Breakfast seems to be the best menu. We've eaten there a couple of times, and would do so again but just don't feel as driven to get out . Prices fair, food fair, service fair. I just want to spend my money on better than fair if eating out. I'm a cook so this may impact my review. If you are not a cook, highly recommend trying them out. Stopped by this cool little restaurant for breakfast, but we were too late and pivoted to lunch. I got the tenderloin open-face sandwich and my partner got a cheeseburger. Both were hot and delicious. The service was great and the server was attentive. It was well worth the drive to enjoy a great meal. read more

Contrary to what yelp says, this place has reopened. The menu is now hand written, but it is the same, excellent diner, type food with the same friendly service. When we visited, it was cash only due to the phone line being disconnected. We enjoyed both the fried chicken and the chicken fingers. It's nice that they have servings sized for seniors as well as children. I hadn't seen that before. It was actually full after church on Sunday, so it's definitely in business! read more

Well we heard of this place... But we were in the area and it was past lunch time so rather than coming back into town we came here based on local recommendations. My wife had a fried chicken salad. Large and packed with the extras. Really good and the best ranch dressing. Now for the highlight... I got the pork tenderloin on a large bun with fried okra. Okay so nobody has better fried okra that I've had anywhere in the metro of Kansas City. The pork looks slightly overcooked but it was not. It was crispy and crunchy on the outside... Moist and delicious on the inside. Not to thick... Not too thin. Not chewy. Here's the thing. I've had pork tenderloin here and there and all different ways. Hands down... This was absolutely the best I've ever had. So worth the drive to come back. I did the butterscotch cream pie for dessert. This was the best I've had in a really long time... I need to come back and try more flavors of pie. Take a day trip to here and treat yourself. Family friendly. Small town Cafe atmosphere. Reasonably priced. Friendly and attentive service. Ain't fancy. But this is great food!! read more

We're traveling through and found this little gem. We had a wonderful home cooked breakfast. The prices were good. Two of us had breakfast for under $20. Coming from California that's cheap! My dad said "this is my kind of place!" Service was just as good as the food. Thank you Betty! If we're ever in this area again we will definitely stop! read more

Absolutely the best traditional diner food around! I've had breakfast, lunch and dinner here. My favorites: The size of your face crispy tenderloin sandwich with pickles, lettuce and a side of fresh horseradish. The tenderloin was juicy and breaded to perfection! Fries were crisp and tasty. Let me speak on the freshly fried zucchini. Not kidding. It was like taking a step back in time and being in my Grandma's kitchen. I just can't say enough good things about this place! If you don't try the pie then you're not doing yourself any favors. Made fresh. You can buy a slice or a whole pie. I had the sour cream raisin pie which is ANOTHER classic my Grandma made in her days. So good! There's so many delectable little items on the menu and don't forget to check the specials board. In order to support locally owned restaurants during this time of staying home because of the C virus we ordered carry out from Betty's today. She's taking call ahead orders only. We called and Betty answered in her usual cheerful voice. She took our 3 meal orders and we agreed on a pick up time. When I arrived everything was ready. We had a hot roast beef, 2 tenderloin dinners and a gooseberry pie mmm. As suggested for safety upon arriving home all food was put on our plates, boxes trashed, hands washed, food warmed in microwave (an extra step for safety), then we had a tasty dinner! I am VERY disappointed in how my family was treated on Mother's Day. For how much the chicken costs, it was like eating stringy jerky. And to top it off, my 1 yr old grandchild, had had a rough morning, and my daughter was told to get him under control. She has 3 small children, and it's just hard to find a time when EVERYONE is happy, to do do anything. He was just not interested in the food...maybe that's another critic of the nasty chicken? Home cooking at its finest. Husband & I have had breakfast there several times and tonight was our first dinner experience. Was not feeling like making anything so we decided to get some take out. Her specials were a Popcorn Shrimp & Fish Filet dinner & Tenderloin Sandwich so that is what we ordered. Husband had the fish & shrimp and ate every bite. I had one of the best tenderloin sandwiches ever (no frozen fritter here). Thick and hand breaded with homemade chips. I couldn't finish it all so I will be having the other half for lunch tomorrow. Typical diner fare on the menu. I had the bacon cheeseburger w/ fries and i was pleasantly surprised. I have grown very skeptical about small town restaurants in my travels as they usually end in either shock at the high quality and local "delicacy", something worthy of a travel show, or ends in utter distress over the horrible food and experience; rarely a middle ground. This establishment, although lacking in decor, was of the former. My burger was great. I should have asked for medium-rare but I'm always hesitant to do so in small-town, rural establishments. I later realized, after seeing the presentation, that this place could have most likely accommodated. The vegetable accoutrements were on the side as they should be, the fries were properly cooked (albeit lacking in salt), and the chatter of the small town familiarity the other patrons had with each other, as people arrived or departed, provided a kind atmosphere while I read the news. Next time I come through this part of the country, I plan to stop here for another go. read more

We enjoyed having lunch here today. The people will all super friendly. By getting to the restaurant at 11:30 they weren't busy. By the time we left they were completely full and had more people coming in. My husband had the vegetable beef soup along with a sandwich. He said the soup was excellent. The sandwich he is taking home for supper. My food was very good, very well prepared and nice and hot. Holt is very small and they are lucky to have a diner like this here. read more
