Great atmosphere. Friendly service. Lots of liquor to choose from. Great food. We had the jalapeño burger and the crawfish po-boy special. We will be back.

Winner! Winner! and I didn't even have a chicken dinner. What I did have, was the BEST, Jalapeño Burger that I have ever had and I have eaten a lot of them. This little grub pub in a small country town, totally blew me away on my first visit. I can tell you now, I will be a regular at this pub and if this pub were in STL, there would easily be an hour wait for a table. My meal this evening basically consisted of my favorite thing and I can sing praises for them all. I started out with a Manhattan, I needed liquid refreshment to enjoy as I read over the menu. To my surprise, it was up to this city mans standards and I was delighted that they did not use a maraschino cherry for garnish. As I read the menu, one of their appetizers is a favorite of mine, so I ordered the, Brussels Sprouts. The first word on the menu to describe their sprouts is, Incredible! and I agree. They are loaded with crispy bacon, pecans and tossed in a balsamic glaze. As if that is not enough, they are then covered with freshly shaved parmesan cheese. I only ate about two-thirds of mine and took the other third home and made an "incredible" egg scramble the next morning. I love jalapeños so much, I'll add them to anything that I can. So it will be no surprise to know, my favorite burger is, Jalapeño. This one at BG's Grub & Pub is now my all-time favorite. What sets it high and above the others is the creative way it is prepared and presented. Not only do they use my favorite cheese, Pepper Jack, they use it in two different ways. In addition to melting it over the burger, they fry it into a disk and add it as topping. That extra flavor of the cheese and the crunch, along with a fistful of fried jalapeños on top of a perfectly grilled burger, made my taste buds dance with excitement. My taste buds had barely caught their breath from dancing a jalapeño jig, when dessert arrived. Honestly, I was stuffed, but had to see these, Cheesecake Nachos. OMG! I am so glad I overindulge. Decadent is the only word that comes to mind to describe them. How else could you describe crispy tortilla wedges coated with cinnamon sugar and topped with cheesecake cream and caramel drizzle. Next time I am adding sliced pecans for the minimal uncharge. Customer service was attentive and friendly. I was fortunate enough to chat with the owners and admire their enthusiasm even during this pandemic. 2021 is the year I turn a milestone age and as of now, I'm thinking of renting their private dining room for my celebration. When: January 7, 2021 Why: Dinner & Exploring beyond my new hood.

Oh... my... yumminess!! This place is a hidden treasure for the tastebuds! I was told to go for the cheesecake nachos and was not disappointed with anything! From appetizers to dessert, this is the place to take an extra stomach, or you'll leave with a lot of boxes like I did. Lol! All of my pictures are after tasting because the smell alone made our mouths water and we couldn't wait.

Friends have been talking about this restaurant for a while, say it's good food so one night I went there for dinner. I ordered the prime rib sandwich which came with au jus and I ordered a salad to go with it. Salad was good size, sandwich had a good helping of sliced prime rib. It was a really good sandwich. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and I can't wait to return.

    The food was really great!

Can't say enough good things about Billygoat's. When you're here, you're going to be treated like family, served some amazing food, and chill out in a warm, inviting atmosphere. It's a fantastic addition to Bunker Hill and I look forward to coming here time and time again. If you haven't yet checked out Billygoat's, I'd encourage you to make the trip up to Bunker Hill and see what all the talk is about!

Visits in JUL-AUG-OCT 2025…read more We moved into town this summer. Our realtor provided gift certificate as a closing congratulations. After we came the first visit I wanted to take my time, have a few more visits before I wrote. My rating of 3 (okay) in this case think of it as an academic C, a passing grade but certainly room for improvement. Rooster's Pub is okay, the food is okay, the service is okay, it is clean. If you are looking for a bar food meal this is an okay place to choose. You can stop here, disregard the rest and make your choice. I suspect that Rooster's is popular locally (and has some high ratings) is familiarity, and a customer base that hasn't widely traveled, there is nothing wrong with that. I am comfortable saying that this place is also likely a good bar, for those interested in that environment. It is not quite for me (us) as a restaurant. We have only been during the lunch hours. I have never owned a bar or restaurant. I worked in them at various levels earlier in life. I acknowledge how tough it is to be a bar that also has standout food. In my experience that is rather rare. I know that when a bar does get that balance right, they have a limited menu. They make a few things and make them well. A full menu is always going to have to carry some amount of frozen "Sysco" things dropped into hot oil. Our meals, I have had two okay tenderloins and one burger, my wife two fish (slightly overdone) meals, and one burger. My wish is for continued success for Rooster's, it is a fine place for others. As currently functioning it is not a place for me. This is also okay if the oil is always fresh, and the cook is attentive and pulls things soon enough to guard color/texture and the cooking finishes during delivery to table. On another note it seems that in our 3 visits, things are cooked hard and fast but then sit in the window, cooling until delivered lukewarm and past that "golden moment". A few lines about the fries. People do like them, I however do not prefer house cut fries. I think the basic restaurant frozen fry, well executed, is an easy win. Our's have been dark and soggy on arrival. I did get the tots on the middle visit (better), had forgotten the fry defeciency and got them this last time. My wife, a Midwestern lover of all things potato, left nearly half of her order. Overall plating has been a bit haphazard, not expecting a cooking show, but I do appreciate something that arrives looking intentional. There just doesn't seem to be a level of care applied to the meals that have come to our table (a note on that at the end). We have only had the same two front of house workers. They are polite (maybe stiffly and overly so), they get the order right and they accomplish the mission. However is feels a bit like a "transaction", which I understand it is, the customers aren't your friend. I don't think it's just us, there doesn't seem to be any warmth with anyone that comes in (even what I presume are regulars). If there is a scale with annoyed that I exist on one end, and a warm hug on the other, the service here is much closer to the left hashmark. A final note about my meals here. If the gaps in execution are some message that I am not worthy of a best effort, or simply not welcome- message received.

I met my now exgirlfriend there and won her over with a match of thumb wrestling. (she always won) The house Bday shot is the 3 wise men. I don't recall which nights but through the week they have $1PBR drafts, $5 PBR pitchers, and $2PBR bottles. Now don't start thinking I'm some South City Hipster. They serve this beer because it's cheap not trendy. The place is smaller than most would be used too. In the front it's just a bar with like 3-4 tables you can sit 4 people at each. With a bar you can fit maybe 15-20 people. The line for the bathroom works like clock work! The back room where the bands play is very large, while the stage is small, Singers usually on the floor in more than 3 piece band. They have a great Reggae night, as well as some great local bands that play as well. Muddy pub books a wide array of musical acts so there isn't really a set genre. The real action to me even now that I'm a non smoker, is out front of the muddy pub, nothing beats standing around the front door, talking to random people, and watching the people bar hop around the block of 3rd street Alton that is like a mini St. Louis Landing. One of my favorite all time bars for sure!

This is a bar I've been dragged to way too many times and for reasons I still don't understand. If…read moreit's up to me, I won't be back again. It has a basic problem that there's no good place to sit anywhere if you have a group of friends with you. Assuming there are seats open at the bar at primetime, when you most want to be out drinking (and that's a big assumption because there probably won't be seats open), your group is spread several people wide and not everyone can hear everyone over the music and other people. You want to be in that room because it's where the beer is, and where most of the people are, but it's hard to hang out in there because the space is too narrow and awkward. Then of course because you're having to stand behind your friend who's sitting at the bar, you're constantly moving out of the way of someone who's in line for the bathroom. The upstairs is never open (that I've seen), so forget about that. Then, on the ground level past the room with the bar and bar stools, you've got the big open room with ample tables and seating where they put bands. Whenever a band is there, the band usually sucks, so it's no fun to sit there then. Whenever no bands are there, the room is too dark and empty to hang out in and not feel like a weirdo. Or they turn on the light and then it's too bright. You're never in the sweet spot when you're in that room, with the right amount of lighting and non-shitty music. Ironically, the best place to hang out at Big Muddy is outside the back door of the bar. Sometimes you can get away with taking a drink out there with you, and it can be fun to stand there and look at what's left of downtown Alton's industry. But I find it funny and telling that the best place to hang out is not actually part of the business. It's just a place where people stand when they go to Big Muddy because the bar itself isn't much to speak of, and yet all your friends want to go there anyway, so you can't just leave without having a drink.
