We were looking at Halloween decorations, lights & displays on the North side of Edmonton & ended up in the area of Best Kabob on our way back home. We were thrilled to find a place still open to sit inside so late on a Sunday that wasn't just Tim Hortons. To our surprise, it was a very busy place but we still felt well taken care of by our server & other staff. The front has a beauty selection of items to buy while we waited to get confirmation to select a table. That was appreciated as we felt we could choose what worked for our group as we didn't want to sit so close to everyone on the main level (there's a raised area along the windows & back wall). I forgot to ask before selecting a spot if it would be in the section of our friend that was working that night. It didn't seem to matter as all the staff helped each other out from what we could see & we still got to chat a bit with him & learn his recommendations too. The lady officially serving us recommended a few options off the menu & honestly portions are truly huge. I ordered the 3 in 1 Kabob meal and I could have split it but it was nice to have leftovers for the next day late lunch & supper. I'm glad that I ate sparingly (although the kabobs are best fresh), as the baklava is to die for. Save room. Seriously. You won't regret it. It's so fresh that my friend said this was this first time she's had baklava in Canada that's as close to the memory she has from her childhood country. My friends both enjoyed their orders, another 3 in 1 kabob meal & kunufe. Little bit of an odd thing with ordering our drinks though. I've never had to buy a bottle of water at a restaurant unless it was sparkling water or if I was taking a meal to go. Usually eating in restaurants, you're provided a glass of water with your meal. Especially when you mention you need to take pills. This was just a regular sized bottle of water but as I can't really take my supper pills with Turkish tea, it was necessary to purchase. The tea itself was definitely strong & I was feeling awake for several hours afterwards. Even though the cups are very small, they brought us a pot to enjoy more tea throughout the meal. This restaurant would be a bit tricky to navigate with a wheelchair (navigating the layout of the tables & even just reaching the main door) but in a few more weeks they will be moving due to yellowhead construction. So watch for them to be relocated to a new space. From what we heard, it will be off St Albert Trail near the movie theatre. Looking forward to checking out the new space & this place continuing to be a great North side restaurant to enjoy delicious meals.

I visited Best Kebab with the girls from work and I'm so happy that they introduced me to this gem! We went for lunch during the weekday and the restaurant was surprisingly busy. Although it was busy, we received really attentive and punctual service. Since it was lunch, I opted for the Kafta Kebab with extra salad (no fries or rice). The portions are huge! It's a great value for the price. The food was delicious but next time I am eyeing the Adana kebab. Can't wait to come back here!

We were planning to go for dinner at another place but it was closed for a celebration. Decided to try Best Kebab, a restaurant that specializes in Turkish cuisine. We dropped in on a bumping Saturday evening (around 6:30pm). There's an abundance of tables inside but it was very smoky (guess they don't have the greatest ventilation). Service was slow and lethargic. The menu consists of appetizers, salads/soups, entrees and desserts. Entrees are in the $15.95 to $32.95 price range. Wish they still offered lamacun. - Bread and acili ezme - complimentary. Bread was fresh and the ezme (spicy Turkish salsa) was delicious. - 3-in-1 kebab (#2) ($24.95) - all the entrees come with rice (fluffy and buttery), fries, garlic sauce, hummus and salad (dressing was tasty). My favourite was the beef shish. The chicken kebab was a touch on the dry side. - Half shish half adana (#3) ($21.95) - both meats were excellent. Again, the shish was top notch. - Mix shawarma (#11) ($19.95) - half chicken and half beef shawarma. Best of both worlds. - Chicken thigh (#13) ($19.95) - chicken was tender and had a nice char. - Baklava ($6.50) - they only had three pieces left. The baklava was fresh and not too sweet. Really well done. Pleasantly surprised by Best Kebab. Would come back for their liver shish and lamb chop plates.

The pretty lights! They are so unique to this place; as soon as we walked in I was surprised by how big it was. Plenty of seats for larger parties. Clean bathrooms, and a baby change table. No booster seats but they do have high chairs. I wish the menu gave a little more explanation on things but in the end we were quite happy with our orders. We ended up settling on sharing the 4. Chicken wings 10. Beef Shish 13. Chicken Thighs and 15. Chicken shawarma. The food wasn't too spicy for the kids; the wings had a little spice on them that seemed a bit more potent than any of the other dishes we ordered but it was a nice flavour overall. All the chicken was super juicy and cooked really well. The beef was a little more on the dry side, but still tasty. I love that we all got the big plates with sides of garlic dip, hummus, French fries, salad and rice. A complete meal! And the fresh bread that initially came out once we ordered with the bruschetta-like dip really set a high note for us!

I found this restaurant thanks to a quick Yelp search. We were seated right away. Staff were quick to stop by to take our orders. Service was efficient for the most part. However, we had to ask for extra menus as they only provided one menu for our table of four. Food was delivered soon after we placed our order. A basket of complimentary bread and spicy tomato spread was dropped off first. Bread was warm and fluffy. I forgot the name of the spread but it was good. Our entrees were dropped off shortly afterwards. I had ordered the kafta kebab which is a ground beef kebab. It was tasty and nicely seasoned. Fries were piping hot. The salad and rice were alright. The hummus and toum complimented well with the bread and meat. The restaurant was busy so this is a good sign that the food is good. It is worth a visit if you are in the area. Plenty of parking available on the plaza.

Love kababs and Turkish good so we came to this spot for dinner. The hummus and red dipping app with bread was really good. Unfortunately the rest of the meal was just okay. The lamb actually had an off taste I've not had before. The chicken and steak were both a little tough and chewy. The portions are huge but I didn't like it enough to eat much of it, which is off for me. The staff were all mostly nice, although one woman was kind of pushy and had a bad attitude. Not sure I'd some back to this spot.

Met some family and my nephews (4yrs + 2yrs old) here for lunch. Place was 10% full 11:30AM on a Tuesday. Staff were very patient and tolerant of the kids. High chairs available. Gender specific bathrooms with stalls. I tried the chicken shawarma plate. Was more than enough for 1 person but just barely enough for 2. French fries were 10/10 super fresh, crisp really really liked them. Salad had a different but good dressing on it - next time I'll ask for it on the side. Hummus was tasty but I needed a bread or more chicken to dip in it! Garlic white stuff was super tasty and we used all of it! Chicken was flavorful, moist and cut up nicely. Rice had a really nice buttery flavor and got rave reviews from everyone present. Overall very good meal. We also tried the chicken wings - good meaty flavorful wings. We got a side of beets - quite bland but at least not completely mush. Quite soft/softer than I like. Starter bread and what tasted like bruschetta was 10/10. Bread was soft and fresh. 100% would order this again (if it wasn't free).

This was my first time to Best Kabab, located in North common. The atmosphere is clean, fresh, modern and elegant. It was a very comfortable visit. The service was lovely, we had probably 4 different people checking on us, or offering us tea. They were all very polite and friendly. They brought out a fresh bread appetizer which was so delicious. I had the chicken kabab, my friend had chicken shawarma... both were equally delicious. The portions are huge... I mean HUGE. My friend and I could have shared one. (Especially because the bread was filling). The owner helped us when we went to pay, and he was so friendly. This was a wonderful experience and I will be taking my husband.

The service is soo nice, they sure appetite first bread with hummus it was soo delicious. And I got lamb chops plate and mixed shawarma plate it was so good for drink I got strawberry mojito and am obsessed for dessert I got kunafa woww it was perfect. Overall I rate this place 10/10

Kunufe dessert. One of the best things I've ever had. If you like middle eastern Baklava, this is for you!
    Aleshia A.

Great food! The chicken thighs are so juicy and flavourful. Huge portions for the price...we always have leftovers. The toum garlic sauce is like a fluffy cloud! You can't eat here without trying the kunufe dessert...hot, sweet, salty, buttery, crispy, smooth n cheesy, syrupy - it has everything you could ever want in a dessert! High energy atmosphere, friendly staff.

This place was busting on a Sunday evening. Service was very friendly and our orders came out very quickly. To start, we were given fresh bread and some sort of dip thst had a hint of heat in it. Our orders came just as we were finishing with the bread. My 3 in 1 was pretty delicious and is a huge portion which would be good shared between 2 people as well. It had 3 different meats, chicken, beef and lamb. I HIGHLY recommend trying the Bahlava, it is the only place in Edmonton I have found where it tasted just like how you would get back home, it is truly authentic and fresh. The one thing I found a bit odd, is that for water, you had to buy a bottle, they didn't offer free water.

Went here last week with a friend and the service was terrible.. friendly but just not attentive. I can honestly say I won't be back. The food was blah as well.

Wow! Is this place busy or what! Going here on a Sunday at 5..had a tough time finding a place to park. Eventually got one and had to wait for a seating fit 15 as we were invited to a dinner here. The staff is super pleasant! Ambiance is okay and washrooms are okay. We ordered the spinach and feta Pide, beef pide, and feta cheese pide. They were okay, I have had a lot better. The Kibba were also okay. The dinner was good, the chicken kabab and thighs were good. I loved the kunafe dessert and the baklava was also good. We received complimentary tea which was very nice. Over all it's a good halal restaurant.

I was pretty satisfied with how spot on the taste was and it made me feel like I was eating a Christmas meal. My partner enjoyed his Original 1762 roast beef sandwich. Both sandwiches were flavourful and warm. They give you an option to choose between whole wheat and white bread. We got the combo so it came with soup and a soft drink as well. They gave us an empty cup for the soft drinks and it was self serve at the counter. The chicken noodle soup was well made also. Overall I definitely recommend checking this place out if you haven't. Beside each oil and vinegar, there are suggestions of what foods are best paired with these. I also find that the staff are usually available to help you find what you're looking for. We had a choice of two types of noodles to select from or rice. Finally he asks what kind of sauce and whether or not you want cheese on top; the cheese is an add on. We also ordered a bowl of Wicked Thai Soup. I was impressed that he put the soup into a pot to heat it up rather than just scooping it directly from the soup pot. This ensured that it was hot . Broccolini: 9/10, good, good flavor, cooked well just not sure they are worth the price for what you get. Risotto: 6/10, my uncle gave it a 8/10 as he liked it. To me it was pretty bland, could be that the carrot flavor isn't my thing, but just found it underwhelming and lacking flavor (maybe needs more salt too) Texture was very good though. Colcannon Gnocchi: 12/10. This dish was soooo good. Loved the mushroom cream sauce, sour cream, GIANT bacon jam blobs, gnocchi itself had good texture. But combined the flavors were phenomenal. 100% recommend this dish. Unfortunately Amberjack was not available. Herb Marinated Chicken Thighs: Chicken was 9/10 good, good flavor and texture but Brussel sprouts were bad like no one would eat them bad. Undercooked and under seasoned. Little rocks that had a bad taste. Sauce was good to add moisture but was very very bland/tasteless. Overall this fed 3 of us well with no leftovers but also no room for dessert.

How is this place even in business? Food was so bland and disappointing! The only thing going for…read morethem are the somewhat comfy seats. There are plenty of better restaurants to go to- avoid this one!!!

One of the coolest things that I have noticed in recent years has been the evolution and expansion…read moreof plant-based restaurants in Edmonton. When you think about "vegetarian fare" this will inevitably conjure images of hippy restaurants that serve one type of food (a bowl of vegetables?). Maybe this was once the case but it certainly isn't anymore. (I think that Padmanadi had a large part to play in this development and that they paved the way for a wider selection of plant-based foods in our city.) Today, you can find restaurants from all cultures that specialize in plant-based cuisine and even pub food and pizza! I support this movement and love constantly being proven that animal products are not necessary to make delicious food. And this is coming from a staunch omnivore who clearly eats everything. Good food is just good food! One of the restaurants that has been making waves in this arena is An Chay, a Vietnamese vegetarian restaurant that has been around since 2017. Their name literally means eat vegetarian! Located in Oliver on Jasper Ave, they are in a prime location to feed bustling downtown folk a different take on Vietnamese cuisine. Avenue Magazine named them Best Plant-Based Restaurant 2020 and I couldn't wait to taste their take on some classic and familiar dishes. As previously mentioned, their location is quite excellent on a prime corner in the center of the city. Inside you'll find a fresh space that is filled with bright windows. I loved the pendant lighting adorning the ceiling that look a bit like lanterns. Some of the tables have very cozy chairs that beckon you to really settle in. I was seated at such a table and enjoyed the casual cafe vibe of it all. Our server was incredibly friendly, delivering plates of food to our table in hardly any time at all. For a beverage I went straight for the Burdock Tea ($2.00) which seemed like the most unique thing to order on the menu apart from the Vietnamese iced coffee. I enjoyed how different this was! This tea was not the typical green-jasmine situation that is normally found at Asian restaurants. I could see the pieces of burdock root steeping in the pot, an ingredient known for its antioxidant properties. The nice earthy flavour was something all its own and very pleasant to drink. The food menu is somewhat concise with only five appetizers and ten entrees to choose from. There is no need for more! I would much prefer that a restaurant does a smaller number of dishes really well, instead of offering way too many without being able to maintain quality. Spring rolls and fresh rolls make key appearances on the appetizer menu, as does a green onion cake (it's the Edmonton way). But I was most excited about the Green Papaya Salad (Green papaya, soy jerky, basil, sriracha sauce, roasted peanuts and fried onions. Served with house soy sauce - $14.00) otherwise known as Goi Du Du. I love a zesty green papaya salad that is full of spice! It would be easy to serve a green papaya salad as a plant-based dish - that's already what it is! But I really liked seeing that An Chay is taking this dish to the next level by using ingredients like soy jerky. I appreciated seeing that they are leaning into what it is that makes their food unique and special. This salad was so fresh and had excellent texture. We poured the house soy sauce over top to kick the flavours up even more. Sweet, savoury, and a hint of spice. I loved the soy jerky most of all because of the wonderful pork floss-like texture. Choosing an entree was easy because the dish that I wanted to try seemed so obvious. It had to be the Vermicelli Special (Vermicelli, tempura, shredded beancurd, spring rolls, shredded lettuce, cucumber, mint leaf, pickled daikon & carrots, red cabbage, roasted peanuts, fried onions. Served with vinaigrette sauce - $17.00) otherwise known as Bun 3 Mau. However, An Chay does offer their own take on pho and their coconut curry sounds wonderful. Plated with an artistic hand, the beauty of this dish with its stunning rainbow of colours was a sight to behold. You eat with your eyes first and this dish couldn't have been more appealing. I poured the tangy vinaigrette over the entire bowl and reveled in the symphony of flavours. I loved the pops of cool freshness from the mint, acidity from the daikon and carrots, and crunch from the peanuts and fried onions. I noticed a delightful coconut flavour that I think was mixed in with the shredded beancurd. One perplexing ingredient was the tempura. I think that "tempura" refers to the pan fried item that looked a bit like SPAM (only it wasn't). I'm not sure what this ingredient was but I loved it (if someone had told me that it was meat I would have believed them). I also absolutely adored the spring rolls (cha gio) because again An Chay took an item that I've had a million times but made it their own. Filled with bean thread noodles, fried beancurd, taro, yam, and mung bean; the ultra crispy exterior almost reminded me of a frie
