There are clubs and lessons for figure skating and ice hockey too. Where our local pool has hourly sessions and a mad rush for changing rooms at either end, we like the come and go whenever at Riverside. We also like the diving boards, 1m and 3m springboards, 5m platform (not always open - check website for times); great fun but rare elsewhere. A junior membership card is great value: my son skates every week so it's cheaper than paying for public sessions and he gets to swim for free too. It even includes parking when using the centre; casual users get a parking refund when paying but the pass avoids the ticket machine hassle. I also appreciate that the vending machines are not overpriced. What's wrong with it? Some complain the swim changing rooms are a little tired; they're not the greatest but they're perfectly satisfactory and you get your £1 back from the reasonably sized lockers. I came into today for the first time to open a anytime aqua membership and asked for a tour before that. The tour was quick and helpful but I later found out why she didn't show me the showers.. they're the worst part about the facility. Only 6 private shower heads in a small room in the back (only speaking for the female/right side). No private shower stalls and not enough circulation to get stuffy smells out . Bottom of the pool is slippery and has many stains. Pool and lanes are very large and wide. Water was warm in pool and showers which is a plus! I do like their locker system (you put in a pound and it returns to you when you unlock it with your key that's attached to a water proof bracelet). There were a lot of children running around but I like that because it makes it feel safe and family orientated. Negative because floors and titles were not clean- might need some renovation. There's a lot of changing rooms and they are rarely ever all filled up (I wish they would turn those into private showers) and some missing hooks to hang clothes. I also got a tour of the gym. It's one room. About 6-8 treadmills and area where there's weights facing a mirror. This room gets packed during 5-7pm, the changing room is upstairs, and lockers have a number pad to open. The front desk and waiting area is nice. All the ladies at the front are superb as they carry great attitudes. This place isn't the cleanest but it will do for those who just want to get in and out.

It can even be hired for birthday parties. It is quite reasonably priced at about £5 per session plus £2 for skate hire. Often in the local papers there are vouchers for 2 for 2 and discounts during school holidays. If you don't want to skate there are regular ice hockey matches by the Invicta Dynamos. For your teenagers they have regular disco skate nights and this seems to be a favourite with my sons school friends.

There is a small nursery slope where they do beginners lessons in both skiing and snowboarding. The big highlight for the kids is the tobbogan run which is really fast if you don't put the breaks on! The centre has been modernised giving it a clinical and clean feel. The gym upstairs has plenty of equipment and the wait for machines to become free is minimal if you have to wait at all. TV screens are on in front of the running machines meaning you can catch up on the days news stories or watch sports events. Weights machines are at the end of the room with a good selection. The pool downstairs is a good place to finish your session and cool off although you may have to share it with people taking part in various pool based sessions such as aerobics or kids clubs. Timetables are available on the website if you wish to have an undisturbed swim. If finishing the session with a swim is not for you then a cafe and bar makes a good location to sit and let your muscles recover. It is spacious and finding a table is not a problem. For those with kids, a creche service is on offer meaning you can train with ease. Parking facilities are on offer on site with a large car park outside with plenty of spaces. Price wise, Crook Log and Parkwood Leisure are very reasonable. Membership is £34 a month and this includes use of the gym and swimming pool facilities as well as discounts on court hire and other services at the centre.

Being situated on the A289 this park is really easy to locate for most people living in and around this area. some of the activities open throughout the year are -three golf course; - crazy golf; - tennis courts; - netball; - five-a-side football; - children's play areas including a little toy-train(£1 a ticket); - picnic areas. other attractions are paddling pools, a swimming pool(not sure if entrace fee is there or not) . or you could just strall beside the river and take in the sights of cruisers/boats on the river and gulls out fishing. In summer months the cafe is also open as are some ice-crem parlours. during the summer months lots of companies bring out bouncy castles and the area gets converted to a fair ground too with ferris wheels, and carousels etc. Parking is free and ample. All in all most children have a day full of fun and activities.
