I cannot recommend Beth enough!! Our girl Milly was a bit reactive towards people and dogs on leash. We've been to other trainers but they weren't able to help us with her biggest issue, which was reactivity. We had our consultation and within the hour and a half or so she spent with Beth there was a massive improvement. We couldn't believe our eyes! When I got my puppy, Oreo, he was just three months old. He was a rescue and was just the sweetest thing and the smartest dog I've ever met. But whatever his story was before he came to me really started to come out around the six / seven-month mark. We couldn't go on walks without him barking at every single person we saw. He was terrified of all the other dogs. And probably the scariest behavior he exhibited was when he tried to aggressively bite our vet while they were trying to restrain him to take a sample. I was overwhelmed at the idea of taking care of him by myself - I couldn't ask other people to help out with him because I was really worried Oreo would be aggressive with them and maybe even hurt someone. After my consultation session with Beth, I was already blown away. She had him walking nicely on a leash within the first half hour (super important to me - I have a bad back), and I was able to start taking him on walks without him barking at every person we walked past by the time we left her house. Beth and I had a total of 6 sessions together, including a whole day where she day-boarded Oreo and worked with him on getting him to think before reacting. Long story short - he went full-on attack mode on a Dremel while trying to do his nails. Fast forward to today and I was able to do his nails on my own without him exhibiting any aggression. Oreo is a completely transformed dog today. He is an angel on walks, he ignores dogs barking in their yards when we walk past, he warms up to people more quickly, and he listens when he's told not to do something or to drop it. At eight months old, he has free reign around the house now (no more baby gates) and I really don't have to worry about him. He hasn't put his teeth on me in over a month and my vet can't believe how much better he was doing during our last visit. He even let us restrain him to look at a cut on his paw. We just started practicing off-leash walking in the neighborhood on our walk this morning. The greatest victory in my opinion is my nieces who are 9 & 10 visited last week and within the first day were proclaiming Oreo was the "nicest, sweetest, best boy in the world." Even my stepmom who has been attacked by a dog and is terrified of them met Oreo and thought he was so sweet and well-behaved. I saw Beth training at a park and I knew I wanted to work with her, it was nothing about what the dogs around her were doing or not doing. Beth reinforced the idea that good dog training is mostly human training with a few added tools. Before Beth, I wouldn't walk our dog much, there was lots of pulling and fear of her chasing a squirrel if I wasn't braced to avoid being yanked off my feet. After Beth, walking is so much more fun. Before even going forward with Beth, I saw that there was a 1 star review (and the only non 5 star review by the way) and I immediately disregarded it. There are always 2 sides to every story, but since there was only 1 "bad" review and like a million other 5 star reviews, that just tells me that they may not be telling the whole story and perhaps trying to make Beth look bad for whatever reason. Anyway, now with my review: Beth has been so amazing!! I was completely blown away by how much she knows and I honestly thought my dog Canelo was completely hopeless. To give you an idea, my dog is a little dumb and clumsy sometimes (but then again, so am I) but he's a sweet dog overall. He is my very first dog and I thought maybe at his 5 years of age he might have trouble learning new things, but both he and Beth really blew me away. Before I got started with Beth, I heard about her services through a friend who has gone through her services before. I have never gone with any other trainer before, but I was already considering getting basic obedience training for my pup at some point. I decided to sign up for a consultation session because I figured I wouldn't have anything to lose and let me tell you - I am SO HAPPY I went forward with that consultation because I learned more about myself and why my dog reacts to certain things. Beth essentially explained to me that she isn't just training your dog, she more so is training the owner (she of course explains it WAY better); I can definitely confirm this being true because I realized that I inadvertently did certain things that made my dog react a certain way, so Beth pointing out things that I needed to change was extremely helpful. If it weren't for Beth, I'd probably continue complaining about how my dog just simply didn't like to do what was asked of him. I am so happy about getting her services and even though my dog is all trained up with what I initially wanted, I want to pursue further training. Beth not only is extremely helpful, but she is also very honest. She is NOT the type of person who only wants your money and doesn't care to go above and beyond to meet your needs. Over the years, I have gone to Beth consistently for my dog training needs. She has trained three of my dogs. My first dog was my long-haired German Shepherd, Gunny who is in her videos on YouTube. My second dog was a long-haired German shepherd named Luna and she was three years old rescue. And my current dog is Voodoo a pudlepointer and he's a year and a half. I moved away to Paso Robles, but I still visit Beth about it every year for a refresher for my pup and myself. We are currently working on house manners, when I go out the front door he tries to bolt looking for a cat to chase. This dog is a little more work for me because he's my first puppy because the other two dogs I had were rescues were already adult. Beth is an awesome trainer. I'm at about 4 sessions and my dog is transformed. First off, she's expensive but so are all dog trainers. You'll see dog trainers offer 12 session packages with add on packages but Beth is different. She offers a 6 session, 2 week guarantee package. Which originally when she told me I felt like it was too good to be true. But even with just the consultation I saw a change in my dog. Because he is reactive I needed to continue but if your only issue with your dog is something like leash pulling you could walk out of the consultation and have the results you need. With all the things she has taught me I think i'll never need to go back to her. In other words, the 6 sessions I paid for will be all I need for my dog and if I get another dog I'll already have the tools to train them as well. I think most dog trainers (because it is their livelihood) have you continue training with them for weeks, months, maybe even a whole year which would add up to way more than what Beth charges. Secondly, Beth has A LOT of knowledge. First session i was a little overwhelmed because I have never needed to train any of my dogs so I had no experience. She will have a lot of information to share and she will remind you each session so you can process it. It will feel like a lot at first but keep an open mind and it will start coming together as you see the results. YOU MUST KEEP AN OPEN MIND. She is an expert and I decided to put my full trust in her. I ALWAYS thought prong collars were inhumane but I put my trust into her and she changed my mind. She has been training dogs since she was in high school, she knows what she is talking about. The prong collar is allowing my dog to go out more and he's happier for it. He's starting to get excited when I put it on him because he recognizes it as his opportunity to go out and explore. I don't have to confined him to my backyard and avoid people/dogs. Lastly, she's very responsive and very open. You can ask her silly questions that might be obvious and she won't make you feel dumb for it (other trainers sometimes do). She makes herself available through text in case a question pops up. I'm not sure how many clients she takes at a time but her response time is usually not longer that maybe a few hours max. Beth is our go-to trainer for our 10 month old malinois. She has high standards and extensive experience building the foundation of obedience in puppies/dogs of all ages. Our puppy is well behaved and now learning intermediate to advanced training within 7 sessions. As many comments below attest, in the first consultation she'll usually show you what your dog needs work on. On top of that she'll tell you what mistakes YOU, as the owner, need to work on to get the results you want from your dog. Her methods are usually fairly simple and straightforward - but most importantly - they're highly effective. She can probably train any kind of pet in the Bay Area, but beware she has a serious background in training high level police and protection dogs. She accepts no nonsense; if you want your pet companion to be treated with kid gloves, she probably ain't the one for you. Nonetheless, if you want a highly obedient and respectful dog.. I do not even know how to start this review. All I could say is that Beth is amazing at what she does! I have an Alaskan Malamute (Apollo) who is just over a year old and if you know a little about Siberian/Alaskan breeds, you could tell that my family and I were desperate for some training for our young pup! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE, I would say her training style is good, but BECAUSE OF HER MISTAKE and MISJUDGMENT, we had to rush our dog to ER on a Sunday evening with multiple bite wounds. I WOULD NOT WORK WITH HER (ESP if she is using her K9 dogs during training). IF SHE CANNOT TRAIN HER OWN DOGS, HOW WILL SHE HELP US TRAIN OUR DOG? We were looking to train our 5 yr old medium size, for general door bell barking and barking on other reactive dogs on walks. We went to Beth and the consult went very well. We initially liked her style of training. One the 1st day of training (JAN 2, 2021 start of NEW YEAR), she came to our house for a in-house session. Firstly she brought 3 of her big K9 "IN TRAINING" dogs (9 month olds malinois). One she kept in our crate (which after she left, we saw it was soiled with dog vomit!!). The other two were in her car. The overall training was going well. Towards the end, she wanted to create a scenario using her other two dogs. That was to show how to train our dog when other reactive dogs are around. So we went outside, created a walk scenario where we were walking and she was holding one of her dogs and other was tied to a tree. Mind you those were BIG 9 month old MALINOIS (WHICH ARE STRONG DOGS). So we are walking and both her dogs are barking like crazy (based on her command to "ONLY BARK"). We reach closer to them and all hell gets loose. The one that was tied to the tree, GETS LOOSE, runs towards us and STARTS ATTACKING and BITING our dog. We were totally in shock, at how a trainer's dog will suddenly start attacking!!! Beth at that time was holding the other dog (which was also barking). She came to rescue and instead of rescue, that other dog also starts biting our dog. So now we have TWO BIG DOGS BITING OUR DOG (one towards neck and one towards lower back). IT WAS HORRIBLE, OUR DOG WAS CRYING IN PAIN LIKE CRAZY. AFTER about 2-3 minutes of this, my husband was somehow able to get our dog free from their bite. I grabbed her and ran towards our house. In that time, Beth got hold of her two dogs and put them back in her car. She came to us to check our dog was walking fine, and bleeding and stuff. Since our dog has curly hair, we could not see the bleeding that was happening. After she left, we examined her more and found bad DEEP BITE Wounds on her back and was bleeding bad. We immediately took her to ER and got her treated. Beth did take care of the medical bills, BUT the mental trauma this is causing us and our dog cannot be undone. ITS THE OWNER'S FAULT WHEN THEIR DOG BITES. SHE MISJUDGED HER PUPPIES, TO BE FULLY TRAINED BEFORE BRINING THEM TO A CLIENT FOR SUCH TRAINING. If you read nothing else, just read this: If you are unsure who to trust with your dog's training, trust Beth! I have a VERY dog reactive German Shepherd. His aggression problems toward other dogs easily bordered, if not crossed, the line of dangerous. His behavior problems were impacting both his quality of life, and mine. I felt as though I could never leave the house with him, for fear of running into another dog. Even bathroom breaks left me fearful, and caused an intense amount of anxiety. When I contacted Beth, she told me she could do a consultation, and that I would see results by the end of that consultation. I was skeptical, because at this point, I have tried everything. Beth is one of the best dog trainer I have ever met, she is very patient and professional. I have adopted a three years old German Shepard mix about a year ago. Brought her to see Beth about a year ago she never pushed her training on me because Yoko (my dog) dosent seem to have immediate behavioral problems, so we left. One year later I realized Yoko started to develop aggression towards other dogs while she is on leash, because I am eventually going to move back to the city I can't have her doing that, so I went back to see Beth.
