As someone who has spent over 8k in the last 5 years at Yoga On High I am heartbroken to say I can no longer support this space due to its new ownership. When learning who the new owner was I followed them on social media in hopes to connect. I was disappointed to quickly see their views/ethics/ and approach in opposition to YOHI's previous leadership. Posts that are abelist in opposition to being trauma informed. Post that spread right wing conspiracies about the Covid vaccine. Posts that condemn the black lives matter movement. I remember marching in the streets with the former owners asking for accountability of our police force for minority brothers and sisters in this city. It makes me very sad to say I can no longer give financially to this studio when it's owners ethic and my own are this far out alignment. I know many of the teachers are the same from before. This is no reflection on them and I wish them the best. I simply cannot support the space any longer read more

Have you been to Yoga on High yet? This is for the unbalance beginners to the experts balancing on one toe! I have taken two classes here and am in love with the staff! So kind and well spoken! The two classes I took, toll and release, and idk the other one, were perfect for my starter status. But I would Love to take their Aerial class when I work up the courage. Convenient location in the short north off Starr and easy parking in the large lot. Yoga on high has so many hours and classes you are able to get in on the weekends and evening for those of us who have the 9-5ers! I also am a big fan of the murals in the entry way off the parking lot(see photo attached) I was able to get a coupon for my first class so that would be something I would suggest you look into before commuting to any packages ( but I bet you will buy a package anyway!) read more

Yoga on High is a sanctuary to me. For a few years I walked by the studio, interested but afraid to walk in the doors. One day I took the leap and it has literally changed my life. The studio is deeply immersed in the traditional and spiritual lineage. The classes integrate mind, body and soul. I have taken a variety of classes, from the Dynamic Hatha Beginner with Marcia Miller to Sekoia, Urban Zen, iRest and Hot Flow. I tend to lean toward the practices that leave me feeling at ease... Yes I can get an amazing sweat in Hot Flow, but I feel ease in my body and heart after an Urban Zen class or Sekoia. I have also taken several workshops ranging from Pranayama to Reiki. I feel the studio keeps bringing relevant and interesting people. The main studio on High Street has three rooms for practice and the Teacher Training Institute down the street is simply amazing. Another sanctuary. I have been to several studios all over Columbus before coming to Yoga on High. After walking through the doors, I sensed a different and calming energy. The front desk staff is friendly and helpful. I honestly have not had a class with a teacher I don't like.. They all bring a piece of knowledge from either anatomy or spiritually that is what I needed to hear that day. The other students are warm and welcoming. I feel everyone wants to help you.. Whether that means diving deeper into your practice or chilling out for the day. It is a judgement free zone... Yes, Yoga on High is my tribe. A community I gravitate to... And funny thing is, I was a total skeptic that this "yoga thing" would transform me. But oh, it has in so many wonderful ways... Come join me on the mat... This is a special place. read more

My friend brought me along for a 90 min yoga sess in December. I loved how welcoming, inclusive and true to the practice it was! The person who checked me in set me up in the room and introduced me to the instructor. I've never had that type of attention at a large studio before, well done! A one-class pass was pricey (yikes) but definitely appreciated the #goodvibes and community/inclusiveness. Also, they have a parking lot. read more

All of my yoga pet peeves rolled into one. Expensive, no locker room, hot yoga that is not actually hot, hair all over the floor, and the only instrumental music played during class was the Charlie Brown Christmas song. The room was way too crowded. Proof: One flexible neighbor bumped my cooch with her fists in Prasarita Padottanasana. The other neighbor touched my boob in Camatkarasana. The room was warm. I never even broke a sweat but my neighbor had a puddle going, which the instructor kicked up onto my neck while walking by. Gross. The instructor broke the mood at least a dozen times: having a good laugh about her jumbled instructions and commenting on her music playlist. I know this is Middle America but seriously, verbal pop music from 2006? Several songs played more than once, and the instructor skipped mid-song a number of times. Over curated and still all wrong. I know this place is well reviewed, but if you are passing through from out of state do yourself a favor: Stay in and do some Youtube Yoga. read more

Yoga has become more of a workout for me - it's a hobby, a necessity, and something that really helps me strike that balance (so to speak) in my work-life balance. I tried Yoga on High for the first time in January (why did I wait so long?!) and I can say with confidence that I have found what others might call their home or base studio. A few things to note about Yoga on High (or YoHi, as frequent patrons say): - There are TONS of drop-in classes offered morning, afternoon, and evening. They constantly change and update the schedule depending on demand and patron interest. YoHi offers everything from Ashtanga to Hatha to hot vinyasa - plus Urban Zen reiki classes and all sorts of other things. - They have a really great new student unlimited special for just $39 through Yelp. I went to 8 classes on mine and it was definitely a worthwhile purchase. - Leave your shoes, coats, and bags in the lobby. There's plenty of space and there's always someone at the front desk. - Free parking in the Short North! How can you go wrong? I totally disagree with the Yelper who said that this studio is perfect for the beginner yogi. If you're looking for a class that is both challenging but suited for someone at the beginner OR intermediate level, I would try Correna's Ashtanga Beginner Drop-In class on Sundays - one of my favorites. Lara Falberg teaches a great Level 2 hot yoga class on Wednesdays at noon right now that might be of interest. And Michael Murphy's classes are anything but easy - and I would suggest that you feel comfortable in vinyasa flow before taking his classes. Anyway, all that being said, this is the perfect spot. They have really convenient hours and classes, plus management and front desk are great at answering questions or adapting their schedules for their students. read more

I took one of Yoga on High's Ashtanga classes this fall. I thought the instructor did a fine job, but it was not life-changing. I am not a serious yoga person, but was impressed with how knowledgable the teacher was. The students were about half beginner and half advanced, but everyone was respectful and made a strong effort to follow the instructor. Very clean space, very friendly employees. Sizeable restrooms to change clothes if you come straight from work. Take off your shoes when you enter and leave them in the lobby. The rooms are basic but have natural light. Ask the front desk for a brochure of class offerings; they are extensive. Right in the heart of Short North. Free street parking is located a few blocks away. If you're into yoga and looking for a place to take regular classes in Columbus, I would recommend Yoga on High. read more

This studio's holistic approach to yogic health embodying individual needs in mind, body, and spiritual wellness is unique and truly a gem to find. The teach to access energy and relieve stress through teachings of the breath. This has been nothing short of eye opening for a busy-body like me. I've sampled yoga classes at several other studios in town and this is consistently the best place for good instruction, a comfortable & clean environment and good variety in class options. Four years ago, my friend bought an Beginner's Ashtanga class for me as a gift and it was both super challenging and a really great intro to that yoga style. (basically, it kicked our butts each week, but in a really good way) When I was pregnant, I took Prenatal Yoga with Lori and she was awesome as well. I was ecstatic to be able to continue taking classes with her after the birth of my son (Mommy & Baby Yoga). Now that my son is a toddler, we go to the Itsy Bitsy Yoga classes offered through Yoga on High and we couldn't be happier. I recommend YoHi to anyone I meet who has an interest in taking yoga classes. read more

First off, the positives: -Staff was very friendly, helpful. The studio was clean. Now the negatives: -Extremely overpriced - $19 for a drop in for an hour long class, highest price I have paid for a drop-in. -No locker room. -Advertised as hot yoga. I have been doing Baptiste power vinyasa yoga for several years, the studio was not hot. I thought it was strange no one else in the class had a mat towel, I quickly realized why. -Instructor was disorganized. She talked for the first 15 minutes of class. There was no warm up, we went right into several power poses without a single sun salutation. Frequently gave vague directions, confused which side the class should be working on. Transitions were very rushed, very little emphasis was placed on breathing with transitions, or establishing breathe at the beginning of class. There was no vinyasa "flow" in the class, just isolated poses. Overall, expected much more for the price and the online reviews, would not go back. read more

Yoga on High is an incredible and supportive community for the Columbus area. Through this studio, I have been able to make connections all across this city in a variety of interests and industries (not just yoga-related!). Also, this studio has a wide mix of classes and offerings with every teacher bringing their own flavor and expertise to the table. Take the time to get to know this studio, it's classes, people, and beliefs. I honestly think it has something for everybody (something YoHi works VERY hard to do). The ONLY thing that I would critique is that there are no showers on-site. For those hot/sweaty early morning classes, that would make the transition from class to work a lot easier. But obviously, it doesn't stop me from going to class :). read more

Practicing at Yoga on High is something I always look forward to. I can't help but get a sense of calm and happiness when I enter Yoga on High. To help get you yelpers set up for savasana (resting pose at the end) I am going to offer advice on the best side to set up your mat. Studio A: Same side as the second door near the back hallway (to avoid the hallway light). Studio B: Same side as the window (to avoid car headlights from the window). Studio C: Same side as the door (to avoid the hallway light). I am able to tune out the world and get in the savasana zone but this can be a little added comfort for people newer to yoga/the studio. I took two beginner drop in ashtanga classes with Michelle and another instructor. The class had about 8-12 people, so it was nice to get individual attention. Michelle and the other instructor were encouraging, and they both had great senses of humor. They don't take themselves too seriously, which, as a beginner, made me feel more relaxed. This is more of a 4.5 star review. Half a star was docked because there were no mirrors in the studio I was in. As a visual person, this would have been helpful. Otherwise, no complaints! Had a great time at both classes--I left feeling challenged and energized. read more

I'm a fan of Yoga on High. I took maternity yoga in Charleston and loved it. But being new to yoga I never felt confident that I was holding a pose correctly, especially the downward dog. And I could never get my breathing right. I'm always breathing in when I should be breathing out. The Beginner Hatha class at YoH has been terrific. My instructor makes sure to show us all of the poses, checks our form, and encourages us to ask questions. Somehow she knows exactly when I need to hear 'Breathe in', she keeps me on pace. I hope to attend the Level 1 classes when this class ends, it lasts ten weeks. Two recommendations I have - Offer the family classes on the weekends. I'd love to bring my daughter to the toddler class but I'm a working mom. The second suggestion is more of a dream - child care so I can come to class every night. read more

Awesome Yoga studio. I loved the Sekoia class i took today. Being a yoga novice, the instructor was attentive but not condescending at all. I felt very comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed the class. Yoga On High is great. I practice Ashtanga and they offer many Mysore style and Led Primary classes so when I'm in town I really enjoy going. They offer a wide variety of classes for the beginner to advanced students. The studio is very nice and the waiting area has a bunch of really great books, mats, towels etc. I would recommend this studio to any of my friends. The only issue I've had was where a OM Vinyasa teacher was telling us not to use Ujjay breath, this was very odd and she even noted it more than once saying that "the room and your bodies are warm enough" but gave no other insight on why she want us not to restrict our air passageways. I would understand if we weren't in an asana practice and doing some pranayama but this went against every thing I was taught around the world and the room was only in the 80s. The staff is great and they also have amazing sounding workshops. OM Shanti. read more

I'm a newbie to yoga, and Yoga on High has been excellent so far! I'm taking the prenatal class with Jennifer on Monday nights (which is conveniently located at the Elizabeth Blackwell center at Riverside for those of us who aren't downtown) and it is the highlight of my week. I wish I had signed up for multiple sessions so I can go more than once a week! They split up the prenatal classes into sessions that are 10 weeks long, and it's a reasonable $149 (each class is an hour and a half). I really enjoy the relaxation aspects and leave each class feeling healthy and rejuvenated. It's great for experienced yogis or first-timers like myself -- everyone in my class seems to feel at ease, no matter what their skill level. I'll be back next session -- for TWO nights a week! read more

I don't know. I hate writing a bad review. But here it goes. So, I'm ok with doing yoga that is purely a workout, and I'm also ok with doing yoga that is more spiritual. But the class I took at Yoga on High missed the mark in both categories. The class I took was labeled as a hot class, but it wasn't hot. No big deal because I wasn't looking specifically for a hot class. But still. There was very little attention given to the feel of the space. The teacher came in, realized there wasn't a stereo, left, brought one back in and struggled to get it to work, plugging and unplugging her iPhone into it repeatedly. Doors closed loudly. We faced a haphazardly decorated window sill. Again, not a big deal. My apartment is very haphazardly decorated and I tend to slam doors. I appreciate a well-thought out practice space, but I'm not OCD about it. Before starting the class, the teacher went to the back of the room where the announcements were posted and started to read them out loud. I don't really want to hear advertisements before class, especially read in an advertising sort of way. There was one about an upcoming wine fair, which just seemed like a weird thing to promote during a yoga class. But I don't know. Maybe that's just me. The music the instructor played was kind of strange for a yoga class. I think one song was off the Good Will Hunting soundtrack. Good movie, but I saw it when I was 16 with my high school boyfriend. The effect this had on my focus is probably a personal problem, but I thought I'd mention it anyway. The teacher was really into herself, and that was kind of annoying. She also gave some of the worst advice I've ever heard--if a posture makes you angry, stop doing it. I would advocate the exact opposite! I've found that the poses that make me angry are the most important ones to my growth and development. This would all have been fine if the class felt like exercise, but it didn't really. The teacher adjusted me a few times, and I was achy for days afterwards, but not in a good way. Apologies Yoga on High:-/ Maybe my experience was just a fluke. read more

It's funny how these things just come out from nowhere. Despite practicing yoga pretty seriously for about 6 years or so, all it took was about a minute in a Mysore style Ashtanga class and I knew, on a very innate, personal level, that This. Was. It. End of story. I mean, I thoroughly sucked, but still, the lights had been turned on, and since then every other form of yoga seems to have lost its sparkle and I've been completely drawn into the Ashtanga world. And a big reason why this style is so transformative is because of how incredible Ashtanga teachers are (you cannot get randomly certified to teach - it takes years of commitment and definitely spending plenty of time in Mysore, India). Taylor Hunt who runs the Mysore program at Yoga on High is an outstanding teacher and I have a tremendous amount of love and respect for him. He is, if I had to put it in terms of archetypes, an "Ideal Teacher" with his style that is a well-balanced act between pushing your limits without being aggressive and stepping back and giving you your space just when you need it. Yoga on High is a beautiful low key (no crazy frou frou) studio in Short North, a neighborhood that I've come to love. They have free parking, clean, spacious practice rooms, a wide range of classes and host some of the best known teachers who fly in regularly for workshops. Their prices are competitive, with a $60 introductory month offer, which everyone should take advantage of. Join the Mysore morning club and as Taylor puts it, "bring your ass to class". There's a ton of magical stuff happening there. read more

I started out my first Yoga on High experience in Irritated Mode. My ride had been late and then I had to fill out all the "first-time-here" questions on the form, so I came in just as the instructor started talking to everyone seated on their mats. She said to me, "Hi, just grab a mat and blanket, blocks and a strap, and join us". I said thanks, thinking, "ok, friendly, easy", and started gathering up the stuff. I found everything but the yoga mat. I looked under stacks of supplies, on top of shelves, behind piles of blankets, no mat. I looked again, lifted piles of little cut up foam, picked up fallen belts, moved the rugs -- nothing. The instructor kept talking to the class, no break for me to say, "um, excuse me...", so I finally stepped back out the door to ask the woman at the desk. She pointed to the floor next to the desk. Oh. They weren't in the studio with the rest of the equipment, but out in the lobby. Nice. Thanks. The actual class was great though. I've been going to a lot of "instructor-in-training" classes and had gotten used to those lately. This was clearly very different. There was no ambiguity in the directions, no aspect of the pose left unspecified -- I felt safe and sure about what I was doing, and the flow of the poses and the arc of the whole class was really smooth and sensible. I felt challenged, but do-ably so, and if any of the poses were beyond my abilities, she provided an alternative variation that was within my reach. And I felt fantastic afterwards. Sore abs today, which is....good, dammit. read more

I practiced at this yoga studio for about two weeks when I was in town once, and overall I thought it was a great studio. The instructors are fantastic and they have a really nice space. My only complaint was that everyone there seemed to take themselves a little too seriously. Yoga can be fun and sometimes messy, and that's OK. read more

i love yoga on high. everyone, from the instructors to the front desk, is really helpful and the breadth of course offerings is just staggering. there's pre-natal yoga, non-scary yoga, yoga for depression, world renown guest teachers, and all the "regular" practices like hatha, vinyasa, and ashtanga. the drop in classes are a perfect blend of reflection, focus, body, and breath. each position is carefully set up and given its due with adjustments for different skill levels. i'm so psyched to have found a world class yoga studio in columbus! read more

I purchased a Yelp deal and attended some classes at Yoga on High. Parking is a little limited in their parking lot, but I always had a space to park. The smallest class I attended had about 10 students and the largest was about 25 students. The teachers were all nice, and you just pick the class that interested you. I did not continue to attend classes after my Yelp deal because it's a little expensive, and you can walk in by paying a one time fee. read more

My first time at yoga on High was about 6 years ago when the studio was still on high street. To be honest, I wasn't a fan because of the "city vibe". My main complaint was stressing out about finding a parking spot, so I became a regular at another studio in town(which I still love). Recently, my bosses got me a gift card here for a class pass, so I started coming back to the new studio. Since I attend college courses, I took advantage of the student deal of unlimited classes for $59/ month, which is one of the best deals I've seen around. Let me just say that I really enjoy the new space. I've gone to 4 classes in the last 5 days, and loved every one of them- especially the sequoia class. It's a true full body work out and you'll generate a healthy sweat. I've decided to challenge myself and try to go to 25 classes within 30 days. I'd recommend the new student special to get a feel for it and go from there. read more

If you're looking for somewhere to enjoy a very relaxed yoga environment (yes, some of them aren't)... this is by far the best i've found. I absolutely love everything about it. The location is right next to the Montessori Children's House and they go together well. The teachers here are incredibly sweet and they have an excellent variety in their classes. They were also willing to go out of their way to work with my disability, which many places aren't. The people who go here are also incredibly friendly. This class is somewhere you easily could make good friends. There's no judgmental environment, and it doesn't take itself too seriously. read more

There is a wide variety of classes and events (they even have classes for disease/trauma), and lots of different and exceptional teachers. Good location, great teachers, nice retail selection and a wide variety of classes. My only gripe are the practice rooms. The two times I've been, the class was held in the main room, which has no windows, kinda yucky artificial lighting and is very echo-y when empty. It reminded me of a gymnasium. The other, smaller room looked more inviting, however, and had at least one window that I saw. I will definitely be back at some point, but I wish the ambiance were a little more "zen." read more

I am saddened to give this place such a low rating, however I feel it is justified. When I first started taking aerial yoga classes one year ago, they were amazing, and I would have given Yoga on High 5 stars. In the past few months, they have rapidly gone downhill. There is one instructor in particular who makes going to classes here intolerable. She is inappropriately loud and chatty and often delays the class. She attends most of the classes as a student as well as instructs her own, so there is really no way to avoid her. In the last class I took, she delayed the class by ten minutes by chatting and walking around with her cell phone to show pictures. She also kept making jokes about the forward fold and skyward dog positions as "aerial twerking". It was very inappropriate, and she just would not stop. The instructor was laughing along and encouraging her. The actual instruction of the classes has been simplified to the point of being watered down as well. The level one class used to include a move called the angel flip which has since been removed. Even holding a plank with your feet supported in the hammock which used to be held for about 20 seconds has been completely removed. It is basically the same simple moves every week. The room itself is a hard cement floor. There are circular mats, but they are not very soft, and I find my fingers often slip off the outer edges onto the floor as I try to get a deeper stretch. This is very painful and uncomfortable. The last class I took was a level two class. I have taken a few of these before, so I am not unfamiliar with the poses, but not yet proficient either. In this class, my foot got stuck as I tried to slide it up the hammock and cut very painfully into my ankle. I had to call for the instructor as she did not notice, and she delayed helping me until she helped everyone else. When she did get to me and confirmed I had set up correctly, she simply shrugged and said it might be because of low arches. I have very high arches and pointed this out. She simply said she would look into it. She is the only level two instructor, so there is no alternative. I love doing aerial yoga and stuck it out as long as I could at Yoga on High. I hoped that by taking the level two class, I might be able to progress, but I am done. Every class I have taken for the past few months has been a frustrating experience, and I simply cannot recommend it to anyone. read more

I recently took advantage of a free beginner's Hatha (yoga) class that was being offered and really enjoyed it. The rooms are large and at a comfortable temperature. Even better, you don't need to bring anything but yourself- they have everything you'll need for your class. The instructor was friendly and very helpful, correcting your form if needed. Yoga on High is one of those studios where you feel the power from the moment you walk in through those doors. The energy is unmistakable. I feel like my highest, most lifted self when I practice in this space. Lara, Michele, Jasmine & Michael are 3 of the biggest reasons why I started coming to this studio when I was a wee lil' college-goer. Through Yoga on High, i found my truest passion, Ayurvedic Medicine. It is crazy to think that if I never gave this studio a shot, I would have never found my true path in life. Still the best place ever for yoga. I am taking Kelly Rose's class again this quarter and although I am no better she is even better than before. This class continues to kick my butt, while being relaxing. It's like a Pizza Combo, two things that shouldn't coexist but oddly work well together. Yoga on High also offers restorative classes which are three hour courses on how to relax. It sounds weird but people actually walk out of this class and forget their keys they are so relaxed. They have weekly ones in December and it is worth your time to check it out. At $25 a pop, why wouldn't you? read more

I have been practicing yoga seriously for three years and went to the hot fusion class this morning. I was very disappointed. The price for a drop in for a student is $16 which was horribly overpriced. The practice itself felt rushed, I feel the teacher did not give enough direction, the practice did not even flow well. The vinyasas were rushed, I did not even have time to go from chaturanga to up dog by the time the teacher was telling us to go into warrior one. I also did not like the layout of the room and how you had to face other people. I felt like I couldn't focus on my practice and did not feel refreshed after the class was over.
