Jin Jin's was one of the first hidden gem place I've been to in Saskatoon! Seven years ago, my…read morefriend raaaaved about this small and quaint northern style Chinese restaurant ran by a lovely Chinese couple but spoke minimal English. I was quite excited as I was able to practice my Mandarin and try some authentic cuisine! I had a short but wonderful chat with the owner at that time and the dumplings were incredible I always longed to go back to try them again but I was told they had closed and moved back to China due to old age. Fast forward seven years later, I realized they're still open! (Or opened again)?? I never thought much about them since I heard about the closing so I never googled so imagine my surprise when Mr C and I walked by their huge poster above the building! I was super stoked to know they are still running their quaint restaurant and got an even wider acknowledgement for their hard work and amazing food Of course, Mr C and I had to stop by to try some of their dumplings again! it's one of the few times that I actually order meat dumplings And just as I remembered, it was perfect. They flipped it upside down when serving so the crispy part is upwards and just makes me drooool these are perfect bite size servings and no additional sauce required! As mentioned, it's still the same couple running the restaurant. The wife does serving, ordering and cashier work while the husband does the cooking in the backz it was absolutely cute seeing their teamwork and also #couplegoals! Okay back to food. I also wanted to try another dish besides dumplings so I got the Noodles with Tianjin Style Sauce. Unfortunately neither Mr C or myself enjoyed it as much but it wasn't bad! I did find the sauce a bit too salty so I had to thoroughly mix it with the noodles and made sure every bite of wood ear 木耳 and eggs had to have some noodles to balance out the flavours. I probably won't order this one again but for sure will try their other dishes Ps. The entrance is actually further to the right (not below the poster) after all, it's a hidden gem so you really gotta look for it!

But they had an English menu, and I had done some "inter gram research" prior. I showed the owner a few snaps of what I wanted. These were the most delish dumplings ever!!!! And $9 for 20? I took some home to Vancouver with me and I can't wait to get them! Honestly this place is a true gem in Saskatoon! I'll be back!

Ming's Kitchen - This is what passes for Ginger Beef. This was right after opening the package.

Ming's has been a household name in Saskatoon since I was a small child and they had their original…read morelocation further up 2nd Avenue towards Earls. Probably the first Canadian-style Chinese food my family ever ordered/picked-up. I was aware they had moved into the downtown on 2nd Ave but had some renovations issues. I was very excited to get in there and see if my memorable expectations matched reality. Not to give away the results of this review, but they have some room for improvement in all areas, but not bad. Would return for the lunch specials. The step-father and I decided to head to Ming's about 6:30 on September 16, 2019. We parked on the angled street parking, walked in and was greeted at the hostess stand almost immediately. Only one customer at a table so we had the pick of the place for tables. I was expecting an extravagant interior as I had heard that the renovations had taken a long time. I am not sure why as the interior resembled more of a student cheap nightclub with ghastly colours rather than the famous Ming's restaurant. We ventured forth. Revived menus, ordered ice waters and examined the menu. Seemed like it was similar to years previous. We ended up ordering the special ginger beef, pineapple chicken, a Shanghai fat noodle dish and couple small white rices. Also started with two small bowls of wonton soup that were $3 off so the cost was only $2.00. Soup came fairly quickly and was quite tasty. Lots of vegetable, wontons and broth. Quite good and hearty. Would order again especially if you can get it at that price. The main dishes were probably over 20 minutes before they arrived. I should mention that ordering from the server was a bit of task. She was pleasant but knew very little about the menu and its dishes as every time I asked her what she thought or for a recommendation her reply was almost always, "oh I don't eat that but we sell a lot of it so it must be good." Not exactly they informed confident guidance I was seeking. So the main dishes arrived, short the ginger beef which was a few more minutes. All dishes had good taste and were hot and fresh. The ginger beef was prepared in a manner that was not what I expected. In other words it was not breaded or coated in sauce as I was used too. Nevertheless it was quite decent. The portions of the dishes were also decent. There was enough left overs that I was able to have two more plates worth for lunch the next day lol Price of the dinner with tax and tip was about $60.00. Overall I thought it was quite pricey for the overall experience. Probably wouldn't order dinner again. The lunch menu had some decent options for about $10.00 and up. I would be willing to try the lunch menu. Pick up your game Ming's so I can write a better review and and hopefully inspire a new generation of followers!

The deep fried chicken balls weren't even deep fried and we're very chewy and hard to swallow. The deep fried shrimp were very chewy and the batter had a lardy taste to it . The egg roll didn't even resemble a egg roll and I found the batter to be lardy also . The dipping sauces were I don't know what and this is just some of what I had ordered . Very disappointed
