Never spend your money here!! Ever!! Wanted a "real" cowgirl hat, so my sweet hubby bought me a gift certificate to surprise me. Walked in to a nearly empty store soon after they opened & was ask what I needed almost immediately by a kind sales person.Was thinking it was going to be a nice experience!! Could not have been more wrong. The sales person directed me to "Lance", who was helping another person when I came in. Lance asked my name & then said it wrong, so seeing his hearing aids I corrected him. Big mistake!!!!! He was such a jerk from that moment on I should have left. But it was a gift & I already knew my husband would be disappointed if I left. After Lance showed me a $1,000 hat & I told him I was not in the market for one in that price point he smirked & said, " well I didn't think you were". So I pointed to one I thought I'd like to try on. He then decided to lecture me on color. I'm a retired interior decorator, so I told him that. He immediately walked me to the front of the store to show me he opened it 50 years ago, even though he was a criminal attorney!!! What the what? Then he was angry because I told him I had seen a video about how the hats were formed with steam, which he specialized in. Bad choice. He then ignored me & waited on 4 men while I was standing there. He kept telling those men I knew everything & he was such a nasty, rude, angry old piece of skin, while thinking he was being funny. I spoke to all of them at one point & said "this guy is a real jerk". They all agreed. But one let me know that he is really good at fitting hats. Before I left I told the sales person that people like old Lance just need to not be in public & that person also agreed with me, but told me Lances schedule so I could avoid him if I ever came back. Lance, you're a miserable, angry old man who thinks a little western store is a special place, but I found the exact hat on Amazon!!! Guess what, it wasn't any more that you charged me for it, even though you told me you should have charged me more!!!! I was hoping you would read this & remember how you treated me, but I'm certain that you have no idea about the internet, since absolutely everything you do is written & in carbon copies!!! Lots of boots & hates. Horrible owner. Don't shop there when you can buy everything elsewhere. But do go & try stuff on, then put it back in the wrong place. I don't usually leave reviews but my experience was horrible and I feel the need to do this. I visited the store on March 21st to look for a hat and some boots for my family and I. I was greeted fine by one of the employees, who was assisting me in finding the hat. However, the owner kept asking me to move out of his way. He asked me to move twice as he was trying to help his own customer find a hat(keep in mind, I was also a customer). After being asked to move twice, he made a comment about how I wasn't holding the hat properly and told me to follow the employee who was assisting me. Throughout my time in the store, I felt like the owner was trying to bully/discriminate me. Eventually, I decided to let him know how disrespected and unwelcome I felt with his comments. Surprisingly, he completely disregarded my concerns and made it clear that his hats were expensive and that he didn't need my business as he said "adios" to me (he's white and i'm Hispanic). I felt disrespected, unwelcome, and discriminated against so I did not buy anything. If you're willing to tolerate the owner's poor attitude, come to this store. read more

Great selection of boots and quick service. I bought a pair of Dan Post boots for my bf and they ended up being slightly too small. We went back to exchange sizes and had no issues. Upon reading the other reviews I didn't experience any sort of rude interactions with the staff and I definitely don't appear as the "cowboy type". My 91-year-old father, a true cowboy, and I went into this shop to pick up some new shirts. It's a beautiful store with a wide selection of Western wear. However, our experience was completely ruined by the owner's attitude.My father had his cowboy hat with him--a hat he's worn for years with pride. A woman in the shop offered to clean it, but when we got it back, it had a horrible stain that wasn't there before. We brought this up to the owner, hoping for a resolution. Instead of taking responsibility or even showing some empathy, the owner outright refuted how the hat got ruined and treated us with such disrespect.It's heartbreaking to see my dad, who deserves nothing but respect, treated so poorly. I left the shop disappointed and frustrated. Despite the beautiful store, the owner's behavior was absolutely unacceptable. Good selection but... The owner in there is just straight up rude. Last visit we bought boots l, just to escape. They weren't perfect but it was better than being practically forced to try more on. This time we went for a hat and skipped out as soon as he decided what hats we should be trying, how and in what order. He was straight up rude to my daughters. Went out of my way to find this store and was very disappointed. I was asking questions, trying to get information about cleaning, steaming and possible repairs to my beloved, 30 year old cowboy hat. After initially being helpful and informative they suddenly began to stonewall and pressure me to buy a new hat. This in spite of informing them I was very fond and attached to my old hat. They wouldn't provide actual services so I asked if they knew who could. The more we talked the more they pushed buying a new hat. I bought boots from them a couple years ago. I wear size 14 with a wide foot. The only width that they carry is B. Of course, they didn't fit. I wore them a couple of times but not for long because of the pain. I talked to the owner and he suggested to bring them in and have them stretched. I took them in today and got a very uninterested response by the salesman. I will never step foot in that store , No wonder there were no other customers . Buyer beware about this no refund policy, especially when the staff make misrepresentations about allowing refunds. Beware - No returns allowed, exchanges or in-store credit only! The staff is also extremely rude. It's very obvious the only people they want here are middle to upper white class folks that look like they just walked off a farm. The staff here is incredibly RUDE unless you fit their cookie cutter cowboy/cowgirl demographic. My husband stumbled upon this shop while on one of his jobs. We are about to attend Watershed and I needed a new cowgirl hat because I trashed my other one last year. From the time he walked in they were rude to him. He cleans windows for a living so he wasn't the cleanest but he was ready to drop some money. Instead of treating him like a paying customer the staff followed him around the store like he was going to steal something. The employees are also very ANAL about "hat etiquette". Every time my Husband would pick up or put down a hat they would scold him and tell him he's doing it wrong, and that he was being disrespectful. My Husband and I could give a fu** less about "hat etiquette". I'm going to spend the entire weekend wasted in a bikini trashing this hat. My husband went to this store twice. They treated him like an idiot/hobo both times. The first hat he picked out I wasn't a big fan of. After hearing about his experience I just wanted to return the hat. He went back the second time and could NOT return the hat because they don't do returns. So.... I had to get one of their hats. This time my husband Facetimed me so I could pick it myself. I made a point of visiting this store while in the area at an RV resort near by. As I tried on hats the owner of the shop first "schooled" me on the proper way of handling western hats in a disdainful manner. Then when he asked if I knew what size I wore, I said " 7 1/8. He said that I was probably a 7. Every hat I own that fits ( I own 4) is 7 1/8. I ignored his remark and as I worked my way to a display of more hats, he loudly and rudely, scolded me about walking into an employee only aisle. He pointed out some words stenciled on the floor, that I failed to see. What a great place for a sign....if my feet had eyes in my soles! The woman at the cash register rolled her eyes in sympathy when informed of his rudeness. She remarked, " That's the owner". Pretty standard western wear and tack store. Came in here with the wife to purchase some western shirts as a birthday present for my father-in-law. Has a wide selection of western wear, hats, boots, and tack. Per the standard in retail Western Wear, has nothing over 2XL, except two 3XL shirts I saw on a clearance rack. I've got two foot wide shoulders, so that doesn't work for me. The people were pleasant enough, and tried to be helpful, but I think they didn't know what do do with us. We weren't decked out all country, but rather in typical northwest casual. The funny bit is that I'm from Austin, TX. I do my own leatherworking, have worked on a ranch, and know the business end of just about anything. In any event, we bought a couple shirts and left quickly, mainly because it all felt a bit awkward. read more

I have been to Beth West's many times over several years. I've always found the service, and selection excellent; not only for hats, and boots; but, also for jeans, shirts, coats/jackets, belts, and even Western bling. Lance, the owner/manager, is a highly knowledgeable person. He knows what he's talking about when it comes to horses, cattle, and Western gear. His skill at fitting boots, and hats is obvious to any observant customer who has worked with him. I have purchased several shirts, a duster, at least two hats; and multiple pairs boots, and jeans. I've never had problems with customer service; or, with returns. Just remember to keep the receipt, and make the return within the stated number of days, and in a near new condition. I recall this information was posted at the check out register. To address those people who felt they were being "stalked" by staff, there are two main reasons for this, one is loss prevention. While you, the offended customer, have not come into the store with larceny in your heart there are people who do. This is an unpleasant reality faced by all retail businesses that have easily portable, and concealable merchandise. The other reason is to see how customers are doing in their searches for what they want or need. To people who feel ignored in this, or any store, remember if you want assistance speak up, in a polite way. To sum up, Beth West's is an excellent store, with very good quality products, and a very good staff. read more

This is the only Western Store I go to! Lance and this staff are absolutely amazing. They treat you like family once you walk into the store. Lance and his staff are very knowledgeable about everything in there store. If they don't have what you are looking for, they can order it for you. I have bough many hats, boots and clothing from here because they have a very good and large selection to choose from. Everything here is reasonably price as well! Went there a couple days ago with my wife for my first ever pair of western boots. As soon as we walked in, we were instantly hit with the wonderful smell of leather and the sight of more boots than I could comprehend. Lance acknowledged me and told me to take a look around. After looking around for a few minutes, I approached Lance and told him it was my first time and a bit overwhelming, he chuckled and said he loved watching newcomers come in and liked for them to see what they liked off the bat. He went to the side with me and looked at my foot size, immediately found a pair of boots and they were perfect sizing, but a little too much for me in terms of styling. After that, he found a pair of Abilene's and had me give them a go. They were perfect off the bat. After walking around in them a bit, he came back and showed me a dressier pair that were more my style, and had me try them on. I instantly fell in love with them. Lance and I spoke for quite some time, and he gave me all his attention, which was very appreciated since I was so new to everything. After talking with him and my wife, he gave me a killer deal on both boots that we couldn't refuse. I left that day with two pairs of boots, a more casual pair and dress pair, and I could not be happier. Lance was a god-send as fair as customer service, knowledge, and just an all around great guy to talk with. The female also talked with my wife while Lance and I talked about boots, which both she and I appreciated, and she was so kind to both of us. I couldn't recommend anywhere better to find a first pair of boots. They make you feel like family as soon as you walk in, and won't let you leave until you're 110% happy with everything presented. Edit: Almost a year later and wanted to give an update. The boots have fantastically aged over the last year. My casual pair I've worn almost every day for at least a couple hours and I get compliments on and they're so damn comfortable to this day. My dress pair I wear with grey slacks consistently at the office and am continually complimented on. Seriously people, go to Lance. He will make everything work for you. Buyer for life! read more

The owner of Beth West Western was an absolute DICK to my husband and myself. We simply asked to try on a pair of boots that were pretty expensive and instead of grabbing the size we asked, he said "most people look at these boots and then see the price tag". I said we know the price. He then refuses to check for what we asked. He proceeded to raise his voice and speak very inappropriately to us as customers. Saying, "I've been fitting boots for 45yrs, WHAT WERE YOU DOING 45 years ago?!?" being pretty threatening and disrespectful. He proceeded to take a box of boots out of my hands that my husband was about to try on. ...not sure why...? All we wanted was to buy a really nice pair of boots but now we will never return to this place of business because the owner is the biggest jackass I've ever met in my life. read more

I write this review with a heavy heart. My husband and I have shopped here numerous times over the years and have had great experiences, that is, up until recently. Last March we had gone in and were offered a "Buy 2/ Get one Free" promotion. I selected one pair of jeans in my size that fit so perfectly I opted to take advantage of the promotion & paid for and ordered 2 pair of the exact same style & size of these jeans. (Unfortunately they didn't have them in stock.) This was at the later part of last March.. I finally get a call in July saying my order is in. I don't get up that way often and waited until the first part of September to pick up my order. When my order was delivered to me at the counter it was only one pair of jeans (not 2) and a completely different style than what I had ordered. I explained that this was not what I ordered and handed them my copy of my receipt. I was told that the exact order was no longer available and they had been discontinued. The person who seemed to be in charge also went on to tell me that they will not issue refunds but I could have a store credit. At this point I was considering it .. however it seemed as if she was really pushing me to accept the jeans that I did not order. The biggest issue for me was I did not care for the pattern on the back pockets AT ALL. I explained this several times in a few different ways one being: "I am not interested in drawing attention to that part of my anatomy" and she went on to comment: "that with my size I shouldn't be too worried about that.. ". Wait.. what?!?!!! Pardon Me?!? Needless to say after some hesitation she reluctantly issued me a handwritten check as a refund. I still have not decided if I will return .. Well, I'll admit I was a little hesitant to visit this place because of the one star review but had some time to kill so I checked it out and I'm glad I did. I came because I'd tried on some Boulet Boots in Canada and was ready to buy my first pair of Cowboy Boots since I was three years old. My wife was with me and she wanted to try some boots on too. When I walked in, the place was well organized and had a huge selection of cowboy boots. The salespeople were great, not too pushy but willing to answer any questions we had and we both had a good number of them. We wanted to know how the boots were supposed to fit and what size to start with (go up a half size from your normal shoe size apparently). It was tough to find Boulet boots both because they have way more Tony Llama, Justin, Nocona and because they organize boots by size alone. After some digging, I found an awesome pair. The prices were what I'd expected from my research online and they even had a section with cheaper options that might have been slightly used. Of course you can find cheaper online but for buying boots, I wouldn't even try because the fit of the boots are so different. Also, I don't think they are that different as far as price (I looked up the boots I bought when I got home and I had bought them for the price I found them online). A nice bonus was that when I was trying a boot on, the saleslady even noticed that the rubber soles on the leather boots I was wearing had worn down (I never saw that before) and recommended a cobbler that was nearby. Overall, a great place, though I'd love to see them organize by brand and have a little wider selection of Boulet. read more

I love going to Beth West Western store in Clearview. Every time I go here the workers are smiling and so friendly. I've even been personally helped by the owner on a couple of visits. It's very nice to have this kind of service in a local company so close to home. I have purchased two pairs of boots so far and nearly a dozen pairs of gloves over the last three years. I have to say their service is top notch and every time I go there somebody says hello when I walk into the door and the employees will leave a conversation to walk over and help me out which is nice. I was shopping at the Gift Horse Saddlery after purchasing my first horse in 20 years. While I had most of the gear (both English and Western), I still had some items needed. One in particular needed that the Gift Horse Saddlery didn't have was a Western Saddle Pad. They had recommended Beth West. My first experience purchasing the pad was pleasant. The young lady that helped me was very nice, though she didn't quite understand pricing. Since we were trying the new horse in Western, I didn't want to spend too much on a pad that could end up not getting used at all. She was looking at all the prices in the same way we were, as if she wasn't aware at how much the different pads cost. I also asked about bridles, and bits. Again, she didn't quite grasp how much the different brands and styles were, the difference between them, or have any real recommendation for quality and value. The second time I brought my son (15) to purchase boots and Wrangler jeans to ride in. My budget for boots was $60-$80 (max) and was hoping for a versatile boot he could wear casually to get more use out of than just around the horses (like a work boot with good heels). The young lady (similar age, but different girl) that helped was very similar to the last one. She didn't quite understand different brands, quality, and definitely not price. she would pull boots off the shelf and have him try them on, then look at the price. We ended up with a pair that was $130 - well out of the max price point. She said there was nothing there under $60 - though I was able to find a few. After frustration set in, we walked over to jeans and began to look. She saw us wandering looking through every pair for 28/26 or 28/28 for my son. He's skinny and has short legs... We eventually found one pair of black jeans in the kids section that were the largest. They are a bit short on him, but he can make them work. Pricing was fair at just under $45. Overall, I am happy with the selection, and the service the girls provide is good. However pricing is way too high, and the education on products is minimal at best. I can't shake the feeling that they hire young girls who's parents still pay for their horses care and supplies that have no concept of the cost and products available. I was once one of those young girls working in a western wear shop in Redmond just over 20 years ago, though I bought my own gear, and I understood what Circle Y meant and the difference between paying $100 for boots vs. $50. read more

Stopped in there almost at closing a few weeks ago lookin' for some formal attire, maybe a new pair of boots. Got all that n' spades! Peggy helped out with gettin' the fit of the pants and suit jacket, with some pointers from Dave, and Lance, the owner hisself, fitted me in some nice black Tony Lama's! Pissed off just enough that I downloaded the Yelp app to post this review: BUYER BEWARE: While they may have the best selection of Western attire in the area, their business principles and practices leave much to be desired. When i went to return an unworn pair of boots that didn't fit right, they notified me that they only do store credit or exchange. This would've been fine, however, when i suggested that they may want to make new customers aware of this, one lady rudely exclaimed "that's why we're still in business". The other lady pointed to the bottom of my receipt where it says store credit or exchange only, acting as if they had done their part. Unfortunately, this is only telling people after the fact!!! You've already got my money by the time i have a chance to read this, so it doesn't help. Typically, I'm all about supporting small businesses, but F this place. Go there to try on boots and figure out what you like, then buy online. There are plenty of online boot retailers with much better customer service. read more

Selection of western wear is pretty good: not great but solid. It's quite expensive, though. And there are no refunds. Plus the only way I can find that you're notified of the no refund policy is on your receipt, after you've made your purchase! So patient and working directly with my girls rather than talking over their heads to mom and dad. If I could rate this place lower, I would. I'm a young person and I really don't look the part, I'm not their usual type of customer but they have some niche items that I use for caring for my boot leathers. The first time I went here for some saddle soap I was promptly followed by one of the employees to an area of the store that was out of their view as she sprang out asking me "what I was looking for." I believe I was judged by how I look and my age to be stealing. However, I ignored it, and gave this place another chance just a few days ago because I've been in the market for a good oilskin hat for backpacking. I purchased the hat in XL, I have a large head and unfortunately it was just too small and the material had no give. I called an asked if they had an XXL version of the hat, turns out they didn't have one, so I was told I could return the hat. I called again a few days later because I misplaced the receipt, they were nice enough to allow me to return it without the receipt. So, after a 45 min drive I came to the counter and as I was thanking the manager for allowing me to return it, guess what - they don't take returns... for anything. The manager was abrupt in telling me this and truly rude in the way she explained the "store policy". I told her that two people on the phone had said I could return it, to which she replied I could "return" it, but only for store credit. I ended up having to blow $60 on a bunch of junk I didn't need (anyone want a bunch of bandanas?) and I explained my frustration with the situation. Apparently they felt they had no responsibility to let me know durning our two phone conversations that "return" really meant "we are selling to you no matter what." This place has 1000's items from a $3.49 bandana to $350 boots and none of it is returnable, even if the item is flawed or damaged before you bought it. But hey, If opinionated retorts from rude and bias staff and some un-returnable items are your thing, have at it. I'll be taking my money elsewhere. read more

My daughter wanted boots for her birthday and Beth West was recommended by a "horsey" friend. Not being "horsey people" we were a bit overwhelmed when we walked into the store. This is where they earned their five stars. Two sales gals helped my daughter. Because she didn't really know what she wanted, they really had to start from scratch, but they both stuck with her, narrowed down what she liked and didn't like, and she walked out with a beautiful pair of boots. read more

The other day I went over to Beth West because I needed to buy a new pair of riding boots and was looking into also purchasing a saddle. I got there and initially looked around at first but when it came time to needing help no one was available. I waited about 15mins before someone could help and that person who helped me only did so for about 2 mins then left me to go help someone else. Never came back to ask if I needed anything else and was left trying to figure out what boots I could try. Despite their HUGE assortment of boots they supposedly had none my size. It was at this point and 25 mins later that I said screw this and left. I will never shop here again. Ended up going to Stoney Creek in Monroe to get my boots. read more

They have a guy they call the size guy or something who helped me find a pair of boots that fit perfectly. If I would've bought them online I wouldn't have been happy. I went there earlier and when I came out I said to myself "Gosh, I need to write a good review for this establishment". I just now remembered to do that. I can't say anything truly bad about this place. The staff is extremely helpful and quite knowledgable when it comes to this kind of stuff. I bought some boots that fit absolutely wonderfully and will definitely be going back for any future purchases (probably some shirts). There was an elderly gentlemen that helped me out and I can't remember his name which I wish I remembered, but he sure was knowledgable and funny. Every step of the way he was there to help with any questions. He told us what to look for when getting boots and I have to say I'm extremely grateful. If anyone from the store is reading this and you know who I'm talking about, please pass on to him that he got another customer for a long time. Truly a great place. The price may make some wary, but at that point your going to be in the the really high end area. Many (I'll say all) of their boots are very reasonably priced and a lot of the product is made (some being handmade, although then you might be getting into the higher end side of things) in the USA. You can't get better than that. Once again, it is a great place and I can't tell you how happy I am to find a store like this. 100% deserving of more 5-star reviews. Wonderful place. Oh, and if anyone has big feet like me (15ish) then I'm happy to report they go up quite high in sizes. I think they carry up to 17 but I'm not sure. Just another reason as to love this place. I came here with my girlfriend to get her first pair of boots. I felt welcomed immediatley and comfortable. She browsed the great selection of boots as i did the same of the hats. Lance was awesom, and fitted me up with a nice light weight hat and shaped it up to my liking (and boy is he good at it). I was very pleased with the selection of everything and i ended uo buying some clothes aswell. Great customer service aswell, however the man helping my partner was a little too gung-ho, constantly bringing her boots she didnt like. Which she found somewhat annoying, But over all the effort was respected. Deffinatley will return Great selection, good customer service, great prices. read more
