I met her at her immaculate studio in Fort Green and fell in love with her immediately. She was super sweet, very supportive, but most importantly, very very calm. It was my first time being a bridesmaid in a VERY important wedding (I'm talking million dollar Great Gatsby type wedding, 1,000 guests being held at a private museum in California). I was going to be surrounded by a bunch of people from high school that I hadn't seen in ages, so in a way it was like the high school reunion I never wanted. It was important that I made a good impression. But, not surprisingly, the bridesmaids dress was hideous and fit me awkwardly. I looked like a seal dressed in a pear costume. I needed this fixed, pronto. The problem was I had to alter the dress without it looking like it had been altered. The bride(zilla) had specifically said that she didn't want anyone to change or alter the dress. When I told Sandra this, she was very understanding and dealt with my neurosis very well. What I liked her her also, was that she was very confident. She told me exactly what needed to be done to make the dress fit my body type and complement my curves and height. She assured me she would be stealthy about the alterations and clean everything up seamlessly so no one would ever know I had changed it. Less than two weeks later I went to go pick up the dress. I slipped the dress on almost in slow motion because I was apprehensive about how the dress would look. The wedding was a week away, so if it didnt work out, I wouldnt have much time to fix it. But ALAS, the dress FIT LIKE A GLOVE and I stood there staring at myself in the mirror, amazed that it was the same dress! I couldn't believe it! Somehow she made it so the dress actually looked flattering! I kept asking her over and over how she did it, and she said she changed the waist line, took in some of the weird puffiness out on the sides etc etc. I was totally flabbergasted and so, so grateful. Now I could go to this wedding confident, not having to feel self conscious in a dress that made me look ridiculous. I just came back from the wedding this weekend. It was a beautiful but ridiculous affair (people spraying 200$ bottles of champaign all over the dance floor, fighter jets flying over the ceremony, opera singers, lots of taxidermy). As I hoped, no one expected a thing. I even got compliments on how cute the dress looked on me, which we all know is rare for a bridesmaid dress. So, point is, go to Sandra with you most delicate, prized wedding designs and dresses. This girl is professional and patient. I loved working with her. If I ever decide to get married, I'm going back to her.

Her prices are extremely reasonable, and being located in midtown - you won't find better prices elsewhere in the area. I had four wedding dress fittings and it was less than $500. My wedding dress had extremely delicate lace and the whole gown needed to be sized down/reconstructed. Sunny walked me through each step of the alteration - pinned me up so I can see what all needs to be done to my wedding dress, showed me what a bustle looks like, pinned the length I wanted with my dress and shoes on, gave me advice on my different veil and jewelry options, and also re-hemmed my dress after I decided to change my wedding shoes last minute. Overall, Sunny put in so much work on my dress - I was thankful to have found her! Other places can easily quote double the price. This is a very small place/no frills - you'll be putting on clothes to be tailored in a corner with a curtain of an open room, but Sunny knows exactly what she is doing with each fitting being quick and efficient. Her office space is in Gowanus so pretty easy to get to and if you drive, there are usually a couple parking spots in front. She comes down to open the door and bring you up to the studio and then you take off your shoes upon entering. She always had a great playlist going which I hum or sing to. She has a great mirror to showcase your dress and showed me both style options for a bustle. I had her add an American bustle and take in the straps a bit and because my wedding was a month away, we scheduled a follow up appointment two weeks out. She color coded the bustle to make it super easy and we had one more try on. With the deposit, it was about $300 total which is on par with what I had done. She tailors other women's clothes as well so I have a feeling I'll be coming back for all my tailoring needs. She does not tailor menswear.

I asked to stop the alterations because I could not afford to move forward. Susan said no problem and that the hem was done. When I picked up my dress, the hem was not finished, only the inner layers of the dress had been hemmed and they'd been hemmed WRONG! They were ascending rather than descending. This incorrect hem cost me $750 (1/2 of the total which is very high pricing!) but because I did not have an itemized receipt (though I asked for one) that price shocked me. The top layer was the shortest and they got longer from there so they were ascending rather than descending which is not how I brought the dress in or how wedding dresses are supposed to be hemmed. I called Susan, assuming it had to be a mistake, but she refused to fix her mistake. I found a seamstress to complete all alterations for 1/8 of the price. Susan had google remove my review threatening to sue me for defamation and extortion but I don't want her money, nor did I ever threaten her or lie. I just don't want others to have the experience I had. Google is biased and sides with business often. Customer service is all I ever asked for and wanted, a simple apology, any kind of offer to adjust the incorrect hem would have been more than enough.

When I finally got them she was confused why I was there, and after I took the pants to another tailor I realized she had actually stolen a pair of my slacks. Long version: I called a few places looking for a tailor to repair holes in the crotches of my jeans and a pair of dress pants. One pair of jeans needed to be hemmed. I wanted to make sure that she was actually there for me to drop them off, so I had to call her three times before she picked up. When she finally did pick up, she was practically yelling over me the entire time, to the point where I couldn't even explain why I was calling. Nonetheless, because she was so close, I figured I would risk it. I dropped off the pants that afternoon, explained everything to her, and she said she would get to it next week. I told her she could take as much as two weeks but after that I would need them. So a week goes by, I give her a call, again she's belligerent and angry for the simple fact that I guess she had to pick up the phone. What should be a two-minute phone call turns into nearly 10 minutes while she's giving me excuses as to why she has not even begun work on my pants. So I ask her if she needs another week, she eventually says yes, and I thought that was it. Two more weeks go by, I give her another call because clearly she hasn't called me. Again, she's confused and angry as to why I'm calling because I guess everybody just walks in on her? Anyways, again she has not done the work, again she's making all sorts of excuses as to being busy with other work, and I asked her how that was my problem. No response. More arguing. She tells me she can do it again by the end of the week or next week. I say okay, and hang up. Two more weeks go by because I'm busy with work and whatnot, and then I remember that I still have pants at the tailors. I give her yet another call, of course she picks up angry and confused, and she tells me that she can't have it, you guessed it, until next week because she's busy. I tell her that's absolutely ridiculous, she doesn't seem fazed. I tell her that that's absolutely unacceptable and reiterate all the things that she said to me, and how I'm supposed to have these pants 4 weeks ago. Again, all she does is argue, so I decided right there I was just going to go and pick them up. When I arrived that afternoon, she seemed surprised to see me, and I did all I could to not scream profanities at this woman. I felt like I was trying to get a mule to do calculus. Regardless I get my bag of pants, and I turn to leave, and then she asked me to sign some paper just in case "someone comes to pick them up". What? Who is going to pick up my pants except me? Furthermore, who even knows these are here after almost 6 weeks? I smiled, told her she had wasted enough of my time, and left while she was still muttering about signing the paper. A couple 3 days later I took them to a much better tailor closer to my work, and came to find out that she had stolen a pair of my pants. So I cannot speak about her craftsmanship, because after almost 6 weeks I had no evidence of it. I can tell you that this is about the worst customer service I have ever received from anyone, anywhere. She charges relatively inexpensive prices, but apparently won't work on anything that isn't going to be a more expensive job. I think it's time to hang up your sewing machine grandma. I'd like all the time you wasted of mine back.
