This restaurant does not disappoint! Every single time I have been here, I have left very happy! I HIGHLY recommend!

We went here last Friday night for our friends birthday.,the food was great! The service was average. The only complaint I have is that when the bill came there was a section that said service fee. Okay, it was 55$ so what's this for? I asked a woman inside the restaurant if this was the tip included? she replied"well it's to pay all of our increased salaries and other expenses due to covid. And a bit snarky I might add. I said thank you and went outside. My husband asked our server and she said it was in fact the gratuity and to read the fine print....strange way to handle this. I think anyone would ask what a 55$ service fee was for. read more

Its external walls are masonry veneer, hinting at bank-like reliability. About the dining experience, Bethany's Table's menu is imaginative, its food is absolutely tops, and its service too. We have a group gathering for lunch there after their renovation and new chef. The service is very poor. The food is so salty. I order their famous pasta dish. They dump twice amount sauce on top of tinny portion of pasta. The pasta is overwhelming with all sauce. After my lunch, I am still hungry with such overcharge price. I will NOT go back. Food was fine but the service was terrible. My daughters and I brought my mom here for Mothers Day brunch. The service from the moment we walked in, until we left, was just awful. When we got there, the hostess said we had a table outside. I told her I had a reservation for inside. She said "i don't know. That's what I have." We attempted to sit outside. It was soooo windy. Our papers were flying everywhere (my girls tried to do some coloring while we waited for our server to come). After waiting for 10 minutes without anyone coming to give us water or check on us, I went in and told the host that I would really appreciate it if we could sit inside and that I had proof that we made a reservation for 4 for inside. She hostess says "you don't need to get upset. Let me take a look." I did not raise my voice. I was speaking to her the same way I spoke to her when we first arrived. After we sat inside, it took a while for our waitress to come by. When she did she says "oh I didn't know anyone was sitting back here." When my mom and I asked what the sparkling was (bc the Mother's Day brunch menu included a glass of sparkling or a mimosa), the waitress said "well I know they are using that for the mimosa." So I asked if we could have a glass of Prosecco. She said "again, I know they are using that for the mimosa." Ok... but I'm. It asking about what's in the mimosa. She eventually brought us Prosecco and we asked for a refill of our water and our decaf coffee. We got neither. Then when she brought the check, she finally brought us more water. Like I said earlier, food was fine. But the service was terrible. I felt awful for my mother... the first place we've brought her to in a long time (and for Mother's Day) ended up being a horrible experience. read more

Owners are amazing with a incredible food, great wine list, trained wait staff and the best sourdough bread you will ever eat! OK, it isn't often that I will head out of the city for good food. But I happened to be out there showing condos so I met friends for dinner and wine. The atmosphere is a bit strange, and after driving by it several times (get a better sign people) I was ready to give up. But thanks to my texting (very slow drexting...) and the flares used to guide me in, I made it! Once I stumbled in I settled nicely to a terrific glass of wine. Had the flank steak bites for appetizer and they were killer good! Then on to a Carlton Farms pork chop, nice Frenched bone, thick and tasty topped with onions and apples. But I gotta say, the best thing on my plate was the spiced sweet potatoes! God those were GOOD! I might wash dishes for the recipe, seriously. Bethany's Table take two. We were seated promptly and service was good, but the food - though better than last time - was not quite good enough to take my rating to 4 stars. If they just served their whole wheat bread loaves, I might give 5 stars - wow! good stuff. :) I tried the King Salmon with fennel shavings on a bed of basmati rice. The salmon was moist and flaky, but was underseasoned. The fennel, in a portion almost the size of the fish, overpowered the salmon's flavor. A bit less fennel would have been better. A touch of parsley made for an interesting burst of flavor in some bites. My wife's Oho was bland and needed additional seasoning as well. I think the food at Bethany's Table is decent, but it does not inspire memories. We will probably be back in the future, as it is in our neighborhood, but the restaurant is not going to be in our main rotation. read more

My husband and I both LOVE Bethany's Table. Sunday brunch is great although they don't seem to have brunch hours posted on here. The food is always fresh and local and the menu is always changing depending on what is in season. New specials all the time and we always leave happy! Chef Janet is awesome and very friendly actually unlike some reviews in here. Yes there is an adorable dog that is there sometimes but we have been in about 20 times and only seen him twice. I love it when he is there!!! But I suppose if you don't like dogs then you would have a problem. But he is cute!!!! Great food, lovely environment, fresh flowers on the table, good coffee, delicious fresh squeezed orange juice. Truly a gem in this part of town. Not too many restaurants like this in the area. I've heard good things about Bethany's Table from a couple friends and I came here for dinner on a weeknight. PANTRY BOARD (3 for $5) : We picked these options and all 3 were quite good and I would recommend theme. 1.kale, shaved brussel sprout and rapini salad with a maple-tahini dressing 2.Two types of chorizo from Olympic Provisions 3. phyllo wrapped marinated beef PAELLA FOR TWO ($39): This was a really disappointing dish. The rice was mushy and it tasted like just a tomato based sauce. Paella should have a strong saffron flavor but it didn't have any. In fact I think the rice wasn't even yellow from saffron so maybe they left out that ingredient on accident. Other ingredients were quite standard with calamari, prawns, mussles, clams, chorizo, and sausage. The portions were huge because my two friends and I shared that dish and we still had some leftover to take home. read more

I'm surprised that Bethany's table doesn't have stronger reviews! It has a great atmosphere, fantastic food, tremendous service, and our entire experience was very enjoyable. We were also dinning with a small child and the waiter was very attentive to her needs (apple slices, etc). Some of the fish entrees were also wild caught--a huge plus! Great meal, friendly staff! Loved the chicken marsala, and the butterscotch pudding was to die for. This restaurant was spot on for Portland Dining Month. Some places seem to have decreased portion sizes for the PDX Dining Month special but not here. Will definitely be back. Love the "In Our America..." sign in the window. Update - I am disappointed to see the owner response to one negative Google review I saw. He or she responded with a link to Anthony Bourdain's rant about Yelp reviewers, as a response to in Google review. The first words in the video are "f$ck em", followed by a rant about how bad Yelp reviewers are. Not really professional IMO, and professionalism matters when you run a business. This is my favorite place for a lovely meal, yummy cocktail and great service!! The fact we have such high quality food out here from many quality dining establishments is amazing. Even though I go here often, I rarely write a review because I am enjoying myself so much that I forget. Was just there the other night and had the halibut with multiple types of mushrooms. YUMMY! We had the crab dip. Love that it has more crab than anything else. We did ask for extra crostini. It is really terrific when a place takes service seriously and wants their diners to have a wonderful experience. I could not make up my mind on a cocktail but Janice (server) brainstormed with me. Came in during COVID for to-go food. I was impressed by their safety measures and social distancing. I got the fillet and my wife the bucatini pasta. I've been here before over the years, this was easily my favorite meal I've ever had there - and it was even TO GO! Props to them for holding to their standards even given the unique circumstances. They also threw in some killer home made bread, and some nice butter with sea salt on top. The little touches went a long way. Just tried this place for the first time today and while eating my meal and drinking my glass of wine I texted one auntie and two girlfriends telling each of them how much they'd love this place. I was greeted by probably one of the cutest dogs I'd ever seen, well besides mine of course, and the atmosphere was instantly so welcoming. I ate the polenta and prawns and while writing this review I'm wanting even more of it. I also had their peanut brittle and bourbon pudding for dessert. Went to dinner with 2 good friends Wednesday to dine leisurely and chat. Our server and bus person were lovely and informative and the hostess was attentive. Unfortunately the A/C was not working - evidentially an ongoing issue during the continuing hot spell. We didn't want to leave but it became really uncomfortable. I don't understand why we weren't forewarned. Owners/management most definitely knew it was an issue when they accepted our reservation. It was upsetting to be disappointed like this and I'm horrified that the servers and cooks had to work in these conditions. The food? Good "housemade" burrata appetizer, beautifully presented but the skin was tough. Lovely scallop salad and a generous, very good pork chop, but its hard to truly enjoy good food when you're sweating. We gave up and declined our anticipated desserts because we just couldn't wait to get cool. What a shame. read more

I have came here several times over the years. It used to be a good establishment. But the food is over priced and flavorless! Who has a dog at a restaurant that runs around between kitchen and dining room. I would think that would be a serious health issue? Bar none some of the best steak we've ever eaten. The steak bites are a MUST. I've been here three times with my husband and loved it each time. The service is warm, friendly, and they make you feel like a local each time. Speaking of locals, you can tell that this place is great bc there are always locals and regulars around. My personal favorites have been the lunch time burger (the dinner is a tad too rich for me), the steak bites, and whichever steak is their special or on the menu. Oh and their wine list is delicious too! A great selection by the glass which I truly appreciate since my husband isn't too much of a wine drinker while I love one glass with dinner. Breakfast for two adults and six kids under 10 yrs. & the best playground (Morgan's Run / Pirate Park) this side of Washington Park a five minute drive away = great Saturday AM. There are those weeks in the life of a hubby-daddy-business-dude (HDBD) where you know you've been gone way too much and simply need to give your bride a break. So the rainy Saturday AM rolls in about 6 and you're determined to make it a fun day for the kids and a chill day for the lady. Ahead of the morning chaos you hit the web for all the "what's up & happening". Nothing sounds right so you hit yelp for help for breakfast. Screendoor will be slammed, WaffleWindow is a haul, and the more you look the more you think a long drive is not in the cards for this crew. Reluctantly the search moves west. But there on the edge of the map sits a higher rated spot with 70+ reviews. Pics look decent and the food sounds better than the chains... What the hey. You call up your best buddy / HDBD and tell him his wife needs a break too. Vans loaded, you hit the new place in an onslaught of hungry littles. You're not disappointed. Tasty Polenta Ragu w/ egg, awesome scrambles, chocolate chip pancakes for the kids, good coffee and a very chill atmosphere. Fed, fired up and ready to run, you get the kids to the playground to be crowned "hero" for the hour. Recommendation: do it. read more

Felt like I was treated like a bum. Our waitress gave the customers next to us a huge spiel about specials but did not show us any regard and told us to "look at the menu". Normally we love Bethanys table. Food is always good. Our recent experience was most disappointing. Service was lousy. We saw our server when we ordered then only after our plates clean and glasses long empty. No additional beverages, no "How was your meal?" I hope for better on our once in 2 months date night. Clearly they get enough business now to not care about quality friendly service while charging top dollar. The owner was right there overseeing piss poor service, without a smile. Go somewhere that appreciates customers. We now will find a new date and special occasion restaurant. Bethany"s Table no longer delivers on service. read more

This place provides an all-around comfortable, delicious and satisfying dining experience. We sat outside on a hot day with our child by choice (still trying to avoid large indoor crowds) and the owner went above and beyond making sure we were comfortable by setting up a misting fan that made a big difference. We had our Valentine dinner at Bethany's Table. They had a special prefix menu that was unbelievable! We have believed Janet is a first class chef and that Bethany's Table is an upscale restaurant...but Wow! The meal was 5 courses with options. Their interior is always classy, but for Valentine's Day, they pulled out all the stops. Immediately upon walking in an older blonde waitress informed my friend and I that it is recommended that next time we make a reservation, but that they accepted walk-ins. We were then seated promptly, but waited for a little over 20 minutes with absolutely no one approaching us which may have been understandable had they been busy. However, after looking around it was not even a half occupied restaurant. Furthermore, there had been two couples that arrived after us and they were serviced promptly, about 5 minutes after their arrival. Had ANYONE possibly even acknowledged we were there and said "we'll be with you in a moment" we would have possibly stayed. As waiters continued to pass us back and forth we decided to leave. If walk-ins aren't something that can be accommodated then walks-ins should not be accepted at all. For a restaurant that appears to be upscale we left disappointed. Perhaps the staff are racist or their service is subpar, regardless, will not be returning or recommending. After reading several reviews it seems like bad service is standard practice for this place. read more

Sorry for the "yelp critical" tone David! Should have kept it vague and reached out directly. Unfortunately, your responses put me in the position of needing to set the record straight. Like you, I have a hard time abstaining, but I will be objective and cordial. 1. RE: "wanting attention, nails, hammers, etc." Your choice of metaphor here has an aggressive connotation. Your statement "give you what you want" invokes some combative imagery from a movie to the effect of "you want a fight? I'll give you a fight!" I don't want attention or a fight. I want to help if you want to be helped. 2. "how terrible you found us," Don't put words in my mouth. I had several criticisms. They may have seemed harsh, but my thesis was that the experience mediocre and not appalling. 3. " I'm sorry she disappointed you." Words in mouth again. At no point did I say Brin disappointed us. 4. "Steak paragraph." thanks for taking some ownership here. If your heating surface can consistently duplicate the same temperature, and if you cut the steaks consistently, that you could easily establish guidelines that get even your newest chefs a lot closer to perfection. 5. "Fish paragraph(s)". Lots of variables there. It's always tough when you can't be 100% sure of how a fish was handled on the boat that caught it or between the time of catch and when you received it. Most commercial suppliers will accept fish from multiple boats and no two boats care for their catch in exactly the same way. A 5 day window on one halibut might be delicious whereas it could be terrible on another, even if you guys doing everything exactly the same way. Because of this, I'd recommend that your kitchen manager sacrifices half an ounce before service each day and decides if the fish stays or goes. Regarding me not mentioning it or sending it back, had we not had a gift card, I'm sure I would have. I only sent my wife's steak back because I wanted her to be able to eat some dinner, and there was no quality issue with the meat itself. 6. "She recollects differently" I'm not sure what this means. We each had a bite of the halibut and decided not to have any more. 7. "Angry, unhappy, scary, in pain, or sad, etc.." In your defense, I've been told I look scary before, because I am a broad-shouldered guy with a closely-shaven head and a goatee. As far as "unhappy," perhaps she was picking up on me being tired? I work 5am-5pm, and then help my son with homework and do other various "dad stuff" around the house, so by 7-8pm, I can look pretty tired. It's true, we spoke softly because we were essentially having dinner with the two women sitting next to us because the tables were so close together. Additionally, at some point in our meal, we were all a bit sad/frustrated due to the missteps in the experience. Apart from that caveat, this reads like a political attack in order to win favor. Can you imagine how you'd feel if a yelp reviewer employed these same tactics? For example: "when we got the steak back, I could see and taste the chef's disdain and animosity--the sort that can only come from hating one's job or oneself." To be clear, that's a fake comment to illustrate the unfairness of your presumptions. I can only speak for myself and will not comment on your character, nor that of your staff. In fact, I'd initially considered commenting that your staff didn't seem happy to be at work, but perhaps they were just scared of my anger and sadness, ha! As far as being "in pain," yes, some of the dining experience was painful. My back was a bit sore too. 9. " that just makes you look bad." Response: Probably so! Sorry neighbors! That said, a lot of people I talk to agree that there's not much by way of great food around here. Still, that comment was in that "yelp critical" tone I mentioned, and I agree it was unnecessary. 10. "Imagine how it feels to learn that we have failed so miserably - despite our best efforts - that we should draw such ire" Response: I imagine it wouldn't feel good. I run a business too and if people have issues, I hear them out and try to involve their feedback in improving the experience for all of my clients. "Ire?" "Failed miserably?" No... I didn't say that. At worst, these are more of the same conversational combat tactics described above. At best, these are overly presumptuous emotional responses to issues best addressed with sober logic. If you are capable of shifting gears to sober logic, I will reiterate that I'm still more than willing to speak with you soberly and logically in person or on the phone. I will bring you some salmon and we can eat and discuss and hopefully all come out ahead. I really mean this. Try me. read more

Went here with coworkers for an end of the year gathering. It was in the evening and we all ordered the usual drinks/beers etc. We also ordered some appetizers including: Marcona Almonds, Hummus, Olives, Proscuitto Dates, and Fried Jalapeños. All of the appetizers were pretty tasty and had a good serving size. I think my favorite was the Jalapeños. My main dish I ordered was the New York Steak with vegetables (subbed out the potatoes) and the peppercorn Demi. It was cooked perfectly and the vegetables were also delicious. The service was pretty good as well although we did have a weird incident where the waiter dropped off my drink and a few minutes later another waiter grabbed my drink and took it away. I was later given yet another drink...assume there was an error or they just didn't realize I hadn't even taken a sip. Overall, atmosphere is good and the food is good. Customer service here was also good minus that weird incident. I'd recommend coming back if not to just try out their assortment of appetizers. read more
