HashtagBeauty's event @ Bespoke Coworking
Aimée I.

I've traveled quite a bit and have been in the start-up world for the past seven years, and I'm yet to see a co-working space as creative, welcoming, and positive as Bespoke. This space is amazingly decorated with creativity-inducing details - from brainstorming pods to artwork that makes you say "ha! that was quite smart!" Each space at Bespoke seems to be perfectly tailored to drive the best of you, depending on your goal, mood, and physical disposition. As always, here are my three best and three to-improve reviews: The Best 1. The staff! Seriously, they will go out of their way to support you as a professional and as a business. Whether that means staying in late because you are organizing an event or facilitating valuable connections. From the front-desk manager to Judith, the brain behind it all, there is professionalism and true commitment to each member. 2. The way the space fits in an entrepreneur's life. There are amenities for all kind of needs. I love that they have a "nap room" with individual secluded "beds." I can't tell the number of times that after working hours and hours straight that nap room looked and felt like the Ritz Carlton. True life saver! The small and creative brainstorming spaces (we called it pods) are great alternatives for meetings that are not that formal to be seated in a conference room, yet, need a bit more structure than the kitchen table. The main area is beautiful and guaranteed to impress any visitor. Plus, the conference rooms are a huge plus for board meetings, investment presentations, or just any meeting that requires an extra hint of formality. 3. The events. In my perception, there are not so many places in San Francisco that are focused on retail-related technology. Bespoke feels like home to beauty/fashion/ retail/consumer-facing companies in the tech industry. I've met incredible founders and contacts there by attending meet-ups and insider events. To Improve 1. Snacks/coffee - this is super personal but I'm a big-time snacker and found that buying fresh/healthy snacks in the mall wasn't so easy as expected. I wish that there was a fruit basket in-house. Regarding the coffee, it's Philz (SF's darling) but towards the end of the day, you can find an empty bottle sometimes. 2. Getting there - most businesses are nearby, I can't complain, but getting there can take a bit longer during rush hours, and there is no parking discount for members (it can be around $20/day to park if you drive.) Luckily there's Uber express which costs ~$5 from the Marina to Downtown. Or, the old-school bus is always an option. 3. Bespoke events vs. Bespoke co-working - this is probably the biggest to-improve suggestion I have. Bespoke has two spaces on the same floor, a large convention center called Bespoke Events, where some cool conferences often take place, and Bespoke Coworking (literally across the hall.) The issue is only a potential issue if you are hosting an event or large meeting in the co-working area (and if you are a bit OCD about the hosting experience as I am.) Most people get attracted by the dazzling screens and large letterheads of Bespoke Events and don't notice that there is a separate entrance for the co-working space. That can be easily solved by giving attendees a heads up beforehand, but there are always those that don't read the notes. I'd suggest displaying a written notice in front of Bespoke Events informing attendees that your event is across the hall. This is a must for B2C start-ups in the retail/apparel/beauty/media space!

All the good vibes of a cafe without having to worry about your laptop getting jacked when you use the bathroom! The bouldering wall is nice although I should probably use it more. Some of the other coworkers are pretty good. Philz coffee on tap: Tesora, Jacob's Wonderbrew. It's in the mall-never have an excuse for missing a birthday gift giving opportunity again!

This is my first foray into the coworking space. I signed up recently for Croissant, which is a classpass for shared working spaces. I had heard of Bespoke through friends and decided to check it out today. The space is located conveniently inside the Westfield mall, on the 4th floor and the space is reminiscent of an industrial loft, with good lighting and plenty of work stations and small rooms for taking calls or having a quick work huddle. Since I have the flexibility of checking out multiple coworking spaces, this will definitely be among the top.

I'll be honest, I didn't know the definition of Bespoke until after we moved into the space. be·spoke (bspōk/ ) 1. (of goods, especially clothing) made to order. "a bespoke suit" Bespoke has been a fantastic resource for Retail, Fashion, and Consumer based startups and larger companies. Excellent curation of rustic yet high end atmosphere very fitting for San Francisco's historic dome area.

The day Sir Christopher Walken came to visit Bespoke... More cowbell!

My Top Five for Five: The 5 reasons Bespoke Coworking gets five stars in my book. In the tech world, especially here in SF, there is no shortage of coworking space.  For whatever its worth, here are the reasons I love heading to work at Bespoke everyday. 1. National Media Exposure I'm not normally star-struck, but when GEEK-goddess and CNET/New York Times/NPR technology reporter Molly Wood walks through your door during a Bespoke Launch Event and starts asking you about Myagi (the retail tech startup you work for), it tends to rock your world a bit. Things like that happen all the time at Bespoke.  The nation media attention our coworking space has received during the past 6 months has been overwhelming.  As a startup trying to "break through the noise" all the media attention Bespoke has received has been great for us. 2. The Ritz Carlton Effect Recently I was invited to speak to over 40 of the Ritz Carlton's senior leaders and General Managers.  They were here to tour Bespoke and learn more about a few of the startups launching from this space.  It was a tremendous opportunity.  If Myagi was not at Bespoke, I don't know how an opportunity like this would have presented itself. 3. Retail Tech SF Meetup The Bespoke team have gone out of their way to graciously sponsor the creation of a Meetup specifically geared towards expanding the retail technology conversation.  The Retail Tech SF Meetup is just one example of numerous networking events hosted in the space on a regular basis. 4. The day Sir Christopher Walken stopped by Kimiko and Judith single-handedly convinced Sir Christopher Walken to visit me one day in my office (they must have thought it was just too lonely working there all by myself).  Seriously--you tell me another coworking space where stuff like that happens...?  5. KJSKD At the helm of this place are some truly amazing and hardworking people.  Kimiko, Judith, Stephanie, Kelsey and Danielle (don't worry Mattie--we've not forgotten you).  Honestly, Bespoke has an incredible team.  A lot of offices and coworking spaces boast in their pretty buildings and hip furniture, but without amazing people that constantly strive to create a thriving community, those things don't mean anything.  The bottom line is, Bespoke has it all. It's an innovative and hip space to work in, combined with wonderful people who are a blast to be around--I couldn't ask for anything more!

Also, be prepared to have a lot of pets with no leash, and the onsite manager "checking in with you" throughout the day. If you're looking to be social and don't mind the lack of noise policy, this is the place - but maybe not if you're trying to get work done. I started on an intro plan allowing me about one visit per week, at a good rate. However, it jumped 25% after just three months - with no warning. The office claims they notified everyone, but I have no email. Nor did I receive the "second" email they sent as proof. I also had multiple access issue, with no help from onsite staff. (Ironically, they always cared what I was doing for lunch.) Jermaine was always available by email to assist - but having no issues at all would have been nice. I've since cancelled my membership for other reasons, but glad I did because that's when I caught the sneaky rent increase. They do respond to emails quickly - but I think its because they don't read them fully.

He helped me get everything done quickly and efficiently. This was also around the holidays, so I'm especially grateful for the extra effort. NEON is a co-working space, but it has such a friendly, down-to-earth vibe. I really appreciate their flexible pricing model. You can pay for a day pass ($25) or by the hour ($5), which makes it affordable without feeling locked into a subscription you have to constantly justify. I'll definitely be coming back to do work here more often, meet people, and enjoy the amenities. There's even an outdoor space, which is a great bonus. Huge shoutout to Teddy and the NEON team for creating such a vibrant, cozy, and inviting space. Everyone is genuine, thoughtful, and happy to help with anything you might need. Highly recommend. Definitely check it out!

It was rather efficient, getting in, getting a badge and picking out a place to work on the 3rd floor where our space is. Apparently, the cubes are fully modular and move around within the building. It's also somewhat of a labyrinth. I made the mistake of entering a few occupied spaces at first, the privacy band on the middle of the glass prevented me from seeing the occupier, a little bit embarrassing but ok, no harm done. The kitchen is shared and had free coffee, tea and a large fridge to store your lunch, which for us was catered, but also had had several dairy/nondairy options of milk. Some of the cubes had sofas, and open spaces had lounging areas for non private discussions. On the 4th floor lobby there were also these unusual looking TeePees, which closed, conceptually strange but maybe this is where the big ideas are hatched---definitely some new age think going on here. There were also high chairs and desks packed into a tight telephone like cubby for single person use. The doors all had glass, and were well designed / sound proof no matter the configuration. The door handles to most of the cubes were sliders. The material of the cube structure all seemed to be of some high grade aluminum and solid construction. I was impressed. Of course Wifi was available. The bathrooms also were decent with anti microbial tape on door handles, flushing handles. I enjoyed the Werqspace and hope to be back one day.

Having work on Monday, I found Werqwise which was walking distance from where I was - not immediate, but not far either. I was able to book online morning of. Finding the signage outside on the street was a little difficult, but I was familiar with the area I was in. After locating, walked inside, went up the elevator and got off on the Werqwise floor... walked to the front desk and spoke to the receptionist who checked me in and gave me a brief intro on the space and where I could work. I chose to work on one of the sofas by the front, near a big window. I kind of wish I had gotten up to preview the space earlier, but did so on my way out end of day. I used the little phone booth looking private meeting rooms when I had to take calls. They have a small desk, lamp, and outlets for you to use while inside. The signage on the doors lets you know whether one is occupied or vacant. I enjoyed working there a lot. It was an excellent change of scenery and environment for me. There are other tables and sofa areas in the shared open workspace. The kitchen is off to the back where they have regular or sparkling water on tap along with I think I saw two types of beer were on tap. Coffee machine is up front (I think there was another in the kitchen?). If you're a regular there, you can leave your mug in the kitchen I think... but they had a bunch of mugs available for use. There's a fridge too. It was actually quite nice and wish I had seen this section of the floor earlier. It did provide a cool mix of working remote in a shared space, but also that office feel with the kitchen and the other side of the floor with the private workspaces you can pay more to rent out. Printers, copiers, etc. were also seen on that side of the floor. The restroom is outside of the office space, but on the same floor. You'll need to exit the main doors, walk past the elevators through another set of doors, and down the hall you'll see the restrooms. They had plenty of TP and tampons in the women's restroom which was nice because if you're traveling and you get your period or just realize you don't have one on hand, they had some supplied. I would highly recommend Werqwise for anyone traveling who needs a place to work remotely or even just for a company to offer their remote employees an option to work from.
