I too was hopeful that they may be the accounting service that I was looking for. But their response time is disappointing. If you are going to make your potential clients wait and make them remind of you what you should have done or sent as an initial proposal, then either you are overwhelmed with clients that you already have or something worse. Number one thing for me is I don't want to chase my accountant for the work that needs to be done by them. My spouse and I have had a very positive experience filing with Bharmal and Associates the past few years. We do everything remotely, which is a big plus for two millennials with our own demanding jobs. (I believe they do offer face-to-face consultations if that is something you want though.) This past year's experience was the best yet - they dramatically updated their document upload system, and the new portal is extremely clear and easy to use. Both the tax professionals and the office management staff have always been responsive to questions or concerns that we have raised, and we always get return emails within a maximum of one working day. I reached out via the message service on Yelp as a saw a 40 minute response time. After not hearing from them for a few hours, I called and made an appointment for Monday. Explaining that I was in need of an account for my newly formed LLC and that I had some time sensitive documents that needed to be filed. Once the appointment was booked I stopped my search and was confident that I would be in good hands and that I had secured the help that was needed to file the documents. Two days later I received a call and was told they couldn't help me and canceled my appointment. No real explanation was given, only that they wouldn't be able to help file documents or take me on as a client for tax preparation going forward. So, having lost three days, again, time sensitive, I had to start the search again. I would stay away from them, doesn't appear they are interested in your business just interested in wasting your time. In reply to the business owner. Of course you don't see an appointment booked for me, that's because you canceled it. It was for Monday the 21st at 11 AM. We are self-employed professionals. We interviewed three CPAs and chose Bharmal Associates to file our 2019 and 2020 taxes because they responded promptly, seemed pleasant, and were organized with a web-based client portal. Due to COVID-19, all our interactions were by phone and email. They prefer expenses to be presented using a template format. Emails were pleasant and prompt. They reported our charitable donations in line-by-line detail on a form, instead of just keeping the scanned receipts; other CPAs did not do that. They have recommended that we donate quarterly to reduce the tax paperwork. Each year, we had to pay half the fee upfront and half before they filed taxes. Our tax refunds were comparable to previous years. We recommend them to others. read more

We read multiple Yelp reviews before we contacted this firm. However, this was really a bad experience. My wife contacted them Thursday (8/20/20) and was arranged by Katherine for a Google Meet for Friday afternoon (8/21/20). Since this meeting was set for 5 PM, we cancelled other appointment to attend this meeting. Believe or not, even until 5:05 PM, the meeting was not initiated. What a big disappointment! Then my wife called the office and was answered by Katherine again. She told my wife this should be a phone call instead of google meet but she did not explain why she sent an email invitation for a google meet. The fact is no one called or contacted us at 5 PM either! From what they handled the potential customers and how disorganized they were, I am not going to use this company for sure. Shoaib and his team was recommended to me since this year my tax case became more complicated than what I could handle by myself or with the typical pro advice you will normally find in the mainstream tax preparers like H&R Block. Shoaib did not disappoint. His team (specifically Eric L. who was the CPA handling my case) not only found all relevant information pertinent to my case, they were very responsive and always had a very detailed answer to my questions. They have been handling multi-state cases (one case had more than 40 states in one tax year, mine had "only" two), cases with rental income, self-employment cases and more. It made me very confident to see that my "unique" tax situations were something common for them to the point my case that I thought was difficult was a walk in the park for his team. One thing that amazed me was their communication and punctuality. I engaged them a bit late in the process for the 2022 tax year. Exactly when they were the most busy. However, they were upfront in mentioning a timeline on when I will get the first draft of my tax return and they delivered it exactly on the day and time they said they would. I called and spoke to a person named Katherine. She is very friendly, easy to talk to, and yet professional and knowledgeable. She explained that they were offering a free (NO COST) 30 minute phone consultation to discuss your needs. They would propose a course of action and give you an estimate of the costs. She set up a phone meeting for me the very next day. I took the initiative to send her some bullet points on my situation to make the best use of the 30 minute free consultation. (time is money) Ismail Bharmal called me at the precise time of the meeting. He was also very friendly and informative. He had looked over those bullet points I sent, so he was already up to speed about what I needed and proposed a plan to meet my needs. We did spend all 30 minutes discussing his company, the expertise of his staff, and my project. Most of all, you could just tell the pride and personal concern he has for his customers' satisfaction. That is unique and sealed the deal for me. My experience with this firm was so incredibly disappointing that it actually compelled me to create a Yelp account just so I could review them. Details are below, but in summary I strongly recommend you look elsewhere if you're seeking qualified, professional tax prep. I wouldn't wish this firm's apathy and indifference upon my worst enemy. Here's the story. I first contacted Bharmal & Associates in August of 2020. I was in the process of incorporating two holding companies, and I needed a qualified tax preparer to guide me through my first return under my new structure. I contacted the firm and spoke to Ismail and Katherine, and during our conversation I described the business structure in detail, the underlying investment holdings, as well as my employment/personal situation. I was told this tax return would be no problem for Bharmal & Associates, and I was encouraged to get back in touch towards tax time and they'd be able to help me. Overall, a very favorable first impression. I reached out again in late January, and spoke once more to Ismail and Katherine. I gave them a refresher on the business structure and my personal situation, and once again was told no problem. They quoted me $1,125 for a federal return, state return, and two 568 returns for the LLCs. Whatever. Great. I signed an engagement letter, paid, uploaded my support, and we were off to the races. What happened next completely defies all positive feedback mentioned on this site. Upon engagement, I was passed along to Bota, one of their associates, who prepared my tax return. After two weeks, I was notified that my draft tax return was ready. What was provided was a confusing amalgam of incomplete and/or incorrect information, including: · Completely incorrect depiction of the business structure. Not only had I described this structure to them twice over the phone, I also described it in the footnotes to the financial statements, and additionally provided an org chart showing the structure visually. To this day, I don't know how it's possible they got this wrong. · Incorrect expenses listed on the return. I tried tying out to their expenses from my original financial statements I provided to them and couldn't even get close. · Incorrect spelling of the LLC entity names (seriously, how does this even happen)? · Mixup between the LLCs EINs and my own SSN · A North Carolina state income tax return. HUH? I don't live in North Carolina...never have.... To rectify these issues, it took not one but THREE additional drafts of the tax return, which took Bharmal & Associates over three additional weeks to prepare when all was said and done. Each new turn had issues that frankly could have been caught with a minor proofread, which led me to believe that nobody checked the work prior to sending it out to me. Once they finally got these issues fixed, I was offered a call with Shoiab to run through the return together for a final review, which was appreciated. Shoiab is a nice guy, and to his credit, he was apologetic for the situation despite the fact he didn't directly work on my return. I appreciated that. Unfortunately, our "final" review identified another issue that Shoiab caught - the two separate Schedule C's needed to be consolidated into one. Back to the drawing board.... As of today, six weeks have elapsed since I first began working with Bharmal & Associates. I was excited this morning when I was sent my signature packet for the efiling authorizations (we believe the tax returns are finally complete and correct). However, because nothing is ever easy with this company, I noticed in the efiliing authorization that they incorrectly listed me as a member of an LLC which I am not, so I'm not even sure if I'll be filing today as I had hoped. And to think I paid $1,125 for this "expertise"! In summary, please avoid this firm if you are seeking professional accounting and/or tax services. I also work in financial services, and if I ever treated an employer, client, or transactional counterpart with the same level of incompetence, indifference, and apathy that Bharmal & Associates treated me, I'd be fired in three weeks. No joke. This company is not a professional establishment. read more
