Best Garage Door Company sold its website to another service company. Despite the website still having Stephen's face on it, they said Stephen is no longer part of the company. Anyone who had their garage door installed by Stephen is essentially SOL as this new service company will not honor anything that Stephen installed as under warranty. I had my door installed 2 years ago. Everything was okay but as time went on issues kept arising. I was able to get them to come fix so it wasn't as big of a deal. The door came off the tracked this last week and clearly things have changed. We reached out via phone, text and left voicemail. Nothing was received back. We ended up reaching out to another company. That company was able to come out same day within two hours. The technician found several different serious issues wrong with the door. One of the bigger things was on the latest repair they had done, which was about seven months ago, they reused the same springs who already were on their last leg and said nothing. They may be appealing for value but in the long run you will regret it. Please please pleaseeee do not use them. I honestly can say I regret using them. Stephen uses deceptive sales tactics, which made me uncomfortable to do business with him I reached out to "Best Garage Door Company" to inquire about the cost of replacing the bottom seal and bottom seal retainer of our 16-foot garage door (I even provided the dimensions). On the phone, Stephen said it would cost $200. Upon showing up, he said it would cost $388. When I called him out on this, he got defensive and said "There's no way I'm driving all the way to Redmond for the parts to do it for only 200 bucks". He went on to say that $388 was a good deal because it is one of the jobs where he makes the least money. He boasted about how he just came from a job where he made $1500 for installing two springs. Clearly evidence that he is a price gouger. The reason I am giving him 2 stars and not 1 is because he offered to replace my springs for free. I'm writing this review to express my complete disappointment. Amazing job done by Best Garage Door Company--just being sarcastic. The guy took my money and disappeared. I purchased a $15,000 door and signed a contract, paying over $7,000 as a deposit to order it. Everything seemed great until the installation day came. Instead of installation, I received a strange text saying my door was on backorder until December. It has now been 5 1/2 months since I paid the deposit specifically to order my door. Stephen, the CEO of the company, is literally ignoring my calls. Occasionally, I receive a text from him with a ridiculous offer to install a temporary door, but I don't trust him anymore. I don't want to end up stuck with a temporary door forever. Plus, I just spent $30,000 remodeling my garage and don't need extra holes to repair from a temporary installation. The whole situation feels like a scam. Real companies that care show up at the customer's door with both a problem and a solution--or at least call their customers. They don't hide and run away. When I try to call, I can't get through. On the rare occasion I do, Stephen promises to call me back in 20 minutes, but he never does. I've been trying to get in touch with someone from the company for over three weeks now. The door was supposed to be installed three weeks ago, as per the agreement during our last meeting a month ago. Since then, no one has shown up, and they aren't answering their phones. It's as if they've disappeared. Stay far away from this company. I don't know how they got all their good reviews--probably bought them. My experience has been nothing short of horrible. Save your money, and don't waste your time with this company. The communication is awful, and they seem to take deposits and disappear. Pictures are my proof. Our last meeting was on August 26th when the installation date was set. Since then, I have requested my deposit back several times over the past week, and I've been completely ignored. Bottom line: Deceptive sales practices and unprofessional, intimidating communication are never acceptable. Please be warned. Read on for the details... Stephen, sales manager (and owner) of Best Garage Door Co., came to our home to diagnose and provide a free estimate for our double garage door. After a brief inspection, he identified a broken spring and cables coming off the drums. He then offered various "packages" for service: $4000 for the "premium" option, a mid-range package of an undisclosed amount, and $1200 for the "basic" torsion spring replacement. When I asked if that was the best he could do, his response was that we could be paying $4000 for the premium service, so $1200 was actually a great deal. We paid a 50% deposit to secure an appointment for the next morning, with no mention that the deposit was nonrefundable. The invoice was produced after the deposit was made detailing the need to replace the broken part with a "standard" spring; I assume a reputable business will have these standard parts on hand. The part cost was listed as $875. Since we weren't in any rush, I did more research on the cost now knowing what precisely needed to be replaced. After checking Angi's List, other sources, and calling local businesses for quotes, I learned that their estimate was more than twice the going rate for this type of repair in our area. The $875 part was actually $200, not including install. Within an hour of Stephen's visit, I called Best Garage Door to ask for clarification on how they arrived at that price. The person who answered immediately responded aggressively with, "What do you want to pay then? I don't have time for this." He went on to argue that he needed to cover expenses like Facebook ads and payroll--topics unrelated to the matter at hand. It took him 7 minutes to identify himself as the person who had visited our home, which lacked transparency, as he didn't identify himself at the beginning of the call as Stephen who was at our home. He then gave me two options: 1) continue with the scheduled service, or 2) take the matter to small claims court. I was simply trying to have a respectful conversation to understand the inflated price. However, he became increasingly hostile and, before hanging up, warned that if I initiated a chargeback on the deposit, he would consider it "theft." I was shocked by how quickly the conversation escalated and how harshly he spoke to me. Needless to say, I no longer wanted this person or this company near our home. We emailed a cancellation and documented the details of the conversation detailed above. We asked for the deposit to be refunded to peaceful go our separate ways. In this household, unprofessionalism, manipulation, and threats will not earn our business. He did not reply. The next day, he called again--presumably by mistake--and tried to smooth-talk his way through a sales pitch. It was clear that he had no awareness of whom he was speaking with, the family he had verbally assaulted the day before. He quickly hung up on us again. One star is not low enough for this abusive Stephen Porcaro guy who completely fleeced me out of $2362.50. He took my deposit for a new garage door, then mysteriously the supplier was "out of stock" several times. He screamed and swore at me over the phone when I wasn't able to reschedule for the third time to HIS convenience. When once again the "supplier fell through", he apologized and texted me that he would, in fact, issue a refund. Then he disappeared. I've been calling, texting and messaging to no avail. I filed a Better Business Bureau report yesterday, began paperwork for small claims court in Snohomish County and contacted Jesse Jones from Kiro. Hilariously, he has several Facebook accounts, not the least of which are a couple called: "Neighborly Values: Snohomish County" and "Neighborly Values: King County." Hah! What a joke. No thank you, "neighbor". There was a post here that I read just days too late from a gentleman named Leo L. who was fleeced for far more than I was, but under nearly the exact same circumstances. I posted a "request a quote" on Yelp hoping to find someone who could help explain why my garage door opener decided to quit. Stephen of Best Garage Door Company responded to my plea offering to come out and fix it without charge if the problem had a simple solution. So naturally I said yes and please. Unfortunately my 21 year old door opener had a non working motherboard so therefore the entire unit had to be replaced. It wasn't the news I wanted to hear but, I decided to have Stephen install a new one. It works beautifully and gives me a new peace of mind. He installed it in about an hour, cleaned up the site and showed me how to operate it. I guess garage door technology has advanced considerably in the last twenty years so I'm glad I had this new one installed. But my problem was a bit more detailed, albeit it simple, and my garage door was not functioning properly. I ultimately hired another company to come and take care of it and I was told that whatever was happening shouldn't have happened if the entire problem was clearly diagnosed initially. It took too many phone calls, scheduling times to meet, and my personal frustration worrying about failure every time I opened/shut the door. Each time I called, I felt my situation wasn't taken seriously and/or forgotten and my problems were not getting resolved. Each next thing was going to cost more money. I needed the bottom seal of my garage door replaced mid Sept 2022. Stephen answered after the first ring when I called on 9/2/22, so no waiting! He set up a time to give me an estimate just two days later and arrived on time. Very knowledgeable and courteous. He noticed that there was a crack beginning where the hockey stick is, and that the door was out of balance due to a spring that was previously installed that was much heavier duty than needed for my size door. I agreed to replace both seal and spring and he ordered the spring and set up a replacement for the next week. He and his crew arrived on time and replaced both within an hour on 9/9/22. The new seal settled well and there are no entry points remaining and the door is much less loud/shaky when opening/closing. Outstanding service and fast turnaround! I was having an issue with my single garage door not working correctly. It wouldn't close properly. It would go down a little bit, then back up again. It took many pushes of the button to get it to go down. This happened daily for a couple weeks. I looked on Yelp for a Garage door company to fix this issue for me. I read the reviews of Best Garage Door company and decided to have Stephen come and take a look. he was very polite, friendly and personable. Our door had the original extension springs/pulley system. After checking the safety reverse sensors, and looking under the hood of the motor, Stephen determined that the extension springs and pulleys needed to be replaced. His quote for new extension springs/pulleys was $1000. He quoted $775 plus tax for torsion springs. I accepted his bid and he installed the new torsion springs. Less than 3 weeks later I had the same issue with the door as before. Stephen came back to take a look. He then said that the logic board was bad in the motor and due to the age of the motor, the logic board part was no longer available and that I'd need to replace the motor. He quoted me $1200 to install a new motor. I didn't go forward. I wanted a second opinion. I called another company. What the service person found was a loose wire under the motor cover. The loose wire was sending intermittent signals to the safety reverse sensor, therefore causing the door to not operate properly. He tightened the wire and the door works like champ. I probably didn't need to spend $853 on the new springs. read more
