Known as one of the Seven Wonders of the Weald and situated in the Kent countryside near Lamberhurst, Bewl is the largest lake in SE England but that's not all there is to see. Admission is only £6 per car so it's great value for a day out. Take a picnic, a cruise around the lake aboard the 'Swallow' or have lunch in restaurant (not gourmet by any stretch!).
If you're up for it there are the waterside walks and rides, bikes for hire, a range of watersports and flyfishing.
I've run the round lake route (a hilly 13 miles, raced in the summer) a few times. Most of it is off road but it gets very muddy.
For kids, there's play equipment and a huge slide from a tower overlooking the water. Also check out the visitor centre which explains the water treatment process and how the reservoir was built.
Go and see the Dragon Boat racing held here each year in September. The festival is the largest event of its type in Europe with 51 teams competing in 10 dragon boats to raise money for charity.
Lapland has arrived at Bewl. From now until Christmas you can meet Father Christmas in his snowy home and see his reindeer and huskies. We've not been but it looks expensive. http://www.laplanduk.co.uk/ read more
