$13.25 for TWO -- not, one, TWO -- 12" hoagies is a really good deal. The sandwiches are well constructed, and taste decent. The thing about discount hoagies, though, IMO, is they never taste like the best hoagies in the area. In this case, not enough meat for me. I am super picky about my hoagies, though, to be fair. I will say that most discount hoagies, including these, definitely rival/surpass your average pizza joint's version of a hoagie, for half the price. So I have to give them 10 stars for value, but I can't five them on flavor. The hoagie is an art, as Philly knows. Bevan's definitely wins for value. Pricewise, I think they may even beat Major's (Major Wing Lee, in East Falls), and they are better tasting than Major's. Props for that. The person who checked me out was a fun and courteous individual. It was my first time in, and I ended up placing two separate orders: one for me and one for a friend. I loved my corned beef sandwich (it definitely had a good amount of meat! So clearly feedback was heard from the earlier reviews) and I got to try a new kind of Herrs product I hadn't seen before. My friend loved her sandwich (Reuben) but said the fries were a bit soggy. They were made fresh for the order, so it's possible they were a bit underdone? read more

Was in the area and wanted a good cheesesteak. Order a large with American cheese, mushrooms and onions. I also ordered the fried mushrooms. I thought the steak was just ok, roll was soggy and not much meat. The breaded mushrooms would have been so much better with some more seasoning. This is not a sit down place (there are two, two seat tables avail) and there are no fries or soda machines... if you're looking for a "sit down" place this is not it. Think of it as a gas station place your order and go. Cheesesteak sandwich large was ok and nothing to rave about... and lacking meat compared to other places I've visited in the area. Having grown up in Northeast Philly with a mom & pop deli at the corner of my block, I consider my palate quite refined when it comes to Philly-style neighborhood fare. Now... I have lived in the boro for a little over two years now and despite the fact that I live a little less than a quarter mile away from this place, I've never wandered in. That's mostly due to the fact that almost every raving recommendation I've gotten for a sandwich shop from boro natives has fallen painfully short of expectations. Not to put too fine a point on it, but Bevans will be my go-to from now on. The deli case is a carbon copy of the ones you'll find throughout the Northeast parts of the city, and the selection of cold cuts sidesteps the mediocrity of supermarket-style displays by taking the approach Henry Ford took when he rolled out the model T: "The customer may have any color he wishes so long as it is black." Each product on display has most obviously been expertly selected by the proprietor. And you should thank him for it. Bodega-style limited inventory is also close at hand for your convenience, but the real evidence that these folks have elevated the deli sandwich to a high art are in the details. Order the hoagie special (a sentimental philly traditional offering that includes a small bag of chips and a can of soda) and your sandwich will arrive at the counter in traditional butcher paper... snugly wrapped (without tape) by the hands of a true artist. It's a presentation that subtly hints at the deli's long history of success in the neighborhood having been in business since the late 1950's. UNWRAP that butcher paper (on a tailgate or an office desk) and what you'll find inside can only be described as philly deli perfection. Wafer-thin slices of cold cuts are staged according to your preference (ham & cheese, American, Italian, etc.) and placed on top of expertly proportioned layers of lettuce tomato and onion. Where most local places in this niche try to upsell you on "double meat", Bevans understands the subtle art of keeping hoagie contents in balance... balance that won't have your Amoroso's long roll (I'm guessing) bursting in your hands halfway through the sandwich. They're satisfying without doubling as a post-lunch sedative. Five stars doesn't do it justice. And I'm sure you'll agree. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect when I first walked into Bevan's last weekend for quick lunch takeout while we were renovating our house, but I was pretty impressed. The woman at the front could not speak perfect english, but she was very helpful nonetheless. I am gluten free, which posed a bit of an issue at a deli, but we worked around it. My boyfriend was happy with his turkey and cheese and I got a cheesesteak with no bun, which was very good. They also appear to have great lunch specials that I'll keep in mind when I'm working from home in the future. What I didn't know about Bevan's is that they are also a little grocery store as well - carrying food, paper goods, even toys for kids! This was very good to know. Almost everything is fresh and homemade. Foods are good especially the Italian hoagies and cheese steak. Soups are also hot and tasty. Clean environment and prices are affordable. Came with my friends between classes, owner (im assuming he was the owner) was really friendly and made my friends sandwich fresh and pretty fast, she raved about the onion rings too. OK first the sandwich is a pretty good value and acceptable quality for the $, it's Amoroso rolls and Hatfield meats so the sandwich its self is maybe 3 stars. Nothing you couldn't slap together at home. The shop itself??? I don't know where to start it's like a 1971 Wawa with all the rejected shelf items in bad lighting. I mean really do I want to by cough drops, tampons and Royal Gingsing from a shop that was at 1 time a classic deli shop?? The owner whom I assume is the Asian guy really has no vision. Poor selection of chips (Herrs), a selection of what I assume are Little Debbie out of the box chocolate whatevers (you know the box that says not available for individual resale) bagged Swedish Fish, Marlboro's, Spaghetti, Fried fish platters, detergent my God I could go on. This poor guy needs help, take down the stuffed pig and deer hear that's older than I am, get rid of all the worthless sh!t on your shelves and stock it with things like jars of peppers, pickles, pickled veggies, a nice selection of Pretzels,Chips,Popcorn, candies. I'm not asking you to be Dean and Deluca but I'm scared to walk to the back of the store! Hang some cheeses, meats, herbs from the ceiling. Hand some food pictures on the wall, get rid of the TV, fill your Deli case with interesting and colorful items. Earn WC respect as a Deli!!! Get rid of the crappy Amoroso rolls get Sarcones or Liscio get Termini Bros Cannolis get some upscale soda and move your bev coolers.
