We had been looking forward to trying this place. As a foodie and someone who loves to cook, I love the 'clean' approach to food. When we got there, the only other diners were leaving. It was strange to be in an empty dining room. We were promptly seated. It was very disappointing to find out the item on the menu I was looking forward to was no longer available. When there are not many main courses on the menu and two are 'no longer on the menu' (that's what we were told) it's pretty shocking. The other item not available was my second choice to boot. (Quail and rack of lamb were the two). So, I opted for my third choice, the wild boar osso bucco with chipotle lime sweet potatoes and also a small mixed greens. My daughter got the lobster flatbread. I also got a glass of Sangiovese. We were asked if we wanted everything to come out at the same time and said yes. Our beverages came out promptly and we waited by ourselves until our food was ready. It was kind of eerie being the only diners. The room was very simple which was fine, though the chairs were not very comfortable. Everything came to the table t the same time. The greens were fresh and beautiful. I dressed them with simple oil and cider vinegar and a little salt and pepper. My daughter's lobster flatbread was very well seasoned and good but not exceptional. The lobster itself was perfectly cooked. My osso bucco was very disappointing however. It came to the table lukewarm. The boar was cooked beautifully, but the sauce was bland. The lack of seasoning was shocking. Thank goodness for the peppery raisin salsa to add some flavor. The olive tapenade that also came with it was tasty. The chipotle lime sweet potatoes were very disappointing as well. They were overcooked and mushy. The seasoning was much more subtle than I expected. I was expecting a flavor punch and it was not there. Maybe I was just expecting too much. In my opinion the portion of potatoes was extremely large. I can't have that many but it still seemed like the potatoes dominated space on the plate. The wine list was small but there were good options. The sangiovese was very good and the pricing was very reasonable. The service was excellent. It was nice that the chef came out to talk with us, but I was uncomfortable saying anything other than everything was ok. Ii told her honestly that I can't have that much carb, and she did offer a different side. But it's my dietary limit that restricts me so that's completely unnecessary. Overall it was very underwhelming, especially after the exceptional meals we had earlier during the weekend. Somewhat surprising gem outside Keowee Key and Seneca, SC. Although the hours are unusual, you're well advised to check Beyond the Bull. Make sure you do reservations. Also, note there are call-ahead specials available (lobster, and antelope). The ingredients are top notch, and the chef-owner (Angela) spoke to everyone in the restaurant the night we went. There's an obvious dedication to those ingredients, focusing on natural, non-additive. The menu is unlike everything around the area. Ambience is lacking, but with the food quality - who cares?! Chef Angela actually spoke to this, claiming the focus should be on the food, not decor. We relied on Yelp reviews to choose a dinner spot near Lake Keowee in Oconee County and we were not led astray!. Seriously, I cannot remember when I've been so blown away by a menu! It was only topped by each and every dish that we tasted. To start, GET THE BREAD! It's $4.50 for about five slices of 12-grain, olive oil, sea salt, and garlic drizzled bread that will make your eyes roll back in your head. We started with a glass of wine and a craft beer from an impressive list. The bread made us woozy with gastro delight, but reading the story of the restaurant and Chef Angela Bell made us realize that CLEAN EATING can be over-the-top delicious. Our party had the duck cakes (like crab cakes, but duck), blueberry-ginger chicken salad, wild boar sausage, lamb shank, and tuna Niçoise salad, sides of crunchy Brussels sprouts, lime cilantro sweet potatoes, warm potato salad, plus homemade sauces and salsas made for an incredible meal. Finishing it off was a choice of rosemary or dark chocolate with espresso salt pots de creme, and we rolled out of there five VERY satisfied diners! Before we left, though, we made reservations for tomorrow night to try the bison short ribs! This cute converted house restaurant is off the beaten path, but it is so worth finding it. Chef Angela came out and chatted and signed the cookbooks she authored that we bought on the way out. If you are in CLEMSON, SENECA or anywhere near, make a reservation and GO! Open for dinner only on Thursdays through Sundays. UPDATE: We came back again to get the bison short ribs and OMG they are amazing! We also tried the coleslaw which is perfectly seasoned with no mayonnaise. The short ribs fell off the bone with the most beautiful seasoning and tender, melt-in-your-mouth texture. This time we also bought a loaf of the amazing bread to take home. At $7.50 a loaf frozen, we can pretend to be back in Beyond the Bull one more time. We happened upon this little gem by my trusty Yelp app. I never would've seen this place on our regular routes. They are a comfortable hidden place with an upscale menu for experienced palates. They have an assortment of items from lobster rolls to bison short ribs. We opted for the lobster roll and the sliced chicken both in naan bread as well a duck cake from the appetizer menu. Bucky and I had an amazing dinner! We always seek out restaurants that only serve fresh ingredients which is often hard to find in rural areas. They have so many good options it was hard to choose. We finally decided on the lobster salad and the bison short ribs. Two great choices. The lobster made me think I was visiting New England. I can't say enough good things about the short ribs. Chef Angela's seasoning makes them so flavorful that you want to lick the bowl to make sure you get every drop of the gravy. They also have one of my favorite wines for only $31 a bottle - crazy cheap for it. We will be going back as often as we can. read more

While social distancing is still being maintained by this restaurant and the server was masked, the food is still excellent. It was a perfect day to sit on the deck and enjoy a Mother's Day meal. The special was lobster fettuccine and it was wonderful. The tomato and goat cheese salad was very good, as was the chocolate dessert. Hubby had the duck cakes, the tomato corn and jalapeño salsa, and warm potato salad. He was very happy with all. I recommended the Louisiana white bbq sauce for the duck and he was pleased with it. Chef Angela prepares it after you order so be prepared to enjoy a drink while you wait on the meal. It came and was a nice large lobster which was hot and very tasty. These guys would not take a reservation for 8 because we needed to make it 24 hours in advance. After we said, set us up on 2 four tops, they declined. We have dined here many times over the past year, often bringing family or friends for what is a truly unique menu prepared with skill and imagination. Don't let the informal atmosphere or rural location discourage you from dining here. In Greenville or Asheville, Beyond the Bull would be rated among the top restaurants and would cost you a LOT more. Chef Angela is the only person in the kitchen, and prepares each and every dish served. She is not surrounded by a crowd of chefs, platers and kitchen helpers. We have tried 3 or 4 items on their menu and have thoroughly enjoyed them all. The last was an over stuffed lobster roll. Out of this world.

Very disappointed!!!!! We went to dinner while on vacation. All the other reviews looked good so we decided to try it. The appetizer portions were a bit small for the price but had good taste. My husband got the rabbit , almost no meat on it at all , although the flavor was wonderful. The Brussel sprouts were to be served at room temperature, which is fine, but they were so under cooked ( not aldente to say the least) we couldn't eat any of the larger ones because they were so hard. My daughter and I got the white fish stuffed with lobster, the white fish did not taste fresh at all. It actually left a bad taste in our mouths, the lobster stuffing was just OK nothing special. We both also got the green olive salad with roasted peppers that was delicious, I actually wish I just ordered that for dinner. My son got the bison short ribs, they were wonderful. I don't completely understand the reasoning with a choice of sauces and then a choice of salsa, they don't really go together at all, the sauces aren't what you would normally think a sauce on fish would be . So 4 ppl had 3 appetizers-4 meals, two glasses of wine and 2 beers for almost $190. Absolutely not worth it, we won't be going back The service was wonderful, very attentive and friendly. read more

What a nice surprise to find an up and coming "smart food" restaurant near Lake Keowee. Chef Angela Bell has closed the Central, SC location, and their loss is Seneca's gain. We were seated on the rear deck and started with complementary spicy house made potato chips along with a glass of the house sangria that was a nice value for a generous glass. We also enjoyed a green salad with a piquant house Green goddess dressing. For entrees we tried quinoa based shrimp and scallop cakes with a tasty side of brussels sprouts and blueberry chicken with warm potato salad. We're looking forward to sampling more of the interesting and eclectic menu further on our next visit, and we hope to try the family menu with a group of friends soon. read more

Last Night my wife and I stopped in to try sharing a meal at beyond the bull. This is no ordinary restaurant the food is freshly prepared with healthy ingredients. Angela has a culinary background and has created a menu with unique hard to find ingredients. We shared the mussels and the buffalo short ribs with Brussels sprouts sweet potatoes .with some excellent wine. Everything was wonderful. I can't wait to try the Lobster role. We ate dinner at Beyond the Bull to celebrate our anniversary. The menu is unique and offers a variety of options. We had the quail appetizer then duck cakes and lamb shank as entrees. All were excellent. The service was good and the pace leisurely (not too fast, not too slow). We had chocolate pot de creme for dessert which was delicious. My husband and I ate here for the first time tonight and it definitely will be the first of many!! I ordered the venison osso bucco and my husband got the lamb shank. The meat was literally falling off the bone, the potato salad was delicious, and dessert was fabulous. Our wait staff was very friendly and the chef even came out to ask our opinions on the food.
