I had the privilege of working in the shoe department today with Zack and Sam. Zack is extremely knowledgeable at distance hiking and truly understood what I needed based on my level of experience. Sam sure knows his shoes! He knows the stock backwards and forwards and what new shoes are on their way. He could tell me how different treads work with the types of terrain I hike and didn't even limit me to what was in the store. At one point, he helped me order a boot from the REI outlet store. When I returned a few weeks later because it wasn't perfect, he kept working with me and eventually found exactly what I needed. Even cooler, Sam remembered working with me previously and was able to pick up right where we left off. Ultimately, I tried on or trained with almost 10 boots and I'm so happy with the results. Thank you, REI, for hiring employees, who know what they're talking about and thank you, Sam and Zack, for your patience and persistence, in helping me find the most comfortable boot for when I hit the trail. Addendum: Elijah helped me choose a lightweight, cold-weather hiking coat. He listened to my needs and matched his knowledge of the inventory with my upcoming and long-term hiking goals. It was nice knowing he used the coats himself and so could give advice about specific features. read more

REI is a great store for outdoor gear. This REI location is in Summerlin, off of the Rampart/Summerlin exit. There is spacious amount of parking available. If you do a lot of races, especially 5ks in Las Vegas, typically packet pick ups are located at this REI location. My partner and I stopped by REI looking for HOKA sneakers on a Thursday afternoon. They didn't have too much in stock, but my partner did find a pair he was looking for. The team member at REI assisted by providing us a variety of different HOKA sneakers and sizes. We had a pleasant experience at REI. There is also a membership you can get at REI if you shop at the store often. There are tons of outdoor hiking gear and camping specialty items at REI! Wow! First time ever in a REI. We went in a little confused, couldn't really tell who worked there. We eventually just called someone over and they got to us QUICK! Spencer was amazing! We went in confused not knowing about our sizing in hiking shoes and he guided us beautifully! I had done prior "research" on the shoes I wanted and he let us try shoes to find our fit! I rarely have an issue here but the heavy set girl with black hair working the shoe department was awful when i first came in i went straight to the shoe section to be ignored by her for around 5 mins I went shopped around, came back & she still avoids helping me but helps someone else who just got there l0l Anyways i finally get her attention & ask about a certain shoe & size they have only 1, a size too big. She offers me the display shoe which has noticeable wear & tear on it But you guys charge full price on a used shoe? That's something i don't think many people would be ok with. Why would you charge full price for a shoe in that condition I'm in awe. I tell her the shoes too big, & she just walks off Was really weird & all around rude. So you're telling me that after spending $ 140 - 150 on Hoka shoes and they barely last a year I'm not covered by any kind of warranty even though I have not hiked with them I've not done anything drastic with them. I just kind of wear them as my on and off weekly wear. Yeah, I'm done with this store. I can't believe the manager took the time to try to explain this long elaborate reason why I can't exchange them after they've been digging into my heels and falling apart less than a year old. I'm sure if it was a friend of his or they had a snack just before meeting me it would be different, but I'm not a friend and guess what I'm no longer a customer I thought they had a pretty good exchange policy if it's less than a year, my next step was to order hundreds and hundreds of dollars of merino wool tops and pants but guess what? After pulling multiple options they were relentless to find the correct bike for my wife to take home today. This location offers a much larger selection than REI's closer to my area. They offer a wide array of cycling gear, rock climbing, hiking and camping gear along with quality clothes. We called and reserved a sleeping bag rental prior to our camping trip. Pickup process was easy enough. We didn't check the bag out before leaving they showed us quickly. Turns out we got a woman's sized bag. Odd they never asked what size. It worked out ok, I swapped bags with my husband's. Turning bag in was an easy process as well. read more

The only and I do mean the only negative here is when the line is long, and you have one employee working the registers and wasting time upselling the membership. When there's 10 people waiting and a customer is buying one thing, don't spend three to five minutes pushing the $30 membership. Call for more cashiers and get the line moving. When this happens, you'll often see certain employees milling around the floor while MOST of the customers are in the line. Most the staff here is pretty knowledgeable. You'll get either a knowledgeable rock star or a total nitwit, there's no in between. Many here don't seem to have much true outdoors experience, so don't expect the be enlightened on your visit. Research the gear and read the reviews before spending your hard earned money. read more

I enjoy REI and can spend a few hours shopping here about once or twice a year. I find it annoying that the reps are always trying to get me to buy $20 lifetime memberships although I already have one, they want me to buy one for my 4 year old. Other than that, the reps are great and very helpful as they usually have travelled a lot and are very experienced in various sports and travel equipment. Did not find travel adapters on my recent visit. Needed them for South America. They have super basic ones, but not step down converters or anything of that sort. Pretty weird. They sell $800 luggage, but not travel converters. They have nice backpacks, sidepacks, stuff packs, day packs, etc. They have great hiking shoes and I usually will buy my hiking shoes exclusively from here. They are pricey, but I like the selection and they even have a sample rock climbing rock to try your shoes. They have bikes, bikes racks, camping gear, tents, hammocks, electrolytes, all kinds of clothes (expensive ones), shoes, some kids gear, snow gear, ton of hats, drinking cateens galore, lots of climbing material including robe/shoes/carabiners. They have hiking items and some travel gear. I found toilet paper with no roll which for some reason sounded amazing, so I bought 3 to put in my luggage. read more

Great REI. Came in here twice. Staff is nice and knowledgeable like most REI's First time was just get some shoes and check out any clearances. Seoncd time was to pick up an online order. Parking lot has clearance bars even though its an open lot. My vehicle is an overloading truck and all my antennas hit the bar coming through. not sure why those are there. The area mourned the REI is very busy, just be patient driving around. read more

The lights on the mirror in the dressing room were so bright I couldn't see myself. Stepped out to a mirror next to the dressing rooms and the reflection was so distorted. REI is a great place to shop for any outdoorsy activity. We recently purchased a bicycle for my littlest guy for his 2nd birthday. The bike was around $120. A Little steep for a bike he will only fit on for a short amount of time but totally worth it. It was their own Co-Op brand and it is a solid little bike. I have had other brands of kids bikes and I can feel the difference. This bike is solidly manufactured. The tires are quality and the training wheels don't feel like they will just fall right off. Our little guy took to it so quickly and effortlessly and I have to think that the bike has something to do with it. All bike purchases come with a warranty and a one year tune up. I have also shopped at REI in the past for running, hiking, camping, and biking gear. The staff is always friendly and knowledgable. Join the Co-Op for money back savings too. Yes their stuff is not cheap but you will be getting the best possible items for your outdoors activities. read more

I asked for good walking shoes. The employee brought three. I chose a pair. That was Oct 10, 2022. Today is December 10, 2022, two months later. The shoes had developed a hole in the upper material and the tread was worn off. Rei refused to refund my money. I have spent thousands at REI, including $4000 in one visit. This incomprehensible decision by one employee ended my decades-long relationship with what once was a favorite vendor of quality goods. read more

I visited this store in search of some new walking shoes. They have a very nice selection. The staff was super patient with me, as I can be so very indecisive. I have to give a shout out to Patrick, who really went above and beyond. He helped me on the phone before my visit, and probably got me about 15 pairs of different shoes to try on while I was there. The customer service at this location is terrible. On two different occasions I was quoted prices for insulation and equipment that I bought only to arrive and have a much higher price quote it to me do not buy any racks for your vehicle at this location. There are numerous other locations throughout Las Vegas that have much better customer service and will give you the correct price the first time. read more

Always a treat to go to REI. To be honest, I spend more time window shopping the new gear, looking for the next upgrade to my kit. Staff is super friendly and very knowledgeable. They have a 1-year return policy, ONE YEAR! Don't like the fit, feel, color, return it, no questions asked. I have seen some pretty worn boots at their Garage Sale from returns. Process is super fast and easy, especially if you are a Co-op Member. Speaking of Garage Sale, you have got to check it out as pandemic restrictions lift. It is an amazing opportunity to pickup some previously used gear at amazing discounts. these purchases however are non-returnable, so check them over really good! Their Co-op brand is a great alternative to name brands. We have purchased some jackets, base layers and flannels and they fit amazing. Quality is top notch for sure! We have been eyeballing their Co-op branded bikes, anybody have any experience with them? Store well to accommodate social distancing. We have noticed a lighter in-store stock due to pandemic when I have ventured in. Parking at this location is terrible if you have a larger vehicle. We have a lifted Jeep with a Roof Top Tent and struggle to find a spot to park as it can't fit in parking garage or under barriers on garage roof. Love the concept behind this store and enjoy being a member. When my hubby and I come in here to shop, we can stay for hours. Today's adventure was for a belated Mother's Day gift. I had needed a hydration pack for a while. I did some research and tried on both a Camelback and an Osprey. Both were on sale which was a plus. I chose the Osprey as it is shaped better for a woman's body. Not too big and bulky but comfortably and holds 3 liters of liquid. In addition, there is room for a sandwich or two, camera, sunblock and a nice clasp for a bike helmet. The best thing I like between the two packs is that Osprey provides a magnet hold for the mouth piece so it isn't flailing about all over your body when you are hiking. In addition, it was time for some new hiking boots which we also caught on sale. Score!! This store carries everything imaginable for the outdoor enthusiast in terms of hiking, camping, and biking. Prices are not cheap but they do have some nice sales. The equipment I have purchased has always lasted a long time. The clothing is comfortable and useful for hiking or just being outside. They offer great footwear from upscale flip flops, trail running shoes, hiking boots and hiking sandals. Backpacks, tents, kayaks, bikes etc. so much to see, and the staff is super helpful as well. Each month they offer talks and how to's in the store classroom and a chance to meet new people. I have recently discovered the adventure trips they offer and hoping to go on one soon. The end of the year dividend is a bonus each year so being a member is worthwhile. It is the only store where my hubby is not ready to leave right after he walks in! read more

Forget about getting your returns promptly. I bought a tent fan from this location off the shelf. The next day I decided I wanted to return the fan because it didn't have a feature I was looking for. When I went to the counter return it, no problem, here you go, your refund has been sent back to your ATM card. Something that should happen instantaneously in 2021. BUT 48 hours later is still no refund on my card! $40.00 is still floating in limbo somewhere. The worst part of the experience was the staff's response. When I went into the store about the refund, the staff, without even trying said: "oh we can't do anything about looking up your transaction, you have to call customer service." Even the guy who was my original cashier and completed the refund for me was giving me a line of bullshit! He said it could take up to 7 to 10 days to get your refund? What the hell is wrong with this guy, Did he not finished school and realize we live in 2021? This kind of transaction usually takes place pretty instantaneously? It's not 1991 (Oh yeah he wasn't even born then). Customer service is about being helpful, understanding, and truly trying to help customers solve their problems and be happy with the experience. Review is location specific. Otherwise I adore REI as a company. Asked a specialist about e-bikes. Was prepared to spend $2k on a new bike. Right before handing over my cc I noticed the 'M' on the tag and asked to clarify whether that meant "Men" or "Medium." He said "medium" and I noticed the max recommended height was 5'9". So I asked why he would try to sell me an expensive bike when I was obviously about his height (maybe an inch or 2 shorter). He said his job wasn't to sell me anything. No but your job is to educate customers and help them leave the store with a purchase they'll be happy with. REI staff is normally great. One bad apple that could use some training here tho. read more

Wow! Had the absolute best customer experience I've had in my life here with JD - super knowledgeable and helpful both in and out of REI! My group and I were climbing over at Kraft Boulders, and I was attempting to set up a top rope on Plumber's Crack on Split Boulder to prevent the possibility of a 25 ft drop. Once I got up there, I realized that we didn't have the proper gear to set up an anchor. JD was also climbing the route and happened to overhear me yelling down to the ground, and offered us some of his own personal gear to set up the anchor. He sat at the top with me and chatted while making sure I was setting up the gear correctly, and left us with a bunch of his own stuff with the promise that we'd drop by REI later in the day and return it to him. After a long day of bouldering, we dropped by the REI and found JD to return the gear. He continued to be extremely helpful in the store, asking our many questions about camping stoves, how to start a sport rack, and what ropes to buy. After hearing about our plans to go lead climbing the next day, he even took the time to pull out some books and point out directions as well as some nearby bouldering areas. We ended up spending ~$500 in total to start our sport racks, and converted one friend to an REI Co-op membership. Everyone else in the store was really friendly and helpful as well!
