Bethesda is a very well maintained assisted living facility with very friendly and well trained staff. We place our brother with disability in Bethesda a few months ago. He praised the staff are more friendly and available, the food are better, even the air is fresher compared to the last assisted home he stayed at for 4 years. My encounters with everyone (including the residents) from Bethesda were all positive. My only suggestion is I wish the med techs have a desk with a chair, so they don't have to be on the feet all day. read more

I was genuinely troubled to see the memory care director, Laurin, leave her position. Having worked with her a few months ago, I can say she was an extraordinarily loving, patient, and empathetic leader -- the kind of advocate this facility needs. I don't blame her for leaving at all. What concerns me most is something I witnessed firsthand: while waiting to speak with her, I overheard a conversation between her and the executive director. His tone was belittling, and he spoke about writing up and firing staff in a way that felt dismissive of the people actually doing the caregiving. Given that, it's hardly surprising how many memory care directors have come and gone. It's worrying to think this same leadership will be opening a new, state-of-the-art center -- I have real concerns about whether the culture behind the scenes matches the polish out front. I don't typically write reviews, but after learning Laurin had left and seeing firsthand how unsanitary and rundown the common areas have become, I felt I owed it to other families to speak up. This is memory care -- the residents here are especially vulnerable, and I think that raises the stakes on all of this considerably. read more

My Mom moved in a few months ago and we've been very happy with the care she has received. They are very responsive any time I've had to reach out. Christina was especially wonderful, responded right away and made the whole process very easy. This has been a great option for my Mom. My mom lived at Bethesda Gardens for less than 30 days. I've been torn about writing this review, but would hate for others to be unaware of some things. The facility itself is great. If your loved one is able to live mostly independently, this is great option! During my mother's health care assessment, we were BRUTALLY honest. We did not want to fluff anything as we wanted to make sure she was taken care of. They assured us that they could easily handle her care. A very long story short, this place was severely understaffed. They had 1 person to 40+ residents. The night my mom fell, she was on the floor for an hour before anyone came. Ever since that fall, my mom has completely lost sense of balance and is in a wheelchair. I met several caregivers that were rude and clearly burnt out. A big box facility is great if your loved one can do most things themselves. But do not let them fool you into thinking they can handle more than they actually can. read more

My father was there for around three months he was neglected horribly the place is beautiful but the care is not what it's portrayed to be we picked him up to go visit my sister and he was soiled and drunk so bad his granddaughters didn't want to hug him.he has dementia and forgot to flush the toilet my wife found huge blood clots in his urine he should have been on a UTI protocol that's what had originally laned him in the hospital before we placed him at bethseda.they were aware of this .we took him by Bethesda before taking him to the hospital to speak to a nurse there are no nurses on duty on the weekends now mind you there at least 150 residents.so upon getting him to the hospital he took his cowboy hat off and there was a huge bruise on his forehead where hed obviously fallen we were never notified of this or they probly didnt know because they werent showering him his toenails had gotten so long his toes were bending to the side from wearing his shoes id asked multiple times to have them trimmed i complained about the tech on his floor because when i went to visit she asked me to buy foot powder because she said hes got an odor i said then give him a shower she said shed get to it i shoeered my dad that day he was moved up a floor and two weeks later that same tech was now on his floor he left on the 28 of Sept. I call on the 29 th and said he wouldn't be returning they still took his rent for October spoke with them on the 10 when we realized what happened they said they would refund the money it would take up to 30 days it came and went nothing they wouldn't return my calls so I finally went in person and they had barely filed it on the 31st of Oct said it would be there by the next Thursday its Friday and still not there oh and they sre only giving half back stating we didn't pick up his chair and clothes till the 14th they never called to check on him nothing I am so worried for those thst live thrre that dont jave family to advocate for them i have filed an adult protective services complaint and we are now waiting to here from health department read more

I really don't want to write this review. Nevertheless, here we go.. 1. What I don't know for sure but I have been told by multiple people: They give the illusion of being faith or perhaps church owned. But they are not. 2. Chicken is on the menu FAR too often. This is a recent change and has resulted in lots of complaints. 3. Severely understaffed! The attendants try really hard. But, there is not enough of them to promptly respond to the needs of the guests. I think this issue is getting worse. Overall, it seems excessive penny pinching is having a really bad effect. read more

I have visited the Memory Care unit at Bethesda Gardens multiple times to sing for their residents. All of the residents seem very happy and the staff are great at caring for the residents. This is a great place in Phoenix! I've also heard that the food is excellent! read more

My mother was a resident at Bethesda Gardens for two years. The staff at Bethesda helped us with her journey in every way possible. The head nurse Katie advocated for her during her stay in regards to her many health issues and was always available. Having such great communication was key in keeping mom comfortable and well taken care of. Mom was in Bethesda during the pandemic and Bethesda did everything possible to accommodate the needs of the residents and their families. Being greeted by the same warm faces at the front desk always made my day. Hillary, Karlys, and Vikki were always a pleasure to see. Any needs such as maintenance or transportation were met quickly. As mom's condition worsened it was a relief that Dragana the lead night med tech and floor med techs were checking on her and would call me with any concerns. Bethesda Gardens is assisted living but they went the extra mile in caring for mom and we were blessed that she was able to pass in her apartment at Bethesda with her family at her bedside. Hospice of the Valley was the greatest treasure and they were always there for her. It takes a village to raise a child and it takes a village to care for your aging loved one. My village was Katie and Joy, the ENTIRE staff at Bethesda, Nurse Jodi from Hospice of the Valley, Jenna the Hospice social worker, Kristi her case manager from Mercy Care, all or her med techs and of course my family. My village came to mom, not her to them, and they knew her well and they grieved for her along with us. We wish to thank all of you from the bottom or our hearts. read more

We just moved my mom here and I couldn't be happier! She has been in different care homes and this is the first time she's been at an assisted living community. Dawn, the marketing director has gone out of her way to make my mom feel welcome, answer our many questions, and facilitate her move. Caren, the LPN, did an assessment the same day we visited to expedite her move. Carrie, the med tech on my moms floor has been so kind and patient. We just met Megan today, another med tech, and are looking forward to getting to know her as well. The facility is gorgeous! The meals in the dining room are very good with a good selection. They have many activities for the residents. On site salon and many more. I'm looking forward to a long relationship with the staff at Bethesda Gardens! THANK YOU!! read more

my Mother-in-Law lived in Assisted Living just about two years. What a fantastic Assisted Living location. We have had her in two other facilities PLUS stays in different skilled nursing facilities, and Bethesda Gardens was by far the BEST. The facility, the staff, food, events available were outstanding, and the facility helped the family with whatever we needed for her. Additionally...my Father-in-law lived at Bethesda Gardens Memory Care for three years! Again, I cannot say enough about Bethesda Gardens and their care. My Father-in-Law was diagnosed with Alzhiemers in 2006, and he too was placed in a few other facilities befor we found Bethesda Gardens, and we were so fortunate! Excellent care and concern, Excellent private rooms, staff were more than one could hope for and food/services were fantastic Bethesda Gardens gave so much peace, comfort and lack of worry to our family. What I Learned From Dad's Experience at the Bethesda Gardens Assisted Living Community in Phoenix As the daughter of an aging parent who required daily personal assistance that I could no longer provide, I placed my dad at the Bethesda Gardens Assisted Living Community on Cave Creek Road in Phoenix based on its promotional literature and proximity to my workplace. I was looking for a facility that would meet dad's particular needs 24/7, and treat him with dignity and respect during the challenges that accompany the aging process. Bethesda's mission was theoretically aligned with my goals. In practice, however, those goals were hardly ever met, owing to an operation that was grossly understaffed. Since I spent the majority of my free time with dad, I was privy to the frenzied and demanding pace of staff that were required to work above and beyond their job descriptions at a moment's notice. This situation created an environment that was unstructured, unpredictable, and chaotic. Consequently, my dad's experience at Bethesda was deplorable. For instance, 1) On several occasions my dad was dispensed the wrong medication by staff. He recognized the error and averted a situation that could have been life-threatening. Bethesda's literature states: "Trained staff on our premises 24/7 keeps residents feeling safe and secure." 2) On many occasions when dad's pills needed to be refilled he would wait days until the medication was available to him. This delay in service compromised the continuity required for anti-anxiety and pain pills to be effective. Bethesda's literature states: "Bethesda Gardens meets our residents' needs in a timely and efficient manner. Their comfort and well-being is the reason we exist." 3) Since dad was incontinent and also at risk of falling, his Individualized Care Plan specified a call-button response time between 12 and 15 minutes. He generally waited between 30 and 45 minutes before a caregiver responded. The extended wait to have his incontinence underwear changed caused him burning and soreness, not to mention feelings of humiliation. Bethesda's literature states: "Bethesda Gardens offers comprehensive services that cover the most important needs, and more." "Bethesda Gardens is 'one of the few assisted living communities in Phoenix that goes above and beyond to meet our residents' needs." "With the help of our staff, outside agencies, and volunteers, we are able to deliver the specialized care that is required." 4) Dad needed assistance showering and dressing, as specified in his Individualized Care Plan. However, these activities were sometimes interrupted before they were completed. As a result he would be left in his apartment only partially dressed or naked in the shower until the caregiver returned. Bethesda's literature states: "We are committed to enhancing the physical, social and spiritual well-being of our senior residents." "...committed to 'enriching lives through service' by giving retirees the support they need, each time they need it." 5) Staff that are apparently licensed to address a resident's health issues are not available on weekend evenings. Consequently, if health issues arose during this time frame my options were to leave a telephone message, which would be addressed some time on Monday, or speak with a staff member who was not qualified in the health science area. Bethesda's literature states: "Trained staff on our premises 24/7 keeps residents feeling safe and secure. They know that help is always available. Round-the-clock supervision . . . also give their families complete peace of mind." To summarize, my dad did not "live a life of dignity and joy" at Bethesda and he was certainly not "given the support he needed, each time he needed it." If you are looking for assistance for your loved one, I would recommend that you choose a group home where you will generally find a higher staff-to-resident ratio and quality personal care and attention. Owing to a fall at Bethesda, I relocated dad to a group home in Scottsdale that was extraordinary! It is called 1 Sunrise Seniors Care. Dad received all the services that Bethesda Gardens promised and more. Their tireless effort to create a world for dad that was dignified, compassionate and loving was something that I will always remember. He listened to the music he loved while eating home-cooked meals with his favorite foods from their garden. I know that dad was truly blessed to have been a part of their home, and I am forever grateful. read more

I was very disappointed this evening coming to visit my great aunt for dinner, her server mishell refused to serve her. At first I thought she was confused and thought I would be eating with her(you must buy a meal ticket to eat I didn't need one I wasn't eating) I explained it and she tells me she's already gave her two plates and the chef won't make her more. Sadly that was not so, I had brought her to dinner from her room and been with her since. I ask to talk to her manager and she tells me there isn't one, so I ask the other servers as to whom was in charge and low and behold a "chef" appeared apologized and made her food nearly 2 hours after she arrived in the dinning room 630. What disgusts me and what drives me to file a formal complaint is her table mates say this the usual thing with this specific server and it is lucky that I was there or the server would have verbally accosted her for asking to be fed. I will be looking at finding her alternate care as soon as possible, this is horrible and uncalled for. read more
