I got the impression they're trying to rip people off. Went in asking for a complete group set to change a 2x to a 1x and started being interrogated. I was told it would be "quite expensive". I guess he was trying to find out how competent I was in bicycle components, so he could figure out how much he could tape me. FYl they don't stock complete group sets, and if they did it seems like they'll want to be the ones doing the install.I have a feeling this place takes advantage of people who don't know better. I called in, said my name and asked the gentleman how he was doing. Got a pretty rough "okay" to start with. I explained my bike just need to be lightly tuned up it would take me all of 15 minute my tools are just scattered and i was looking for a good or a service, as customers do. he told me drop it off and id get it back in 2 weeks. i asked for a price, "don't know, have to see it" tried to give him a general synopsis of my issue and he just immediately shouted 90, it'll be more than that with tires explained that i didn't need tires, just air and a couple things tightened, bikes in running order, again cut off with 90! why have a business at that point is my question read more

I was leaving the state for four months to have a stem cell transplant. i did not know I Was returning. I wanted to purchase my fiancé a 3 wheel 7 speed bike. We have an extremely steep driveway and she would need the 7 speeds when carrying stuff in the basket. i dealt with Adam. Nice guy but not a man of his word. IN SHORT: 1. My first bike ordered was entered as a completed purchase. I checked in with Adam to see what was taking so long and he said he thought I had picked it up. This was the exact bike she wanted. When I showed up to reorder he said the bike was no longer available. 2. We went back and picked out a second similar bike but now it was no longer a surprise for her birthday. He pushed the bike he tried to originally sell to me. It was Gold 7 speed not mint green like the original order. 3. When the bike came in 3 weeks later. It was a one speed. It's now been almost 8 weeks since my original order. Adam told me he was going to order a seven speed kit and contact me when it's in. I can bring the bike back and they will install it. I DID PAY FOR A SEVEN SPEED. 4. I left for my bone marrow transplant on August 13, 2020. Spent 45 days in the hospital and four months away from home. I returned home on January 2021 and I still have a one speed bike. NO FOLLOWUP AT ALL by ADAM I'll be working with another bicycle shop soon to correct Adam's mistake once I can get my immune system back. He lost a great customer. I'll never return, even if the bike was free. NO INTEGRITY! This is my first time every filling out an online complaint. read more

I am a business owner and understand how these reviews can affect a business. So, I have never left a negative post for any person or business - even if given poor service prior to this - ever. However, this one needs to be put out there. Then you decide. I purchased a bike from these guys back in October 2020. It was to be delivered the last week of November of 2020. When that time came and passed, I called to see what was up. Adam - the worst part of this company - explained that this has never happened before and due to Covid that the bike will be another 6 months. 6 months ... I asked why? He couldn't answer nor even tell me when it would definitively be delivered and just kept fumbling his words making it sound worse and worse every time he spoke. He never even offered to return my deposit when he knew he could not deliver. He tried to sell me another bike instead. Then, he just gave a random date for 'expected delivery' that he knew he could not deliver and of course offered a different bike for more money in the meantime if I would like - without even offering any substantial discount. Woof!! Adam, the manager or owner?, is the one making these bad decisions then when he cant deliver he blames them on people overseas! It should go without saying but will I not be back, and since I tried so hard to allow them to make it right with me when they did not, I felt I had to share this experience. The bike was eventually delivered ... 6 months late, the bike was stripped down when they did deliver today April 07, 2021, and again I asked for them to make it right for their mistake. I did not complain the entire 6 months. I only asked for updates. I totally expected them to try to make it right but when I picked it up it was stripped down and offered at my original price!!! He made no effort to make it right. Then tried to sell me add ons!!!! Adam really is good at not telling the truth. When you sell what you cant deliver then blame everything on others without any attempt of reconciliation you really shine bright. All he did was just kept saying bs after bs after bs. Slimy salesman - coming from someone in sales. Then gave me written directions for when to come back for the first 'tune-up'. Nothing else. Nada. Lol well actually, he offered half off a $25 kick stand - which he previously offered for free. Lol You can spend your money at a better businesses than this. Buyer beware!!! After at least 2 years of off and on looking for a bike, I finally purchased a Raleigh Venture from Bicycle World today. I'd been riding a hand me down road bike when needed, but wanted to purchase something more commuter friendly for myself. I looked everywhere, craigslist, used bike shops, Michaels, Walmart, Target, Amazon, eBay and GNO. I have to say, GNO was the biggest disappointment as I felt the "dancing man" who greeted me just didn't take my needs seriously. I'd gone to Adam's before on recommendation from a serious cycler, but the prices kind of discouraged me. However, after realizing that the cheaper bikes at Walmart and other stores were just, well, cheap. I decided to up my budget a bit and get something I could trust. What I loved: Jay, my salesperson, was AMAZING. The second I walked in, he made me feel like trying every bike in the store was more than okay, but necessary. He properly fitted me on each option before allowing me to take it out for a test run. He made sure to ask all the appropriate questions, before and after my ride and took everything I had to say seriously in order to direct me to the next better option. I also appreciated his detailed explanations of what made each bike unique and what I should be paying attention to when riding. There was no pressure and he even suggested I go to other shops if needed to try out other bikes before deciding. Honestly, I'd already been everywhere and hadn't received event a 10th the assistance as I did at Bicycle World. Plus, warranty and service plans are great. If you already know a everything about bikes and know exactly what you want, then go wherever...but if you want an expert and need someone to really help you on your bike purchase journey, go to Bicycle World. read more

Bicycle World on Jefferson Highway should be your go-to for Giant bike purchases, as well as service, maintenance, and repair. They also do excellent work on used bikes. I brought a 25-30 year-old Iguana for a tuneup and some repairs, and co-owner Adam checked it in, giving advice here and there. Then mechanic Chris performed expert repair and tuneup work, texting me when the work was complete. They are timely, professional, have competitive pricing, and as far as I can tell are honest. Adam even noticed that my crank may be a recall, and after Chris checked, it was confirmed. Good catch guys! read more

I highly recommend Bicycle World. I don't ride, myself, but cycling is my special needs brother's main mode of transportation. The staff there - especially Rick and Adam - take time with him to make sure he gets the best bike for his needs and knows how to take care of it. We've purchased several bikes here, and they keep great records of our previous purchases which help us understand what services might be needed. With our most recent bike purchase, they didn't have the bike we wanted in stock so they said it would take about a week to come in. I am, of course, talking from my experience. I have read the good and bad reviews as well. I had known them in the past (circa 20yrs) as I was new to the city and was shopping around different stores. I was not impressed but I already know the cycling world... I moved to north of Metairie and looked for a bike store closer to me. It only took me a few years to run away from them due to an expensive and bad situation which the store manager not only did NOT managed well but happened to be very greedy. Then I went to Bicycle World. I was needing an upgrade for my 2001 Litespeed and also I was riding with a lot of neck and shoulder pain. Not only the guys were very helpful but knowledgeable and they detected immediately the problem. Since then no more shoulder pain. Many years later, I needed a saddle upgrade and again, this time Adam, was very accommodating and helpful. We all make mistakes as we are human and also it depends on the attitude we present to others. As for me I try not to be an @&@!? and negotiate issues. I've never had a problem with them and if I do, civil behavior helps to get things done. read more

Bicycle World dropped Adam out of their name & moved to Jefferson Hwy just over the parish line in Jefferson Parish, post-Katrina. I bought my current bike from them in spring of 2006 and was really happy with the service and assistance that they offered. I had never bought a "real" bike before...just ones that you could pick up at K-Mart. The bike that they sold me has held up the NOLA city streets just like they said it would. I haven't had any service work done so I can't really speak to that service. read more

I had a great experience with Darryl W at Bicycle world. I bought a rare bicycle that the shop had originally obtained new for a very fit rider to do some racing on, but it didn't end up getting used much. All the transactions were electronic and on the phone. Darryl was very honest in his description of the bike which I bought as a frameset. He knew what parts would work together and made sure that I ended up with all the parts I need to be able to put it together and get it on the road (with adding my parts on hand), He packed it very well in a custom box he put together, wrapped the frameset really well, even putting a old axle on the rear dropout (instead of just a plastic spacer) and put the quick release arm straight down to further protect the derailleur hanger, besides the many layers of foam wrapped around the axle. The various parts came in individually wrapped bubble wrap packets with tape around them and the contents of each packet was written on the tape, those packets were put into a box glued to the bottom of the shipping box, he even included a couple packets of carbon assembly grease. The feeling I got is that he cares about making sure that things were done properly as if it was his own bike that he was going to be putting together. I'm going into detail to give examples of how thorough he was with everything associated with the transaction/ parts compilation/ documentation/ packing/ follow up. As we were progressing along he sent many pictures and answered all my questions. Darryl is the only one I dealt with at Bicycle world, but I hope the other employees are nearly as good. I see too many instances where people (including bike mechanics) don't seem to be interested enough in what they do for a living to learn all the technical details and attentive enough to do the right things right and it creates problems down the road when they miss details that make the difference. Recently had my son's and my bike stolen and our NOPD district office told us good luck ever recovering those stolen goods which lead us down this venture. While we were shopping on line we decided to check out Bicycle World and its inventory. So glad we did, we ended up with two Giant MTB and even a Sun trike for the old lady! The prices are competitive, not the lowest I found (only reason for four stars), as compared to online but I'm telling you folks I would argue that the what you pay here will be paid back in dividends on customer service and the certified work (tune ups or maintenance). Compare this to ordering on line, having an issue with your bike and dialing an outsourced third party customer service 1-800 number to a location overseas (true story). As I am not a bike a mountain bike aficionado and only been riding since 2011, Chris (our sales rep) took the time to square me away on getting the right fit for my vertically inclined physique. He also provided some good information what may work best for the level of biking experience as he did with my 17 y/o son without pushing the top dollar bikes;) No pressure. The whole staff is very welcoming and helpful. On a parting note, my wife's trike did not fit in my SUV and Chris volunteered to help me out in getting my bike delivered to Algiers Point free of charge, not saying that those are standard procedures but that was a stand up move on his part. I would recommend this shop to anyone in the market for a quality of any style ride and experience as they have a pretty robust inventory. Shop local and help shops like this stay in business. It's hard to review this place succinctly. Though the guys who work there are very nice, and I ended up with a bike that I enjoy, I wasn't that impressed with some aspects of the service level, and I was underwhelmed with selection. The closest experience I've ever had to shopping at Bicycle World was shopping at a specialty running store in Chicago called Feet First. The first thing you (should) learn when beginning running is that you never choose your running shoes based on looks - you should always choose them based on fit and performance. I feel like the guys at Bicycle World are following the same philosophy, because when you go in to buy a bike there, the questions all revolve around performance, and looks are not even mentioned. As a casual rider, looks are a top concern, though not aggravating an existing back injury is slightly higher on the list, hence my purchase. I felt like the guy asking me questions and helping me pick out a bike was doing so very clinically, and my options (2 bikes, total) were few. Luckily, the second bike felt great, and I didn't hate the overall look, though I wasn't over the moon about it, either. I also wanted to make the purchase that day, or else I might have taken time to search elsewhere. Up until the sale, this place would have still gotten 4 stars. It was after the sale that I began to lose patience. They didn't have the color of the bike I wanted in my size at the store, so it had to be ordered. I was told it would be in in a week. A few days into my wait, I realized that the bike I was getting didn't have fenders, and I would like some, so I called up to see about getting fenders to match. The bike is raspberry colored, and the only fenders they had in stock were black. I told the guy on the phone that I didn't want black, I wanted silver. He said 'OK, well, when you come to pick the bike up, ask for me and I'll show you the silver ones we have.' A week went by - no call. I got the call two weeks in (seriously? I could have ordered it off the internet and had it shipped sooner), and went to pick up the bike. I asked for the salesman I had talked to on the phone, and got a blank look. I was told point blank that there were no silver options for the bike in stock, and all they had was black. In retrospect I probably should have had them hold the bike for however long it took to get silver ones in, but instead, it now being two and a half weeks later, I just had them put black fenders on (which look awful, btw). I'll end up getting silver ones on Amazon at some point. I feel like I can't bitch too much, since after all, they did assemble the bike for me and put the new fenders on, too, but I'm disappointed that I spent $300 on a brand new bike that doesn't look awesome. I know Bicycle World is much more concerned with providing performance, but I wish I would have gotten a little more support in trying to end up with a bike that was beautiful, too. read more

Went into the shop today with my family to look for a bike and we left with three new Giant bikes. The salesmen there were friendly, helpful, and knowledgable without being overbearing or forceful about buying. They were easily able to fit all of our wants and needs including a request for a seat swap. Our purchase came with free water bottle cages and bottles as well as 6 months of free tune ups. Their price range could easily fit anyone looking to make a small or big investment in a quality bike. Rick took his time with my friend and I wanting to test out several bikes and he was so patient with our many, many questions. There is a large selection of bikes and the road on the side of the shop provides a safe, fun way to actually try your bike out before purchasing. I highly recommend Bicycle World. I ended up at Bicycle World because I am in New Orleans for a month for work without a vehicle. Actually I'm staying in Elmwood, which I've found is not the most walkable place and the buses are not very frequent. I decided I would walk to downtown New Orleans from Elmwood, and after about an hour I passed a Salvation Army with bikes out front. I bought one that looked to be in the best condition although it was very rusty, the brakes weren't fully operational, the back tire was flat, there were no grips, the handlebars were rotated out of place, and some other issues. Still, I could ride it! So I bought it and walked it a few blocks to Bicycle World. I went in and only asked them to fix the flat. But Oscar took it upon himself to fix the brakes, put on new grips, fix the handlebars, and probably some other stuff, and of course he also fixed the flat. He only charged me for the flat. The bike rides really well now (for what it is-- a rusty old bike). The other employees were very nice also and made sure I was attended to. I will go back here and recommend this place to anyone.
