I used to come to this beach (and town) every summer from the age of 5 - 14. The whole family would descend down from London, book up into the local caravan park and spend the holiday together. During that time (I'm now 25 and took my partner here yesterday ) and up until now, not a great deal has changed. This however is not a bad thing. The beach is beautiful, windy at time but regardless, one of the most softest sands you will feel on British soil. The dunes make for a fantastic view and offer some relief from the wind (if you have it that day) I highly recommend visiting this beautiful little town, it's beach and the local town of rye. This isn't your normal great British beach, this offers just something more that feels special. read more

'They do it down at Camber Sands, they do it at Waikiki' wrote Squeeze. Don't know why. Anyway, this place is THE off season sandy beach round these parts. Forget the summer, that's all Stella Artois, dodgy tats and lobster coloured sunburnt yobs & no-place-to-park territory. Autumn, winter & spring are for those 'in the know'. This place is massive, really big. I was there a few years ago and there was a beached ship the size of a Dover-Calais ferry there - look at the photo! I missed it initially!!! If you imagine a vast stretch of sand running for miles with wrapped up people walking, horses galloping and wind & kite surfers everywhere, then you have Camber Sands. Fantastic place. Camber itself is a curious run of wooden bungalows looking lost and beaten up by the elements & there is a Pontins style holiday camp too. Cripes! Ignore this & Qype Camber for some of the fantastic beach cafes that are about. For dinner & drinks Qype Rye. A beautiful place if you've never been. Can be a little 'cream tea' but there are some excellent fish restaurants too. A final tip is a stroll round Winchelsea. My favourite East Sussex village. Beautiful. read more

The beach is lovely. Once you get there that is. If you are coming from London, make sure you check out the turns and exits beforehand or take a sat nav. Otherwise a scheduled drive of 2 hours can quickly turn into 3. Also beware of crazy drivers on the last bendy 5 miles or so. I decided to stop and let one of the worse ones pass only to see him again 5 minutes later - he was standing next to his vehicle and filling in a crash report. A day in the sun does strange things to some people's heads. Apart from that, let me say once again that the beach is lovely. They also rent windshields and stuff even though it's not cheap. Also be prepared to pay for the parking. Again for a full day it won't be exactly cheap. read more

As british beaches go this is one of the better ones with te expanse of the sand dunes and a pleasant beach area to have food drink and ice creams.The beach is pretty large and in the rare hot days is packed with visitors-a favourite with families and not to far from Pontins. Downside it can get a bit too crowded on sunny days so get there early and save a spot for junir to make sand castles. read more

There aren't many sandy beaches in the South East, so this is place is a little bit special. I used to come here with my family when I was a child. After twenty years or so not much has changed. The beach is still sandy, the dunes are there. The price of car parking has gone up quite a bit, it used to be 20p or something like that, now it's £5 for 3 hours or so. When I was young we would park in Rye and walk along the river to the beach. At least there are some facilities in the car park such as a cafe and a toilet block. The beach is relatively flat and as such it can be a long walk to the sea. Also because of that the tide comes in very quickly. read more

I had a wonderful time at Camber Sands lounging in the sun, drinking beer and snacking on yummy picnic treats. It was my first English beach experience and not that terribly different than my experiences on east coast beaches in the US. Just more beer and sunburn. Ha. This is a lovely beach - a huge expanse of sand so no painful walks over the pebbles to dip your toes in the sea !! In the winter time, it's a great place to exercise your dog (but make sure you clean up after it) and if you take a few binbags with you, you can have a great laugh sledging down the sand dunes until your bum hurts !!! read more

Probably the best beach in the South East! This massive stretch of flat sand seems to go out for miles before you get to the sea. Safe for small children as the water never gets too deep and in summer, it can even get close to warm. Good for kite flying as there's always a breeze, beach cricket, football etc. There's plenty of room to find a quiet space and relax with a family picnic. A windbreak's a good idea (you can hire one along with deckchairs). Shop and toilets available in the car park. Charges are reasonable. Bit of a hike over the dunes through thick sand but worth it when you get there. Make sure you've used the facilities otherwise it's a tiring walk back especially with a toddler in tow! read more
