We found Beth via a thorough research on Yelp. After reading several reviews and the outcome we decided to bring our 4 year old Pit,German,Rott,Lab mix to her for a consultation. Let's back up a 2 years ago. My pup had aggressive issues towards puppies. We stopped going to the dog park because we didn't want a liability. As time progressed the aggressiveness got worse and recently transitioned to the neighborhood kids, and various dogs on our daily walks. Fast forward to present, we have a 2 year old toddler in the house that is very playful with the dog. One day, our dog growled at our toddler. Fortunately I was on the couch with both of them. I immediately yelled at our dog and he backed off! That was it!!! We needed help before it was too late. On our first day, we did not have control of the dog; he was all over the place and not listening. Friends and family with whom we've interacted referred to our guy as a maniac. Beth did a great job with our dog Tibbers. He really liked her. She was very sensitive to how sensitive our dog is. She is also very flexible on time. Beth recommended a prong collar for our dog which he struggled with at first but in the end it was great for him. Beth did tell us to buy two chains from her because of our dogs size. She wanted to hold on to the extra pieces to the extra chain because she was worried customers would add links when they shouldn't. I was ok with this, but after training was over I expected to receive the collar I purchased and all the extra links. I received a two pieces back and after requesting the collar I received that back, but it did not include all the links I originally purchased. Overall Beth was great my only recommendation would be to receive all the items you purchase at the time of purchase because they are expensive and you paid for it. read more

We have a 9 month old German Shepard mix named Scout that needed some training for barking at just about everything as well as listening to us. My husband started looking into a trainer for Scout and found Beth. We immediately scheduled a consultation to see if she would be a good match for what we were looking for. After the consult we knew right away that Beth was who we wanted to work with. We decided on the training package where she came to our home for all of the sessions. She was great at fitting in the sessions to our availability. Walking Scout has never been very fun. He is extremely strong and would pull us pretty much the entire walk. On our first session we went on a walk with Beth and it was the easiest walk we had ever had with Scout up until that point. We did purchase her custom made collar and that was a complete game changer. With each training session we were seeing huge improvements in our puppy. We did do a day board with Beth where we dropped Scout off in the morning with her and then picked him up in the evening. This was an extra training that we added on and was the beginning of us seeing the transformation with our pup. With Beth's training we were able to gain the respect from Scout that wasn't completely there. We are able to now take him outside without him constantly parking at people or cars. Walks are now easy and enjoyable with our pup. We learned how to do commands with him and play fetch with him where he actually drops his toy for us to play with him. I am a first time dog owner who fell in love w/a rescue pup at an adoption event. I'm not usually impulsive, and typically take a lot of time researching anything before I invest; but it was love at first site when I saw my little guy. I brought him home without really considering all of the work it would take to be a good dog mommy. Needless to say, he didn't stay little for very long, and it became very apparent recently that I needed to find a good trainer because my giant puppy has grown to be a heck of a lot stronger than me. I was having trouble controlling him on walks. He would lunge and bark at other dogs, people, birds, passing cars...even leaves. He's super sweet with the family, but he's skittish with strangers. At almost 100 lb's, he was becoming an uncontrollable beast out in public, and I was timing walks for around 9pm every night in an attempt to avoid getting humiliated and scaring the crap out of anyone we happened to encounter. The last straw was when my son took the dog on a walk and got dragged into the middle of the street when the dog went after a car (he tries to attack diesel vehicles). I searched carefully for a trainer that could provide one on one sessions, as putting my dog in a class w/a bunch of other dogs didn't seem like a good scenario. I also needed someone who could be flexible and accommodating, because my work schedule is nuts. And, I didn't want to do a class 1x/wk over a long period of time. I basically wanted my dog perfectly trained overnight. Tall order, yes. But, Beth delivered!! I'm so incredibly happy and fortunate to have found her. She is fantastic! My dog's behavior was improved after the consultation (he hasn't jumped on me since!), and she did a demo w/both her dog and cat that was so impressive I didn't hesitate to enter into a contract with her. Jones graduated today. I can not recommend Elizabeth Koenig enough. She put in 110%, was the funnest to work with and zeroed in on his problem areas like a shark. As our friends and even Beth says he's a different dog. Today at the dog park he had 3 dogs in his personal bubble and he was unphased. When we got him he was a spaz if there was an animal or person 20 ft away. The best thing is she gave us the tools to teach him. He got the one on one attention he needed vs a "school" when you pay hundreds of dollars to watch essentially youtube videos. And every session felt more like hanging out with a dog smart friend than a "how to", dull, follow-the-leader, class. Jones still has a way to go with friends who visit but that's something that can't be rushed. Some he instantly loves and others he's slowly accepting. I have a husky that just turned 1 year old and never had formal training. Two different dog owners at the Fremont dog park recommended Beth Koenig. I signed up for a 6 lesson package. We have not finished our training yet, but I am very pleased with the results so far. Our husky had never properly walked on a leash before and now she is heeling wonderfully. Beth really loves her work and spent as much time as we needed on our lessons. At the end of our first lesson, she noticed that our dog was shedding excessively (in January). I had thought our husky must be blowing her coat -but it turns out that we just didn't know the right way to brush her. Beth spent extra time with us showing us the most effective way to brush. She also gave us information about nutrition and raw food diet. I learned that she trains dogs for police work and I was very impressed with how her own pups are so obedient. I have now also learned that Beth is a school teacher which must be why she is so good working with my 10 year old daughter and helping her train our husky too. I had a rambunctious Jack Russel Terrier who was just about a year old who had some definite signs of following his own directions. I sought out Beth after deciding I didn't need puppy classes but some serious help and direction. Beth whipped my dog up into shape in weeks! We went from running through the front door when it's opened like a jail break to sitting patiently at the door with it open, devoutly focused on me and not running away. A week or two later he had gotten through a hole in the fence, a problem I was used to. Normally I have to go fetch him but this time I called his name and the "come" command and he came right through the same hole he left in! Definitely the training was paying off quicker than I anticipated. Beth is extremely considerate, keen, and easy to work with. She has a wonderful eye for spotting things about your interaction with your dog that help you become a better communicator and leader for your dog. When I saw the 1-star review here I was skeptical but my friend recommended her so highly that I went to the assessment and boy am I glad I did. Beth used her own dogs as part of the training sessions with awesome results, and she has blown me away with how well our dog is now. We have a 1-year old male Labrador who was quite the handful. When Beth said that the goal was to be able to be able to control him only by voice without a leash (e.g. in the house) in 6 sessions I laughed because I doubted that my high-energy and poorly-trained pup would be able to achieve that... But now just 2-3 weeks later we are there and he's so incredibly well behaved! Leveraging her dogs as part of the training was so helpful as well, not just as distractions for my dog to learn but also so we could see how it works. I was able to bring him to a park without fear of him dashing away, and he sits on command, stays as long as needed, and totally on my voice. Of course, he was always a good dog underneath all that energy but Beth has provided the training for me and supplied the tools I need to manage him. What a difference! Beth helped me with my golden retriever (Yoshi). She was very instrumental in getting Yoshi under control. Yoshi was very excitable around people. He would jump on people and I could not control his desire to greet people by jumping on them. Beth quickly fixed that issue and we went from there to get him to obey me when asked to sit or lay down or come to me. We worked with him off lease and it's amazing that what she has done to him. I know I need to continue working with him but the foundation is there and I know its up to me to keep working with him. What is important for people to understand, training a dog takes time and if your not willing to put in the time then you won't get the benefits of training. We were having problems with our German Shepherds. They would pull, bark and go crazy chasing other dogs to the point that we did not even dare walk them together. Beth took one look at them and promised us that she would be able to have us walk them together around dogs in five minutes. Not true, it only took her two. She has trained us to handle our dogs. We now bring Kona and Maui for walks and we are even able to let them play with dogs at the dog park. If you have dogs with behavior issues, I highly recommend you ask her for advice. Beth did an AMAZING job, at the time of the consultation our 8month old Giant Schnauzer puppy was totally running the show and was acting like she was alpha. She knew the basic sit, down, stay, and leave it commands but only did them when she wanted to not on command and she pulled a lot when walking. During the consultation and the first session our puppy (Delta) started to realize that she was no longer going to be running the show and threw a massive fit! Instead of our session being 30mins it lasted almost 2 hours! And when I saw a massive fit I mean constant barking, growling, fighting back, non reluctant to walk or do any command at all, crying, and at one point she literally threw herself on the floor! It was really bad and I was afraid Beth would throw the towel and wish us luck but she didn't! She was persistent and never lost hope and showed us in the consultation and 1st session that we need to be calm and collective leaders! Thankfully the only one that threw the towel in was our puppy and 2nd session until the last she learned how to PROPERLY sit/lay down until released and can do it on common anytime anywhere regardless of distractions. She can heel and walk by our side and Beth even taught us how to loose leash walk her and she can now walk by our sides and come when called!! She honestly and absolutely is a different dog that we can take anywhere and she can enjoy and explore the world around her! Another thing I left out was that our puppy did not like being touched or pet by anyone other than us when we started our training but after our training was over with Beth, our puppy was more social and would go up to people and slowly start letting them touch her. Now almost a month after our training she is much more social and will let everyone touch her and she'll be all over them!! Beth honestly did so amazing and we couldn't thank her enough! Beth did a wonderful job with our "doodle-dog" puppy. Our dog has a lot of energy but also a lot of anxiety. She would bark and pull on the leash with any dog or person we passed, and her whole approach to the world was bark first and figure it out later. We looked at various trainers and places and decided upon Beth because the 1:1 training seemed to be the best approach. Not only did the adults get training, but Beth also did sessions with our kids so everyone in the family could teach our pup the correct way of doing things. We are so glad we got to work with Beth because after our training, our pup was a different dog! Beth is a great trainer with excellent skills on reading canine body language and diagnosing problem behaviors. We got a 3 year German Shepherd mix on a foster-to-adopt program and had trouble reading his behavior with our cats (fear or aggression) and dogs in the neighborhood. I called a few trainers in the area, and most of them recommended their training packages without even wanting to evaluate the dog. I even took my dog to one of them who wouldn't even let my dog interact with his. I talked to Beth on the phone and she didn't recommend any of her services and wanted to evaluate the dog first before she could advise us. She came home the same evening with her dog. She observed the behavior of our dog with our cats and with her own dog before telling us that her on-leash behavior with cats was prey-drive and with other dogs was excitement. She was very honest about what we could expect from training and what was bad behavior that could be corrected and what was nature. She was also willing to give references from her other clients. We ended up doing a one hour lesson with her and our dog loved the lesson. She stayed with us for over an hour and half total. She also gave a very impressive demo of her training with her dog. Beth is an expert in Malinois training. She works with her sharp mind, body and big heart with both doggies and owners. My Mali schooling has been interrupted by a major car accident I l have been living through. So instead of graduating from basics to the K-9 Harvard this agile Mali of mine had to learn how to walk very slow with an elderly lady (60) and her walking cane. Beth is fantastic in helping my Mali catching up with her education toward Doggie's SATs. We're are working on perfecting super-good canine citizen behavior in crowded places, and on zero response time between command and doggie's response. We are finally starting with protection training and hopefully the K-9 Shutz will start soon as well and my Mali can graduate from Beth's doggie Harvard with flying colors.
