Contacted Besser about a new garage door for my home. The two gentlemen who came out looked over my garage and left me with two estimates, one for a metal door and the other for a wood door. As I was having new garage cabinets installed they said they would need to come back once my cabinets were installed to do a final site survey. Once the cabinets were installed I decided a new wood door would be the best looking option. I had Besser out for a final site survey. It revealed they would need to use a special clearance track due to the low 2 x 4 bracing that was in my garage. Built in 1956 my garage did not have a lot of clearance over the door. They also recommended that the door be made an inch shorter than normal to help clear the bracing. That was something they could easily do as the door was built at their shop in Santa Ana. When the installation day arrived, the technicians showed up and dismantled the old door, installed the new door and a double torsion spring system along with a new door opener with camera. Besser returned a second time after the door had been installed and painted to put in the weatherstripping that was painted to match. Top notch customer service here. Sensors is not working. My spouse wanted to replace the Genie with a Liftmaster. Well, everyday when I'm going from our home from 11am-6pm it didn't closed the door. Now, if I wanted to closed the door, then I move my car on my driveway, walked to garage wall, push the button and stay until the garage door is closed. Then walking the kitchen, living room, hall front door open and locked the door with my key and walked to my car. ANNOYING. I never had problem with the Genie's sensor, but the new, shiny, wi-fi, expensive--uff! People tell me the sunlight, but come on.. read more

I'm working on a client's home and was referred to Besser by Clopay. At first I inquired about Clopay canyon ridge, and after I presented to my client, they wanted something more cost friendly option, which was one step down. They chose Modern Steel Plank option and I was quoted $7,800 for it. I told them I'm a GC and my client has budget of $6,500. It took exactly two weeks just to get this far, because the rep will always say i will get back to you next day and will either forget or not get back to me so I have to keep on following up. I get a call from Nathan, saying it's approved at $6,500 but Clopay discontinued modern steel planks and he can get me something similar, but says it's modern steel. Something seem off so I reached out to Clopay, sure enough to find out it is NOT discontinued. I've asked for some pictures or spec of item they are thinking of, but won't get me any information on it. It was my mistake for relying on this company and now I gotta start all over because something seems off with this company. I've asked for color samples and it's been two weeks and nothing. I just wasted my two weeks for them trying to get back to me end of next day thing. If I was a regular retail client that doesn't know anything I would've paid name brands for an imitation probably. Be aware. I would skip. As being a GC, if something seems off from first meeting, you already know what's coming next. read more

They sent out a team lead/supervisor at my convenience and communicated in the excellent way I had first appreciated with the company (call/text/reminder/pre-call). Ryan came out and genuinely listened to my concerns and got to work right away with fixing them. Although we had these hiccups, I am raising my review up to five stars because they were very quick to make everything right and I really appreciate that. *UPDATE #1* As you can see, I wrote a glowing review last night on 7/23/25 and one day later, I received photos that show me that the work was shoddy. This is at my rental property, so right now I feel taken advantage of because I wasn't there to inspect the work. Our tenants reported in the late afternoon, that they could not open or close their garage door, so we agreed that they would call you to try and get it repaired. Our tenants were happy to be given a timeframe to come out to diagnose and repair, the very next day! I was sent a text so I knew when the tech was on the way and Sebastian showed up as promised. He diagnosed and was communicative to our tenants about what the issue was, and then he called me and explained everything in detail, as well. I know it's harder to deal with two different people, i.e. a tenant and a homeowner, yet Sebastian never seemed rushed and answered all of my questions over the phone. Sebastian sent photos and estimates to give us options to fix our problem. We agreed on a solution and after the work was done, when there were more issues that came up, he promptly reached back out to me to communicate everything. I promptly received a wonderfully detailed invoice, with the exact total that I was given on the estimate and both our tenants and I were super happy with Sebastian and his work and communication. Everything went great, from the making of the appointment and communication from your office, to how Sebastian went out of the way to make our tenants and me, as the homeowner happy. Some weeks ago I had called Besser to buy a hinge for my garage door. The review is the 1 star review that you can read for yourself here on the website. About a week later the owner of the company called me and said he had seen my review and he was troubled and sorry for my experience. He said the do have any and all parts for garage doors and that I had been given bad info by whomever I talked to. I felt he was truly apologetic and went so far as to give me his cell phone # and said to call him if I ever needed anything again. I haven't had any practical experience with the company so it wouldn't be fair to rate them with a number of stars. By the same token it isn't fair to give them 1 stair because an uninformed employee gave me the wrong info. So I would like to withdraw my 1 star review and leave it at that. Basically, no review other than the owner seems very sincere in his desire to serve his customers with as much help and expertise as he has to offer. I've used Besser over the years, but will never use them again. My opener's belt was worn from rubbing and needed to be replaced (which I explained on the phone.) The tech came out and said that it would cost $300 to replace for basically a new rubber band. But, he said he didn't have one so he could sell me the belt and new rod (which has nothing wrong with it) for $600. He could only sell both together, but didn't explain why. I told him I'll go with somebody else. Five minutes later he was back and said that LiftMaster will send my a belt for free. He must have forgotten that. An hour later my belt was replaced by Marvis Garage Doors for less than half of the Besser quote and that included moving the hardware so it no longer rubs. What happened to you, Besser? read more

DO NOT use Besser Bros unless you have a lot of money to throw away. They are VERY expensive! They used something called a Full Torsion System Rebuild to repair my garage door for which I was charged $994.09. After the fact I looked up Torsion System and learned Home Depot, Lowes, etc. charge around $200 for the same "system" parts. I checked with several other garage door repair companies and learned I was overcharged somewhere around $400 - $500. I understand I'm 83, and I know my mind isn't as alert as it was in the past, but I would strongly suggest this company will overcharge anyone no matter their age or thought processes. I called Besser Brothers in early May this year to service the garage doors at my home and the attached apartment. They were the company that installed them originally when the home was built in 1993 and they have maintained, serviced and updated the doors and operating systems since then. Recently I requested a maintenance service call and they sent their technician Daniel and an assistant (maybe Adrian). During the visit Daniel went through a very thorough examination of condition of my system, pointed out some areas that needed attention, explained the issues completely to me, and presented resolution options in a clear and concise manner. I agreed with his evaluation and asked him to perform the necessary service, updates, and repairs ( e.g. replaced badly worn springs that could have broken fairly soon) and he proceeded to do so efficiently and neatly. In the process of performing the work Daniel also noticed that some parts were worn more than they should have been and he replaced them without charge. Since the repairs the doors are performing as if they were a newly installed system - so smooth and quiet. Perhaps one of the best things about the experience was that I never felt that I was being "sold" something. Daniel was there to assure that my system functioned as it should. In the process he demonstrated a level of customer service care that was outstanding and exemplary. I will continue to do business with Besser Brothers for all my garage door system needs and recommend them without reservation. read more

Our new home has required the work of many companies, and by far, Besser has been the worst of them. They've exasperated us with their shoddy products, lack of concern, and horrible customer service. Not one other company comes close to their dereliction of duty as a company, nor would I ever consider posting one negative thing for these other suppliers. Earlier this year, I damaged the original door on our new home. I knew then that we'd need a new door, at our expense, and had Besser build and install a replacement to the tune of $8,000. They were very good this one time, building a new door and getting it installed in a rather timely manner. But things went off the rails soon after. The new door, the $8,000 door, soon began to warp, bending in the middle and sagging. The gap at the top was several inches in the middle, and even from a distance, you could see it was malformed. Several calls later and the first of many technicians and managers came to look at it. Everyone agreed it was defective, yet not one of these employees had the power to rectify the situation. A case of them having the responsibility to act, but not the authority. This wasted several weeks time, all the while the door became more compromised. During this time I repeatedly reminded Besser that we had a set date that we must depart for the season. More time - weeks - wasted with back and forth calls and emails. (And by the way, you must literally chase them as they will not get back to you for days on end.) Finally, the owner contacts me and I am told that a new door will be built past haste and delivered and installed within a few days. This they did manage to do. However, having paid to have their previously faulty door painted, I was nevertheless going to be charged for painting the replacement door. The owner could not grasp that this had me double paying, all to correct their mistake. Go figure. Come May, we depart to our summer place, thinking all is well. From afar, we notice the A/C unit in the garage runs more and more often, the electric charge sucking more money from our pockets. It is running constantly, far beyond an amount commensurate with the elevated temperatures. We have both an electric car and a vintage vehicle stored inside, so regulating the temperature is a must. When we return earlier this month, we find the newest door is mis-shaped worse than the previous one. We call Besser, they send a technician in a timely manner, and once again, we are told, Yes, this door is defective. He, too, could see this from a distance. That was three days ago, and still no word from corporate. Time to lace up my running shoes and chase them again. Man, my legs are getting tired. I fear we are going to again suffer a barrage of technicians with no authority to get this corrected and that we will (again) be expected to pay for painting this door. We have during this whole process checked neighbors garage doors of the same size and found none to be afflicted as ours. Is ours actually a case of the installation being off, is it the door itself? Who knows? Certainly not Besser. Truly, if our HOA didn't insist we use these people, I'd cut my loses and go to another company. Besser is truly astonishing, and not in a good way. A company's mettle is revealed when there is a problem, and what we've seen and experienced in such a situation with Besser is sadly horrendous. So, my advice: buyer beware, and run the other way. read more

We have used Besser Bros in the past, but I was so disappointed with them this time. We will never call them again. The company itself was ok to deal with, but I dealt with a shady/dishonest technician. I backed into my garage door (dumb, I know), and the weather strip fell off. I called Besser Bros and asked if they had any idea how much it would cost for them to come out and look at it. I was quoted $65 and they said that if the technician did the repair, they would take the $65 off the repair. They sent a technician - and unfortunately, I can't remember his name (this was in June). He took a look and tried to reinstall the weather strip, but it was bent and he couldn't fix it. He was going to leave and I asked for the invoice so I could pay him and he said it was going to be $240 - for NO repair?!?! I told him that his office told me it would be $65. He hemmed and hawed and said that they had new people working in the office and they probably screwed it up. He then said he would just take the $65. I paid him but I was livid because he had just tried to scam me out of $175!! I never called and lodged a complaint because we left for vacation a few days later and I had surgery and was hospitalized a few weeks after that. I'm now fully recovered and thought I would post a review to let them know about it. They can contact me or look my service call up to verify this. Wow, had such a great experience with Besser Bros. & Nick Mendoza yesterday. Garage door would not close & Nick fixed it in a second, also did a service on the garage door and lubed up all parts to keep them running smoothly. He also noticed the wheels were degrading a bit & swapped them out with new ones super quickly. He also took the time & gave me tons of useful information on extending the life of my garage door and parts & recommended a good oil to use on the parts in between the service which I really appreciated.
