My family and I have been going there so many years that I've lost track. You don't have to have foot issues to shop there; you may just enjoy quality shoes. My husband has normally sized feet, but he's diabetic so great care has to go into his shoe and sock selection. They are able to bill his insurance. My son and I have extraordinarily wide feet, high arches, and narrow heels. Although it takes a while for my son and I to get our "special" shoes, the staff takes great care to make sure we are comfortable with our choices. Many of our shoes can repaired over time as well. We also have our orthotics made and maintained there. I was into my 40's before I could find women's shoes that fit, thanks to Althea. They are no more expensive than any other QUALITY shoe, but they last much longer. Highly recommend. read more

I requested a pair of NOAT sandals called Amandova , from the Lakewood store, on April 21st in person at Althea's store in Everett. I called today to check on their status. They said they placed an order for them, from the company, on August 28th! A WEEK after I requested them. That was not what I was told originally nor was I contacted by the salesman saying it would take 2-3 weeks to get them in. I had originally tried on a pair of Navy for sizing because I wanted a brown pair which I was told the Lakewood store had in stock . I told the salesman I wanted them for my vacation that was on May 11th. So why would I request them to come to my house when I'm out of the country at that time! ARGH!!!! So misleading! So after having three boys my legs get very sore and hurt the doctor says I have inflammation so they said to wear compression tights! When I moved to Everett I started using altheas and they are great! If I could give 50 stars I would. I came to Althea's last Saturday . I've had planter fasciitis for many many years. And I broke my right ankle in 3 pieces about 5 months ago and I'm still in a walking boot and doing Physical therapy. I hobbled in to Althea's in my boot and immediately had the most kind and knowledgeable associate help me. She was very patient and kind throughout my visit while giving me lots of knowledge. She also helped me try on a few different styles and brands. Everyone in the store seemed friendly. Went to Althea's with a friend who was looking for a good pair of walking shoes. I avoided this place for years even if my insurance offered up to 6 pairs a year. I always thought the shoes they offer would be good for your feet, but not beautiful for your feet. Well, I was not completely right about that. They do offer the not so beautiful shoes, but they also have good looking ones! They carry Hoka (cute walking shoes); Dansko, Taos and Birkenstock to name a few. Sales staff are friendly and helpful. I would suggest coming in on a weekday because they were busy that Sunday we came in. Since this is a specialty shoe store, don't expect to be in and out like normal stores. Customers take their time fitting shoes and you can spend a good time waiting to be served next. read more

This review has more to do with the brand of shoe instead of the store (although I have shopped here before with good service). I was in Palm Springs and thought I would try on a pair of Hoka shoes. They were more for hiking that walking, but the moment I put them on and tried them I was sold on them. They have been the most comfortable shoes I have had in years. They also seem to have the motion control I need for my pronation. They have lasted about 15 months (most other shoes lose their "springiness" and motion control in about six months. I have had other people ask me when I work out what kind of shoes I'm wearing and I tell them, HOKA, and the next time I see them they say they're the best shoes they ever wore. BTW, a few months after buying them we took a trip through the SW and went to Zion NatPark, Bryce Canyon, Arches and the Grand Canyon and they helped my so much! I took my aunt and mother here as both of them suffer from plantar fasciitis and they needed shoes for walking and wearing around the house. The staff were incredibly helpful and patient with all three of us. My aunt left with 4 pairs of shoes and my mother and I each left with a pair. I like this store but have had my share of issues. My first visit I was told that I was limited to certain shoes because they needed to have a thick enough sole to fit my orthopedic inserts in. So I settled for shoes that I don't like because of this... well one pair out of the two work fine with my inserts and this pair is nice & lightweight so I like them for that reason. The other pair I had to order out for. I do not like this pair at all and if I were to put my inserts in I'd have to literally rip out the current inserts (which would likely destroy the shoes or at least it's original inserts) because they are not removable at all; and yet I was talked into buying these shoes by the salesman because "they will work with inserts". I hate this pair as they get really hot and I don't even wear them. The second time I went to the store, a couple months later, a couple of sales women working there helped me out. They were awesome and let me pick any shoes as long as they were hard soled (the only requirement of my insurance). I got two pairs of boots. Both those boots I love, one being the most comfortable pair of footwear I've ever worn! The third time I went in, I was told I couldn't order the boots I really wanted (the exact same pairs I had gotten previously because neither of their stores had my size in black. So I settled for boots that work ok but I don't really like. I did t even bother getting a second pair. I just tried making an appointment for footwear for my current insurance quarter-- and they tried to say that A) I had already bought a pair of shoes this quarter (which is not true, had not been there since Winter), and B) that my prescription was for 2 pairs overall for quarters 1 & 2. I know this isn't true based on previous conversations with Althea's staff... because A) prescription cannot be written for combined quarters, and B) my Dr has always written my prescriptions for 2 pairs because he knows what I get through my insurance. One think I dislike about a business is when things are inconsistent, and nothing about my experiences here have been consistent. I wish that wasn't true because some of their products there are awesome -- and a few of their sales women are amazing -- but I dread going there because I never know what experience I'll get. read more

Went in with a referral from my doctor. Assuming insurance covered it all. The cost was never discussed and the orthopedic insoles actually make my feet but more. I got a bill from them for over $350 thinking it was just a "this is the price, but insurance covered it" and thought nothing of it cause again cost was NEVER discussed.... And then I got a "second notice to pay"..... the customer service was awful and attitude was high.... There was a kid about 5-7 running around that belonged to the lady helping me and she kept yell at him.... It was an awful experience and I'll go elsewhere from now on. read more

This store sells Hoka shoes which are very expensive. However you have to go through Hoka if there is a manufacturer defect. Hoka's warranty is a lie and a hoax. Hoka is a horrible company that goes not stand behind their product. Althea's should not be selling Hoka's to anyone. Althea's has our $ therefore Hoka has our money but we have no shoes. No replacement due to defect and no return to us of the defective shoes. read more

Skip the podiatrist and come here. I have a fused ankle and needed special orthotics but couldn't afford custom ones out of pocket. Tessa listened to the issues I was having and helped construct the perfect over the counter orthotic for me and I instantly feel so much better. The cost was about 70$ as opposed to the hundreds of dollars a custom orthotic costs. I'm kicking myself for not just going here first instead of paying the bill to see a podiatrist who just sent me to them anyways. read more

I was suffering from Planter Facia. Being a guy I left it alone and just hoped it would go away on its own...It didn't. I was in the shoe biz for a number of years and there was no way I was going buy orthopedic ugly shoes. I went to Althea's and and it was a "Feet Changing" experience. The service I got was amazing, they first looked at how I walked, then measured both of my feet( Nobody does that) and then they fit me in very stylish comfortable shoes.. I have since been back and got my shoes in every color and new walking/running shoes. Great looking very comfortable shoes are a thing, finally!!!! I would highly recommend Althea's to Everybody... I always thought this place only does custom footwear, but they don't they have a great selection of functional supportive shoes. I am a person who hates shopping and people near my feet, but here shipping here was an awesome experience. I worked with Curt and he could tell when shoes worked for me and when they didn't before I said something. Also I liked their was no pressure to up sell and Curt was honest about where I could find more options in the shoes I needed. Because of his level of service I wanted to get all the shoes I needed there and I did. I have some dress shoes that needed some repair. I consider myself handy and enjoy little projects. So I stopped in to see Althea. I was hoping to buy some heel blanks for dress shoes. This is not something they typically sell. While they typically don't sell parts, she was able to help me out. The store's shoe repair guy stopped what he was doing and dug around to find me the parts. They sold me 5 pairs of heel blanks. I was able to fix my favorite dress shoes. I still have 4 pairs of blanks for all my other shoes. It is great that a small business takes the time to help someone even if they aren't going to make much (if any) money on that transaction knowing it helps the customer out. I have neuropathy of the feet. Not caused by diabetes. Therefore, insurance will not pay or any of my needs or purchases, I purchased a second pair of shoes after enjoying the fit and comfort of walking. I discussed getting a cast of my foot and specialized inserts. The shoes gad cist ne /$170 and $140 respectfully. And while discussing this option I again made it clear I was a personal pay, and other than they would want a down payment on the $400 plus cost for the impression and 3 pair of insoles. I delt with several employes over this time, and we always discussed that I was private pay, and how much the new insoles would help, and I would have 3 pair I could interchange with shoes. I was to keep my cast of my feet so I could bring it back in and have more insoles made, and there would be a $50 discount. They neglected to tell me that the next pair of insoles would be $400, and that I was not getting 3 pairs of insoles because the insurance co. would not be paying. The employees were very friendly and helpful, but the chose not to listen to me when I would say I'm private pay and was therefore not getting 3 pair, just 1. The shoes are expensive, but good and the employees are friendly, but if they promise you anything get it in writing, and a breakdown of cost so you can make an informed decision. I can no longer trust the personnel of the store and will shop around for another that deal in the same brand and or similar standards of shoes. read more

Orthopedist has advised me to stop wearing shoes recently purchased. Apparently sales staff are inexperienced and advised a high loosely fitted Velcro shoe. Shoes rendered useless. Unable to contact store via e-mail or telephone. (email doesn't work and voice recording on phone) First impression was business overloaded with administrative personel most concerned over payment with multiple pages of redundant questionaires. Insistent upon appointments for fitting and even pickup. I would avoid, if possible. read more

I came here to get fitted for orthotics. The staff was very helpful and professional both in person and over the phone. The service was fantastic, and the woman who did my fitting seemed very knowledgeable and thorough in analyzing my gait, arch, etc... The wait was also very minimal with an appointment, and they weren't booking very far out (I only waited a couple of days). They also used a foam block to get a mold of my foot and create an insole off of that which seemed way easier than the plaster and more effective than the machines you just stand on. There seemed to be a pretty decent selection of shoes, but I didn't really look much. It seems they can accommodate a number of foot types with different brands, sizing, etc... Give them a try! My experience here was awful, very rude staff member who acts as if she is inconvenienced by your business. I was fitted for orthotics and purchased two pair of shoes. One pair of tennis shoes and another pair of dress shoes for work. The dress shoes blew out through the side within 1 week. I never went back to have this addressed only because I did not want to deal with the rudeness. I have taken my business elsewhere. I'm surprised this place is still open. read more

I have been going to Althea's for years. I love their service and their orthotics. They spend time to make sure the orthotic and the shoe is right for me. I have stopped in to have the orthotics as well as shoes adjusted without appointments. They take the time to make those adjustments. I really appreciate their personal touch and efforts. Its not easy making aching feet comfortable. I know that from personal experience. Althea and her staff do everything to make my feet as comfortable as possible. They are a professional team. The selection of shoes is also great. Sizes like mine (woman's 11) are not always easy to find. I love that they have shoe styles in my size that don't all look like canoes! I have had THREE foot surgeries and, according to 2 podiatrists, need to have another to AMPUTATE TOES. Instead, I went to Althea's who inserted a shank into my shoes. What this did was made it so my toes wouldn't bend. Since I have been told I need to have toes amputated I have hiked, in the desert mountains, about 500 miles. Not only that, but I needed to have open heart surgery. The main prescription after that surgery is to walk walk walk. I couldn't have done it without the cobbler at Althea's. It was a life-changing experience. We have had about a dozen pairs of shoes revised at Althea's. It isn't just for cosmetic reasons--it is about my life.
