pretty sexual in content. I got discussed, told her so, and walked out without looking further. Very unprofessional. The last time I went in there was pretty recently. I went looking for a 'total gym' pull up doorjam attachment, so that I could practice pullups in my bedroom doorway. Of course on top of being unsafely stacked, most of the equipment seems to be just thrown in there, and not really organize like any normal thinking adult would expect. Basically you have to search through every item to see if it is the item you are looking for, because the staff is apparently to consumed with their personal lives to help you find anything, or (what would be better) to organize the darn store. I have basically given up hope on this store. I have gone there at least 5 times in the last year, and walked out with nothing, usually discussed by the attitude i have gotten from the staff. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. Just drive the extra distance to visit a store like REI or Sports Chalet if you need anything sport related, because you sure wouldn't be able to find it here, even if they had it. read more

Good of a selection as most of the bigger stores, in a smaller, more convienent location. I stopped in to check out a gun cabinet and was pleasantly surprised the one I wanted was on sale. The associate, I believe his name was James, showed me the features and I was sold. So I just got back from returning wrestling shoes to this location and I couldn't believe the way I was treated, like a criminal trying to hock stolen goods. I first called the store on S. Eastern making sure they had wrestling shoes in both 10 and 10.5 because I was unsure of my size, they told me they did, and only after I got there the kid tells me he misunderstood and did NOT have the larger size so I drove 30 mins for nothing. The manager then called the store on Durango and the 215 which is literally 45 minutes away from the Eastern store and they put the shoes on hold. I went and picked them up and bought them. I went to my jiu jitsu school and they informed me we are unable to wear wrestling shoes so I finally got in today to return them and went in to the Warm Springs and Durango location. I was well within the return time and they were unused, in the box, and with a receipt showing I paid for them with a debit card in my name. This eliminates any need to question the validity of this return and yet the manager (Marc) looked the shoes over like 5 times, giving me a dirty look the whole time, repeatedly asking me why I wanted to return them even though I explained I did not need them, and finally he asks for my id, which he snatches out of my hand and then drops on the counter, doesn't apologize, and then puts in back on the counter again without even looking at me and begrudgingly has the girl do the return. Am I missing something? I had them in the box still, with the 2 extra pairs of laces that comes with them, and I had a receipt with MY NAME and MY CARD on it and I was still treated so rudely. Why? This is fact though, I will NEVER use any Big 5 Sporting Goods store in town or otherwise and I am going to be sure to tell everyone in my jiu jitsu camp and anyone else I know about my experiences, that's right, plural, and how badly, rudely, and all around unacceptable I was treated from beginning to end. They wasted my time and my money and were rude to me to add to it. Terrible customer service all the way around the board. read more

After spending about 10 minutes wandering around the shoe department, looking for the style I wanted and getting absolutely no help from anyone in the store, I headed back up to the front of the store. With the recent snow in the nearby mountains, we were in a rush to find snow gear. I was pleasantly surprised with what Big 5 had in stock. I was able to get all of our gear for almost everyone at reasonable prices. Either way, the manager made it right for me, his name was Alex. He let me pick out better line at a discounted price.
