The staff have always been friendly and helpful and the residents genuinely love living here. There is a variety of daily activities for those that want to participate, quality food onsite (all meals included), and plenty of additional amenities that help make living here super convenient. It's also a great location just east of Scottsdale on Shea. The apartments themselves are a great size and the entire facility is clean and vibrant. I'm not sure if this will be "home" for the long term for my mom, but it has been perfect for the time being.

Yesterday, I went to visit them and have lunch with them at their facility's restaurant. From the moment I walked in, I marveled at how new and beautiful everything looked. There was even a slight smell of fresh paint to add to the newness. The decor in the lobby was gorgeous and upscale, with high ceilings, inventive light fixtures, and lots of seating. The restaurant offers sit-down service. They have daily specials and a soup of the day. They had a good variety of sandwiches, salads, soups, and desserts for lunch. The brownie was my favorite part of the meal. It was decadent! This facility allows for small pets. There is a dog run area outside. There's also a heated pool and a gorgeous seating area outside with a large television mounted on the wall. My friend showed me the activity schedule. They offer many fitness and enrichment classes, such as art classes in the art studio. There are also bridge, rummikub, and mahjong groups that meet on a regular basis. This facility is not yet at 100% capacity. I would definitely recommend booking a tour if you are in the market for retirement living, assisted living, or memory care.

Covid changed the direction of my life and became the catalyst for my move to Scottsdale, Arizona. My son, who lives in north Phoenix, invited me to come and stay with him and his family for a couple weeks after my bout with Covid. I took him up on the invitation, but little did I know that he had an ulterior motive. He and my other son had seen the effects of Covid on me physically. Consequently, he felt I needed to reassess my life and my future. And that is where my story begins. I came to Andara, not willingly, but with a caveat. I would try Andara for a month and if I was unhappy with my circumstances, I would return to California and continue life there. Well, one month led to another and so on and nearly five years later, I am still here. When I was staying with my son, he brought up the subject of all inclusive Senior communities, that is communities that included food, utilities, housekeeping, internet, television, just about everything that you would incur living on your own plus activities to keep you engaged most of your day and assisted living if need be. We followed that conversation with visits to six communities and frankly I was not taken with any community other than Andara, which we visited twice. What struck me about Andara was its ambiance. It was appointed nicely from the outside, but what made a significant impression on me, was the lobby area adorned with a beautiful chandelier, curved staircases, one on each side of the lobby to the second floor and a huge fireplace that could be seen visually from the lobby into the dining room. It was like a scene from the movie, Titanic. That impression was lasting. There were other features of the community, such as a library, card room, several areas for socialization and so on. The residents and staff were very friendly. The apartment I chose was very nice. After two weeks of considering what was best, I picked Andara. However, not without trepidation and the ability to leave Andara, knowing there was a thirty-day clause allowing for that possibility. Today, almost five years later, Andara is a thriving community and home to Independent residents, Assisted Living residents and Memory Care. Approximately 160 residents call Andara their home. Nestled quietly off Via Linda, just a stone's throw from Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd., it is close to all necessary shopping as well as eateries, banking, doctors, entertainment etc. Yet, its location provides a sense of serenity from the hustle and bustle that is normal everyday living. Residents hail from every part of the United States. They have brought their talents, personalities and heritage to a community where residents are considered number one. Their backgrounds have provided so much to Andara's feeling of openness, acceptance and true fellowship. I can talk about a vibrant activity program that meets the demands of most of our residents. Whether it is a craft activity in the Art studio, playing Poker in the Card room or Mahjong in Bogarts or the Record room, physical fitness classes in the fitness room or gym, Drum fit in the fitness room, water aerobics in the pool, movies in the theater, weekly speakers, religious services, monthly men and women luncheons, board games, puzzles, brunches on special occasions, book club, Happy hour highlighting entertainment for residents, outside events, you name it and we most likely have it. How about the dining room and kitchen! They are open to serve our residents from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM every day with breakfast, lunch or dinner and in between and the food offerings are plentiful. Topping that, we are so fortunate to have a Chef with unparallel experience in the kitchen who is intent on making our dining experience memorable every day. Resident Services are extremely important for our residents, and we are blessed to have a Director of Resident Services who is working hand in hand with residents and through care givers and Med Techs to provide the best level of service for our Assisted living and Memory Care residents. She is driven, focused and very caring. Now, I want to talk about the management team at Andara. The Executive Director of Andara has surrounded herself with a staff of professionals that enjoy what they do and take their responsibilities seriously with care and empathy for all our residents. Like anything in life, Andara is not without its problems. The community is a microcosm of what we all bring to its doors each day. Sure, there will be days of frustration for some, days of sadness for others, days where we wish we were back in our former surroundings, days that seem unsettling, but like I said previously, our residents are our most important asset and that is what keeps me here among other assets. Then we almost lost him due to a medical emergency. That said, Edward and his fantastic team of aids at Serenity stepped up in a big way working with Hospice of the Valley. The staff is small and so is the facility but the rooms are beautiful with private bathrooms and no bedsores on anyone. They cook homemade meals in a large kitchen where they also interact with the residents. Rachel, Avia and Angel are wonderful with the residents, checking on them, engaging with them in a kind way and laughing. If you like a smaller facility with quality care (maximum 10 residents) then this is it. Our father is now off of end of life hospice and onto regular hospice and it speaks to the care and tlc they give. This facility doesn't have the bells and whistles of the bigger ones but it has cleanliness, caring and interaction. The beds are always made, the residents are always clean and it has a sense of family. The views out of the windows are beautiful and there's a lovely terrace with dining and a putting green when the weather is cooler. I've seen a lot of nursing homes, assisted living facilities and community care homes and this is one of the best.

They found Visa Living Senior Care which was just opening and Elizabeth went there to stay. This is a beautiful home in the heart of the Arcadia area which can have ten residents. It is newly remodeled for the needs of an elderly person who just can no longer be home. It has a wide open floor plan that is very accessible and really looks like you are living in a real person's home and not a facility. The furniture and tables are are in warm tones of wood and corresponding colors. It has different areas for different functions and a wide open inviting kitchen area. There is a cage with birds to watch and aquariums. There is also a beautiful backyard with a walking path, putting green, and table where they have lunch when the weather is nice. The landscaping is beautiful. They also have a beauty parlor where the residents can keep up there looks. Does this sound like and group home you have ever heard about. I have never seen one like it. The care for the residents is so right on. The attendants are very loving and caring people. The also have different activities during the day. I've had to deal with assisted living before and I learned that the more you visit, the more attentive the staff will be to your loved one. I really believe that isn't a problem here. My friend has some problems that I don't believed were being followed up by the rehab center. They are doing this here. One more thing that I would like to say that is so exceptional about the Arcadia living branch of this company. The food is really good. I was at a their holiday party today and the food was excellent. What impressed me so much was my friend pointed out the shrimp and several other dishes that they served her during the week! I had a dear friend who was at an assisted living facility for people with Alzheimer's on 38th st and Bell. The food there was so unappetizing as to be pitiful. This is one area where they had found they could cut the budget and they really did. I am not saying a name but you can find a review I did if you care to find it. What a difference! Sad thing to say is that I don't think my friend will ever to come home. I also don't think she will see another Christmas. That may time maybe coming in the following year. So sad. My dad has been living here for about two years now. He is 93. I was very careful before moving him again and we looked at a lot of places. Scottsdale North (SN) came highly recommended by the placement agency we were working with. Simon, the owner of SN, is a saint. He is extremely patient and caring and puts up with a lot from my cranky dad. His care givers are very nice and attentive. Matt, who used to be full-time but is now only there on Saturdays, is the most thoughtful caring person you could imagine. My dad was very lucky to have Matt looking after him. My dad needs to be closely monitored for diet and water consumption due to congestive heart failure. I credit Simon with being the reason my dad is still alive. My dad moans and groans about his diet and water restrictions but he is not ready to die and their care is keeping him alive. He has not been in the hospital for over a year now, which is a record for him in the past 3-4 years. The SN house is like a mansion and is very nice. There are a maximum of ten residents. The food quality is good but there are times that my dad will say he did not like what was being served and skip the meal. My dad complains about the food but he also complains when I used to take him to Fleming's or Houston's. There have only been a few times where I had to ask them to "elevate their game", but I can partially attribute that to the difficulty in dealing with my dad. In those cases they were understanding and responsive. This is a very tough job that requires a huge amount of patience and caring and they do fulfill that requirement well. There are less expensive options but they do not compare to SN. If this place is in your budget range, I can highly recommend it.

We moved my mother into her (apartment) room on September 30th. It became clear immediately that she was the only assisted living resident in the entire place and all other residents were memory care. When touring other communites that offer both memory care and assisted living they are seperate. Memory Care is typically a locked down unit as the residents can become combative. We felt that the marketing material and the presentation was a misrepresentation of their current operating model. We had an in home medical evaluation mom prior to signing a lease. We were asked if she had a dementia or Alzhiemer's diagnosis. I stated no, her diagnosis is malnutriton. We were told that was not a problem as they were both memory care and assisted living. Our mom is bed bound. We were told and it is printed in the handbook that each room is equipped with a bedside emergency call button and a land line phone hook up. NOT TRUE!! the call button is a the entrance and bathroom. There is no phone hook up available!! Mom had many unwanted visitors who wandered in to her room. She had no way to call for help. They touched her belongings, used her bathroom and touched her. She couldn't call for help or reach emergency contacts! DO NOT PLACE A LOVED ONE AT THE AUBERGE. THEY ARE LIARS AND ONLY IN IT FOR THE MONEY. THEY PREY ON THE VULNERABLE.

Maryvilla is one of the few places that actually have 24/7 nurses that makes sure the loved one gets the best possible care - Been going for about a year. There's two dining rooms with gourmet food, great 24/7 security - and there's 24/7 activities that happen there. There is few pianos to play on, a small arcade area, a library. There's a huge living room where residents watch movies and the view from the balcony areas is great during July 4th fireworks in the area. No complaints here, you may see protected wild life like Javelins in the area but thats typical in Scottsdale. This area is also next to Fairmont Princess Hotel so out of state loved ones can visit and stay at walking distance. So this place may be more expensive than most places that just let the residents sit around - I seen interaction with residents with the caring nurses that's been there for many years. A++ place, would highly recommend.
