I joined Lindsay G for a group barre class on Friday for her blogging group "Find Where You Fit," it was so much fun. I got out of my comfort zone maybe most of the time during the whole 60 minutes of barre. Lindsay G thank you so much for putting this event together. Both you and Allison rocked this class. Allison was our instructor and really good one. For a person with very little barre experience she made me feel super comfortable learning it with the small movements to the weights and barre itself. Everything Allison did she talked you through in the class. You can tell Allison had a lot of experience in this and when I talked to her after the class I learned she used to teach barre in Chicago and moved her later to teach at Otterbein and Bexley Yoga. She made the class so much fun too, like she let us pick out out music which was 90's themed and everything just feel into place from there. Lindsay also got us these cute pair of barre socks too. We all modeled them at the end with our barre poses. I would totally come back here again and not just take barre but also try the yoga classes to help with my anxiety and stress. I know a lot of my friends from Bexley come here and rave about other instructors too, so I'll be back soon! Thanks again Lindsay and Allison for a great time! read more

During my recent trip to Columbus I was excited to try out a yoga studio in a new neighborhood. And staying at Bexley B+B just a few steps away, Bexley Yoga seemed like a solid location for an early morning class. The Yay: -Easy online registration -Low key, casual studio with water station and restroom off to the side -Nice playlist during my flow class -Clear instruction -Free mat rental -Super convenient to where I was staying in Bexley The Meh: -$18 for a drop in class reads on the spendy side to me, even with the free mat usage -I take a practice a fair amount of hot (flow) yoga, and this flow class seemed super fast. As in I didn't have very much time at all to stretch or settle into any pose in particular. It felt rushed throughout, with the exception of shavasana. I'd definitely try Bexley Yoga again next time I'm in the neighborhood to hopefully get a better picture of their practices. read more

I am so pumped to have Bexley Yoga join the growing list of fantastic businesses in my community! Bexley has never had a yoga studio, and these pioneers have hit the mark! I attended the first class on the first day of business (which, by the way, is free the whole first week) and loved everything about it and everything they are about. My friend (a Bexley resident and mom) co-owns the space, so I am not without a bias, but still, I am a knowledgable and critical consumer of all things health and fitness. The space itself if gorge! They've installed beautiful hickory hardwood floors opposite a bright punched tin ceiling. A wall of mirrors allows some instructors to use that as the room's front for feedback, or the class may face a row of pretty light blue curtains which separate the studio from the comfortable checkin area. The curtains do not provide much noise cancellation between studio and lobby, but it is a clever solution to let in the natural light from the transoms and windows in the front. Beyond the studio and its fresh well-selected stack of equipment, is an area with complementary water and hot tea, a spacious and stylish restroom, and a small room to be used for private sessions or body work. That's not all cool enough? Well...they also have a rotating art gallery, featuring each artist for 2 months at a time. Your eyes will never get bored and maybe you'll fall in love with a piece of art you just have to take home! Bexley Yoga promises to provide "yoga your way," which to me means classes that include anyone who comes to practice. As an intermediate/advanced student, I felt very at home in Vinyasa 1-2 and loved exploring new poses and being inspired by Natalie's imagery, music, and poetry. Also, it's 2 days later and I am still a bit sore. So yay! As a geriatric physical therapist, I love seeing a class for participants to take from a seated position; there are so many benefits for individuals with mobility challenges to practice yoga! There's also a few classes for beginners (I'm looking at you, husband), a variety of styles, barre, and pilates. If you've had enough, schedule yourself a massage! I am beyond excited for my neighborhood to welcome in this special place. read more

I attended a barre class last weekend at the brand-new Bexley Yoga. I had been visiting from out of town, and my boyfriend dropped me off at the studio so I could take a class while he did his own thing for the morning. I normally don't get to hit the barre when I'm traveling, so this was a very exciting bonus to my Columbus visit! On top of the thrill I get in general from the anticipation of a tush-kicking workout, I learned that the studio had just opened and their classes were all free for the first week (could the situation get any better?!) But wait, I almost didn't get to shake it out... The owner and instructor were both incredibly sweet to me. When I walked in, I was asked whether I'd registered for the class ahead of time. I had not... and was told the class was at capacity. I felt the panic rising, and calmly explained that I did not live in Columbus and had just been dropped off with nothing to do for the next few hours. Before I even finished (admittedly, the next sentence I was preparing to speak was a begging-type proposition), they offered to fit me in. I was relieved and am writing this review in part because I am appreciative of them and want to see the studio succeed. The instant kindness and welcoming atmosphere were clearly genuine, as they had zero reason beyond empathizing with my poor barre-hungry self to let me join (especially an out-of-towner who they knew wouldn't be purchasing a membership). I've been doing barre for about two years now, and have taken classes in various cities, both chain-style (Barre Code, Pure Barre) and independent studios. So I have a wide array of experience to compare this to. I also practice yoga, but cannot speak to the yoga offered at Bexley Yoga yet (believe me, though, I will be back to try it and will report accordingly!) The class was made up of the full range of experience levels, from first-timers to those who had been practicing for some time. The instructor, Allison, did a wonderful job of providing cues and modifications to fit every ability level, and was attentive to everyone's form throughout the class. My beef with certain barre classes is usually due to lack of attention to form, and she definitely passed the test. I really liked how she mixed up the moves, rather than doing a chunk of toning moves for one part of the body at a time, because it kept the pace lively. I do wish there had been more focus on abdominal work, or at least incorporation of more moves that were core-focused (in most barre classes I've taken, there are like 5232 planks throughout the hour). That being said, I still got a fantastic full-body workout! The arm section was particularly killer. Two days later, shoulders still oh-so-sore, and I love it! I also noticed there was no discussion of the breath or linking breath to movement, which I think would have been helpful for first-timers, but like I mentioned, I've seen it taught with various methodologies, and the classes I enjoy most are more yoga-inspired, so maybe that's just a personal preference. I do feel that cues related to breathing are helpful in barre though, so might as well offer that feedback. Overall, the space is beautiful and peaceful, the community is welcoming, and the class was excellent! I plan to visit Bexley Yoga again next time I'm in town and look forward to watching them thrive in what apparently was a much-needed niche in the fitness market in this part of town! I am so pleased to recommend Bexley Yoga-owners & instructors- with the highest praise . I am a senior citizen and new to Yoga. Nikki, an owner, listened to my needs and made expert suggestions re: my yoga practice. I began with Yoga for beginners.The instructor was very skillful in guiding me in the modifications of poses with props which enhanced my practice. I am now in Vinyasa flow and continue to be extremely satisfied with the skill , encouragement, and professionalism of the instructor for this class. Highly recommend this studio, especially as it has a community-oriented, laid-back, caring vibe. It's a welcoming, clean, warm and nurturing space. The owners are responsive, helpful, and run the studio wonderfully. They offer many different levels and types of yoga, including massage services. I take restorative classes here and appreciate that they offer them on two different days. I also really appreciate that they offer classes for people with restricted/limited flexibility. My impression is that this business genuinely cares about providing a range of yoga classes and experiences to help, heal and energize as many people as possible. The teacher for the restorative class I attend is gifted and the session has become the high point of my week-- I wouldn't miss it. So happy that this business is here in Bexley! read more

It has been truly thrilling to develop my yoga practice at Bexley yoga! Although I have always exercised on a regular basis, I did not have much experience with yoga until Bexley Yoga opened in early December. From the first week, I was hooked! The instructors are top notch and have been so encouraging as I learn new poses and various nuances of the practice. I really appreciated the Tuesday evening "Very Basics" yoga class in the first few weeks that I attended classes (it is exactly what it sounds like--the basic poses), and I quickly began averaging two classes per week. I have taken a variety of classes from several different instructors at Bexley Yoga, (the Very Basic, Vinyasa Flow level 1-2, Core, and Restorative) and I can truly say that I have enjoyed them all. Each instructor brings her own personal style along with expertise in yoga, so I've had the chance to continue to learn new things along my journey. I feel so much stronger than when I started! I have been very impressed with the yoga studio--it is a wonderful place to practice yoga. The owners, Nikki and Amy, as well as all the instructors, are so welcoming and encouraging. It's obvious that all of them love what they are doing and want to bring out the best in each student. The space itself is warm and inviting (I've told several people that going to yoga at Bexley Yoga feels like going to a spa!). The location at Drexel and Main is convenient, and there is ample parking either on the street close by or in the lot behind the studio. Thank you, Bexley, Yoga, for introducing me to the wonderful world of yoga. I couldn't be more grateful, and I look forwarding to continuing this journey with you. What a jewel you are! read more

My first experience with yoga was a pleasant one. The studio is very welcoming, clean and beautifully put together. The instructor for this beginners class was super! I didn't feel out of place at all. She walked around the room assisting some of us with form and comfort. I wish I could take this class every day. I will also review my 2nd class a couple of days later. No one had previously mentioned not to eat before class so you already know what happened. Shelly was very attentive, caring and gentle with her help. I wasn't able to finish the class but she kept me comfortable in a back lounge area and checked on me several times. The experience didn't disuade me from continuing my journey with yoga. I would recommend Bexley Yoga to anyone. read more

This is a wonderful new yoga studio. I love the intimate atmosphere - it feels like a spa. And the owners and teachers are all very friendly and approachable. I have attended the regular Vinyasa Flow class on Saturday mornings, and Tori (the teacher) is excellent. She creates a class that lets you meet yoga at whatever level is comfortable for you, and she offers multiple alternative poses. I have also attended the Yin class with Julia which was AMAZING (yoga by candlelight!), and the child/parent class with Lauren (which my daughter and I loved). I look forward to returning each week and trying new classes. read more

I'm a man in my 50's who has never done yoga before in my life. I had been thinking about trying and was just starting to look around when Bexley a Yoga opened. Perhaps it was a sign. I stopped in to check it out and talked with Amy, one of the owners. She couldn't have been nicer or more encouraging and welcoming. My lack of experience and lack of a well defined shape were no problem. She called in a day or two to recommend a class and a plan for me. She suggested I try the first class and see what I thought and then decide if I wanted to continue. So I did and I've got three classes completed and it's been great. My teacher, Shelly, is wonderful, very patient and encouraging. I didn't know anything about yoga so I appreciate the full experience from centering, breathing, listening, poses everything. It's just what I needed. I bought a ten class pass, very reasonable and look forward to what I might try when I've completed all these classes. I know if I took class somewhere further away, my success rate would shrink as the distance grew so it's perfect to have them located so close, right in the neighborhood. Nikki, the other owner, has been there when I come for class and she is as nice as Amy. I don't know anything about more advanced classes but if they are in line with my beginning baby class, then they must be great too. read more
