4.5 stars. Kinda pricey but still a great place to get a tattoo! They will work with your budget. Super friendly and helpful people. Spacious and clean shop. You will have to come in person to make an appointment and have to make a deposit to secure the appointment. I got a pair of scissors on my arm about 4 inches long which came out to be $200. Black ink only but Josh added hints of white to highlight certain parts which was awesome! Josh is very experienced, and I love when artists add their own touch. The tattoo was originally just gonna be flat bold lines, but Josh added shadows and the white ink touches, and the tattoo turned out even better than I imagined!!! Josh is also very speedy; took only 30 minutes, but that means the process was more painful than usual. He's not the most gentle artist and will hammer it out. If it's your first time, he may not be the best artist for you if you are nervous. But I still highly recommend Josh because he's very flexible and talented! read more

After reading so many positive Yelp reviews, I was confident that Bethesda Tattoo would be the perfect place for me to get my second/third ear piercings that I've been wanting but putting off for years. I finally got the nerve up to make an appt, which was a very easy/pleasant online booking experience. There was plenty of weekend availability 1 week out. I also emailed/called in advance to ask if they recommend against using any sort of topical numbing cream beforehand (because I'm a wimp), and Erika called me back to explain the pros/cons (I ended up not using any)--appreciated her taking the time. They then sent email confirmations the day before and a reminder to fill out the consent forms/upload ID stuff ahead of time, so it was a breeze upon arrival. I arrived super early and Erika was able to take me early, which was awesome. She explained the earring options/pricing (though I wish the prices were visible/listed more clearly; you kind of just have to ask) and then went off to sterilize everything which took ~8 minutes. There were plenty of benches/seating for those waiting. She then took me into the private room which was clean and had lots of sanitation items (always good), plus some windows and mirrors. She took her time marking where the piercings would go, and then showed me in the mirror to make sure I was happy with the placement ahead of time (I was). She then showed me the sanitized earrings and explained how they work (they're a bit different from traditional studs). She then had me lay down (definitely a good idea for those who are nervous) and I (by my own choice) closed my eyes so I wouldn't see the needles. She was super friendly and kept the conversation going as she did the piercings so as to distract me, which I appreciated. It really only hurt for a second or two as it was going in; I definitely expected it to be much worse. She was done within 5 minutes and then I was able to open my eyes, and she had done a great job! They were placed exactly where we had discussed and there was no bleeding or anything like that. She was very good at explaining the after-care and making sure I understood what to do to keep them clean/in-tact. Overall, definitely recommend this place for piercings! Erika was great and if I ever wanted a future one, I wouldn't hesitate to go back to her. She clearly knows her stuff and is a true professional. Note that it is NOT cheap as far as piercings go (both the service itself and the earrings added up; I got 4 piercings--2 in each ear--and opted for one of the 'cheapest' earring options they had, plus the small bottle of saline spray they recommend, and it cost $300--eeek), but that wasn't really surprising for downtown Bethesda, and, although it was definitely more than I wanted to spend, I was glad to spend it at a place that did a great job, was super clean and careful, and was friendly/patient (didn't stress me out as a nervous person). read more

When I asked Erika for some guidance, she gave me so much attitude and made me feel stupid for asking any questions and I legitimately hadn't even been thinking for more than 2 minutes. I got my second piercing done on my earlobes by Kai. The salon was really clean and spacious, with couches in the waiting area. There were many earrings to choose from, both 14K gold and medical-grade titanium. There was no wait time at all (I went in the middle of the day on a Wednesday), and Kai took me back to a private room within 10 minutes of arriving. She was super nice and really professional! Although it wasn't my first piercing, it had been a long time since my first one, and Kai made the whole process really easy and simple. She explained the aftercare thoroughly, and recommended that I return in a month for a check-up. The price was very reasonable! I actually paid more for the earring than the actual piercing itself. Perfect place for a first timer. I knew very little about the whole tattoo getting process before going into Bethesda Tattoo Company for my consult. But walking in any hesitation I had went away. The front desk staff is friendly, the place is huge, clean, and just in general, a nice establishment. I met with Tina, who sat down with me for about 3 minutes while I told her what I wanted. She said she could sketch it right then and I could get my tattoo that day. She sketched it out better than I had it imagined in my head. Fast forward 30 minutes and I was tatted up. It hurt like a ... but she warned me it would. Which I really appreciated. Nothing is worse than being lied to about that. She let my friend come in for moral support and was great about answering all my questions regarding the aftercare. Probably because of the location and small size of what I got, the aftercare has been pretty easy. But I was really lucky to not bleed or scab while it healed. Not sure if it has anything to do with the tattoo artist, but hey I'm sure it didn't hurt that she knew what she was doing. The cost, I've been told, was steep, $140. But I'm happy to pay a little more than the usual fee for this level of professionalism (and cleanliness).
