I have seen so many huge mega sports stores come and go in the last 10-15 years. I thought Big 5 will not be about to compete with those mega sports chains. But guess what, I'm wrong! Big 5 doesn't have everything you're looking for, but they have most of the items you needed with a much lower overhead. They are the winners! This Big 5 store in Elk Grove/Laguna Creek is opened more than 20 years ago if I remember correctly. The store still looks pretty good inside and out. They have most of the sports items I'm looking for when I needed them. The store is clean and organized. The employees are nice. This is what most of the customers wanted! The parking lot is safe and clean. I have no problem finding a parking space whenever I'm there.

The person on the phone was polite and articulate to answer what I needed. The person even remembered me when I came in the store. Very rare to get this type of service. I am assuming the bad reviews are people who were educated and felt horrified about their lack of knowledge. Gun culture is an educated culture, be prepared to learn or abide by the safety standards and rules that adhere to them. Inside the store was clean and spacious areas. The department I needed was the firearms section, which was at the far end of the shop. That being said they have a wide collection of what I say good ammo that you can rely on for self-defense. What I can also say is that they do not gouge you on prices. The prices are well within reason, and they are updated ammunition. By updated I mean that they have different casings for those who know that grains and bullet type matter. That being said, getting plinking ammunition is a good to go here. You can trust the brands they have in stock and the staff for the firearms department is knowledgeable and friendly. Keep in mind the long wait is due to either education, or the long lengthy checks to get said items. That being said, pay your taxes, pay your registration fees, do your due diligence and you're out and about easy. I may bring in my gun to get checked by their smith. But TBH American Made Baretta 9mm FS is the far superior choice than the mass produced m9 and Italian made one. I don't think I need a service on my weapon in quite some time. Do your research, some things made in America, is better and not well advertised. This goes for the ammunition as well. To the dude who helped me. Thank you, man. Thank you for your service as well. Representing Americans to the finest quality one can hope for. Thank you. Update - Put the wrong review for the wrong location. Review is for the gun cleaning. Brought my gun in to be cleaned. I would do it myself, but I have a child, and those chemical fumes are strong. That being said professionals have better tools, cleaners, and or oils. Their selections of firearms are quite nice. My instructor likes a sig 1911. TBH I just think he likes the SIG brand. He changed his mind after a few rounds of the broken in Baretta. I prefer the Baretta 92 FS. Not the M9. Note. The M9 Baretta is the same model, except mass produced for the military - also easier to track supposedly. Jamming on said Baretta is due to reloading too fast and not waiting for a full decock and one in the chamber load. That being said, make sure the entire magazine is fitted securely then take the safety off. Point blank, the 92FS will cock with the safety on automatically when empty, this is the reload problem as some people are able to reload too fast before taking the safety off to decock. That being said, my 92FS shoots true in a bladed stance at rapid fire. Note. 5 round rapid fire, 15-20 feet distance from target, and before the target paper flies up can be done with the 92FS. Within range, within standard, with a hard skill set notation. Note. You will get kicked out for rapid fire in most shooting ranges. Note. I had to break in my gun with a lot of rounds before it rang true. Expect to spend 2k+ ammo of breaking in a 92FS. Note. This location sells firearms for rather cheap, and at a good price. Considering inflation, the cost they have is almost the cost my firearm cost a decade ago. According to their list my firearm is 30 bucks to clean. Took about 30min to clean maybe more. That being said the gun came back clean, not greasy and one definite caveat. No odor. I got called to the desk when the item was done. There is a bathroom in the facility so no need to worry while you are waiting. I think the dude even cleaned my gun case too. Wonderful service. Note. They have a membership cleaning service or something that I just ignored and wasn't pressed about it.

I do have to admit that this place is going down and it's gonna go out of business most likely…read moresoon. You can see on the organizational level that the management here is not giving effort into the store. They have the coolers sent out prominently in the front of the store to grab everybody's attention and yet there's no prices on any of them and they have multiple different ones. No display nothing. Then I went over to the wall to look at cooler for about 20 minutes, searching all the coolers on the wall. They were all disorganized and I could not tell what price was what on which one. They were coolers in the wrong places and no customer can tell where the price is for any of them. In the front of the store when I go to pay, they don't accept Apple Pay. This is 2026 and the only reason that I can possibly see why places like Home Depot Walmart and sportsman's warehouse only take cards is because with Apple Pay they can't get your address and information in their database. But when you use a card they can. I went to the back of the store to go look for lures and jig heads, and there was about three men back there shopping for stuff. I don't even know the guys, and I heard them actually say the same thing they can't find the prices. This is actually like job number one for a manager to manage. His employees in the story is to ensure that his merchandise actually has prices on it so the customers when they go when they buy really quick, they can find the prices really fast. Apparently not here. Do not recommend this place

I have to say I'm very impressed by this store with it being my first time visiting. I was immediately greeted by all the staff members who were near the entrance. One of the associates, Renee, asked what brought me in and I told her. She kindly walked me over to the biking section of their store showing off different items. She then asked if I was a member and proceeded to explain membership benefits after I informed her that I didn't know what the membership entailed so their service is excellent. Everyone was kind and informative. They have an extensive selection of outdoor sporting goods accessories and clothing. I thought the membership was a good value since it's just a one time purchase at $30 and they had a special where if you spent $50 in addition to joining you'd get the $30 back in a promotional gift card so I bought my helmet and gloves in addition to a membership. While I'm glad I joined and enjoyed their selection of items they had on clearance, I will admit that their prices can be on the higher end. That wasn't something I was expecting to see even within their clearance and slightly used items. I'm sure the quality is definitely there but those prices caught me off guard. However, even with those unexpectedly higher prices on merchandise, I still felt like it was worth shopping there due to their excellent service, membership perks, and higher quality products in comparison to other retailers that might offer lower prices but you'll eventually pay for that with poor service and quality. I can't wait to start using my membership perks.

I had an exceptional experience at Fleet Feet in Elk Grove!…read more First off, I was looking to do a shoe fitting, so a few days in advance, I had selected an appointment online. It was very easy to book. On the day of my appointment, I came in 5-10 minutes ahead of my appointment time. I walked to the register and I was helped by Hannah (I hope I heard her name correctly!) She checked me in and directed me to take a seat towards the women's shoes area. She asked me my goals for the shoe fitting appointment, what I liked about my current running shoes, and what brands I was looking into. She then had me complete the feet scan. There is an area in the middle of the store, where you stand on a platform that scans your feet. Thereafter, you will walk several times back and forth on a pressure platform until the staff member tells you to stop. This pressure platform gives you a sense for where your weight is distributed when you are walking. Hannah showed me my scan results on a tablet. I learned that it is totally normal to have a discrepancy in feet size. I also learned about other things about my anatomy like arch and shoe recommendations. The scan results can be sent to your email. Unfortunately, shoe recommendations that are provided during your appointment are not provided through the email, so it is recommended that you take pictures of the shoes that you try on, that you're considering. When you're trying on shoes, they want you to wear their laundered socks to keep their shoes clean. Hannah brought out probably 3-4 pairs of shoes initially for me to try on. She helped me put the shoes on and had me walk back and forth in the store to test the shoes out. After that first round, she probably brought out an additional 1-2 pairs based on how I felt about the initial pairs she brought out. Ultimately, it came down to two pairs. Since I was undecided, she let me simulate running as I would, which was incredibly helpful, and I totally did not expect that level of service. I appreciated that she was warm and friendly, extremely knowledgeable, truly listened to my preferences and concerns, and never pressured me to purchase in that visit. Prior to the fitting, I was a bit nervous that I would be pressured to purchase items, and I am so glad that Hannah totally exceeded my expectations. Hannah also gave great advice on when to return for shoe fittings, such as if you experience a new injury/experience changes in your body (I never really thought of coming back to get refitted, but it makes total sense). This was also the first time I spent a considerable amount of time in this Fleet Feet location. They have a good amount of brands in here, such as Chicken Legs and Vuori. I'm personally a big fan of Vuori, and found that they had a clearance rack with some 50% off items with a nice selection in the back corner of the store. Overall, based on this experience, I would totally come back for my running gear needs!

He didn't push us towards the expensive shoe and remained easygoing and informative with other shoes he tried on, which made the experience pleasant for both my son and I. They can get busy, so I recommend making an appointment for a foot analysis if you can, especially if it's your first visit.
