I have been a Pepco customer my entire life; even when I lived in a large single family home my bill was considerably less with Pepco than it is living in an apartment with BGE. I live alone and do not use much electricity but it seems like my bill is going up. It is literally 4 times more than I would pay monthly under Pepco. 30 gallons of gasoline later, almost 30 hours of generator use, and BGE says tomorrow night at 11pm the power will be restored. They're full of sh**. I talked with BGE truck guys early this morning, 3 trucks in total, and they fed me some B.S. telling me they were going to get workers from other states to come and help and were calling everyone in from BGE to help. I haven't seen any trucks all day long with license plates from other state, and I haven't seen any extra BGE trucks. Bottom line....BGE corporate pucks are following status quo, when status quo is completely out of line! A guy at the gas station, not 20 minutes ago, who was also filling his gasoline tanks for his generator, told me BGE told him they would restore his power by 11pm Friday night! I just moved in to a new home and have only been there for two days, when I came home from work yesterday my power was shut off and they put a lock on my BGE box out back. Being reasonable and understanding, I called into BGE to try and make a payment or set up an account of some sort. I was greeted by a RUDE woman named Nikki who pretty much told me that I am out of luck and there is nothing she can do to help me. Now get this, the reason it was shut off is because the previous tenants have an overdue bill.... Soooo, what does this have to do with me? Apparently they have to send out an investigator to make sure that I am not the previous tenant trying to avoid an overdue bill. To top that off, it takes them up to a WEEK to do so. When I got off of the phone, I called my landlord and asked her if there is anything that I can do to get my power turned back on. She called BGE and spoke with a supervisor. She explained to me that they had no right to cut off my power without notifying her (she has a landlord/owner account with them). They told her that there is nothing that they can do to help her. I find it interesting that it took one hour for them to come shut off my power, yet it's going to take them a week to come turn it back on. My husband and I decided we are going to go through a different carrier for electric. Weeks ago they started putting in our new gas line and meter. We were told the section of ivy (which has been there since our home was built a CENTURY ago) would not be damaged. They had signs when to move vehicles. I moved my car the day before. They banged on our door at 6:30am and scared my disabled daughter who has a hospital bed in the living room where they knocked. They asked if another car was ours. It wasn't. The end of the day they said I could put my car back in its spot. Next morning, they're banging on my door again at 7am telling me to move it! They dug up a big sidewalk square and put tar stuff on it, said they'd tamp it down. I had to walk through it (hill on either side of sidewalk I can't walk on) and got tar all over my shoes. Cement stuff beside my car where I get in, couldn't walk my dog on the sidewalk. Emailed several times, was only told they have us move cars to avoid damage. More emails to ask about the other issues and they ignored them. Phone calls. Told someone would call me. Never did. Called again, someone put in an urgent email and said I'd hear back. Never did! Called and left messages and nothing! The ivy is dead there, they even drove a backho into it! Guy necpxt door complained of a flower being missing and they gave him a $50 home depot card! He rents! He only just planted that! We own our house and had to deal with all this and are ivy was killed that's been there when my grandfather build the house 100 years ago and I was told it wouldn't be harmed. Now you all can't even get back to me or reimburse me for the destruction of something important to my family?! I had to get a rug to put on the sidewalk just to walk my dog over it. Shoes ruined, can't walk on my own sidewalk, rudely woke up 2 days for no reason, left a mess everywhere, but you pay a renter $50 for a missing plant and ignore all contact and complaints from a home owner with actual damage?! Unethical billing practices. Double paid a month in error, then all of a sudden they do a review of acct and begin to bill me more going forward. Claim my gas usage is 220% more than last year this time one month and then 210% more the next month than last year same time, etc. Yet I've not used more nor was I home to use more being I was working during the times they claim this increase occurred. I live in an apartment building and feel sure there is something hokey going on being they're upgrading some recently vacated units and have been. Plus the place is dated and landlord doesn't keep the place up. The water heater probably needs replaced as well as the windows as they're the original windows and 30 yrs old. But for BGE did offer to upgraded my gas service if I paid their extortion of thousands$$$! The fridge gets warm no ac due to it power bu electric no fan so trying to even get comfortable at time is not manageable last December it was extremely cold because again no power so no heat we can't even get an eta on repair this service is horrible and a straight monopoly since there is no other service provider to choose from here in Baltimore so after being without power a few weeks back and a few weeks before than here we are again and will more than likely be more than 24 hours as is the pattern with them but they will charge and keep increasing the cost for the subpar service they deliver read more

Their practices are shady (i.e. they threatened to turn off our gas even though our account was paid in full unless we allowed they into the property to make changes THAT OUR LEASE SAID OUR LANDLORD HAD TO CONSENT TO -and they failed to call even though I provided the contact information six times. Worst experience ever. The previous tenant moved out, and we put s transfer of service request in with bge. The power was shut off by request of the previous tenant with a balance on it. According to BGE that "flags" the home address. So here we are on a Friday at 3pm with no power. Calling BGE is a joke. They transfer you to 7 different "supervisors" who can only tell you the department that handles that is closed until Monday, and then it's a 3 business day turn around to get the power back on. So we have to wait 5-6 days to get power, all while their calling for snow tomorrow and I have 2 small children in the house. Oh and did I forget to mention one of my children has a pulmonary health issue and needs hourly nebulizers?? The BGE's representatives response? Go get a hotel. This is the most impersonal, rude, corrupt company I have EVER done business with. If there was another power company I would have already activated their services. Then they charged me a $25 start service for for doing NOTHING! I then had to get service for my business, same issue but now they charged me a $40 "start service fee" why, i don't know? So I called for customer service so they could explain it to me, Mrs. Priam or Pam whatever her name is couldn't explain it. I tried to get it waived, they wasted over an hour of my time. If I could get gas and electric from another company, I would switch in a heartbeat. You have a monopoly over the Baltimore region. You tell your clients they "have to" get a gas smart reader installed or you will charge every month. You make us make a 4 hour appointment window and can't even install it properly and then overcharge for gas (that isn't reading correctly) and expect me to pay. I then make another 4 hour appointment window, lose overtime work and don't even bother calling or showing up. I was on the budget billing plan and ended up getting a bunch of back charges at my final bill and was told there was nothing I could do since me and my roommate over used our alloted amount for each month despite the fact that we both work multiple jobs and there are only two of us. And yet somehow we use too much energy. When I called about a high bill a couple months ago, I was told the same thing so me and my roommate worked really hard to use less energy and were told our meter would be read. Clearly it never was. BGE was not only unhelpful but they overccharge their customers becuase they know they're pretty much much the only company in Baltimore so they do whatever they want. How can my service be canceled by anyone but me when I'm the only account holder and why wouldn't I receive any notifications especially If a mistake like this is possible. Well we lose power ALL. THE. TIME. BGE is just the worst. The worst thing the ever did to us, though, was after restoring power at around 4am - I think the power had been out about 20 hours at that point - they pushed power down our neutral line and destroyed everything that was powered. Including brand new HVAC systems. You should have seen how bright the lightbulbs were before they all burst over our heads. And our electric panel on fire was also fun to discover in our mudroom. They took no responsibility whatsoever and, in fact, as I was calling the fire department due to the panel being on fire, my husband was running down the street trying to stop them as they were all leaving. About two weeks ago, we had trouble with our A/C. Our smart thermostat was black so we had no idea what to do. My husband checked all the breakers but that wasn't the issue. I read online to reboot the router but that didn't work. After trying a few things we read, I called BGE. The agent's first question was about Home (I didn't know that was the name of their program)...did we have Home? I told her that I didn't but that my a/c wasn't working and that the outside temp was in the 90's...she said we would need to wait 3 days for service since we were part of "Home". I explained that my husband who is 70 had some health concerns but she said that she couldn't override the system. Earlier appointments are for Home customers (Don't we all pay the same rates of our electricity?)....I asked to speak with a supervisor but she didn't have the capability of transferring me and I was told someone would call back. A supervisor called back and started the same conversation,,,implying that I should be a Home customer....and I may want to consider signing up...She stated that she couldn't change the appointment schedule inspire of our age and health issue. We would have to wait...We finally called our thermostat company who were so helpful and was able to determine that there was some water from the humidifier in the furnace pan which shut the a/c off...after questions and some pics, the problem was solved....BGE just wanted to sell a Home plan and send someone in....terrible customer service. I can't believe that BGE supplier washes its hand of any issues with customers....what a terrible thing...just created a system where people are forced to pay more to get service. From incorrect bills...to being put on hold for hours at a time...to rude customer service...to shady field employees...to service technicians who never showed up for appointments...to regular bill increases of over 20% per rate increase...BGE had it all, with some left over to spare. Their website is confusing and difficult to navigate, their over the phone customer service is practically non existent, and the way they bill is just horrifying. Who sends you a bill the day before it is due? That's why I switched over to E-bills through my bank. Still, BGE manages to screw that up by combining the amounts of past bills with this one and trying to double bill you, all the while NEVER showing on the Bill itself where the extra cost came from.
